Hey guys this is important I can't continue this FAQ cause I'm goin back to school in like 4-5 days (sophmore in high school takin ap classes hell yeah!)and I don't even think I will keep my vogue. Well anyway my point is I can't update this FAQ frequently anymore but I give full permission for a copy and paste of all the info I have as long as that person will keep an Android FAQ going and knows what he is doing.
New Builds posted check the google code page (created by Vilord) http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/
I just needed to state this because for the past couple days I've been confused with who worked on The clean 1.5 cupcake build that is on the google code page and this is what was on Vilord's Thread
Credits for the kernel (zImage) go to DZO. This kernel is unmodified, it is his latest kernel
Credits for the system image go to many people, haykuro is the original source, then further modified by Vilord to get data, market, and SD card working
The initrd is pretty much all his (Vilord) now, with a radio library from DZO, srwalter, and himself Once again apologies for whoever I didn't list I've read that countless times before but for some reason something didn't click!!
OK so there are a ton of android threads and developers and builds etc. etc. and not really many places to actually help you (besides the Android port help desk but that's just too cluttered and doesn't help you with installing and Vilord's google code page)
The first build I will help with is DZO's he has 2 builds a clean android 1.1 and android 1.5 cupcake and Vilord did most of the 1.5 build so credit goes to him too.(Full credits above) He provides all the necessary files
DZO's Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=382265
DZO's download site http://cs-alb-pc3.massey.ac.nz/vogue
Now he was the first person I remember that ported Android and he was the first one I used. The basic files are the default.txt-This tells Haret how to load Android Haret- This is the program that runs the Linux Loader zImage- This is the kernel (I believe that was done by DZO completely correct me if I'm wrong) Initrd- Data.gz- This is where your data is stored (contacts, settings, etc. etc.) System.img This is the actual system that starts I can't describe it better than saying it is kinda like the windows folder on your phone. All Android Builds need these files to work. The only one that isn't required is Data.gz (Haret will automatically create this if you don't have it)
So the first step is to obviously download all the necessary files many are scattered but if your new I would go with the 1.5 complete zip that can be found on this google code page (DZO links off to this too) http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/
You must then edit your default.txt to suit your device (and preferences) first thing you will want to do is change the panel type I don't remember off the top of my head what each panel type is (1 2 3) but I suggest trial and error. If you get a white screen while booting Android you must change the panel type. Next you want to input your username and password for data to work sometimes you don't need to do this (I never changed mine and data works fine). Lastly if you want you can change the resolution default is 320 x428 that's fine it's totally up to you.
Here's my default.txt for my vogue "[email protected] ppp.password=telecom mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=160 msm_sdcc.msmsdcc_fmax=32000000 pm.sleep_mode=0 board-htcvogue.panel_type=0 no_console_suspend"
boot There are some other things you can change but I wouldn't if you're new to Android. After you edit the default.txt your next step is to copy all the files to your sd card and they MUST be in the root of your sd card NOT in a subfolder. Also if you would like to have android programs you need to make a new folder on the root of the sd card that is named exactly like this (caps and all) AndroidApps and you find android APK Files (for instance Anycut.apk) and copy them to the AndroidApps folder I will post a few of my apk files later The last thing to do is to boot into Android!!!! To do this in windows mobile you go to file explorer and on the root of you sd card you run the program Haret and press run (assuming you left the name of Default.txt the same if not put in the name) Then Haret will start a Linux Loader some builds take a few minutes so BE PATIENT after it boots just go through setup and you have Android setup!!! For some builds in order to get Data working (I never had to do this but some have) before you run Haret you start a data connection (clicking on internet explorer will do the trick)and leave the data connection open while you run Haret. I don't think there is a build that has Bluetooth working yet (although I believe it's coming soon) and obviously wi-fi doesn't work because our vogues don't have Wi-fi. Different builds have different things working/ not working so check the builds.
If you guys can't tell yes i'm a noob (i don't know everything) but I will still try and help
Mssmison's
New Rogers Build, Skinned build, and Hero (and lite) builds posted setting it up is virtually the same so I don't really feel the need to write about it and once again excellent builds pretty stable (especially the rogers, and skinned builds
*For any build you need the files listed above for Android to work)
Mssmison's Thread http://tinyurl.com/nzhj53
Mssmison's mediafire folder http://tinyurl.com/mzgx3q
Mssmison's builds are the next ones I want to help with because many people are having problems with his Hero builds.
First off Mssmison has three main builds (they expand into later versions though) The Hero build (if you're not familiar with the Hero it's a new phone made by HTC that is set to debut here in the US in October http://tinyurl.com/kln4ke) the part people love about this phone is the senseui which is touchflo for Android and the various Hero builds focus on porting the senseui to our vogues. The next build is his rogers build and lastly the Hero skinned themes (cupcake build but skinned to look like the hero doesn't have touchflo though).
The Hero Build-It's very nice and definitely appeals to the eye however all builds (not the faults of mssmison, zenulator, etc.) are pretty slow on our phones. Mssmison gives you two files the system.img and the initrd you need both files and you simply rename the system file (the latest one is named hero251.img) to "system" (w/o quotes) and replace the files on your sd card with these two new ones from mssmison's mediafire folder. Once again you still need he files listed above default.txt, Haret, and Zimage you can download these on the google code page. This part is important open your default.txt and edit the resolution and lcd density I don't believe that any default.txt has a lcd.density string yet so just add it right after the resolution and also change the resolution to 320x480 if you don't do this the Hero splash screen will just keep looping. Basically replace "mddi.width=320 mddi.height=428" with "mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=160" (w/o quotes)*As pointed out by JaredaKelly you shouldn't copy and paste because that will break the string so enter it manually* Mssmison's newer builds (2.0 and up) don't require a data file so you can just delete that if you have it. Now the key with this build is PATIENCE after you have finished following the instructions above you start Haret (its supposed to be on the root of your sd card if you followed the FAQ) ********It will take a little while to get to the Hero splash screen so be patient while it runs and creates a data file. When it does get to the Hero splash screen and the animation runs through it will take about 3-4 mins. so again be patient. When it finally boots up you will get a force close/wait screen click wait for however many there are until there is a force close only screen DON'T press force close yet wait (usually another 3-4 mins. could take longer though) for the language options come up (wake your phone up and unlock it if it falls asleep). After you see the language options behind the force close then you can hit force close and go through the setup after you go through it it will seem like it freezes (I think it's location consent) don't click like mad all around the screen just wait and it will reboot Android (not windows) and then it will start to load touchflo like I said wait it takes a while and when it finally does your done and you can now boot into The Hero build of Android!****** If you would rather it be faster on the home screen open the menu (volume slider down) and click settings>applications>manage Application>scroll down to touchflo and click it then press clear defaults. Then go back to the home (press the power button on top of the phone) and it will ask you for some default thing just click the check box on the bottom and press home and you won't have all the nice new widgets but you'll still have the nice new apps and hero splash screen etc. etc. and it will be way faster. Now there is a hero lite version if you want it just follow the instructions above (includinig disabling touchflo) and download the Hero lite version rename it to system and overwrite the old one on your sd card and you will be done!
New Hero Builds by mssmison posted on the google code page he gives you a data file so it loads wayyyyyyyy faster so if you have his newest build don't worry about the part in red http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/
Next Mssmison Build I wanted to help with is his Rogers build I must say this build is very well done and one of the fastest I've ever seen. Basically it's kind of like Hero getting setup except like 50 times faster what you do is (once again assuming you have followed the FAQ and have these files listed above) go to mssmison's mediafire folder and obviously download the (you MUST use both of mssmison's files!!!)Rogers build and initrd rename the system file (the most recent is named Rogers2.0) just "system" (w/o quotes) and replace the 2 files on your sd card with the two Rogers build files then just like you do in the hero build open your default.txt and edit the resolution and lcd density I don't believe that any default.txt has a lcd.density string yet so just add it right after the resolution and also change the resolution to 320x480. Basically replace "mddi.width=320 mddi.height=428" with "mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=160" (w/o quotes) I believe it is always better to start with a new data file when you try a new build so just delete your old data file and run Haret after it calls up the linux loader it will make a new data file and all you have to do is wait for the setup (like I said faster than hero) and there you go Mssmison's Rogers Build!!!
Hero Skinned Cupcake Build- This is one of my personal favorites I love the skin and it's a fast build. So first download the cupcake build from mssmison's mediafire folder*His newer builds are hereat the google code page After you download it (it's only one system file) rename it to "system" (w/o quotes) unlike the other two builds you can use any initrd you want (For the 10th time assuming you have followed the FAQ and have these files listed above) I just use the one on the google code page copy the file to the sd card and another thing you don't have to do is mess with the default.txt resolution I just leave mine at 320x428 because in my opinion I think it looks better but you can change it to whatever you want mine looks like this "mddi.width=320 mddi.height=428" (w/o quotes). After all is copied just boot up Haret (use any data file you want or use no data file because Haret will make one for you it doesn't matter) wait ouot the Linux Loader and you're presented with the setup screen and Ta-Da!! Mssmison's Hero themed cupcake Build!!
New Palm Pre Skin build!
Step 1: Make sure you have all the files listed above, if not download the cupcake 1.5 bundle from http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/ and put them on the root of your sd card
Step 2: Edit your default.txt (for more info look at previous posts)
*I put mine at 320x480 and it worked I'm not sure if it'll work with different resolutions (I would imagine so)
Step 3: Download the Palm Pre theme system.img from http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/ rename to "system" (w/o quotes) and overwrite the old system on your sd card
Step 4: Boot into Haret with File Explorer (or similar) and go through setup (unless you have your own data file)
Then your done!
UPDATE Mssmison posted a new file on the google code page rename it to system and follow these same steps Also Mssmison is now going to start posting on the Google code Page now so expect his builds to be there from now on

You can also find his builds here http://code.google.com/p/vogue-android/
Zenulator's google code page http://code.google.com/p/vogue-hero/
Hero Build-This is personally my favorite Hero Build (and it's actually useable) it's very fast sleek and nice.
Step1: Download the Hero Bundle from the pages above
Step2: Copy them to the root of the sd card
*You could use your own data file but I prefer not to*
Step3: Edit the Default.txt you only need to change the panel type and the resolution to 320x480
Step4:Boot into Haret with File Explorer (or similar)
Step5: Go through the setup and you may get a wait/force close screen at bootup but just press wait and there you go Zenulator's Hero Build!!!
Forgot to mention the keys are remapped the volume sliders actually control volume! The power button is the menu the d-pad and middle button are the same and the side camera button is back while the end button is still power collapse If you want to have a home button goto App drawer>spare parts>End button behavior>click home, then sleep now when you press the end button it will take you home if you press it at the home it will goto sleep mode
P.S. The only things are switches for mobile and GPS and a clock. add more by pressing and holding a blank area on the home screen and select HTC or Android Widgets and to delete widgets press and hold the item then drag them to the bottom

I don't know how important this is,
But today I discovered you can turn the volume up and down by holding the camera button and the volume up/down.
It works, and its so convenient.

whew, many many thanks for that one mate.
how do you become a root user? also is there any way to reset the phone instead of just powering off?
I posted this in the Polaris thread to help users who were having problems getting the hero builds to boot:
I now have all the hero builds working.
Instructions:
Download zenulators hero-black build here
Connect to data in WinMo. (dont know if necessary but it might help with data issues).
Unpack to sd card and run.. no data image.. let it create one. it takes at least 10 mins to get to the lock screen.. dont touch anything even when the lock screen comes up .. clck wait on all the forced close boxes until it settles down. Add apn settings, connect modem and skip sign into google as this hasnt worked for me yet. Wait for it to become steady and the digital clock is on the screen then power off.
reboot and backup your newly created data image, you'll use this now for all these builds.
copy the hero image lite or full and run.. it should boot straight into Android.. enjoy the new touch flo.. realise its completely unusable but that you just had to see it anyway (even though you already knew that ) and then switch to the more usable lite version by copying the lite system image and renaiming it.
Good luck

keep up the good work, i swiped my whole sd card and im restarting with your instructions but using the lite build... hope this works =]
Just FYI not all vogues use a board panel type of 0. Many sprint vogues, for instance, use 3. Trial and error until it works for those starting out.

Well yeah that's why I said if you get a white flashing screen to change it I remember DZO saying he used 3 thanks for making it clearer to people
Good Idea
I guess the android ports are getting more action than the WinMo roms.
If you can keep this together it will be a great help to the community.

Well actually you shouldn't have zero for the panel type, it means "don't power down the panel" but is not recommended because it messes up the vsync sometimes and will use more power than the others when the panel is off. Tell people to try 1,2 and 3 until it works.
good ^^d f f
Maybe we should ask the hosts of this website if we can get our own thread for Android Ports in general. There are so many people that dont know that Android can be ported to different devices. If we had our own section, the porting scene would skyrocket and things would come along quicker with more developers on board.
Fist question: Downloaded the app AndNav for gps navigation... it is a folder eith no .apk file. I have AppInstaller but how do I install this program?
Nest question: Using zenulator's Hero build, what can you do as far as syncing with a PC? It has HTCsync or whatever, does it work? I will plug it in and give it a shot.

Q&A for [ROM][CM12][5.0][Lollerpop][KANG] Grouper nightly kangs
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [ROM][CM12][5.0][Lollerpop][KANG] Grouper nightly kangs. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Will not flash
I keep trying to flash this rom and all I get in TWRP is Error executing updater binary. I was able to flash other 5.0 AOSP roms but I am having trouble with this one.
BSZAospLP v1.1 flashed fine as well as an older build of your rom. The last 2 builds will not flash at all. Same error. TWRP and MultiROM are updated to current versions.
My rom shows a camera installed when I go to manage apps, but it doesn't show in the app drawer and I can't access it. Stock launcher no hidden apps or anything

For me this issue existed already on KitKat. I think the camera app is kinda hidden because the N7 camera isn't designed to take pictures. But some launchers allow you to create an activity shortcut to the respective activity of the camera app to launch it. This works fine for me with action launcher.
First off, I do know that this is a work in progress, and so far, it has been an excellent release. But, I want to know if anyone else is noticing the following issue below or if it could just be my device.
Has anyone noticed if their keyboard response is slow within games, such as Game of War? I'm noticing severe lagging in the keyboard when I'm attempting to chat, send email or do searches. Anything that requires keyboard entry is slow.
I've noticed this as well in other games. I also am running CM12 on my Droid RAZR HD (XT926) and keyboard response is fine. It only seems to be with this build on my Nexus 7 (2012) WiFi, so I can't tell if it's just because Grouper Nexus 7 is just not up to the task of running this, or if it's just the ROM is still early.
I've tried both the stock keyboard that comes in CM12 as well as my default that I use, Swiftkey. Again, on my phone (XT926), Swiftkey works great in the games.
Outside of games on my Nexus, the keyboards work fine. It's only within games that I see the severe lagging. And by severe lagging, I mean that I will select into the input box to start typing and then the keyboard may not show up for 15 seconds. One time, it took over 30 seconds. And then, once the input box has focus, typing on the keyboard appears to do nothing and then maybe another 15 to 30 seconds later, it starts to show up, one type at a time, with seconds of lag between types. Sometimes, it eventually clears up for a bit, but if I start to type longer, it can then start to lag again like before.
Just curious if anyone else has noticed this. I've done a clean wipe. I'm running 11/28 build with f2fs on the data partition, and I'm running it with the MKernel-a72 kernel.
Thanks!
UPDATE:
Okay, downloaded the 12/01 image and the keyboard issues appear to have been taken care of.
for me too the 20141205 build is not booting
it is checked. I am trying
pie control
How far are we from setting pie control, either slim pie or paranoid pie. In a lolipop release? This is the most important feature for me.

I think CM discarded Pie control, they didn't include it in CM11. I put my hopes in SlimLP, since Slimkat had a decent Pie implementation.
Problems
Hi,
thanks for the ROM. I have a few questions, problems for which I would like to ask for help:
data and cache partitions are mounted without the discard options. Is this normal? Can this be added?
GPS is not working: E. g. the GPS status app (or Google Maps) does not see a single satellite.
I cannot copy files from the Windows Explorer or by adb push to the (emulated) sdcard/internal memory: error message of adb: failed to copy 'xxx' to '/storage/emulated/0/xxx': Read-only file system
Thank you for your help
Ok answering myself: With the latest build (141222) (part ?) of the GPS problem and the copy problem have gone:
The GPS status app can now find the satellites. Also in one map app (OruxMaps) the location is shown. Unfortunately, it still does not work with google maps.
For whatever reason it is now possible to copy files and directories with the Windows Explorer to the "internal memory". But not with adb push?!?

Is mtp not working on the latest build as of yesterday?
It's not showing up under Device Manager at all so I can't browse for drivers. I've tried disabling and reenabling debugging but I get nothing. When I go to Storage and try to select USB Computer Connection, I get no options or drop down.
It does charge however.
Black screen upon boot
I just flashed the latest nightly after converting it to F2FS using the Windows tool. I also did a full wipe and manually checked to make sure system, data and cache were in f2fs. The ROM boots and 'optimises' apps just fine but then I just get a backlit black screen, only the power button works.
What might be my mistake?
Need HELP @ Note 3 ( SM-N9002 / SM-N9009 ) SIM2 Call Audio/Mic Routing & MagMa-NX ROM
Got my hands on this one beautiful piece of Samsung Galaxy Note3 SM-N9002 Dual-Sim, and it had this odd version of Chinese samsung rom on it, as it comes from factory, half apps installed that comes with it was in Chinese and had no play store etc and was on 4.xx android, so I went and did my research, found working TWRP, managed to install it OK, then tried few beautiful ROM versions and found MagMa-NX (note7 ported ROM) works wonderfully well, zero crashes etc etc and it also has kernel support for SM-N9002 during installation which I chose to use, all features work 100% and everything works ok, all but SIM#2 call audio.
I mean, I have signal on both sim cards simultaneously OK, I can make and receive calls and all would seem ok, but when dialed to or from SIM#2 there is no audio coming out from earpiece or loudspeaker and mic dont seem to activate as even if I try to record call which feels like muted for both caller and receiver ends, call audio recorder while recording does not pick up any sound trough phone microphones, so I think its something to do with settings in some file not done right or else I dont know what I could be doing wrong.
both sim cards worked 100% ok before ROM flash, but now I'm lost because I cant even flash back to old stock rom, and yes I have gathered original android 4.xx rom but it fails flashing via ODIN every time, so my best bet is on doing some DIY on current MagMa-NX note7 port rom... I wonder if there are any fellows who I could buy the paypal-beer for great help sorting me out on this DIY project? Please PM me or post here if you feel like you could collaborate in resolving this dilemma for me... would highly appreciate folks
I will keep an eye out
I think I figured something. Everytime I attempt to make a phone call on this, I get to choose from which sim card should I dial, #1 or #2 , but what I have noticed now is that I am being asked "SIM1" or "Slot2" ... SLOT 2 I thought? That may be the reason that audio routing doesnt work well for this... tried searching build.prop but this string is not there and I just dont know where to search for this string to get this fixed, anybody can chime in?
Thanks
Did you figure it out ? As i have the same problem with the same rom in addition that when i call anyone and he is on a call i don't get notified with " call waiting

Which CSC did you choose?
I did not figure anything out guys... as I was trying to get this working, I tried every CSC option possible... none worked. Which should have been the one that's working for this models?
in fact Im thinking of selling this beauty of note3, its almost new... in case someone interested I have it... because I would love note7 port rom on this, and nothing else... PS I could live with it being just single-sim option, it works but not perfect as sim #2 is useless then... signal there and texts only works for it as described above...
at the moment its on stock adroid 5.0 and its all 100% ok and fine, flawless, but its boring!

Well, i know that mixer paths are different on single sim and dual sim phones.
Can you extract from stock rom the file "/system/etc/mixer_paths.xml" and overwrite the one in custom rom ?
I think I tried something similar if not exact with no success .. let me repeat the process just in case...
PS also, I will try and dump both versions of these files. Is there anything else I may need to dump from stock rom 5.0 rom?

There are some specific binaries and libs, but i'm pretty sure magma rom already inject them during flash when you select n9002 as variant.
Dumping the CSC folder is a good idea too.

Indeed, conflits may happen. But just dump it and let we examine it.
Ok here is what I managed to try, I backed up stock rom android 5.0 all working state mixer files from etc dir, then flashed magma rom again, backed up those same files for restoration to working state, replaced files with ones extracted while on 5.0 stock android, reboot device, no sound whatsoever, phone wont even buzz keypad dialtones or connect dial phonecalls just hangs. So I went and restored back original magmanx rom mixer files, reboot, but still no success... so now I have just finished restoring 5.0 again, will dump csc folder and share with you. will also need to charge my battery a bit because @ 30% cant expect much to happen when flashing magma nx...
Thanks for the help amigo!!!
Alright, tried merging csc from 5.0 to magmanx 6.0, no luck. then tried after this to merge mixer file from 5.0 to magmanx 6.0 , no luck, back at square1....
files attatched both versions... obviously something wasnt done right from looong time ago and had never been reported, been forgotten... in regards of 9002 users..

Indeed, the mixer_paths of TW6 is missing the whole part concerning "cp2" (second sim).
I'm not a reel dev but i tried to add missing parts from TW5.
Can you please try the attached mixer_paths on magma ? (don't touch csc).

Did you checked correct permissions before reboot ?
I'm afraid the problem is deeper than mixer paths.
I'll try to digg more.
I enable root explorer in third party file manage, grant permission, copy file from sd card to system/etc, prompt to overwrite -grant, overwrite complete, power off phone from power-button menu, power on, done. is this bad/incorrect procedure? magmanx has root from stock, when I navigate root dir I get access grant prompt, I grant it and then I can modify whatever.
please let me know what else I could do? maybe there are specific files I could look in to dump out of working 5.0 rom? Thanks!
or maybe just directory content filenames that could/would make sense by their name etc?
its weird, I think its something to do with the kernel itself... maybe Im wrong, but I dont think 9002/9008 kernels were ever made properly to be tested thus the errors... I cant even find any other kernels for 9002 other than included in magmanx and it aint working well anyway

The file "mixer_paths.xml" must have permission set to 0644 (like other files in /system/etc directory).
And try darklord Kernel.
6044 is as per read/write permissions for user enabled, as per this link http://permissions-calculator.org/decode/0644/ , I assume these permissions will auto set after moving replacing file do they not?
Where do I obtain the darklord kernel? I was pretty sure it comes with it... let me re-do the rom and take some snips as I go

Sorry i just noticed you already have darklord kernel.
And set permission like other files in this directory (if not already done by your file manager).

1. I have glitches when rotating the screen, but never see them when switching apps, even when using double tapping of recent app button to fast switch between 2 most recent apps.
2. I will look into this one, however could you kindly be more elaborate that during all those steps, was your t705 mounted to you laptop thru. MTP ?
3. I could not reproduct this one neither, my avatar in owner profile now is clearly showing that the nose is below the eyes.
Thx for reporting. Keep them coming.

1 yes.. . Glitches in opening apps, and rotating it.
2. Yah, thru MTP. I can't see my file, but ext sdcard is accesible thru my laptop, but not a copied file. When i look for it into "file explorer" in my tablet, it's there. So I have to unmount-remount my ext sdcard, and even worst i have to restart my tablet then i plug in back thru my laptop to get "my copied file" accessible..

I can reproduct this one, seems to me it's an long overdue bug of Google's implementation of MTP, related to media rescan. It happened under many circumstances, see this bug report --> https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37071807
Sadly, Google refuse to acknowledge it as a bug.

I ever had that issue, when i unisntalled google stock contact "Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk" to replace with "zenui dialer and contact"
I guessed your issue it's related with, that your stock contact isnt installed properly
Try to flash these two .apks (Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk) taken from your rom thru trwp or cwm recovery . It's solved my problem.
is there a way i can disable both phone and contacts ?
I am not on a rooted device

Yes, if you are coming from other ROM, it's really, truly, absolutely important to WIPE ALL before flashing.

So far not bad. Both my 3G and LTE data are working fine, not sure about calls yet as I haven't tried. I do get those weird artifacts when I rotate the screen, but I've seen that on most of the Nougat 7.1 based ROMs. Nice work with the Kernel. It seems to be VERY customisable in Deathly Adiutor which is great for me. As with all Nougat based ROMs, the audio input latency is the best it's ever been. I would like the ability to enable software keys and to be able to bypass the hardware keys because as you most certainly know they have a strong tendency to interfere with this device (I keep catching them with my hand). Also, the IR blaster doesn't work AT ALL. I would like that to be fixed as Peel Smart Remote is an everyday app for me and I can't use it with this ROM.

I can now say I can only just make a phone call with this ROM. It's echoey and almost unmanageable when it does work, but it doesn't always work (no sound, normally causes the phone to lock up and force reset upon hanging up). I really want a non-stock ROM that works, preferably Android Nougat 7.1.2 but everyone seems to get the half finished, get fed up and leave us in the dark, and then finally after 6 months mark it as discontinued (cough cough LiquidDeath). I hope you don't do that because this ROM is promising.
Edit: The locking up may have been my fault for overclocking too high.
Moto G3 2015 Osprey XT1541 1GB Ram.32bit(ARM)
AFAIK these roms cover other Moto G3 versions but investigate more for yourself.
Always keep Nandroid backups using TWRP of your running Rom. I keep copies of my latest Android 10 Chli360/Lineage running Roms on my Phone's portable SD card in the phone and also on my Laptop.
https://twrp.me
Warning!
I've never bothered with any Android 8 Oreo roms on my G3 2015 Osprey. I went straight to Android 9(PIE).
https://chil360.github.io
I've tried most and now I'm only interested in the Lineage versions and the Havoc versions of Android 10 as these keep the Hardware FM radio that I like to use.
Havoc version,
Havoc-OS-v3.3-20200306-osprey-Unofficial.zip
Working fine and
Lineage,
ineage-17.1-20200308-UNOFFICIAL-osprey.zip
Working fine.
Note: If I recall correctly Chil360 Havoc Android 10 Rom does not need Gapps installing. If Lineage does I use Arm_10_Pico,
Note:
When setting up the phone I never let the phone install backups automatically I have my apps backed up on my SD card and re-install them from there. Google photos will not not clone-Install and a few others so I just re-download those.
Contacts:
Although Google backs up contacts lists to be safe I keep an,"Old School" backup using the Contact's apps Import/Export option and save them to a .vcf file. This will look like contacts.vcf or 000001.vcf on the phone wherever you have chosen to save it. This can be imported into any contacts app,Even on APPLE phones!
I send a copy of this .vcf file to myself attached to an Email. This means I can download my contacts to any phone anywhere in the World if I ever need to.
Note:
I never encrypt my phones so cannot answer any questions on this subject.
If you want to,"Root" the phone then install the .zip version of Magisk from your phone's Internal Memory and keep it on your phone's Internal memory. You install the .zip using TWRP's install option and always take it's advice on clearing Dalvik Cache and Cache.
Then once the phone is booted update both it and it's manager via an Internet connection.
Note: Some,"Pay/Money" apps will detect that you are running a non-stock rom. You can hide these apps using,"Magisk Hide" and in some cases you need to Hide the app AND then use Magisk option to rename itself. You can call it anything you like but keep it simple like Osprey.
HTH
Moto G3 2015 Osprey XT1541 1GB Ram.32bit(ARM)
Chil360 has updated the April 2020 Havoc 3.4 and it now installs on the Above phone. I am testing it as I post.
Havoc-OS-v3.4-20200417-osprey-Unofficial.zip. Does not require Gapps installing.
BTW I do like the AOSP_Pizza Android 9 rom for Chil360 as well(Still has FM RAdio).
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=4349826312261742008
I go back to it sometimes as it has some features others don't have like showing local temp on the Lockscreen and also allows me to install a Custom boot animation logo. I like the old,"Stitch" Moto Logo
The Android 10 roms won't let me change the animated loading logos(They will let me change the static boot logo) or I need to find versions that will work with Android 10
Moto G3 2015 Osprey XT1541 1GB Ram.32bit(ARM)
Just thought I'd update.
Started to install Chil's latest Paranoid Android and it installed fine but stopped as I realized it doesn't have as many tweaks as Havoc 3.4.
Things I like about Havoc 3 series.
I can have,
Date and time in the notification bar.
Battery percentage next to Battery icon and time left when Notification bar is swiped down.
Easy to swap software buttons(I'm right handed so like my Back button on the right).
It still lets me use my old version of Holo Launcher.
You can assign functions to the Software buttons like Long press to Lockscreen. Can't seem to get Long press to enable the Flashlight tho
Advanced Restart on Power button.
Loads more tweaks to explore.
One thing I would like but I'm not sure if the Motos are capable but I have a cheap China phone that lets me double tap the screen to wake it up and I don't mean just at the Top of the phone I mean anywhere on the screen.
I can't see myself using any other version except as stated AOSP Pizza for a bit of a change now and then
PS
Continued thanks to CHIL his work is much appreciated keeping these Classic little phones going
Latest Chil360 roms are out. I'm running Havoc(May Security updated) but FM radio not working
Has anybody else had issues with the FM radio not working after upgrading to v3.5-20200508 version of Havoc Android 10 for Moto G3 2015? I found after upgrading to this version, the FM radio would no longer work, it would just freeze. Downgrading to v3.4-20200417, it would work perfectly again. Upgrading again to v3.5-20200508, it no longer would work. Has anything been changed that would cause this? Other than this issue, I believe that the ROM is excellent.
Gord
Glad you found this. Checking the FM radio is usually one of the first things I do but didn't this time
Yes you are right it's not working for me as well in Havoc 3.5.
Gone back to 3.4 with no problems :good:

Thank you for responding to my reply and addressing the FM radio issue. I have found one other ongoing problem with the camera app. This has been occurring with all custom roms that I have tried whether Android 9 or 10. When photos or videos are saved to the internal phone, they go to the "main storage\DCIM\Camera" directory. I however like to save my photos and videos directly to the SD card.
With Android 6 they could be directed to "sdcard\DCIM\Camera" directory but with all custom roms I've tried when directed to the SD card, they wind up in "sdcard\Android\data\org.lineageos.snap\files" directory. Can this be changed so they go directly to the default location "sdcard\DCIM\Camera" directory?
Thanks
Gord

I haven't used a Stock android Camera for years. I use the way better,"Open Camera" .You can set it to save to the SD card by enabling it's framework option and then pointing it to the SD card. It now says it contains ads but It used to be ad-free but I haven't seen any ads even in the latest version.

Open camera has worked on all the roms I've tested.
Try another Camera app and if it does it with that you may have a hardware fault
Make a Nandroid backup and then do a Factory reset from Recovery mode but when setting up the phone don't let Google auto install any apps and just get to the Stock camera as soon as you can and see if it works. There may be an app you install that is causing the problem.
BTW.
Check back through this thread on how I install custom roms. I do it clean and add my apps back after I've got into the phone from .apk backups.

See previous reply and also I don't know if you know the,"Soft Reset" trick on Moto phones that can clear some problems.
Press and hold the Power button in for around 10/15 seconds until the phone restarts. This emulates taking the Battery out and can clear clogged RAM of old data that can prevent correct operation
I've been running the latest May AOSP PIZZA
AOSiP-9.0-Pizza-osprey-20200517.zip
Since yesterday and all seems fine so far. Only thing missing is the local Temp on the lock screen unless I'm missing a setting. This was the same with the last version
Not a deal breaker
Installed Chil360's latest AOSP_QUICHE Android 10 June updates(Clean install).
AOSiP-10-Quiche-osprey-20200605.zip
All working well including FM Radio. Updated TWRP using the APP to 3.3.1 as the TWRP clock and date went funky but may not be related.
Phone is still rooted with Magisk and Root removed before installing clean and then re-rooted and Magisk updated.
Nice editing option to move Software buttons around in the AOSP roms. When texting I have a habit of hitting the Home button making my SMS app disappear. I've moved my Home button a little off-centre more to the right(I'm right handed) and this has cured that
Update. The Rom is working well but it's doesn't feel as slick as the AOSP_PIZZA version(May version) so I've gone back to that for now just out of personal preference.
So presently my faves are Havoc 3.4 and Havoc 3.6(Android 10) 2020 and AOSP_PIZZA Android 9 May 2020 version(Moto Stitch Boot animation).
Again my ongoing thanks for CHIL360's work in keeping these great little phones updated
Latest Android 10 Havoc 3.6 released by Chil360 with June 2020 updates,
https://chil360.github.io/ten.html
Gapps included.
Installed and all working e.g Text/Calls/GPS/FM Radio/ WiFi/WiFi Hotspot/Camera/Bluetooth etc.
Very fast booting and really slick
One possible glitch is the Stock Camera has the option to Save to SD but it doesn't seem to work. As I rarely use the Stock Camera preferring the much better,"Open Camera" from the Playstore this is not an issue for me
PS
Because of the dedication of the Android Developers on here we have an old 2015 Phone/s with more up-to-date software than many brand new phones
Chil360 has released a first and new Rom to his collection. Android 10 PixelExperience Plus 10.0,
https://chil360.github.io
If you like Google I think you will like this
I wonder if he might be looking to work on the new Android 11 if it can be used on the Moto G3
Then install Gapps if required.
Then do another Factory reset for good measure.
If ever there's a problem when first setting up after the first boot-up has loaded just press and hold the Power Button in for around 10/15 seconds and the phone will reboot(Soft Reset) which emulates taking the Battery out. [/B]
Chil360 has released a new Rom,
potato_osprey-10-20200619-croquette.v3.2.0+15.Community.zip
Unfortunately I cannot test it as it boot-loops.
Tried all my tricks but no good
Gone back to Havoc 3.6
Latest POSP Croquette v3.2.0-hotfix+16 loads but no FM radio so no good to me
Back to Havoc 3.6(Android 10)/ AOSP_PIZZA Android 9 May version
July 2020 Havoc 3.7 released by Chil360.
Installed clean and running well
The Havoc 3.7 July 2020 release by Chil360 IMO is the best and most stable custom rom I've tested for Moto g3 2015 (osprey) and is highly customizable. I especially like the "smart battery charger" feature which allows the charger to be set at a maximum percentage in my case 92%. I have not found any other custom rom with this feature. This will help prolong the battery life by not charging it to 100% every time. The July 2020 release installed fine and is running with no apparent problems. I tried the latest "official" lineageos version July 3 2020 but had problems with random spontaneous reboots.
