P9 lite battery issues - Huawei P9 Lite Questions & Answers

Hello there guys, my first post here.
So I've purchased the P9 lite recently and it's running great except for the battery. I know comparing SOT's is stupid, but this thing doesn't get past 4h5min mark. NO MATTER HOW I USE IT. It's on L21C432B504 version EMUI 5.0.3, Android 7.0
I've ran a test like HighOnAndroid YouTube channel, where you run a YouTube playlist in 1080p in airplane mode with everything off except WiFi. The phone ran 4h50min SOT before shutting off. It's older sibling, the P9 ran 6h14min. I've used better battery stats to find the culprit but the ain't any.
I was thinking to rollback to B360 because some say it runs pretty great but I'm afraid of bricking the phone. Some people get 6+ hours screen on time on this thing, and I can't get past 4.
Help ?

Perhaps You Could Try A Custom ROM? Downgrading Is A Risky Process IMO. Some Custom ROMs Offer Performance Tweaks Under K Settings And That Could Just What You Need

Change battery?

I've replaced the battery and now I am hitting 6+ hours SOT without any issues. Thanks guys

Bad battery life on all phones? A curse?

Hello, so okay I agree the title is a bit too dramatic but I'm veryyy frustrated, so basically I've owned three android smartphones so far:
Samsung galaxy grand prime ve
OnePlus X
OnePlus 5
(a steady increase in specs)
And I have a question: why can I not get reasonable battery performance on any phone? On my oneplus X when I bought it, for the first few months I used to get 2.5 SOT and then months later I started getting barely an hour (45mins). No matter which roms or kernels I flashed, it made no difference. Battery saver on? No difference Greenify on? A small negligible amount saved...
Infuriated by this I finally came to buy a OnePlus 5 which I thought would put an end to this. However here I am, full of my battery saving habits still in me (which I have done so much research on to make sure they don't make it worse, trust me, I could write a battery saving wiki) and with a draining oneplus 5 in my hands. I've tried different roms and different kernels but still the same bad problem : a DRAINING BATTERY... I can get through a day with 3hrs SOT if battery saving mode is turned on but with a normal stock OOS I could never. I don't understand... I've tried BBS and GSam to try and find the source of this and still nothing. So I have resorted to the unofficial RR which comes with Lighting kernel which I have underclocked and use with battery saving mode on (not android's, ex kernel manager's one). So I have finally turned to xda so someone may be able to help me.
Cheers
Ps: I don't believe I am a target of the NSA and I have a special phone that is customized to track me...
I'd be looking at the apps you haveinstalled... Sounds like there's something running in background eating away at your battery life...
Or it's an energy vampire living in your home....
I am getting radically different battery performance with this phone day to day. One day it'll get a solids like 6.5 hours SoT and others I'll get like 4. Various issues it seems. Shouldnt be that hard to get consistent battery life.
Agree with above. Only common denominator here is you / your apps. But, stock+magisk with franco kernel and the app naptime is enough for me to get 5-7h sot out a full battery, but usually it's half full when I go to bed
You've mentioned that you tried many things to resolve this but I'll go ahead and tell you the things I use to make my battery last a little longer (hopefully there is something useful for you)
- Greenify with Magisk Module
- ForceDoze
- Location almost always on battery saving mode
- Force Doze for Google Play Services Magisk Module
- if WiFi is on, data will be off, and if data is on, then WiFi is off
- Bluetooth is always off if nothing is connected to it
- brightness is kept relatively low/halfway at most, the majority of the time
Running unofficial RR with Lightning Kernel v11 (1000hz version)
All this combined gives me roughly 9-9.5 SOT (about 140 apps installed)
If I forgot to mention anything, I'll edit it in here!
I've been very careful with my apps and I can't see what could be causing, I've tried third party Facebook apps instead of the official one for example and there's nothing strange installed.

Try with basic steps. Factory reset then:
1) Have totally stock OP5 - no "battery saving tricks", no apps. Run a bit. What is SOT? If less then average of 5-6 hours - either you have a "curse"/NSA tracking you or defective hardware.
2) Install your "battery saving trick" one by one testing after now and then. Are there any improvements in SOT? If yes, then write your wiki page, share your findings . If not, write your wiki page and tell us what application is a culprit.
3) Rinse and repeat until no more application left to install or you got bored.
I'm getting incredibly poor battery life after the latest update. I haven't let it fully deplete yet so maybe it just needs recalibrated?

There`s alot of sstuff activated on your 1+5. Try turning it off and check the SoT afterwards. Also some people were complaining because their Android-System was consuming way too much energy.

Oops, I meant to follow up on this. Android System and Google Play were causing a lot of wakelocks. I cleared cache in the Google Play and Google Services apps sad now I'm back to my typical 6-7 hours SoT.

What ROM gives you the best battery life?

I bought my G4+ almost a year and a half ago, and have since flashed lot of ROMS(Nougat and Oreo) until about a month back, when custom ROMS gave me only about 2-3 hours of SOT. I then flashed stock 7.0 and was getting around 3.5 hours of SOT, and now its back to 2.5 since a week. I now barely value performance as I only use whatsapp, reddit and a music player. I've checked the relevant threads, they seem outdated and I feel I'd get a better answer this way.
What ROM and Kernel should I use for maximizing my battery life? Is downgrading to 6.0.1 stock a viable option?
NOTE: I know my phone is old and I'll upgrade my phone in May, but I really need to find a way to stop my phone dying on me in the middle of the day.

Hello, a one year old phone isn't old unless the battery capacity isn't good anymore.
Anyway, there are lots of threads(not outdated, actual discussions ongoing) that can help you to maximize your battery life:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/best-rom-moto-g4-plus-t3703836
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/rom-using-t3691454

And also this one:

Now take some time and read possible solutions. You won't get other answers than already written in those threads
And please don't downgrade to marshmallow, you won't get better battery life, it's only minor and not worth the risks.

Oreo in Germany (EU)

I got the notification today that there's Oreo available for my U Ultra (I'm in Germany, Hessen) and just wanted to ask if someone's already done the update and if they could share their opinions on it
I've done the update yesterday and i guess twrp ****ed it up. Now i'm using a custom rom cause I haven't done an backup of my old system.

I guess you are on the Single SIM phone. From what I've been reading here and there, people are saying it is more finished than the DualSIM. Although it has a very aggressive battery saving settings so many of your apps will be terminated while the phone is on idle (apps such as Skype, Signal, WhatsApp etc.) unless you grant them exemption from battery saving.
The SOT is said to be shorter than Nougat.
However, to properly install the OTA you do have to have the factory recovery (not the TWRP).
(I'm on DualSIM and still Nougat so take my words just as a hint.)

I've been on Oreo for a while now and I would say that the battery life got better after a bit of use. Kinda like if the phone had to get used to my usage? Went from 2h SOT to nearly 4 and a half hours SOT. I didn't reset it or anything. Just went with it and it works fine for me. No real increase in power since nougat was already very smooth and powerful for me. I like the design though. Don't regret installing the update:victory:

So, since I've just messed up with my Xposed/Magisk install I think I use the 1st of May for upgrade and tweaks.

Extreme battery drain on oreo

Hi
I have an g9350 (china edge) and i bought it, as you can guess, in China. At first it was ok, holded battery for 2-3 days of semi-usage.
When i returned back home, i installed an s9 ported 8.0 oreo rom. (Aurora v32) (my stock was 7.0 N)
Then, my battery drain got much stronger, and my phone can't keep even a day on semi-usage, with battery saving turned on!
I tried going to detailed battery info to check what was draining the battery buuuut..... there isn't such option on oreo 8.0 (what?)
So, I would really like to stay on oreo, since I like it, but I need to find the solution to extreme battery drain.
Anyone know anything that may help me?
Maybe it is related to the ported Rom or the Kernel.
Have you tried to flash a Stock Oreo Rom and check the Battery drain again?

Oreo + stability update

Hi,
I have been using this phone for a year now. I really feel we got more preformance after oreo. The phone is pretty smooth after all the hassle. I do think we lost a bit screen on time with the os update. I feel that is many times the price of getting more speed. Anyway i tried for a while my G4 rooted + optimized. My conclusion is that optimized + sabs and non rooted s7 edge is really fast phone. I see no lag. I feel this phone has a year left in it and thats actually impressive knowing its 2,5 years old.
I tried Oreo without factory reset. My experience was that some of the apps did not function well. So i did the factory reset and all works now. I think its only smart move after os update. Now i will just clear system cache after minor fixes.
The last as good deal was lg g2 to me. Love your phone still its in the competition with never phones. After year i bet we see improvements that will make many of us consider changing to a next generation of phones.
Btw. Did anyone else get the stability update after oreo? What do you guys think of it? My feel is that now almost 100% is working and smooth as a butter.

You need to specify what version of the phone you actually have.
Thanks for the comment.
I edited the first post to give the model of my phone

I have moved back to nougat and stayed there for now, i did not mind the cell drain as it still lasted me all day, however i had random reboots as soon as i moved to official Oreo or even custom rom with 8.0 base, did not matter what i did the reboots would get worse over time. I moved back to nougat and not one reboot experienced, Oreo for me is good when it worked and would love to use it but drove me crackers when rebooting. SM-G935F

This is actually intresting. My phone did random screen freeze and couple of reboots in nougat, but on Oreo that is not happening to me.
But i do definetly have the cell drain still after the last update. I kind of woke up by the fact that i have lost about 1h screen on time. Yes i am a heavy user so thats the first que for something is eating the battery.
What kind of cycle your battery lasts average and how is your SOT on nougat? My is average 27hours on time hours and sot 5-6 hours

I am unable to advise you on SOT as i don't monitor this, i am running a custom rom with nougat base (Sac23 S8 port) i have a battery life of between 29 and 32 hours, never really goes past 40% remaining at the end of the day.
