I want to disable an app because it run in the background all the time, even I Force Stop, it comes back later, the only time I need it when I don't have wifi connection. If I uninstall it, I need to download it via 3G that cost money
So is there any way to disable it, and only enable when I need it.
Yes, if you have root access Titanium backup can freeze and unfreeze it as needed.

I am new to Android, still got my iphone 3GS as a backup. One reason for switching was to be able to watch flash video, the problem I have is because apps and services never seem to close, no matter what I try, video too slow to play with everything else running.
Is it possible to stop services on the Galaxy Note so they don't restart automatically, unless I want them to? I have tried several killer apps, but does not really do it. Why is not possible to only run one app and service at a time or why I want?

There are some apps and services which restart upon closing manually. The only way to have them remain closed is by freezing them or uninstalling them. You have to first root your phone and then install Titanium Backup. In there you will have to either uninstall the apps/services or freeze them. It also works on stock apps which came pre-installed on the phone. Just be careful not to uninstall any apps which are part of the O/S.
you need to root your phone, and rum a root level app manager.

once you rooted, install titanium backup. To back up all you apps. If you are willing to pay, this app will let you freeze apps not to run in the background as well.
Or install gemini apps manager, it allows you to change the autostart, block, and uninstall any apps you want.
Just becareful not to block or uninstall importNt system apps.They are addictive because you feel powerful and in control.
i google'd this but can't find anything on it and was wondering if the s3 is the first phone that allows users to disable at&t services without root. this is my first android device so i wouldn't know if that's true...
anyway, i have hotspots, navigator, messages, and updater. Carat is saying updater uses a lot of my battery, but that is the only one i can't disable in the application management menu in settings. however, i assume if i disable the other 3 then updater will have nothing to update and will consume less battery (hopefully).
has anyone tried to disable these programs with success, i.e. without it causing problems to your phone?
im not sure. but i did try to uninstall one and then it just showed up that it needed a update so i ended up redownloading the app because im so OCD about having updates not done

You go into the application manager and DISABLE the app. I have gotten rid of ALL the ATT bloatware this way. Works sort of like
Titanium Backup but you do not need the root. Great option.

This is actually one of the 'features' of ICS (being able to disable apps w/o needing root). It basically very similar to "freezing" apps in TiBackup if you have root. It's generally much safer than outright deleting an app since if you do find you need it you can always re-enable it.
Make sure you have "auto update" unchecked in Google play first. Go to manage apps in settings and then go to "all".
Disable the ones that you don't need which is prolly a lot. You can also hide them if you want. While in your app drawer hit the menu button and choose hide apps.

Do they work if you want to open them? If so, they are not disabled.
They should disappear after a restart of the launcher.
Otherwise, just hide them.

Yes there is a way. You can root your device easily with help on this forum or another thread (search for: how to root device Samsung galaxy s4 i guess? , so you can uninstall the bloatware apps with the app Root Uninstaller from the Playstore. If you are not familiar with this way to remove system Google Apps, than don't try it. It can mess up your Device very bad. But it's worth a try. Just learn and follow the instructions very good with a little help. That's all i can say from my experience which is very positive:good:

A grayed out "disable" means it cannot be disabled.
If an app was disabled, the "disable" option gets replaced by "enable".
Disabled apps aren't supposed to work either, so obviously your apps weren't disabled.
Is there a way to disable the service so it won't show on the home screen? I have root and all apps disabled but it still is there empty and says loading on boot.. I just don't want it there at all..
I have root. There has to be a way to remove it but I have searched and found nothing. Any help appreciated

OK I figured it out for anyone wanting to know.
You need root. There are 2 services you have to disable.
You can use a service Disabler app.
I used Disable Service.
Under the system apps you will see 2 leanback services. If you click on these they each have2 services within them. Disable the one that has recommended in the name. (Under both instances of leanback)
Afterwards the leanback home screen loads as normal but the recommendations are completely gone.
mate if you just want to stop recommdations, u dont need root, just go to apps and disable leanback launcher recommendations, currently no one has been able to stop the actual launcher home screen though
That didn't work for me. There is actually to instances of lean back you can find with a service Disabler. I went under both and disabled the recommended. Now on my home screen I see nothing.

No. I just have android TV home without the recommended section at the top. Which was what I was after.
To accomplish: disable service app
In disable service you find 2 instances of lean back launcher. Go in each one and disable recommendations.
Afterwards no recommendations will exist on the launcher home. Gone. Not just an empty recommendations section
as i said this can be done by just disable leanback recommendations, i have 2 shields and my mum has one and a close friend and have been able do this on all for on stock without any modifications
