Hoping someone can help solve this issue, plus would be interested to know if anyone else has experienced similar.
I have a USB DAC (ZooperDAC) that I used to use with all my phone without issue. Somewhere along the line the essential phone has stopped functioning correctly (it detects the device and out puts audio sounds like an issue with sample rate).
I use the DAC via an OTG dongle and have tested with different dongles without any change.
If I use the DAC with my nexus 6p it works perfectly
If I use the DAC with my computer it works perfectly
Other usb devices work fine with the essential phone via my OTG dongles.
I feel sure its not a hardware issue but any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi all,
Has anyone hooked up a USB mic to the USB port of a Note via a USB OTG cable?
I would be really interested in using a decent USB mic with Audio Evolution that just got released last week.
I'm not sure if you'd need drivers for it, or it would just register as a mic in the same way a mouse or keyboard works OK.
I tried googling but couldn't find anything, except a video in which someone hooked up a USB mic preamp, but once you start doing that you lose some of the portability of just having the Note plus a USB mic.
I've seen the iRigMicCast, but I think a USB mic might have the potential for better audio quality, and also more options if any USB mic worked.
thanks,
Rich
mouse, keyboard, pen drives and a few portable disks on fat32. that's it i guess.
Yes, you can. You need to compile kernel with your usb mic drivers and flash it to your device.
I tried to connect a couple of usb audio devices to the note (otg cable) - No luck...
Hopefully ICS will fix this.

I recently got a new portable dac/headphone amplifier (Sony PHA-3) and can't seem to get it to work with my OPT. I run the OEM usb-c to usb-a cable to the input of the PHA-3 but sound keeps coming through the speaker at the bottom of the phone.
Developer option to disable usb audio routing is OFF, and even if I try to toggle the usb configuration to "audio source" I still don't get any sound (though sound stops playing through the speaker).
Using resurrection remix v6.0.1_r52-MOB30R.
So far I have been unable to locate any sort of usb otg settings to enable if that makes any difference...
Also, when using the app USB Audio Player Pro I get an initialization failure, so maybe it's something the ROM just doesn't support?

More likely the kernel that must support or at least have drivers for the DAC device built-in, in normal Linux you would type dmesg to see what gets detected and make sure the proper module gets inserted for device support, but this is Android so no such thing. Maybe you could check with Boeffla to see if he knows how to include this?
Same issue here. Looks like OP2 don't support external USB DAC.
Is OB18 or OB19 working with headphones using a 3.5" audio adapter to the USB port?
Has anyone gotten OB18 or OB19 working with headphones using a 3.5 audio adapter to the USB port? (So a USB3.1C -> 3.5 Audio jack adapter, which I have) ?
On OB18, I can see the settings that are supposed to make it work, but it doesn't yet recognize the adapter. Even if you're on pie on an OB6, have you gotten that working there? If I have to get a 6T for some reason, I'm just curious to know if the thing will work without bluetooth phones since it'll have no headphone jack, which I don't really like.
Many thanks.
Have you turned on OTG?

Yes, and enabled AUDIO Over OTG in developer options. And have two types adapters. It's not unusual. I've never seen more than one or two out of hundred's that've gotten this working. I hear it works somewhat in Android 9.
Found an OK alternative since my bluetooth works well:https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075JBLGLB/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Bluetooth audio female in 3.5 and long charging battery: Works as well as my wired port.
Hey just acquired an essential phone but it didn't come with the audio jack anyone know an alert antivenin that works I tried two active adapters from eBay but they both don't work.. Any suggestions TIA
Check this thread:

There are quite a few suggestions there for adapters that are confirmed working with PH-1.
It has to be an adapter with a built in DAC. (the more expensive kind)
there are other phones that basically use just a converter cable and output analog audio through the USB C port, since those are just changing USB C to a headphone jack they are pretty common and cheap.
The essential phone outputs digitally to a USB digital audio converter chipset built into the converter rather than just straight analog audio.
So just make sure the adaptor you are looking at says it has a built in DAC and it should work.
sometimes they dont list it though so if you are going for a cheap one then you may have to rely on someone in the reviews having an essential phone.
most razer phone and google pixel adaptors work but I'd still verify they have a DAC, sometimes amazon listings will just list a whole slew of compatible phones.
hi, i just got some akg usb-c earphones but they don't work, they're not even detected. i've tried everything and all i can think of are lacking drivers or something idk. i was wondering if you guys have the same issues with custom roms if that solves it etc etc
thankyouuu
You need a dongle with a compatible DAC built into it.
