Is Wireless Android Auto Working with Pie? - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Does anybody know if Wireless Android Auto is working with Essential running Pie? I've tried looking through other searches and can't find a good answer. There were a few Reddit threads about it not working with the Dev Previews, but no one answered with the full release.
Reason is, I'm thinking of getting and Essential phone for a year because the Pixel 3 did not impress me. And my Nexus 5X can't really handle wireless AA as it crashes constantly when using directions AND music. If I use one or the other it's just fine though.

Well, I got an official response from Essential, and they said Wireless Android Auto is still not supported in Android Pie. Look like Google is holding this feature hostage, and only allowing it on the Pixel/Nexus line.

What are you currently using as a head unit that supports wireless AA?

MirrorLink on US SGS3

During the official Samsung announcement for the SGS3 on May 3, they talked about integrating MirrorLink support into the phone. This is actually why I purchased this phone. I recently purchased a MirrorLink compatible car stereo, the Sony XAV-601BT. After several frustrating hours, a Samsung rep told me that only the Korean version supports MirrorLink. He suggested downloading an app from the Play Store called "Sh.air" by a company called M&SERVICE. It's the only thing that he knows about that would make the SGS3 compatible with MirrorLink at this time.
The problem is that the entire thing is in Korean (I think...I can't read it). It doesn't do me any good to have a Korean interface on my car dashboard. However, this means that the MirrorLink standard is software based and (probably) only requires the MHL connection in a cell phone.
Does anyone know if there are any MirrorLink compatibility apps in development? I would really like to get this working in my car. Any help or information is appreciated.
I'm using MHL with a Pioneer AppRadio 2. It's an option for you if Samsung doesn't implement MirrorLink for you.
How do you like your AppRadio 2? I was actually looking at that radio some time ago because I've generally had good luck with Pioneer. I couldn't find a lot of reviews about using it with Android, but what I found made it look like it's not very Android friendly. I've also read that it has a delay in the user interface. Can you give me some feedback about that stuff?
I'm mostly just interested in syncing my phone for navigation, phone calls, and Pandora. How does it work for that stuff with Android? Have you used Inrix Traffic with it?
I like the Sony XAV601BT because it's a solid head unit with MirrorLink capabilities. The AppRadio seems to try to be a phone interface first and head unit second.
Well, some things about the AppRadio 2.
It's definitely a phone interface first, car audio system second. Without the phone plugged in and operating it's a basic AM/FM receiver.
Android support isn't as good as iPhone support. There's less apps available and generally speaking it seems like Pioneer added the Android support as an afterthought.
Every time you connect your phone, the phone will prompt you to accept the PIN number that the radio sends it. Every time. It's highly annoying, but someone on avic411 has a tasker script that apparently has the phone auto-accept the prompt. I haven't tried it yet as my phone isn't rooted (I'm swapping it later today for the Pebble Blue that a buddy got and he doesn't want it rooted).
Inrix doesn't work on Android over the AppRadio. They haven't added support yet and Pioneer has a lockout so that you can only use apps that have been approved.
Google Navigation is another app that doesn't work, although Google Maps does. If you want full voice navigation the only app that they have available is Waze at the moment. Waze isn't bad, but I dislike the cartoonish appearance of it.
AppRadio supports Pandora Radio. If you have it, it can natively control it through the deck. Pandora's not available in Canada, so I haven't tried it.
AppRadio also has an ipod interface on the main screen. You can't get rid of it either, which is highly annoying if you're like me and don't have an iphone/ipod.
There is a very small lag in response when you use the touch screen. I believe this is because it uses Bluetooth to communicate with the phone. It's there, but not really that annoying unless you're trying to scroll using CarMediaPlayer. That said, CarMediaPlayer is a half decent app for playing media on the AppRadio. I find it's a lot faster and doesn't lag like the stock Music app on the phone.
Edit: I implied above that you need Pioneer approved apps for it to work. You can use other apps, but they won't have the ability to control them through the deck.
For my use, it sounds like the Sony unit is the better way to go. Hopefully MirrorLink gets some support, either third party or otherwise.
Thanks for the honest feedback about the AppRadio 2.
spumington,
Samsung will release its MirrorLink app in the next weeks.
The solution is software only, but just an APK. You need to modify your system in order to make it work.
And it's not related to MHL, just USB.

Where did you get this information? I also purchased the Galaxy S3 partly because it was the only Android phone announced to support Mirrorlink.

We need an app for our Android in dash systems!

Ok, so I have a Ouku 6.2 (although maybe 7") non GPS model. Recently the screen has stopped displaying anything. I have had this unit for close to 2 years and by memory am able to navigate basic functions. Although, I can still connected my samsung s5 via bt and have thought thought if we had a app for more remote functions, that would be lovely. I am not educated in building apps, but I do believe this would be a financially successful endeavor for the right person or company.

Any rom with Mirrorlink?

As I could get a new car in the coming weeks/months I am starting to check every details.
The 6t doesn't have mirrorlink out of the box but can we have it thanks to root? A rom with this function?
Meanwhile I downloaded and installed from apkmirror the htc mirrorlink apk successfully, though no idea if it will work in real
Btw mirrorlink needs a specific hardware or it's just software?
I use android auto, but my car also supports mirrorlink. I haven't found anyway to get it working on this OP6T.
Looking for same solution here.

It looks like Omnirom has it, please try this rom and tell us if it works
Yesterday I tried android auto on my future car, I also added aa phenotype and aa mirror to mimick mirrorlink and it worked!!
Just like miracast works with TVs, everything on my 6t screen is mirrored on the c3 aircross screen and they can be touch controlled from there
I don't know if the 6t screen has to be On all the time or not though
You have links and steps to reproduce your success? Actually, I was able to install AA Mirror and AA Phenom and got AA Mirror to show up in the Android main menu and it works.
But, there are still audio/notification issues while connected via USB. Hoping to resolve this by bypassing this crappy Android Auto. Bought a car and looked specifically for this feature, only to have Google who apparently can't make notifcations work while connected via USB cable the past 5 months. Unreal.
Hence, why I'm trying to find a Mirror Link that runs on Android on the OnePlus 6T, custom Rom whatever...to try and get it working. Thx

Couldn't get it to boot...well, it did boot. But, not wifi, no VZW, kept flashing apps closure on the main screen. Soo....gave up on that idea.
I have tried the latest version of Omnirom and there is no mirrorlink link support so have gone back to stock. I wouldn't even mind going back to an older ROM just to get mirrorlink

Tried it too in the last weekend, no mirrorlink.
I am gonna switch to an S10 soon, at least it will have both AA and mirrorlink.
Dunno why we can't do voice calls with whatsapp or listen to a voice message under AA
I don't know how true, however T-Mobile support states that "Mirror screen on car display" works:
https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-38933
I think the T-Mobile site is misleading in that the phone won't mirror anything that isn't in android auto and the bit about Chromecast is about displays not car head units.
That being said aa mirror and aa phenotype changer works with android auto 4.7 and lower as well as android Q. AA browser didn't work in 10/4.7 but web view auto did. Car stream 2.04 works in 10 and 4.7 as well. These look better if you can get the new ui. Working.

How did you make it work? What is aa phenotype and aa mirror? Android auto does work on the C3, why bother using MirrorLink? I try to get it to work on a Peugeot 208 because it has no Android Auto for a weird reason...

Can't get Android Auto to work using EONON GA9449 radio and the A0585 dongle

I installed the Eonon GA9449 radio and connected the A0585 dongle for Android Auto. After downloading the APK file on the Eonon radio, I turned on USB Debugging in the OnePlus 6t Android phone settings. I used the original OnePlus usb cable to connect to the dongle and could NOT get Android Auto to work. I then tried a different data cable and Android Auto would still not work.
WHAT ELSE IS NEEDED TO MAKE ANDROID AUTO WORK?
Is there another application or APK I need to download? (By the way, I never saw Android Auto as an icon or application on the Eonon radio.) Also, what is the "Auto Kit" application mentioned in the following video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHoAZFoSPhwIt because it was not mentioned in the instructions. The instructions mentioned the download of an APK file and provided a link which we successfully did.
I just installed a EONON head unit and I'm facing the same issue. I've reached out to the support team but no response as its a weekend. Were you able to fix the issue you had?
Anyone get it figured out?
Its been since summer 2020 that AA was working fine so I cant remember installing "autoplay" but you can find it here Autoplay . Im going to try installing Autoplay to see if it works.
Heres my thread to try and revive this topic to hopefully figure this out. This has made me realize how laggy the headunit it. AA has been so awesome its all Ive used.
Also I have reached support and waiting response.

Not yet, but I saw the thread that you created and the response that EONON sent you. Also, apart from this issue, for some reason my head unit also keeps randomly restarting while I'm driving, which is pretty scary when the navigation cuts off suddenly.
EONON did reach out and they are working on a solution. But I was able to make mine work by disabling the Chrome app entirely. I didn't use Chrome anyway so doesn't hurt me.
I so have a question about Eplay though. My android auto google maps never goes into dark mode which usually should happen at sunset or be controlled by the headlamp. I have the day/night set to auto in my Eplay app settings.
There is and app called Auto Kit I downloaded directly from the radio web browser and installed it.

I hope this helps!

Android Auto disconnects randomly

Hi all,
A couple months ago I treated myself with a pony car from Ford, that runs a Ford Sync 3 multimedia system. It supports Android Auto as well as Carplay, by cable only.
When I brought the car from Germany (2nd found there) I was still running my old 5T as a temporary phone because my 8 Pro was being serviced (long story, useless here). AA worked flawlessly with it.
Since I got my 8 Pro back (initially running OOS11), it has NEVER worked correctly with Android Auto: whatever the cable, whatever the OS, AA will eventually disconnect. The phone keeps showing a "android auto is enabled" notification, but the media system does not see it anymore. Basically, all ongoing app stop working on the screen, the media system reverts to a non-AA state.
I have tried with the OEM cable and third-party ones. On the front USB plug of the one in the armrest. Resetting the phone, resetting the car. Eventually, it fails again. All Pointe towards some stability of the USB connection: it works for longer with the OEM cable. As read in other threads and googling, I've tried by setting the default USB mode to various things (in dev options), enabling/disabling OTG... To no avail.
This is very frustrating because although I could buy a wireless AA dongle, I like things to "work as intended". Android Auto seems to be a very painful experience, overall (that's what a quick Google search tends to say). Is there any way to actually troubleshoot things? AA has a developer mode, is there any chance to grab a proper debug log for when it crashes? Sadly enough, Carplay works fine. I'm stuck with my wife's Spotify Playlist...!
Same happened with OOS11, OOS12 (C.20 atm but also occurred with the one just below). Oh yeah, I'm magisk rooted, just FYI.
Thanks and cheers!
/e : apologies for posting to the the wrong section and thanks to the mod who moved the thread
Little bump. Has anyone faced issues with Android Auto, and found a way to at least troubleshoot it?
Problems with android auto afaik are mostly car related. Using it for a long time with less problems, oos 11 and 12, hyundai i20 (wireless android auto). Maybe you should ask Ford for that, maybe they have updates for car audio firmware. Seems some car audio system didnt have a proper integration of android auto...
Bump here.
I have digged the question of firmware updates for the APIM. Turns out there are none (even checked myself with FORScan). Got the opportunity to try with another OP8 (not a Pro). Exact same behavior. These same two phones (my OP8Pro and the other OP8) do work perfectly fine in another car (Hyundai) though.
Android Auto has always been questionable in terms of reliability but this is completely unusable now. Is there any chance to troubleshoot the connection in developper mode ?
