SIM issues after Oreo update - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

After the Oreo update, I've been having issues with my SIM card. After a reboot, I sometimes get a notification saying "SIM not allowed", and other times it doesn't detect the SIM at all. Usually a reboot fixes these issues, but it's still annoying. I'm not sure when it started, but I think it happened around when I installed Xposed.

I'm experiencing the same, don't know whats causing this because I'm on Stoke Oreo flashed with Fastboot Image. I was using Pixel Experience Oreo before.
I'm on pure stock with locked bootloader but sometimes after reboot mobile doesn't detect one of my SIM. As you stated reboot solves this but it still annoys me considering it's happening on stock ROM.

Do you also get the SIM not allowed thing or just the SIM not detected?

Volte calling issue after 7.1.1 update

I am facing a strange issue just after 7.1.1 update, The 4g calling icon on the status bar suddenly disappears sometimes and does not came back , even if I toggle the airplane mode several times it does not come back. In that situation I am not able to make calls from jio, the only way to get back 4g calling is by restarting the device which is very annoying as I have to restart my device 2-3 times a day for this issue?
Is anyone facing similar problem?
Is there a permanent solution for this issue?
didn't face any Volte issues till date ! Using JIO sim too
what was your mode of updating to Nougat ? i mean OTA or manual.
Did you reset the phone ? ( Both hard reset and software reset)

I flashed the stock image via cmd
No VoLTE issues here too.
I had too flashed the fastboot file for my device using ADB. There was no such issue present for me. Can you please explain when and in which circumstances you are facing this issue? We may be able to help you further then

There's some problem with the sim or the SIM slot bro. Can you get it checked at the nearest authorised service centre?

Well I don't think here is any issue with the sim or the sim card slot. I tried with another jio sim and the issue was there. I even did a factory reset and still the issue persists. there was no such issue on 6.0.1.
It does not make sense taking the device to service center as its out of warranty and they will charge a bomb for it. The moto g5 plus had similar issues and was fixed by an ota update. The last option left for me is to reflash the firmware and if that even does not solve which I am sure wont work I am going to sell the device.
Does anyone get enhanced volte option if we put the jio sim on second slot

Sim card not recognizing

Got a tough one. Ever since last Wednesday my SIM card hasn't been recognizing like it should be. It will randomly stop working and not work again untill I flash a new rom/backup/stock. I've tried clearing the cache... Nothing. When I go into *#*#4636#*#*, if I turn of radio power, it will recognize my phone number after about 10 seconds. Also, It says that APN settings are not available for this user under APN settings... Any help is appreciated, thanks.

This only works with mediatek devices...
I have seen many posts about the sim card error, and have now experienced it myself. I have a USC XT1768 (on AT&T), running RR for about the last 4 months. Everything has worked perfectly until 3 nights ago when, suddenly, for no reason I had no service & saw there was "no sim" recognized. A Google search led me to switch to 3G and turn on airplane mode and reboot. After rebooting, I turned off airplane mode and service was restored. However, I am forced to use only 3G. After multiple "tests" switching back to 4G LTE, I always lose service. Yesterday, I "tested" again and LTE worked for about 8 hours before I got the sim card error. I re-did the airplane mode/3G process and I was back in business...just with 3G.
Last night when I got the "No Sim" error, I noticed that the preferred network in *#*#4636#*#* was "Unknown". It had been set to LTE/UMTS/Auto. It doesn't seem to make a difference if I switch it to Global, or anything else. The problem remains. Oddly, when I just entered *#*#4636#*#*, the preferred network setting was on WCDMA. Weird...I didn't select that setting.
Anyway, maybe this can kind of help someone else.
Tried the airplane mode/3g thing, still nothing for me. Just "lost" all recognition of a SIM. Nothing. No matter what I do, won't recognize. Lots online about it, loaded the latest F/W, etc., still nothing. The phone is like a new phone. Something feels hinkey about it though. Seems it's happening to unlocked Moto phones after about two-months.

I've had it for about a year when it happened, but what I did was send it to Moto and just told them it stopped working out of the blue. Flashed stock and sent it in. Within about 4 days they sent a new one. I would recommend that if you have a backup phone.
Did you have an unlocked bootloader (using the Moto code they send along with the warning that it'll void warranty)? If they still warrantied it, I'll do what you did, then sell the replacement ASAP. What an unreliable POS...

Not really. Clearly a small percentage of E4s have a SIM problem; Moto should own up to it. However, that's unlikely as they never acknowledged the HW GPS issue on the G4P line that impacts a much larger proportion of devices.

I think it's more related to custom modifications

Yeah, it was unlocked but I don't know why they had still look it though..
If you erase modemst1 and 2, the SIM will be recognized again. At least, it was on my XT1768. I wrote a small TWRP flashable version, for when it happens when I'm out and about. Just boot to recovery and "install" it. It's attached to my reply.
Additionally, the following firmware build is supposed to have the fix for this issue: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=746010030569967659
Addendum: AFAIK, all Moto E4's running a build less than NPQ26.69-64 have the SIM issue. From what I've seen, it happens when one doesn't have any signal for a few hours, then comes back into an area that has a signal.

Can you boot TWRP or another custom recovery? Need that to apply the 'fix' in the form presented. Not even sure it will work on a bootloader locked device.

Must be other variables involved. Have a much older build and frequently travel to/through areas with no coverage. Have yet to experience a SIM issue.

Your bootloader is locked, so you can't apply my fix from TWRP. You will need to hook up your phone to a computer, boot your phone to your bootloader (power + down), on your computer cd to your Android Sdk tools directory, then run "fastboot erase modemst1" and "fastboot erase modemst2", then reboot your phone.
However, you should be getting OTA updates. The most recent firmware should prevent the issue.

Hardware Issue: Moto G5 Plus not connecting to network

Hi All, I have a Moto G5 Plus XT1686 from India. Since yesterday, the both SIMs don't register with the network, even if it does register I am unable to make./receive calls nor messages. I had tried Network reset, From Phone information changed settings to LTE/WCDMA even Factory reset. My phone is still boot loader locked. Anything I could do to reset the phone to working state, before I could get a new SIM. I dont have another phone from which I can check if this is a SIM problems, however I am trying to check that as well.

Just before installation, while the notification came up. Oreo seems to work fine, finally narrowed it down to the SIM connectors, so need to get that replaced.
SIMs seems to work fine.

I had the similar issue after oreo update. When i checked *#*#4636#*#* in phone info it showed radio off.
I solved it by flashing modem from the Oreo flashable zip of Soak test 1 and everything is working fine now.

Have to eject sim after a reboot for the phone to read it (Global Rom)

Hello everyone. After a lengthy battle, yesterday I finally was able to unlock my bootloader, flash a global rom (via MiFlash) to my Redmi Note 7 and lock the bootloader again using fastboot.
However I've encountered an issue that is very annoying. Every time the phone boots, it fails to read my Sim card, so I'm forced to eject it and then reinsert it in order for it to work properly. I use an SD card and I tend to reboot my phone once or twice a week, so you can get an idea of how much of an inconvenience this is.
I'm pretty sure this must be a software Issue because before the ROM change, I've never had an Issue with this. My phone model is M1901F7H and the rom is Miui global (10.3 Stable 10.3.5.0).
I need to mention that my current carrier (I got the phone from them) disables the hybrid sd card/sim slot and sells the phone with only one working sim slot and a custom ROM. After installing the global rom I noticed that now I can enable/disable the dual 4G connectivity for both sims toggle (it was greyed out before) however that is the only option regarding the dual sim settings that I can interact with and the second slot is still only usable for an Sdcard.
Currently I don't care much about the dual Sim feature, but it has crossed my mind that maybe my current Issue is related to this?
Anyways, thank you for taking your time to read this post and I apologize for the wall of text.
I would be very grateful if someone could help out.
Edit: I forgot to mention that one of my banking apps is now unusable as it crashes over and over again since I've installed the Global Rom. Don't know if it's related to the issue, but it worked just fine beforehand.
Check out my thread.
I'm also on 10.3.5 and think the issue is software related.
After reading your post, I'm thinking we may have something similar going on. My phone is working fine with no problems reading the SIM card after a factory reset a few days ago.
Hopefully you don't end up having the exact same problem I did.
I also have the same problem, I have to take out the SIM every time I reboot, I have the derpfest ROM and so far I have not been able to solve the error.

Problem with detecting the SIM card after unlocking the bootloader on OOS11

Hey, I have a question for people who have unlocked bootloader - do you happen that once in a while, the phone does not detect the SIM card after a restart?
Because I have such a problem since updating to Android 11, it does not happen on a locked bootloader, but on unlocked sometimes I have to restart the phone up to 4 times in a row until the phone detects the SIM card. I have had this problem for several months now, no system update has fixed it so far.
At first I thought that maybe it was a defect of my model or my SIM card tray, but 2 days ago my girlfriend bought a OnePlus 8T, I unlocked the bootloader on her phone and the same thing started to happen, her phone also has problems detecting the card SIM now, did any of you have a similar problem and maybe found a solution?
I have the same problem as you described on my 8 Pro.
I haven't had that problem with my 8 Pro although I unlocked the bootloader and rooted it first before I put my sim card in and made sure I already did these and updated before even using the sim

It happens to my 8pro too once in awhile. I just need to reboot several times.
I have exactly the same issue with mine. In case anyone wants to start comparing notes, I have an 8 Pro with a fairly old Verizon SIM (actually was a Micro SIM that was cut down). I've found that it happens almost every time you reboot, but almost never if you do a full power off and then power back on. I don't remember having the problem with the original OOS11 but after 11.0.2.2 it started showing up.
