Hello,
I have an i337 that is PIN locked and unfortunately the owner has passed away. The family of the owner has asked me if I am able to retrieve the pictures off of the device for them, but they do not know the PIN. Sadly, there is not an SD card, nor a Google account (I can enter the password incorrectly indefinitely without being prompted), and I am unable to get any information by attaching it to my PC. As far as I am able to tell the phone is stock and not rooted. Booting into recovery shows me KOT49H.I337UCUFNC1. If there is any more information I can provide, I am unsure where to find it. I've done a few searches but haven't found anything that works for me. One of my thoughts was trying to find a rom to flash with Odin that doesn't wipe the internal SD card, but I can't seem to find one for this device, if such a thing even exists. If anyone has any experience bypassing a PIN without losing data or has any suggestions that would be of help in this particular situation I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks,
Kylor R
edit: realizing I should have posted this in the Q&A/Help section, my apologies.
Just connect it to a PC using a usb cable and you will see the storage on the pc

Unfortunately, just connecting it to my PC shows the phone, but no files are visible.
But a factory reset don't erase storage file just apk and config. I have done factory reset before and never lost any file. And the factory reset will take away the pin lock

Any time I have done a factory reset, I believe it has erased the pictures stored on the internal memory. Not a chance I can take unless this is 100% confirmed.

Fellow XDA buddies...please help me on this one!
My colleague is locked out of his Galaxy S4 running Lollipop that has a pin / password lock that he inadvertently set and doesn't know what it was set to
We've Tried:
- Android Device Manager: After getting on the phone with a Samsung Mobile Tech and having them conference in a Google Tech... getting out of a pin lock screen is no longer compatible with ADM on Lollipop as it doesn't display the password input without first unlocking the phone via pin ...
- Samsung Find My Mobile: He never setup the Samsung Account/App on his phone before the forgotten pin issue ...
- Lollipop doesn't seem to have any vulnerabilities / workarounds to get past the lock screen when pin locked ...
- I have tried to use the Stock Recovery to apply the files suggested here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2308130 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4/general/bypass-t3035553 and cann't get past the Signature Verification ...
- USB Debugging was never enabled so the adb exploits I found that involve SQLite or removing the key file do not work ...
- I have exhausted all the methods here because it doesn't have have root access or a custom recovery installed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2620456
So without USB Debugging, Root or a Custom Recover (which requires root it seems), we are stuck!
I think the best bet would be to enable USB Debugging somehow while locked or from an upload we can make through the Stock Recovery or ODIN...
We would greatly appreciate if anyone can help!
Thank you,
-Chris
Usually the only option is a reset from recovery. Which will erase all user data. Pics, files... Etc.
That's the point of the pin lock... To protect your privacy mostly.
I have not heard of any other way to bypass the pin lock. Well, flashing firmware again works on most devices, but same result. All user data gone.
Flashing a new ROM through Odin I don't believe will work. If I recall correctly Odin doesn't wipe data when installing. Therefore, the only real option is a factory reset if you don't wish to root or install a custom recovery.
The only thing that you can save is files stored on the internal storage.
Apps, sms, contacts etc are gone. That is if you didn't make any backups.
If you want to save the files on your internal storage:
- Flash custom recovery (twrp)
- Wipe /system partition.
- Reflash a rom.
Hey all!
I was wondering out of curiosity will backup from stock phone work with smartswitch if encryption is turned on?
Also Im I understanding it correct that there is no possibility to decrypt the phone again in settings? (seem weird and hence I ask, read: http://www.androidexplained.com/galaxy-s6-enable-encryption/)
Just to clarify: I have not yet encrypted my device, Im just asking beforehand if it is something I want to do or not.
to answer my own question (as I tried it) you CAN decrypt after its encrypted and backups works as normal, its just require an extra pass on boot
Can I recover data from my own encrypted s5 Verizon phone (not rooted) w/password?
My s5 Verizon phone could not boot well recently so today I intended to clear system cache. I hold power + volume up+home buttons, maybe somehow it entered into download mode, so it warned me that install a custom os is risky and asked me to volume up to continue, or down to cancel(restart). I volumed down and now it rebooted, but all of sudden, my data is gone! It did not ask me for screen pin/password either as previously my phone was encrypted. (Or did I held power+volumn down to factory reset the phone? But I did not get a warning for that.
This factory reset was a surprise to me as I was not warned or told that they will wipe out the data.
Anyhow, my data is gone. Now I wanted to get it back.
Can I recover data from my own encrypted s5 Verizon phone (not rooted) w/password?
I know It's not difficult if it was not encrypted, as many third party tools can recover most of the data if the phone was not used much after reset.
I am wondering if anyone has any experience recovering data for an *encrypted* phone (with right encryption password though). Which tool can do that by prompting you the password for the encrypted data?
Here is the link regarding recovering data from factory reset: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2143188 However, I did not find a solution: what if the phone was encrypted and you do have the correct encryption password (if not I know it's almost impossible)?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Any thoughts, suggestions?
My phone was encrypted but not rooted. I have the encryption password. Any chance to get the data back from the phone?
I powered down my phone now and will see how to proceed after I get experts opinion on this...
My question basically is, can I recover data from an encrypted phone after factory reset if I have the encryption password? Anyone can help?
Thank you guys in advance.
Anyone?
I understand this is difficult, but I wanted to try before I give up.
I need experts here to shed some lights: is it still possible to recover the data from my encrypted phone after accidental factory reset, as I still have the screen PIN?
I know how to recover the data if the phone was not encrypted/not factory reset. I also somehow know how to decrypt the data inside the encrypted phone, but no way so far do I know if we can recover the deleted data from the encrypted phone if the files were deleted or the phone was factory reset, provided I still have the screen lock pin.
What I have done so far:
I rooted my sm-n900v
I also created a raw image in my pc using dd command
Next questions are,
where can I find the crypt footer (which partition), and how can I decrypt the deleted data after the factory reset?
Can I recover the deleted data from the encrypted phone first, but it looks like no tools can do that. All data recover tools like Recuva can only recover unencrrypted data.
Or should I first find the cryptor footer, figure out encryption key, but where should I find the deleted files first to decrypt from the encrypted phone?
I just came to realize what I was got into... This is the most difficult scenario to decrpt the deleted files from an encrypted phone. I do want to recover some very important files from the phone's internal/encrypted storage, regardless how stupid I look not backing up those very important data.
But if experts here say I am doing almost impossible thing... I will stop.
Thank you all for your attention.

BTW, my s5 ran Android 4.4 before, later upgraded to Android 5.0, a while ago before I recently accidentally factory reset. I just rooted it days ago after accidental factory reset.
...... If the above info will make a difference in solving my issues below.
Thank you.

From what I have read, the device encryption key is tied to the device Serial Number or Burned-In-ROM-Key. Meaning when you encrypt your device data, it encrypts the password in much the same way the device encrypts its "Verity Hash".
So from what I've gathered it is possible to do a factory data reset, encrypt your empty device using the same password as before, decrypt the empty device, and during that encryption/decryption phase:
Pull out the common denominator between the encrypted data you want to recover and the encrypted empty device, thus enabling you to derive the decryption key used for the data you'd like to recover.
i forgot the pattern of my xiaomi and now im stuck in ''to launch android write the pattern''
is there a way to avoid losing my data? android device manager isnt detecting the phone
most likely not. As far as I know AndroidOne devices are encrypted by default and without the pattern you can not decrypt the data.
I 'm facing the same issue. Could you tell me how did you get over it? Please somebody reply fast.

You need to unlock your bootloader and boot in twrp
Remove pattern lock by boot in TWRP and remove all security and patterns with the TWRP file manager.

This is correct. If it shows "To start Android..." on boot, your phone is encrypted with full disk encryption, and the only way to decrypt is to enter the correct pattern.
There is however a scenario which had occurred when I re-encrypted the phone by changing the password (which I believe didn't work as Magisk was installed, or possibly another reason), where even if the correct password was entered, Android would not accept it. In this case, try entering the password or pattern in TWRP. If it works, backup the data partition, as well as /sdcard separately, then erase it to remove the password and then restore the backup.
