Hello guys. My Google Pixel died and Google is refusing to repair it (long story), so I need another phone, but I don't want to spend another 600 dollars.
I have two options: Huawei Honor 6X ($200 5.5 3GB RAM 32GB) or Moto G5 Plus (225 5.2 4GB RAM 64GB). The Moto looks better on paper, for 30 more dollars I get double the storage and 1GB more of ram.
I understand this forum should be biased towards the Moto, but I was wondering if any of you would give an honest opinion on why one or the other, or maybe another phone for no more than 250?
I don't play games, I am mostly using for calling, whatsapp, and pictures. Good quality of pictures are very nice to have. I am also not that interesting on ROMs as long as the standard one is updated with security fixes.
Any comments? Thank you!

I've owned bith the 6X and this device. Get the Moto. The 6X is a terrible device.
Dont go for G5 Plus
Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
This was one of my choices, along with a few others, when I got my G5+... I looked at both at Best Buy, but couldn't get over the UI on the Huawei and we have had a few of their devices before. Their UI is heavily modified, and later versions like on the 6x actively try to keep you from changing launchers to alternatives like Nova.
TBH, there is no device in the $200-$300 I would get right now except the G5+ (I have not looked at the G5S though), for $225 it has everything a person needs, phenomenal screen on time and multitasking capabilities, and essentially a stock AOSP interface. The camera is acceptable, although not great and a tad inconsistent with one picture being great and the next kind of meh, but the tests I did in BB with the 6x gave similar results so it was wash to me.
At the $225 mark, the G5+ is a bargain and it is more than worth that... Although if you think this might be temporary until you get something more high-end, consider the E4+ which frequently goes for $169 on sale, or the Axon 7 Mini for $199 (many Best Buy stores still have them in stock). I think the Axon 7 Mini is a tremendously under-rated bargain at $199 with it's camera and sound quality. The E4+ will easily give you 8 hours of SOT over
As far as updates go, it is hit and miss... Huawei frequently updates their higher-end phones, but their mid to low range models not so much. Unfortunately, Lenovo has fallen into this category as well and updates are often 3-6 months behind on G series devices. They also recently made it clear that the G will only get one major OS upgrade, not two as was the norm for Moto, so although that might sway you remember that other phones in this category have a similar or worse update policy.
Moto G5 Plus has been rated top budget smartphone by multiple top tech websites. I strongly believe for your needs the G5 Plus is the way to go.

Get the A1. Confirmed upgrades to Oreo and P
I like the camera placement on g5 plus. Very symmetrical. And also the rugged feel. But like the A1 software. But hate Mi build type. G5 screen is washed out. But mi screens are good. And the list goes on.
I'm thinking of upgrading my G6 to either the G7 or the V30. Is it worth going to the V30 given its age? I play a bit of games like Injustice 2, MKX, PubG, and some others, and I've been having a bad time gaming on the G6. Would either be better, or one more than the other? I've seen performance and CPU throttling issues on the G7 when it comes to gaming. I know the G7 has the 845 and the V30 has the 835, both which have to be better than the 821. Any advice you guys could send my way would be so appreciated.

Avoid LG.. No updates.. :crying: It's worse for Indian users. No Oreo update yet.
As soon as i can i will upgrade to a One Plus 6, i wont go for LG anymore..
I'd avoid LG at all costs. They're too slow with updates, even in the west.
If you INSIST on getting another LG phone, do some research beforehand and make sure you get a variant that can be flashed with a custom recovery so you can flash Lineage or something. Like I said, LG is too slow with updates, so you're gonna have to take matters into your own hands.
Go for one plus 6 its as powerful as G7 , even better in gaming and software update support at least 2 years not like Lg barley 1 year ?

Lol. Skip the name calling please, it's immature and unnecessary.
I am considering a G6 right now. My carrier is selling them for $360 on a 2 year interest free loan. That's a lot of phone for that money.
Well, either way, I went with the G7 today. It was between the 3 phones I had listed above because they are stocked by T-Mo. I couldn't get into the curved sides of the S9, and I just didn't want to get older tech with the V30 if I'm getting a new phone. Having the Quad DAC and the speaker on the G7 are what really pushed me to it, I downloaded my apps again and have to reinstall their data so we'll see how the gaming front is. It obviously comes with Oreo out of the box and had another system update before I even left the store, not to 8.1 of course. But, so far it's a better Oreo experience than my G6 was giving me. And I'm not too upset with notch which I thought would prove to be an issue.
I updated my g6 DS taiwan model with the g7 eu model tru lack of updates in 14 months. Now i am with lg again surpriced. G7 got may patch first and jumped to July patch yesterday. So in updates a big tumb up for once, Lg learned with newer devices and project trebble. Future tells more. I compared my needs with the OP6 for about 2 week and comparing manny other devices to like zenfone 5Z also wide angle and stereo, but lacks waterproof and to expencive for what it was.Like g6 the g7 is waterproof,BIG MUST HAVE for expensive phones to me. OP6 can handle a raindrop so underwater test failed it on YT.Also i prefer a wide angle over zoom lens, The expandable storage big plus .If a phone like oneplus crash , break or drown accidently you loose everthing. A sd card allways saves it i guese. The boomspeaker is pretty good on the g7,wireless charging and quad Dac audio 'OP6 do not'.Double tap to wake works better than OP6 to ive read. They also removed AOD, you still have on g7 if you prefer. Now On amazon Germany the G7 cost 564euro and oneplus 128gb 570euro and the 64 gb 519.So no excuse to me its more value for that price and im happy with the G7. The LM G710EM is also rootable.I was confused to buy a next LG, but not one phone is perfect but It runs smooth, no lags, pretty good battery life over g6 and awesome screen to me and updates should come faster now. But the price an features you get for almost same price as OP6 made it for me. This is my opinion on my needs. Only thing i could complane is the camera needs some improvements with focus, detail and swithing between main cameras.. OP6 did have problems to with camera first but got a update lately.

Has anyone considered switching to this line? I must say I'm actually surprised there's not more Dev support in this line.
I guess it's because most people favour a phone over a space ship..

Not the Nubia,it's like an old Nintendo gamepad with phone capabilities, too many buttons and bumpers for my liking and the Software looks trash,
I'm definitely on the lookout for some other brand as OnePlus is getting expensive,
Redmi k20 looks interesting and the Poco f2 if it's not identical to the redmi,
For me in Ireland it's about availability, these phones take forever to come out by which time there's something more interesting on the horizon.
Importing from a dodgy sites is always a bad experience
It's a good alternative. Display 90hz, Adreno 640, wifi = ac connection, decent camera, a lot of ram & internal space. About 200 euro/$ less than Op.
Or Xiaomi MI 9. Price reduced from 500 $, now it's 378$.
Only thing that puts me off a bit is I saw the tear down by Jerry rigs everything and there's absolutely no sealing in the phone. No adhesive for the back, screen, nothing.
Redmi k20 pro is looking most likely contender, half the price and probably now the new flagship killer
Do you guys recommend this phone? Does it have active development? Are there any cons? Best pros/features you like?

Yes, I recommend it strongly, but this was my choice and I am not in your shoes!
yes, there is nothing better for like $280-300. The only con is lack of OIS to me. I actually have grown to like MIUI, MIUI 11 is fine, It does everything you'd expect and it's not intrusive.

Right now I have the Mi 8 Lite and as far as I can see, this phone has Androud 10 and other roms more active, than my current phone.
I think it's a great phone hitting all the spots and the best out of the Mi 9 segment, but I'm a little disappointed with the development scene. There still doesn't seem to be an official TWRP version and cROMs are not really there yet. If you're fond of custom development you might want to check out the other device subs and see ho active they are. Going by bang for your buck I think this phone is the best available atm.

It's a really good phone for the price. I got the 128gb model from AliExpress for around $300, and it's great. The cameras, although they lack optical stabilization, are pretty good, and are even better with GCam. I installed Paranoid Android Quartz Alpha on mine, and other than the fact that I can't seem to easily use the built in HiFi DAC on it, it's a great experience to use. The main con for me is that it's a little too heavy for me; I can get wrist strain just from using the thing. It's probably because of the glass back; I would've preferred plastic as it's cheaper, more durable to drops, and is lighter. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Going by performance it definitely is. I honestly like the SD730 in the MI 9T since it's plenty enough performance for me and more battery saving. The differences in camera are almost moot, I feel. And the price difference between the two is about 100€ in my country. Not worth getting the Pro imo.

I was almost regretting not getting the pro version while I was waiting for the phone to arrive in the mail. But when I got it I was blown away with how good the SD 730 is. I was coming from a 636(redmi note 5 pro).
Pros for me is:
- amazing battery life
- hotspot only drains around 6% battery in an hour
- an amazing full screen experience with no notch
- can play all my games at high settings fluid.(for pubg you need gfx tool for 60 fps because developers of the game don't care about our device for some reason). But pretty much every game seems to run amazing on this chipset.
You can't really go wrong with this device imo.

I agree, in fact i would say that the performance difference isn't even what make the Pro Better, it is the custom dev that is much more active.

Hello!
I've had my Oneplus One since forever now, though it's still reliable and it still functional, I think it's time to plan on getting a new phone when it eventually goes to smartphone heaven or if I need a more modern hardware for my needs.
Oneplus One is fairly quite popular and still gets support from LineageOS(official and unofficial nightlies). A lot of people still use this phone.
My question is what other phones has the same kind of support? Or let me rephrase my question, What other phone or phones do you think will generate this type of long lasting support just like the Oneplus One?
I'm looking at those budget friendly phones from Umidigi and Xiaomi. Do you think they'll have the same long lasting support as the Oneplus One?
Thanks!
I also had a oneplus one since the first invite system. I went with mi 9t pro. Its like oneplus one at the time but without any compromise. No overheating, great camera and excellent battery life.

I was on the same boat. Just few months back i changed to OnePlus 7T and i feel the phone is good.
Camera performance is not upto the mark. It's ok.
Software wise it's good. Design and in-hand feel is just not bad. Nothing special.
I was planning to get the Samsung s10plus which was my number 1 in the list. My friend was using it and i had too used it for few weeks and decided to buy it. But last minute mind changed and i got OnePlus 7T. Samsung s10plus is better in every way.
Software support - i cannot confirm that newer OnePlus devices will get support like OnePlus one.

My current issue with Oneplus is their phones are hella expensive now unlike before. Plus I hate notches. lol
I would buy redmi k30 instead of k20 premium. Price would be the same. K30 zoom edition advantages are 5G, gpu driver updates, better camera because of OIS, etc.

Too expensive for what it offers. Also in india Mi and Redmi phones comes with ugly ads(semi nude or inappropriate) So make sure if that isn't a issue for you.

Hi, I've been using OpO from the launchment to 9 months ago. I decided to change it for the Mi9T Pro.
And after 7 months with Custom AOSP ROM installed I can say it was totally worthy for the price I paid at this moment and remove the MIUI system. It's like the Oneplus One but better but without been Oneplus

I had 1+One since the premiere. All these years it was my main device, now it's time for a change. I bought 1+8Pro.

i bought the opo from USA by invite and got it to india, after using that, i upgraded to oneplus 3, and now i have upgraded after many years to k20 pro, and i have changed the os to AOSPA extended on the day i got it and i am having a beautiful notch-less phone with pure android experience on top, also all banking and other apps are working quite well.

I certainly wouldn't say it works flawlessly these days... Since lineageOS 16 (Pie) the GPS has become very unreliable for some reason. On android 10 any app that uses location or maps API crashes immediately. Sad to say its a major deal breaker for me, I drive every day and have always relied on GPS navigation as a crucial function of my phone. I've been forced to move on to a Pixel 2 XL, but will be keeping my eye on development for this phone. It's unfortunate to see the GPS in such a sad state.
GPS had received some overhaul (apparently resulting in temporary breakage) in the past weeks. @ThunderThighs do you still see the issue with more recent builds?
