Diablotek 2 Tablet D2-721
Hi, I recently got a D2 tablet from Micro Center. I know it is a cheap tablet and I am not expecting great things, I just want to be able to customize it a touch so that things run a bit smoother.
I have already rooted the device, removed bloatware and installed Google Play, so I have things going a bit. I was just wondering if anyone knew of some custom ROMs for this device and/or a way to change the resolution/screen density. I have found some places for these things but only for the slightly older models that are running ICS (not JB) and have slightly different hardware specs, so I know it can be done I just cannot find any for the newer versions.
Any help is greatly appreciated and many thanks in advance!

[Edit] Also, does anyone know how to reboot this device into a Recovery Mode.
Did you try < adb reboot recovery syntax > ?
No, I have not but thank you for the information I will get around to doing that and let you.
Many thanks!
Device is not being found, but the computer does recognize it when I plug it in and My Computer will show it if I Turn on USB Storage.
The recovery command returns the message "error" device not found"
The device command returns a list with nothing showing up.
Any ideas? I have found a couple of ROM's but I need to be able to flash a Recovery mod and/or get into recovery to do anything. Trying to boot into recovery through any app just sends the device into the Android error logo upon boot and I cannot do anything.
Also, does anyone know how I would go about changing the screen resolution and/or density? Or perhaps can point me to some material that can show me how to do this?
I still need to get this tablet into recovery and find a custom ROM for it but most of my problems would be alleviated by adjusting my screen.
Well, I used the LCD app to adjust the density. It is more of a workaround than a fix but it will do for now.
Now, about getting this thing to boot into some sort of Recovery. It seems like this might be tied to the boot loader? Is anyone aware of a bootloader I could flash for this? Or can this be adjusted by modifying a system file? Or am I way off base and need to go about completely differently?
Well, the LCD app put the device into a boot loop and without a way to get into a recovery mode I am at a complete loss.
All the boot loop fixes I found require booting into recovery mode. ADB will not recognize the device while in a boot loop and neither will any other utility that I have found. Even the manufacturer's utility for flashing the stock firmware will not recognize the device in a boot loop.
Does anyone, anyone, have any idea of what my options here are? I have been searching and digging through forums for hours but to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Deleted, somehow this got posted on the wrong topic. Sorry for the inconvenience.
same problem
Hey, dont feel bad, Im in the same boat. I dont understand how the D2-721 doesn't have a volume -/+ keys, Ive probably skimmed through 5 different forums, spending about 1 1/2 hrs on each one, just reading. Trying to find out how to install custom recover and root on both my d2 pads, I have the 721 and 912, with no luck, the root script for the 721 wont even recognize the tablet, but the debug is working. ugh

i just picked up this tablet...and finally figured out how to get play store on it....and...now i am too wondering how to install a custom recovery.
I have an app called EzRecovery on my s3 that falshes recoverys, but that says its for the s3...guessing it wont work on this tablet
Yeah, I searched far and wide but this just isn't a popular tablet so there isn't a whole lot of customizations for it. The few that I did find were for the slightly older ones which would not work for this one. I was able to root and install Google Play but I never could find a custom ROM for it and I never could get a recovery mode for it.
Be VERY wary because without a custom recovery it is easier to brick this tablet than most Android devices. Which is exactly what happened to me. I took it back to the store and got the next tier up which was +$50 more, a Lenovo tablet. Heed my advice and be careful, good luck to you both.

How did u root and install Google play?
This is my first post on XDA and i am in desperate need of help. I own a Asus Zenfone 6. Recently i tried unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP recovery so that i can flash a custom ROM. It went horribly wrong and i bricked my device. I managed to unbrick it and revert to Stock ROM which i also upgraded to LOLIPOP using adb sideload. I also managed to root it and have super user access. The problem is that i cannot install a TWRP or any other recovery. When i try to install a custom recovery i get and error " cannot install unsigned image on secure device" which probably suggests that the boot loader is locked. I ran the commands to unlock the boot loader and they ran successfully but i am not sure if the bootloader is locked or unlocked.
I tried running fastboot oem devices but i get an error " Unknown Oem command".
It was after hours of troubleshooting that i decided that i am OK with stock LOLIPOP rom as long as i have a rooted device. It was after sometime that i noticed that the camera wasn't working. Also the flashlight wasn't working. I uninstalled the updates and flashlight was working. However the camera just gives me a black screen for some time after which it quits with an error message " Camera is used by another application. Please reboot your device and try again". I uninstalled the updates for Camera and reverted to a previous version by also removing the camera application using super user access. However for an older version i get an error " Camera not found". I have also tried installing other camera applications but none seem to work even after making them a part of system. Currently flashlight works but only under an older version , as soon as i update it stops working. I decided to lock the boot loader again as it was just not worth it. However after running the commands and locking the bootloader i still cannot get the camera to work. I tried in safe mode and the camera won't work there either.
When i go to recovery i just have four options, there is no install from internal storage or SD card which suggests i am on stock recovery.
Currently i just want my camera to work. I am OK with the stock ROM and recovery as long as i have a rooted device. I have spent hours researching and nothing seems to work. I am in desperate need of help. Some of the friends suggested to try my luck here. I would be indebted as i dont want to purchase another device just because i screwed my camera. Also when i was under kitkat i ran the SIMI test and was getting an error 1667 and 1668 for both cameras. The test is failing under LOLIPOP as well. I dont think its a hardware issue or maybe i am wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Not even a single reply. DISAPPOINTED!
You need to Lock Bootloader then reflash the rom (wipe all) to fix it. Custom ROMs sometimes cause camera not working cuz there are some devices that have different camera.... Next time, just make sure you Lock Bootloader => Flash Stock recovery => Wipe => Flash Stock ROM

But yeah that sounds like a roller coaster.
Just picked up the Zenfone 6 to see what I could do with it, I'm going to try to flash the RR rom on here.
Just something I noticed though, I did some research myself, and a couple of sites like this one (https://zenfones.gajetzki.com/) say that you should root your original stock before doing anything. Now this wasn't a requirement at all in my experience for all other phones so I'm a bit skeptical. Anyway I thought that may help in some way.
Good luck!

Sorry for the late reply, but I'll try to help as much as I can. First things first, I know there are two different models of the Zenfone 6, the A600CG and the A601CG, but apparently this shouldn't make a difference, but it could have in this case, after all they must have different names for a reason. Also, the support for the Zenfone 6 is pretty terrible in terms of custom roms and the such, so you may even be better off with the stock experience, just root it and you'll have all the functionality you could ever dream of.
If you're still keen for the custom roms and stuff maybe check out this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-5/general/recovery-twrp-2-8-6-0-asus-zenfone-5-t3136263
Other than that, I guess Google is your friend, but so are we!
I haven't been able to hold onto my Zenfone 6, as it was a friends, so I no longer have it and never got the opportunity to have some fun with it, so I'm just going off my own experience with my HTC One M9, which is probably vastly different, but I suppose the process isn't too different. Nonetheless, I hope all goes well!
Hello folks, My friend has a Moto G5 plus and she is also Visually Impaired. There are some issues, with talkback she is having that I am thinking may be 7.0 related, Also there are changes in 8.0 that she really is quite excited about. I am wondering if going to a custom ROM that is an up to date version and will probably hit Oreo before Moto ever gets to it wouldn't help her out, Also some of the custom roms seem to have some feature themselves that might be handy. So I have been researching how to go about this.
Basically what I THINK I want is pretty close to stock and most recent and least buggy version of android., But I know she watches Netflix and other things, so Since I have to root on the G5 to load any rom I believe the only way to do it and maintain things like netflix is with Magisk, Is this correct? So I am looking at Lineage OS or RR, leaning toward Lineage.
There is overwhelming amount of info on this so I want to do this correct, So here is a rough of what I understand the process to be.
First step is to unlock the boot loader
then load latest TWRP 3.1.1.1 custom recovery or is SuperSu better, this one of the parts got me little confused.
Once that is done, this I need to create a Nandroid backup and go ahead an wipe/reset the phone.
From here I use the TWRP recovery to install nstall no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip"(FLASH IT) and Magisk, and flash "no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip", correct?
Then Flash Magisk again and allow it to update, is that about right?
Then flash the Rom?
Last but not least flash the GAPPS, of which there seem to be a few to chose from. Still unsure the differences, Thinking just Open GAPPS.
So can anyone tell me does that sound about right? Is there a stupid NewB guide somewhere? Can anyone give me heads up or some of the pitfalls I may have missed or such?
Any help would be awesome.
Most of what I'm reading looks correct. It's been a few months since I rooted mine and I can't remember the exact process but I do remember some of my problems and questions. Make sure you have all files downloaded and copied to your phone. If possible have a backup on a micro SD in case you accidently erased the internal storage. Unlock bootloader, install twrp ( magisk is the way to go for root but several roms don't come prerooted so u can still use wallet, Netflix, etc). I personally didn't install no verity. Install the rom you want and your sound as a pound.

Thank you. I actually flash Lineage using a youtube video I found that seemed to cover what I needed to know. Things seem to be working well, many of the bugs I seemed to deal with in stock 7.0 rom, one I thought to actually be hardware thing, seem to have vanished and maybe it's just in my mind, but seems to be much more snappy. I haven't tried any apps that I know have issues w/ root and unlocked bootloaders, but sofar so good with most the apps I have tried, in fact some seem to work better.
I just want to say thank you to developers of these roms and all the tools, We really appreciate you.
Hey guys,
I need help.
The story:
My girlfriend has a Galaxy S7 from Sprint, she loves her phone but hates the carrier's splash screen (I think that's what it's called). The animation at the startup of the phone.
She truly hates it.
I want to do something nice for her and remove that from her phone. I think it's possible, I know I can do it, I just need help with the steps.
Laugh and call me names if you want, I'm a iOS user, it works for me, I've always preferred it. My knowledge about Android is limited.
I'm not a complete rook, I've rooted an Android tablet before, I've reloaded a ROM after deleting a few things and bricking said tablet but that's as far as my handheld device tinkering experience goes.
PCs are my cup of tea, I know my way around them, I'm not a developer or anything, I just like messing around and fixing them.
Anyway, all I want are the right directions so I don't ruin her phone.
Do I have to root the device?
If so, what do I use to root said device?
Do I need to install a new ROM to get rid of the splash screen?
Where do I download a stock version (I'm assuming that's what I'd have to install) of her firmware?
If I need to root the device, after installing the stock OS, if I un-root it, will changes be lost?
I apologize if I'm not using the correct terminology, I'm just trying to get my point across as clear as possible.
If this was a PC, what I would do is a clean installation using a stock ISO, making my problem and all the OEM's bloatware disappear.
I'm looking for the equivalent of that, but for her phone.
If there is a better way, or what I'm asking is for some reason not possible please let me know.
Her phone:
Samsung Galaxy S7 930P
Nougat 7.0
P.S.: The reason I want to un-root it afterwards, is that from what I understand you can't use NFC payments if your device is rooted and she really likes doing that.
You can remove it/ change it in two ways.
1. Root it, and change the boot animation, and then unroot. I would not recommend this, as rooting this device is hard if you're unfamiliar with Android devices, plus you need to flash an engineering boot.img, which completely cripples this devices battery and performance.
2. Use the universal firmware for the Sprint device. It will change the boot animation to a screen which just says "Samsung" in white font against a black background till it boots. It looks clean and is un-intrusive, and will get rid of all the Sprint bloatware. I highly recommend using that over trying to root and change the boot animation on her device. It is quite simple to do as well, as all you need to do is download the firmware, (find it here: http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=48A2011F925C11E7963AFA163EE8F90B ) and unzip it, and flash it using ODIN (find it here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByoIewGd_qk2MEZMb0l3Qlo4ek0 ) . Good luck!
i have a op6t bootloader unlocked still on tmobile 10.3.3 oos. i want to flash the nethunter/andrax kernel on it so i can check em both out. i am wondering if i should bother trying to flash the international rom on it, or what might be the best rom to use as a base for a pentesting platform.
it is my first oneplus device, but i messed around with nethunter on the galaxy series and kali on maemo before it. ive just gotten the unlock token and flashed it, i tried to msm it to the international rom prior, but kept getting a 'packed image not found' type error. i guess it doesnt matter now, i can just use twrp. but any advice, or direction on what i should flash or install in what order would be Greatly appreciated, im just trying to read up on all of it as much as i can right now.

Reading is good! You'll really need that as you're about to venture on a potential world of pain. I have the international version so it's been smooth sailing for me but I've read a lot about these TMO devices and either it'll work for you if you follow the right guides or it'll go south really fast. And when it does, there's an endless road back to square one. It can be an excellent learning experience and there will usually be a way out but it will require a lot of patience. If you don't have that, you might as well stay with stock. You know yourself best [emoji6]

super good to know, as it sounds like if i can get the msm flash to work, it will be just like an international one. or maybe i can twrp flash it to a newish international oos that will work well with nethunter. But i guess my first order of business should be twrp flash and pull a full backup just in case. i am indeed looking for an odyssey, ive been bricking arm devices since the nokia n800 days so im sure i can figure things out.
im thinking:
twrp
magisk
backup
flash newest internation oos (msm or twrp?)
flash nethunter/andrax kernel
install non chroot nethunter
install andrax
...
profit?
i dunno why but im unreasonably excited to get a pentesting phone running with a kernel that supports native monitor mode and packet injection
I got it all to work, with plenty of haphazard dirty flashing, and only like 3 softbricks where I had to go back to 9x with msm. So I'm on 10.3.7 with twrp, magisk, seems like I disabled encryption, cause I ran into that issue before, and I have no lockscreen code now. I doubt I could reproduce it all, but the nethunter/andrax kernel seemed to have stuck, after I got nethunter chroot installed, I verified monitor mode worked. Got andrax all installed too, everything seems to be functioning properly. Sooo many tools to play with now. It's weird, every time I did things properly, I'd end up bricking it, then I would try some convoluted dirty flash and it would work out just how I wanted it.

Hey im going through some things with the install so i flashed a international rom after the last fix i did with a .bat file from another post which its running fine so far. so could you explain some details with how you went about it at least the decryption part this has me lost as in...
1= TWRP format data
2=flash all the things i need to flash
3= flash DM verity disable force encryption last
all within the twrp.img first boot? or is it all done after twrp is installed
first of all im fresh to all flashing roms and i have been reading like crazy haha just trying to clearify the missing info or lack of maybe.

Dude could you please help me I can't get nethunter running for the life of me, so it sounds you flashed the kernel then flashed nethunter oos10 for the op6 using twrp but it worked for the op6t? I'm pretty new to phones had nethunter on a oneplus one but that was a cakewalk, I got a T-Mobile op6t running international
Hate to bump an old post but did anyone manage to figure out the flash order on this?
And if so care ta share I'll be forever in your debt
