Hello,
I just upgraded from Kitkat 4.4.2 to Lollipop 5.0.1 via Kies. The phone was rooted and became unrooted, of course. Everything went fine with the upgrade and re-rooting after some trouble shooting.
However, I noticed, that after auto-update of Google Play services, that those would always stop working after reboot. Before that update, everything was fine. So I did a factory reset, and even flashed the unrooted version again, but this did not help for long since Google Play services would start crashing again after the next update.
My Lolipop 5.0.1 version is I9505XXUHOB7, the working stock version of Google Play services is 6.5.something, while the version that I got via auto-update is the newest 7.0.99. After some backup restoring and factory resetting I finally figured out that I could revert Google Play services to stock version after removing the device admin setting, and flash any version from apkmirror.com. Now I know that all versions of Google Play services above 7.x and newer definitely *will* crash on my S4 with the new Lollipop.
Does anybody know about this? As I wrote, this happens on a clean unrooted install after factory reset as well. The last working version of Google Play services for me is com.google.android.gms-6.7.76_(1745988-438)-6776438-minAPI21. Older versions will not crash, but I will keep messages that Maps, Gmail or such things require a newer version. Now I am wondering which update of those apps will break my phone again...
Google will automatically restore settings related to your device when you sign in to your Google Play account, thus a factory reset does nothing here. You need to wipe Google Play Services' data, preferably after the update to the latest version. Then reboot and see if anything changes.
Thx for the reply, but I when the phone asks, I always deny to store anything on Google servers. I have my own backups. And, it worked with the initial install and only stopped working after the Google Play services update. Would that not mean that every user must be affected? I read a lot that Google Play services stop working recently, but no apparent explanation.
Edit: I just noticed that, without me doing anything, Google Play services got auto-updated to the faulty new version again, crashing again. Very annoying. I tried the solution with deleting all data, but that helped noting. I reverted to the last functioning version manually.
Is there a way to prevent this auto-update?
Just had a chat with Samsung Support (there seems to be no way to officially address this issue with Google directly). They were not aware of the problem until now and walked me through a couple of steps. Unfortunatelly, nothing helped. They promised to address the issue to Samsung development. Hope this helps, but small hope it is...
hello, I use android 5.0 lollipop.
Google play doesn't auto update and doesn't show notifications for update waiting apps. When I clear "data" for Google Play Store it starts to show notifications, but when I open Google Play , it asks me about google campaigns and agreements, I accept it, and after this process problem starts again.
I am sure this is about the "data" that Google Play uses. Problem disappears when I clear data. Problem starts again after first usage. (first window)
I tried deleting cache and data for Google play services too. I did factory reset and I removed Google Account. Nothing helps.
Thank you.
Try updating the play store
http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/
And clear cache/data for google services / framework
i tried, still no luck.
ive been having issues with updating apps on my s5.
i got an error code 963
it seems to be with apps ive moved to sd card.
i read something about new android OS after a certain version are not allowing apps to stored in sd card.
i unistalled playstore and reinstalled it and i aldo moved the apps to device storage and both those actions or one of them by itself allowed the apps to update
i dont know if it was just uninstalling the playstore or moving the app to device storage though. thought id share my experience
mine is the sm-g900r4

You already said "I did factory reset and I removed Google Account. Nothing helps"
What extra do you think you can achieve without re-flashing a ROM, that a factory reset couldn't fix?

sorry i am just a beginner user ,i have 2 questions
-if i do flashing rom will my phone out of warranty?
-can i see/change Google Play Store files on my phone? i have no root access
thanks.
No you won't lose warranty flashing STOCK ROMs with ODIN
You will lose warranty if you flash anything custom
Which Google store files are you talking about?
And if you had access to them, being a beginner, what would you be looking for, and what would you change, again, that a factory reset did not achieve ?
Unbelievable !
I flashed last stock rom but problem continues.
I check manually most days, and just update any that are sitting waiting
Not sure if there is like a set time period it waits before auto updating, but the notifications for available updates will likely only happen if you disable auto updates, otherwise it has no reason to tell you there are updates waiting, it will/should just update them and tell you once it's done
So try this:
1. Disable auto updates in Google Play settings
2. Wait for a few days until there are some updates available
See if you get notifications
If yes, try this:
1. Enable Auto updates in Google Play
2. Wait a full week without manually updating, see if they auto update
Hey guys,
Wanted to try and find out whether anyone else is experiencing issues with Google Play Services (9.4.52) crashing after upgrading to Nougat OTA?
I thought I may have a botched install so tried the following:
- Cleared cache
- Reset and didn't restore from backup
- Reset and only installed stock apps
- Safe mode
- Cleared Google Play Services data
- Unsubscribed from all Google beta testing apps
I still can't figure this one out, even after a hard reset back to stock it still kicks up a play services crash about once ever 10-20 minutes... very weird... and frustrating
Anyone else had this issue? Or got any suggestions?
I had the exact same problem after accepting OTA yesterday via the beta program. I was on 6.0.1 on my 6P (no root, no custom rom, locked boot-loader). All Google Apps and Services crash including Messenger (SMS). I performed a hard reset with no luck. I flashed OTA with no luck. Only solution was to unlock boot-loader, flash recovery, and go back to stock. I will try again today.

Will try that method instead, the crashes have died down again but I can't find any correlation between specific apps and what's causing the crashes! If I find a solution I'll post.
I think there may be a problem with the final release. It seems Google pulled 7.0 from their factory images site. I downloaded 7.0 for nexus 6, 6P and 9 earlier today and only the download for the Nexus 9 is still available. I don't know which version is giving you a problem but on the Nexus 6P Google earlier posted version MTC20F. I was going to flash it this evening but I think I'll wait and see what version they post back to the factory image site.
Google has finally posted the OTA and Full ROM images for 7.0. Both have the exact same problem on my 6P. All Google Services and Apps crash and the phone reboots randomly (often). I am at a loss. Obviously issues exist with 7.0 and 6P. Google seriously needs to address this non-sense.
Friends, I updated my Mi A1 to January Security Patch a few days ago. But then Google Now started crashing, then Google App refused to open coz of error Google Stopped, Assistant crashed as well, Gmail stopped, Google Opinion Rewards stopped, third party app like bluemail stopped.
This was very irritating. I cleared cache of Google App, Google Play Services, uninstalled their updates but nothing worked.
So at last I made a backup of the data and reset the phone. Hoping that it'll solve the problem. And actually it did untill I update the Gapps to lastest version and again Google App, Assistant, Gmail, Google rewards started crashing.
Again had to take a backup and reset the phone. Now I havent updated any GApp and no crashing till now.
I dont know why it is happening. Any concrete solution please?

Try this tool to install play service to your device
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=198968
A factory reset is required to use this
One more thing, read all instructions form here before use from here

I also got this error 2 days ago. When I was on Android 7.1.1, I updated to 8.0.0 officially but the problem was not resolved.
me too last 2 days
I have same problem last 3 days.
Device recognised by Google Play as uncertified. Maybe problem in that?

There is a solution but I do not know how to do this without root
I managed to downgrade my Nokia 6 to 7.1.1 and rooted it again.
To solve this problem:
1. Root your Nokia 6
2. Delete /system/etc/permissions/services.cn.google.xml
3. Install GMS and Play Store
This issue happens on every China Variant Android Phone.
To downgrade, you only have two choices:
1. Find a Service Center that could help you to downgrade. Just find an excuse like "Android Oreo feels buggy and it seriously affects my experience".
2. Accoring to an article ( https://alephsecurity.com/2018/01/22/qualcomm-edl-5/ ) EDL Cable method is blocked with Android O Update, you have to disassemble your phone and short these two pins according to this article ( https://alephsecurity.com/2018/01/22/qualcomm-edl-1/ ).
You know, always do backup before processing.
flashing back to 7.1.1 isn't even possible anymore.. we're pretty much ****ed..
Damn. So no way to downgrade with the OST LA tool?
I live in Germany and have a chinese TA1000. l witnessed the 404 error on play store yesterday, so I did a factory reset in hope of fixing the issue. And then: playstore still didn't work and on top of that all apps were gone at this point. So now I use apkpure app and also download apks from the developers directly (if available).
Is this a permanent block or just a temporary issue?
Nokia 6 TA 1000 Play. Store error
Use a VPN such as Turbo VPN and run play store it will work.I have try with USA server.
Today, the Google Play Store app has been downloaded without a 404 error on the Nokia 6 TA-1000. Google has fixed the bug?
Try This
Go To setting - app
Chose three dot icon on right top and chose show system
go to google services framework
and clear chace (warning !!! .. only chace )
restart your phone and try to open play store ..
Today, Instagram update worked, webview didn't and Swiftkey didn't.
VPN does not help,
Emptying Google Services Framework does not help.
Google Calandar Sync does also not work or better: the google calendar synced with it does not display in calendar and under accounts google clander does not appear.

Factory Reset your phone maybe will work fine ..
Factory Reset is what got me into this predicament in the first place!
Don't do that!
All apps were gone, PlayStore is being blocked on chinese phones, so you can't reinstall most apps through PlayStore.
