No USB OTG--making me crazy!! - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have a Motorola Droid Turbo 2, 32GB, Android v 7.0. I previously had a Moto G, 8GB, Android v 5.1. I need to transfer all of my files from one phone to the other without losing anything (I tried all wifi methods and a lot was lost). I'd already purchased and used a SanDisk Ultra Dual Drive USB, 32GB, to manage files and free up space on the Moto G. Works as it should with SanDisk Memory Zone App. However, when I try to use that same SanDisk USB drive with DT2, it's not detected. Under "Storage" at bottom of screen, the Moto G clearly shows "USB Disk--Mount USB On-The-Go storage." The DT2 does not show this. I've used "USB OTG Checker" app and it indicates that I DO have this capability, yet I don't know how to access it. I've enabled Developer Options and turned on USB Debugging, still nothing. I was thinking of downgrading to Android v 5.1 since it works with that on my old phone. Why is it that I had to make NO adjustments/tweaks to Moto G for USB to work? It's automatic. Yet the DT2 is making things difficult. I really need to find a solution quickly. Any suggestions please? Thank you!
Addendum: I had a loose charging/USB port (a problem with the phones), and just had it repaired. It's charging fine now, and I thought both probs would be solved, but STILL no USB OTG--UGHHH!!

USB 1.0 + G1 + Micro SD = no usb mass storage?

Hey all, I just made the leap yesterday from my old trusty Dash to a G1. Only complaint I've had so far is I can't seem to get USB Mass Storage to work at my home pc. I suspect the issue has to do with a problem I've had with my USB circuits on my motherboard, basically USB 2.0 has to be disabled or I start having issues booting into Windows (all goes back to a power outage a year or so ago). The weird thing is it works fine via the Dash and WM5torage, works fine using my card reader, it's just when the G1 is hooked up directly it won't read the USB.
I've got it hooked up here at work and it does see it. The only other difference is the work pcs are still on XP SP2 while my home pc is on SP3. Just wondering if anyone has heard of any other issues like this? I've done a lot of google searching and nothing seems to quite be the same issue.
Thanks!
when you connect your G1 via USB, there will be an icon in the notification bar, swipe that down and tap "mount sd card".
this allows the USB to be used for mass storage.
i hope this helps.
nope, like I said, it works fine here at work, but at home it gives an error. First it says it doesn't recognize the device 'android' then it gives an error code 10, usb device failed to start (I will have to try it again when I get home this evening to make sure I have the number and wording right).
I'm quite comfortable in making sure I hit the notification bar and selecting mount.
sorry...i thought since you just jumped from your dash (i love my G1, but still miss my dash sometimes) that you may not have known about the mount/unmount part. i have 4 friends with the G1 and rather than read the instructions or try things themselves, they all turn to me to teach them how to do the most basic tasks. one of my buddies got his G1 in november and just asked me last week why he can't transfer pics from his PC to his G1...i had to walk him through connecting via usb and mounting his sd card...like i said, he's had the freaking phone for 6 months!!
good luck.
so yeah, apparently this is a *known* issue. For some reason the current firmware doesn't like USB2.0. Supposedly fixed in 1.5 so we'll see. For now I just set up andftp and filezilla on my pc so I don't have to bother with digging out my microsd reader all the time hehe
ya, i run into a similar issue. just rooted my phone today, it was tough, n i think i probably messed up too many times on the apps to SD part, that my sd card might have been damaged. it works, but when i link usb to computer, it won't recognize it. i have to use a card reader, very annoying. hope some1 could help! thanks!

[Xoom 2] External HD+Hub+USB Pen: all working simultaneously, no external power

Hey guys,
I asked the other day if about this being possible, and turned out it already is!
I´m a noob, so I´ve just basically tried a little bit. All I did was:
1) Rooted my Xoom 2 10.1" Wifi following the Root Method by Dan Rosenberg
2) Installed "Drive Mount" from the Market (USB Mass Storage Watcher did not work for me)
3) Plugged my USB OTG adapter (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006R0XOLO/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details) to my HD IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER: adapter to HD, then both to the Xoom (I was getting constant freezes because I was plugging my HD to the adapter, once the adapter was already connected to the Xoom).
4) With Drive Mount opened, I mounted my old, NTFS, already partitioned, external HD, and it reads it fine!
Not only that, it even gave me enough juice to connect an old Conceptronic USB hub, then my external HD, then a 8 GB USB pen simultaneously, then move a 700 MB movie to and from the USB pen, without problems. I´ve even been able to watch a 4 GB movie from it!
More importantly for me, this actually makes the device capable of making copies on the go, and hopefully, replace the USB pen with a USB card reader, and download photos and movies from you camera to a HD, when you´re on the go. That´s great for me!
Like I said, I´m just a noob, so the only issue is that I have no idea if the Xoom´s battery could be "damaged", or its life expectancy seriously shortened, by connecting that many devices simultaneously. I´d appreciate if you guys could clarify this for me.
Enjoy!

No, as it's a near-certainty (anything else is amateur hour) that Moto installed current-limiting USB "VBus" regulators on the line you're drawing power from (limiting it to 1/2 Amp).
Thx for number 3. When i plug the adapter first to the tablet and then hard drive to adapter , touch screen stops respond (the tablet don't freeze but you can do anything ). I couldn't understand why sometimes worked and some didn't. Strange bug.

I have the exact same bug on my Xoom 2 Media Edition, also rooted.
When I plugin the USB OTG Adapter first in the Xoom and then a USB Stick in the Adapter the whole touchscreen is turned off, you can only force reboot with the back site hardware keys.
If i plugin the drive to the OTG and then the whole thing in my Xoom all is working great.
Have to try this with a Hub and two drives, would be awesome to save my Raw Files during Holiday.
Hope Moto fixes this bug, because sometimes i forget....
hello pals,
does it really need to root the device to use it as described in here?
can I do the same without rooting my xoom2 (10.1 inch)

Grouper OTG help

Hi all,
I'm going a bit insane here, for months I've been trying to figure out a solution to get my Nexus 7 Grouper to work with an OTG adapter.
I've tried all kinds of ROMs, Kernels, you name it, I've tried it.
I'd like some help, a point in the right direction, I'd really like to have this option on my tablet, it would help me a great deal, I need it to download pictures real time from a camera.
Right now I have DU 4.4.4 vs 8.2 - official installed on it, this doesn't seem to support it either.
Maybe there's a problem with my OTG adapters, I have two, because neither of them seem to make proper contact (please correct me if I am mistaking), because if I connect a mouse to it, it doesn't light up. But they work fine on my Sony Xperia phone.
Any advice is welcome.
Really? No one?
It's the cable. My OTG works fine on stock Lollipop.
Cable Matters (2-Pack) Micro-USB 2.0 On-The-Go (OTG) Adapter
Via Amazon. I use an old Apple mouse and keyboard.
I'm on Lollipop, rooted, and I'm using Stickmount with a couple of OTG adapters. They work fine with any external memory I've attached. Stickmount now allows unmounting without the persistent notification to mount mass storage it used to display.

USB OTG support

If you try to connect USB storage to your Z4 Tablet it seems not to work (tested on 28.0.A.6.8).
But as found out at w ww.coolsmartphone.com/2015/06/27/xperia-z4-tablet-missing-usb-otg-support/ it is! Its only unneeded complicated...
In short: go to "Settings" -> "Xperia Connectivity" -> "USB Connectivity" -> "Detect USB device" while storage is already connected. Then it's showing up in /storage/usbdisk as it should be.
(under "USB Connectivity" -> "Tips for connecting with USB device" you can add a shortcut to quicksettings)
Let's hope Sony will fix this to auto connect as it was working e.g. in Tablet Z. There it is showing up immediately when you plugged it in without a need to touch minimum 3 times!!!!

Probably that way because of the capless port; you don't want pins live in the port (that you'd need to detect an inserted passive device like a USB stick) if the port's going to allow water in.

Yes i think that's the case. Thank God Sony doesn't drop the OTG support.
Does the Z4 Tablet also support peripherals over the USB OTG? Specifically a USB mouse and keyboard?

if USB OTG is supported, then no doubt it will be. Even my Z Ultra supports them.

Everytime I plugged in the OTG USB storage, all my SD Card apps will become not working anymore, unless I unplugged it and restart my tablet...

Sadly, this is a problem Sony hasn't fixed yet. A Sony community manager says it has been forwared internally, back in november 2015. See Apps moved to micro SD-card not available when USB-device is connected via OTG ?! on Sony's Xperia Care Support Forum.

Awesome. Thanks for the confirmation.
No USB/Memory card Reader hub OTG support
I can confirm after the long-awaited Marshmallow update my OTG USB/memory card reader hub stopped to work and is not reading any memory cards

Same here, my LEXAR 64GB U3 Card (which has more pins on it than normal SD) can't be read after updated to marshmallow, however a normal SD can be detected with the same LEXAR card reader.
I'm wondering if it is the google official OTG method is less superior than the sony one....
Has anyone been able to make OTG work? I've tried two different cards (Samsung and Lexar U3) and both are not recognized. Same combo (OTG cable, reader and cards) work perfectly with Samsung S7 Edge.

Nexus 6P isn't reading USB OTG

I have two Nexus 6Ps, my original 64GB and another 124GB I just picked up. I've set them up as identical as I reasonably can. The original one has never had an issue reading the USB OTG and doesn't now. My newer one does - I get an error "Unsupported SanDisk USB drive". If I elect to format the USB drive it takes me through the steps but nothing happens, I still get the Unsupported message on the notification bar. Funny thing is if I use File Manager or one of the apps to read the files (my phone is rooted) I can see the files on the drive, no problem. However, through the Android Files app, I don't see the drive. I'm thinking it's a phone issue because I have no problem with the USB OTG on the other phone. Running the Pixel Experience 9.0 on both phones, rooted with Magisk. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.
