NetHunter / Kali Linux on Pixel / sailfish Working - Google Pixel Guides, News, & Discussion

In case anyone was wondering about this....
Took me a while but I finally got it set-up properly. Unfortunately my knowledge of Kali and network penetration tools is very limited so I don't really know what to do with it yet, but is cool to have up and running nonetheless.
I'm on the [ROM][OFFICIAL][8.1.0]FireHound-v4.8.1 For Google Pixel[Sailfish] Oreo Rom.
Installed NetHunter via Magisk.
Had to manually download
Code:
kalifs-armhf-full.tar.xz
instead of installing it from the app to get it to work.
Had to manually edit the sources.list file to download the metapackages.
All seems to work perfectly fine from what I can see -- besides the lack of monitor mode with the built in wireless card.
Should be able to use an external adapter to enable monitor mode (there is a Magisk module for this as well)-- but I have not tested this.
Here's a video:
link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qttN8Lxfo8
The built-in NetHunter VNC app I did not like at all (I could not even figure out how to move my cursor around the screen, and at its default resolution settings just displayed a blank screen), so I used VNC Viewer which worked great.
If anyone has any questions as to how to set it up feel free to ask. I'm not sure how much interest there is with this (couldn't find a single mention of someone getting it working on the device, only a couple of unanswered questions regarding it).
Still cool. Probably moreso if I ever figure out how to use it

Can't seem to actually SSH into it. Terminal not found... and the NH terminal app just launches into a root shell, even after running bootkali

WIth a lot of original pixels being retired, could some people comment on their results when flashing nethunter with later builds? I used to use nethunter on my nexus, and remember the OS version really mattered when flashing nethunter ontop of it. I do not know if that is still the case with the pixel, as it has been 2+ years since I have tired last on the old phone (which is sitting in a box right now).

I have a few questions. Ok so you say you installed Nethunter through Magisk, after what did you do? Did you install Chroot through that tar file? I tried to install nethunter with instructions on the *any Android device* thread and now it says Chroot already installed. Every time i try to uninstall it will restart but never uninstall Chroot. I have nethunter and everything but Duckhunter is not working. I'm going to reset my phone and try. You say everything seems to be working is Duckhunter working? That's literally all I care about. Can you actually run a script? If anyone has any suggestions, or know any alternative duckyhunter apps let me know. Btw I'm on a Pixel xl idk how much that factors in getting this up and running.

Got it on my Google Pixel 2XL
Hi all I am using the Google Pixel 2XL and it is rooted running the Stock ROM. I tried for a while to get Kali Nethunter on my device with no luck until I found this video (which is old, 2017) and made a little change. I downloaded the latest version of kaliNethunter.apk (which I have attached) and placed it in the folder: Nethunter/data/app.
So, once you follow the instructions in the video, right at 2:40 into the video you'll receive instructions to start installing apk files. The first will be the KaliNethunter apk. Instead of installing THE VERSION THAT CAME WITH THE ZIP FILE you need to replace it with the apk I provided here which is the latest version 2019.1. This will most likely save you a major headache as I wasn't able to get terminal to load kali Shell at all until I switched this out.
Hope I've helped!

I tried for months getting Nethunter to work on an A/B device! Congrats

Did you manage to get an external Wi-Fi adaptor working?

Nethunter Full Ported With External Wifi
I have successfully Ported the Nethunter with Pixel XL after so much hardworking.
Magisk actually never worked with external WiFi, it writes external wifi drivers at /etc/firmware . It will be never used or detected by Android System of Pixel XL. So the drivers must have to be in /sys/module and the External Wifi Detection must should be enabled at Kernel.
But one think I still haven't figured out why I have to install BusyBox in /sbin , /xbin, system/bin all of those directory to get it detected by Nethunter app. Without this modification, I unable to get Nethunter detected the BusyBox and network interfaces in the Nethunter App.
So after all I have Ported it on Google's latest Android public release of Android PIE July Version.
Everything works fine

Installing Linux Variants on Captivate

This week I worked with the developer of Linux Installer to make it work on our phones. We had some difficulties with distance and language. He is in France and I am in USA. we used DroidVNC, ADBWireless and putting my phone into the DMZ of my router to effectively turn my development phone into a virtual platform which he was able to use from around the world. We worked aproximately 16 hours this week on it and we both learned a lot.
Just letting you know, Linux Installer is now compatible with the captivate and runs in a chroot environment. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.galoula.LinuxInstall&feature=search_result This will install debian squeeze on your phone and give you the ability to apt-get install files from the Debian repositories.
The goal of linux installer is actually to boot your phone into linux, not install it side-by-side, however we were able to make it work in this way. Linux Installer now works side-by-side with the Captivate. To exit, the "linuxboot" command line app, just type "exit" and LinuxInstaller will shut down.
Ignore the pop-up about ext2. There is a kernel module which supports ext2 in Linux Installer.

Remember this was made by a geek. It's not really user friendly. go through each step and use the "liberate loop" button at the end
Get your money out of that unlimited data plan
Also, comming soon, Ubuntu on Captivate. http://code.google.com/p/andbuntu/ This is my own project and I've managed to work most of the kinks out of it. You can get the uboot script from the SVN repository on that page. It's still in development. It requires a kernel with EXT4 and loop capabilities. It needs a front-end which I am now working on.
Nice! I've been looking forward to something like this coming to the Captivate!
this is sweet but does it run inside android or does the phone boot into linux? also is it dual boot if that is the case? it sounds like you implied something in the wording but i guess i dont understand what you meant. so im sorry if i am asking questions that you have already answered just trying to understand.
Installed LinuxInstaller and get the following pop-up on opening it:
Sorry but your kernel does not have the necessary features for support Linux.
Please check kernel:
-LOOP features
-EXT2 or EXT3 support

Thoughts?
It runs side-by side
Ignore the pop-up.

The development to dual boot has not been done. It is likely that it never will be done, unless someone wants to make a kernel for our phones to mount the loop, then boot from that.

ok so it is not in a virtual machine but is actually using the same kernel and running at the same time? im guessing that's the jist of it. sounds complicated. but very cool. i envy guys like you! will try it soon.
Please excuse my noobness, however Im always into trying new things but I dont fully understand what this will do with our phones?
Like what will this do differently than what my phone is on MIUI, and what are the benefits.
Again please excuse my noobness.
Ok.
I have been watching this app for a while....
I just had to try this again.
However, when I try it
It creates loop
Then formats loop
States successful format
And then.............................
Nothing.
Is it supposed to install???

You can apt-get any application that runs in Debian, which is over 30,000 applications; Most of which are very useful.
You must go through all of the steps for it to work.
That's right.... Apache on a phone. Your own mobile web server.

There are no other steps....just blank space
This probably isn't the bestest place for this but it could definitely be beneficial:
How about some clarification/explanation on the different settings/options in LinuxInstaller?
Each step must be performed sequentially. Do not unmount loop until the end.

Nope....
Still stuck at 2 after reboot.
Pardon my ignorance but if I am getting this, this wont replace my current OS just boot to linux? For example, I can do this with my current CM7 and then just reboot the phone and be back in CM7 or am I super lost?
Yes, you will boot your phone like normal. Our phones do not even have the camera button required by Linux Installer to dual boot.

Many of you may be familiar with ADB GUI (Or ADB Helper UI). So am I. I always thought it could use something... I don't know... Then, a few days ago, while reading the portal, I read it got an update. So I had a look and downloaded the program. I looked at it, and thought: "Well. It works! But what can I do about it, and how could I make it better? It's missing some tools..."
So then I opened up Visual Studio and coded on. I spent an entire day working out the design and how it should work and what features it should have. I had no internet at the time (Change of ISP) so I then coded and coded and coded until it was bed-time. The next day I started coding and wasn't sure about the design, so I deleted the code, got rid of the project and started anew. And the results aren't too bad!
So today I am proud to present to you, Better ADB GUI!
It's still very early and almost nothing works, but I want to show it off and release the current source code.

Well, as sad as it is, I don't code in VB anymore, and I especially don't use Windoze anymore.
So, any functionality that is found here, will:
a) Be also incorporated into my much older project Universal Android Toolkit - which will be coming very soon
or
b) Will be ported to Java for use with Windoze (Universal Android Toolkit is mutating to a BSD/BSD-like OS-only program, because we've go way to little of these.
But, you can pull the source and try it out for yourself. I can't remember what's working and what isn't, but hey. There should be a working build in thre somewhere, and you should be able to carry on maintaining it.

*with R13 certain builds of google apps will cause a no boot situation if you wipe /data and install the rom and gapps together before booting android. Setup wizard craps out and never gives you a usable system. TO FIX: wipe data and cache, install rom, then boot to android BEFORE flashing gapps. from android reboot to recovery and install gapps and you'll be golden.

A few things I noticed:
- External micro SD detects in storage including size of card, freespace, etc but won't let me do anything beyond that. Titanium Backup won't detect the card at all. I can write files to it on Windows 7 but it won't let me read files from it.
- Same sound issue as on the 4.3 ROMs (up pitch audio). Tested with YouTube.
- Other stuff outside of camera and NFC seem to work just fine from testing.
Clean flash using the latest CWM for the Sero 7 Pro.

Downloading as we speak. I Don't use the camera or nfc much right now anyway so i'll give it a run. I admire all of the work that's been done with this. I wish I had the time to learn all the intricacies and inner workings to be able to contribute.
For some reason when I go to install, I get stuck in a boot loop. I'll mess with it when I get home and see. Trying to do this while at work.

I was only able to test for 5 min this morning but here's what I noticed:
1. HDMI is broken as it was in jellytime, all output is forced portrait.
2. When using the tablet in landscape the text of the icons on the home screen are cut off. Probably an alignment issue.

Wow, this is so much better than the previous build. You deserve a beer.
I don't use NFC or camera that much. So this is almost ready as my daily driver. Could you make fixing the SD card issue your next target?
Thanks.
About to test drive this as my first rom for my brand new s7p. Will report back if I have any issues that haven't been mentioned yet.
ETA: Nvm, can't figure out how to mount the sdcard to throw those zips on it. My buddy I bought this from rooted it for me so it's running CWM 6something already. Can't mount sd from recovery, can't paste files when connected normally as I get some sort of error about the device being disconnected.
going to try this out. what seems to be the problem with camera? is it the modules? or something else? have you tried vermagic and repacking them as a zip?

I'm pretty sure the root is fine. It's windows not recognizing the device properly for some reason.
I am really liking the fact that I can run 4.4 on this tablet. One bug I have run into however is that I can't get .mp3 files to play from memory using Apollo or Google music player. When I try to play a song the system freezes.
I'm not complaining though! Just wanted to report a bug.

Does anyone know how to install Google Play Store?
I can't seem to get google play working either. Opengapps pico requires more space to be able to flash it onto the device and Google Services installer doesn't work. Everything else seems to work perfectly and really smooth too! I might stick to Remix untill we find a way.
EDIT: After flashing the Rezize patch by Khaon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/mod-reclaim-free-space-partition-t3029605), I was able to successfully flash Gapps pico. Everything seems to be working well so far. I installed xposed and supersu completely fine. Also, the system mode switch is a brilliant idea! Great job PhoenixOS devs.
What version of Android is it? How is it, compared to REMIX OS?

EDIT: After flashing the Rezize patch by Khaon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-10/development/mod-reclaim-free-space-partition-t3029605), I was able to successfully flash Gapps pico. Everything seems to be working well so far. I installed xposed and supersu completely fine. Also, the system mode switch is a brilliant idea! Great job PhoenixOS devs.

How did you manage to install it via shame or fastboot?

I flashed the Resize patch and Gapps through TWRP recovery. I didn't flash the Recovery that came with PhoenixOS. (Recovery.img)
You might need to reflash a custom recovery through fastboot if you installed the one that came with PhoenixOS.
My experience of PhoenixOS Vs RemixOS
I don't see much information about PhoenixOS anywhere so I thought I would share my experience of running it on my Nexus 10 for a few days.
How did I install it?
- followed the instructions on the website flashing in "Root Mode": http://www.phoenixos.com/help/installation/help-ARM-en1
- Then flashed TMRP custom recovery in fastboot mode, Nexus 10 version
- And SuperSU to obtain root
- Then flashed the resize patch by Khaon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...ition-t3029605)
- And finally the PICO version of OpenGapps
- Rebooted to the new Phoenis OS and voilà!
I then proceeded to re-install some key apps from the Play Store and started playing with it..
First off, everything works: Wifi, Bluetooth, etc. I don't see a great difference in speed or battery life compared to RemixOS.
The window manager reminds me a lot of KDE (see screenshots attached) while the notification panel, on the right hand side takes it cue from Samsung TouchWiz, i feel - I will let you decide if it is a good thing or not
Overall, the system is robust. I am still going to go back to RemixOS, I think, for one reason. Somehow, the way apps behave in floating windows feel a bit erratic.. Resizing the window does not systematically force the app to reload while other apps seem to reload all the time when not re-sizing.
Also, while it is great that PhoenixOS offers to change the display density (thus resolution), a feature Remix OS doesn't offer, I wonder whether it has an impact on the rendering of apps in window mode and might affect them.
A last point: PhoenixOS provides the ability to change mode to full Android just by clicking an icon: this brings you outside the Desktop mode and into the "normal" Android (5.1) interface. While some people might find this a nice feature, since it is NOT possible to change the default launcher, it feels a little pointless..
So, all in all, for now I think I am going to go back to Remix and I reserve the right to flash PhoenixOS again.
Looking forward to hearing you experience and your views!

Is it still possible to get this working on a Nexus 10? I follow your steps but as soon as Phoenix OS boots I receive error messages of Google Services crashing.
Thanks!

Hey guys.
I spent a little bit of time porting the Kali Net Hunter Project to the Sony Z5C.
Despite not being fully functional yet I decided to upload it anyway mainly so I don't forget what I'm up to and so if others are interested now or in the future they can pick up where I have left off.

A project by Offensive Security
The Kali NetHunter is an Android penetration testing platform targeted towards Nexus and OnePlus devices built on top of Kali Linux, which includes some special and unique features. Of course, you have all the usual Kali tools in NetHunter as well as the ability to get a full VNC session from your phone to a graphical Kali chroot, however the strength of NetHunter does not end there. We've incorporated some amazing features into the NetHunter OS which are both powerful and unique. From pre-programmed HID Keyboard (Teensy) attacks, to BadUSB Man In The Middle attacks, to one-click MANA Evil Access Point setups, access to the Offensive Security Exploit Database... And yes, NetHunter natively supports wireless 802.11 frame injection with a variety of supported USB NICs.
Documentation and Attack Descriptions
Attack descriptions as well as some documentation to get you started with the installation and setup of Kali NetHunter can be found at https://github.com/offensive-security/kali-nethunter/wiki.
Is Kali NetHunter an Android ROM?
Kali Linux NetHunter is not a ROM but is meant to be installed over an existing stock/factory image of Android. It can also be installed over some Cyanogenmod based ROMs depending on device support. It is heavily based on using custom kernels and only supports a select number of devices. We're relying on you, the community, to port your devices for the full Kali NetHunter experience.

My end goal with this was to get the Z5C to be one of the supported devices for NH.
I have run out of time.
Porting the kernel was the easy part. Modifying the NH installer is a little more involved.
At the moment you can down load this .zip. (link below) (1GB)
https://mega.nz/#!QsZCjazY!2tou3dQzhpmN9Y_M0c--ASUQx1422TSvP3nlf44HdC8
it contains my kernel.img modified to run kali for Z5C
A Kali chroot/app/binary/script installer
A (kernel) module/ boot screeninstaller
an un-installer
Unzip, save all on your phone. Flash the boot.img via fastboot, boot in to your unofficial version of TWRP flash kali installer then the modules zip. Reboot.
Open terminal
type
Code:
[COLOR="Purple"]su
bootkali
apt-get install kali-linux-nethunter
apt-get update[/COLOR]
I recommend
Code:
[COLOR="purple"]apt-get install kali-linux-wireless
apt-get install kali-linux-pwtools[/COLOR]
when this is done open the NetHunter App and have a look.
Note **The auto package installer doest work in this kernels current state because the NetHunter Terminal cant find root.
This has to do with type of SU binary/rooting method used.
My kernel source : https://github.com/joeisgood99/Z5C-Copyleft-Kernel/tree/NetHunter-N.3
-Copy left 33.3.A.2.33
-modified to boot and run kali including external hardware support ie wireless cards, usb keyboard.
-rooted
-BB installed
-DRM fix installed
-dm-verity is disabled
-Sony RIC disabled
-alucard, zzmoove, elementalx CPU goveners.
What doest work.
-The auto package installer in the NetHunter app doest work in this kernels current state because the NetHunter Terminal cant find root. If anyone can get ChainFires SuperSU to work on android 7.0 for Z5C that might fix the problem. Or simlink a binary to where the terminal is looking for su.
Here is a non rooted NetHunter boot.img for those that wanna test superSU latest boot patch for xperia devices
https://mega.nz/#!0gJARLDY!fGJunpddv0J7gCNW-5gucnjH9XDTNF8yQO0_-drFnFo
-NetHunter terminal wont open (as above)
-Driverdroid attacks don't work on stock kernel because the “detect usb device” function keeps getting in the way.
These problems most likely wont exist if someone ports this to an AOSP kernel. I would but I don't use vanilla AOSP, CM, linage OS or Omni Rom atm.
For those that get in to this and clone the project from offensive-security will quickly find that any install.zip built for z5c from the installer will break parts of the phone if flashed over stock. (levels of brokenness depend on who's unofficial version of TWRP you are using)
I listed the issues here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/help/request-kali-nethunter-t3505788/post71687707#post71687707
Feel free t peruse my github repos to look at how I temporally went around the easy problems.
Feel free to submit proper fixes.
Do NOT Harass NetHunter devs with issues for NetHunter on Z5C as the device is not officially supported.
Enjoy.

Nice work, solid effort, gave up playing with it when battery/heat issues with updates and such.
Never been close to 2 day power since 5.1.1.
Fantastic, Thank you very much for that!
can you port it to official lineage os please.

Master @Joeisgood99 what external wireless adaptor (wireless card) support for NH Z5 compact nougat?
Solved wlan1 monitor mode
Master @Joeisgood99 can you compile the kernel or modul or ROM kali nethunter z5c support to bypass safetynet?
Hi mate.
I don't have a Z5 anymore (dropped out of my pocket and got Run over by a car.) I deleted all the source code off my computer when I got a OP5t.
I'm busy today but will look on my computer for a compiled kernel.
To biomass safety net you need an app. (There are a few out there on xda ) and I used SuperSU rooting process. Bipassing safety net has more to do with the rooting process then the kernel. I use magisk on my OP5t so but up with how it's done now on Sony devices.
