Hi all,
I wanna use the S8 with Dex as low energy consuming entertainment system in my mobile home.
I tried the LG G5 and I'm nervous now ... Some unfixable problems ...
Some questions please
1. In Dex mode, goes the screen in standby?
With my LG G5 and MHL adapter the screen is staying black ... And never standby ... Waste of energy
2. If you let the phone in the station is the batterie staying full? With lte network, Wi-Fi hotspot and some usage like netflix.
My LG G5 is not staying full batterie ... Sometimes till 0%...
Greetings Chillcamper
Screen does go off on the phone while docked, and the phone charges as normal on the Dex, does not drain while using.
Hey Nazty,
ok cool.
But I'm talking about the monitor.
I'm using an Asus 27 inch monitor.
The monitor is at the moment never going in standby.
It's just black and it is not stopping ... It will never go in standby. This it a huge energy drain
Is the connected monitor going in standby with the Dex station?
Would you check this please?
Greetings Markus
Push, common please, it's important for me.
Is the connected monitor going in standby if you let everything connected and stop usage like at the pc?
I wanna let it permanent connected together.
Greetings Chillcamper

My battery loses 33% every night, it is switched off wih all of the phone, wifi, bluetooth switched off. Is this not a bit much to lose every night? Could this be a problem with my battery? Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Euan
Yes that's not right at all, I don't turn my phone radio off and still will only loose a few percent overnight. Are there any application left running, reminders or alarms that are waking the device up?
It might be more of an issue of the callibration of the battery monitor. Have you tried allowing a full discharge then a full recharge and see if that fixes what is reported, otherwise consider that you have a defective battery. Is it a new device or second hand?
this is an issue with Radio 1.08 and 1.09
As Gajet says check apps running in the background, the Camera app in my experience will drain your battery
I don't pay particular attention to what's running on the phone overnight now, other than I turn the wireless mode on so I don't get rung at 3am! Can't say I use the camera that much and upon looking at the phone in the morning, I'd be surprised if 5% has gone during the night.
I would certainly check that the cam app is closed before you leave it overnight. I presume nothing daft like Wi-Fi or a GPRS/3G connection is left running?
Cheers
Ant
EDIT - on the GPRS/3G note...do you leave the phone ON overnight and do you live on a GSM/3G signal boundary? I know that going back and forth into GSM/UTMS can cause battery drain as it's flipping between the two standards.

I am using radio version 1.09.00 but no battery power loss on mine.
1. Check if your previously used application(s) are not sitting in the ""Start->Settings->System(tab)->Memory->Running programs (tab)"" make sure there isn't any application sitting-down and sucking the battery power.
2. Check if your bluetooth is not continously on, bcs it really sucks the battery.
3. Check if your WiFi is not continously on, bcs this also drain the battery.
Also try "Spb Pocket Plus", this software has got a nice feature which close the application completely once you tap the "X" cross button.

Hi all,
Does anyone else experience serious battery problems.
My 9000 has push mail enabled from 8 in the morning till 8 in the evening. Infrared is disabled, screen brightness down to 2 noches.
At 12 o'clock i'm down to 30 % and at 2 o'clock i'm out of juice.
Rom I have on it is Qtek 1.30.77 WWE Protocol Version 42.42.P8 Ext ROM 1.30.176.
Anyone have any clue ?
Thanks
Its 3:00, I've had my MDA pro off charge since about 8:15 this morning and batery level is at 66% after about 45mins calling (about 35 mins of that on bluetooth headset), checking for new email every halfhour, playing a few games of solitare and looking at a couple of websites. Should last me until bedtime. The trick is to turn off stuff you're not using, and if you're not looking at the screen it doesn't need to be open and on. I have wifi and bluetooth disabled for now, and have set my network band selection to GPRS which is fine for email and not very graphics intensive websites (besides which tmobile don't have great 3G coverage in Norther Ireland at the moment).
What do you mean by open and on ?
You mean close the lid and turn it around so you don't see the screen ?
I noticed everytime it syncs , the screen turns on. Is this normal ?
Does anyone else have any ideas ?
no, he means press the Power button on the bottom to turn the screen off if ur not looking at it.
I have Blackberry on mine, I took it off charge at around 6 the other day, come lunchtime it was moaning that it was about to die. The battery is pretty useless for anything other than Average PDA use to be honest..
I tried to get an extender off ebay, it didnt work properly, I also bought a second battery off ebay, that didnt work either so if anyones tried an external rechargeable battery that provides power constantly then I'd be interested.
Last night I left my phone charging over night. This morning once I took ot off the charger the battery was reading one percent. I went ahead and put it on the charger thinking the mini USB cable connected to the charger (att OEM charger) might have slipped off. Well after charging it from my car for another 30 minutes it was still reading one percent battery. I went ahead and reset my phone and voila it registered as fully charged. The weird thing is that while it was in critical battery mode the phone was performing very slow. Just wondering if anyone ejse has experienced that.
Battery issue?
I had the same problem when I checked my phone this morning. I had it on the USB cable almost all day yesterday and I showed a full battery when I when I went to bed. This morning I had 1% battery. I am charging now on the USB cable again and it does seem to be charging so we'll see.

I don't know how windows manages their memory on this os. I know they said they wouldn't have multi tasking but thus far I have realized that they do allow some apps to run in the background. I know in previous windows os the biggest issue was apps staying on in the background and eating up memory . So I hope the battery issue and the lagging isn't a direct result from that .
The battery on my phone charges but seems very slow.
Well, i have GPS turned off, wifi off and it takes about 2 hours to charge with the screen being off. i get about 3+ days of normal use from a fully charged battery. Maybe you have many things turned on and as such the phone us using power to feed those and less to feed the battery?

yesterday I got a good 20 hrs or so with heavy data and push emails.. today I barely got 12hrs.. the only difference today for me was that location services was on.. So I think the battery drain comes from GPS mostly and definitely wifi if you keep it on
Yes, GPS and wifi can really be drains, bluetooth not so much it seems. As many of you know, if you are charging your phone using your computer's USB port it may be far s-l-o-w-e-r than using the faster AC adapter.
Ok and thanks for the tips. I have been using the wall charger. I will turn off location and see how that goes. Most of the time I don't need it anyway. I know where stuff is where I live. HAHAHA.
I've had my Focus for three days now and the battery never lasts more than 12 hours - and I haven't made any calls with it! I have it for testing, so it's not my main mobile but I've been using it for everything else. Internet, email sync, Zune, social networking, etc.
I turned off wifi, location, bluetooth, set the screen to low brightness and still only ~12 hours.
Hey guys,
I am currently on Roto JMI v2 flashed using Odin from Stock Asian ROM. I am facing a peculiar battery issue, was hoping you could help me out here
So i charge the Tab at around 2-3 % by switching it off and plugging it in for a good 4 hours or so. Once the battery meter (in off mode) shows 100% I disconnect the charger and switch on the Tab only to find that the battery shows 99% !!!
I also tried charging it again while switched on from 99% to 100% and as soon as it is done and I remove the charger, it again drops to 99% IMMEDIATELY!
What am i missing here?
Cheers & Thanks in advance!
This is a common thing. I have it. And I read other people do, so you're not alone.
The 100% will not hold. Perhaps the moment one unplugs the tab from power, it immediately takes 1% of power for the tab to reconcile and keep everything running.
Same issue here, was about to start a thread about it but you beat me to it.

I don't think that it actually consumes 1% of the power - it's just that the calibration of the battery meter is such that if you are at less than 100%, which you will be the second you switch the Tab on, it shows 99% because you've consumed some power.

Dave
I faced the same issue, but from what I observed, seems the root cause is the Power Management.
I have Battery Indicator Apk installed on both Tab and I9000, I9000 battery voltage can hit 42xxMV while shows 100%. But on Tab, the voltage was never above 4200, the highest I recorded was 4198mv. I strong believe it's one kind of "protection" to avoid the battery to be over charged to pro-long the battery life for Tab since the battery is not changeable.
Thanks for clearing that one up for me guys Glad to know it's not an isolated instance
My tab takes around a good 4 hours to charge to 100% but i notice that the drop from 99% to lets say 85% HAPPENS VERY QUICKLY. In like 20-25 minutes of use, I am down to the 80's. Its not like i switch on all the features on my Tab which cause the drain but just watching a video or surfing on the wifi leads to this. And i get really paranoid having a battery widget on screen because I can see the drop by 1% as I am on the Tab.
Any ideas? Best way to prolong the battery life? Currently I have 20% brightness, Power saving mode on, Wifi / APN switched off, on GSM mode only, background process for market disabled, no sync, clear my caches regularly, no significant widgets on homescreen. (Though using smart shortcuts).
Cheers & Thanks to all of you!

You are not alone
Hello all,
Trying to find some info about some behaviour my Iconia has.
I love my device. Way more capable than my wife's Ipad and all that. There's only one thing that irks me: battery drain while the device is idle.
I also have a B&N Nook 1st gen (for books) and an EVO 4G. I leave and use the Iconia mostly at home, close to the WiFi. I'll take it out for long trips and such, but it stays close. I have it set up so that the WiFi antenna turns off when the screen does. Low brightness on the screen, will only charge the battery when it's low enough to charge, etc. It stills drains close to 6-8% if I leave it alone a couple of hours.
Earlier today I rooted the device and use Bloatware Freeze to freeze some stuff. Eventually I'll get rid of some of the gunk the tablet has installed. I want to figure out how to shorten that gap. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me that the tablet left alone consumes 8% of battery charge! I mean, if nothing can be done then so be it, I'll learn to live with it.
For my money I would bet that there is something hidden in the Iconia's OS build that thinks it is a 3G/4G device. Now, I'm wondering what would happen if I were to take the next (logical) step and put another ROM in it. Would this make a difference? If I can make the battery drain stop at 5% or less, that would make this perfect.
Thx!

I leave my device with airplane mode checked, and then re-check wifi (as airplane mode will initially turn off your wifi). I get no strange programs showing up in battery usage now.
Will certainly try...
I'll try this next time I head out. Will leave her in Airplane Mode and will check the battery level when I come back.
I did disable the GPS and all location settings. I do not need it to know where I am, since I have the EVO for that.

Well I'm glad I came across this. I didn't even think about leaving the GPS on and consuming battery. Also, where did you adjust for your wifi to turn off when the screen goes off?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found it.
I am developing an app that uses bluetooth and I noticed that if I leave bt on my tab will go dead in 2 days, if I turn it off it can stay idle for several days before needing a charge. I leave the wifi on all the time.

Wow I don't even have 8% drain with Wifi on all the time. There maybe something else in the mix. Most of my drain is the screen as I set it to auto and in my home it ramps up brightness most of the time. Is it possible you have a rogue app? Have you tested the tablet 'fresh', ie: after a factory reset with 1 google profile set up?

This is interesting, on 3.01 & 3.1 I've had zero drain with screen off w/up to 16 hrs. Settings : Wi-Fi disconnect policy never when plugged in, location & security use wireless networks on & gps on. Airplane mode , always off. I can't understand why you folks are having these problems. Hope we find out. Oh & by the way that's not charging.
Forgot to mention I use Juice Defender.
Update
Well, after much tweaking I think I'm somewhere where I feel comfortable. As a disclaimer I don't take the Iconia with me on my daily commute. Again I take my EVO and my Nook with me. The tablet spends the entire time I'm out in the office at home, unused.
I disabled all screen animations and I'm using the tablet on the lowest brightness setting.
I disabled the GPS and all location-related settings.
I rooted the tablet and am using Bloat Freeze to freeze/disable some of the Acer 'junk'.
I put the table in Airplane mode before heading out.
Last night when I went to bed I didn't use it (I was reading a very good book and I did not use the tablet to watch any of my shows). So I put it in airplane mode after I played with the new Google Music app (Impressive!). I went to bed around 11:00 and woke up at 5:00. In this span of time, battery went down by 1%.
Used it this morning to tweet, check a couple of websites, email. Was @ 71% at 7:00AM. Came back close to 7:00PM. Battery was at 67%. Right now (8:50 EDT) it's at 1d 19h 55m on battery @ 59% charge. Heavy usage of TweetCaster, TuneIn Radio, Browser, Market, &c.
Mind you, it was not used for close to 8-9 hours or more. If I were to take it with me the consumption would be more, but then I would probably use Airplane mode when it was not in use. Besides, I can't use it at work b/c the wireless is not compatible.
I'll keep doing some research, but I'm comfortable. I accept the fact that it will drain regardless, since the OS is up. The previous consumption was too much, and I think I can live within the 2% - 4% consumption rate. If it can go down to 1%, though, that would be even better.
Any other ideas welcome.
beautiful Widgets comes with a widget to disable/enable wifi like we're all used to on our phones.
I loaded prime 9.3 today because I wanted to try a 3.2 rom (for GPS and sd-card reasons). On that rom I noticed the 3g settings were visible until I added the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" to build prop. I was able to see cell standby show up in batt usage.
Not sure if you guys knew it or not but under battery usage you can click on the graph to see a graphical depiction of what hardware used the battery when. If GPS was active when it shouldn't have been you'll see it there.
Interesting...
Are you suggesting that the 3g apk is active on the 3.1 image? I posted this question to a developer in Market that has an app that kills this on the Iconia. Maybe that's the other 2% - 4% I can kill.
Prime is a 3.2 rom. You could try adding that line and rebooting though.
To the stock 3.1 image? Interesting. Any instructions?
You'll need an app like root explorer that will let you mount the /system partition as read/writeable. In the /system directory there will be a build.prop file that you can open with a text editor (root explorer has this feature built in). You'll see many "ro.xxx" lines. At the end of the first group you'll just need to add the line "ro.carrier=wifi-only" without the quotes. Save and exit the file. Reboot tablet. On reboot, it will read the values in build.prop.
On the prime 3.2 rom, the settings for mobile networks are visible without that line added to build prop. I was actually seeing cell standby in the battery usage list. I never saw that on the stock rom. I use a toggle button for the wifi to quickly turn it on/off from the home screen and that keeps wifi from using any battery while sleeping..
I really doubt that GPS is the culprit in your case. Did you click on the battery usage graph to see what hardware was using the battery during the period of sleep?
Also remember
The % charge that the system reports is not always a very accurate indication of how much charge your system actually has - what matters is up time and how long you can go between charges.
Airplane mode is your friend - no real need to disable animation (has nothing to do with idle charge) - the only thing I do is enable airplane mode when away from charger and not using my tab - some of the drain you are reporting could be due to your system scanning for open hotspots.
Also remember all it takes is one poorly coded app to totally screw your battery over - as you are rooted, quite easy to check for apps that relaunch themselves even after closed, apps that want to phone home every 60 seconds - etc.
Would highly recommend you take a close look at any non-stock apps that you have installed.
