What is happening to this community?
What is with all the complaining ALL the time? This community is falling apart and we are all responsible for that. It seems all anyone ever does is complain about EVERY little tiny thing... We actually have it pretty good. Most of the Epic users will be on stock ROM's for the life of their phones. We have the opportunity to use, create and share something much better. The developers here at XDA are top notch and clearly do a better job then both Sprint and Samsung seem to be capable of...and yet we still find things to complain about and people to criticize. Why is that??
Speaking of the developers here, they put a HUGE amount of time and sometimes money (hosting ect) into providing all of us something truly useful and a big step up from what we would otherwise be stuck with. The attitude of "entitlement" needs to shift to something more like being "grateful" for what is provide here, FREE of charge.
Sure some developers have an off XDA website but so what. If it doesn't violate the rules then WHO CARES. Speaking for myself ONLY, I have very good reasons for redirecting (and I do believe I meet the requirements) traffic to my blog and they don't revolve around money. If you don't like the "inconvenience" of being redirected then don't use my ROM's. I can't please everyone..no matter how hard I may try. The way I personally view it is if I can find the time in my life to put this stuff together for anyone that wants to use it then you should be able to find the extra few minutes it takes click the link and follow it to my blog. That is the only thing I ask for all the time I freely give to this.
Quite frankly, we as the members of the XDA community need to reevaluate things. The developers DONATE their time (and some have precious little of it) and energy to HELP all of you... This whole "entitled" attitude and the "God complexes" some people have developed is a bit disturbing. I won't speak for anyone but myself but in my opinion, the sheer amount of time that goes into these releases completely eclipses the few minutes it takes to redirect to another site for a link (again as long as it doesn't violate the rules). Instead of complaining about EVERYTHING be GRATEFUL your not stuck on a stock ROM....
Many people can't even be bothered to click the Thanks button or read the directions.. I personally like helping you all out if my limited knowledge can be useful but I'm starting to become to frustrated to care anymore and I do really try to stay positive. All of this drama revolves around a phone....a phone people. There are WAY bigger things going on around you right now to get this worked up about a phone..... If you need some perspective on life please feel free to read my blog.
We can do better... I know we are all capable of better... When crap threads get started don't dignify them by commenting, just move past it. Report it if you want and more on... We should all take some pride in all the accomplishments this community achieved.
For my part, I will continue to help, learn and contribute to this community while spreading Autism Awareness..... What will you do?
Amen brother!
Gotta agree with you 100%. I came from another forum and a WinMo phone, and the community was much more supportive and friendly. The only reason I stay is because of a few excellent developers here. Not sure why XDA is getting so unpleasant, but we could use a little more tolerance here.
(Hope that doesn't get me banned)
Well said. Its all free why complain. I am not a developer but I have tried every rom on here and it seems to me most of the roms have a little bit of work from all the devs......so why the bickering. I also have to imagine most devs do this as kind of a hobby, why else do it there is almost nothing to be gained other than the challenge of improving on something that a manufacturer didn't get quite right (not baashing sammy every phone has its own issues or xda probably wouldn't be so popular).
That being said I just started using midnight, nice rom man. But besides that I started reading your blog about a month ago, it really makes me step back and take a look at things differently. I don't post much on this site cuz I have little to actually contribute but your right there are bigger things than a rom to get worked up over.

I think you and all the devs do an awesome job personally. Honestly any problem I've ever had has been solved just by searching for literally less then 5 minutes. I hardly need to ask questions because the devs and testers are so quick to answer any question. I absolutely LOVE how my phone runs and works.
Any negative threads I just...ignore. No point in them really.
So ya THANKS to you and all the devs.
I know when i was on my tp2 and flashing roms even tho how much a pos that phone was compared to this amazing phone we have now and the awesome roms we have
i have been happy and not complaining about anything on my epic.
If people dont like samsung then go buy something else i personally been fed up with htc hardware..
As for redirecting to sites, i have no problem doing that a all and i like reading your blog @ptfdmedic i always goto your site if im looking for a flashable zip or news, even tho i dont use your rom
i appreciate all your hard work and your autism awareness.
This community is for people who want to experiment with your phone and make it better, so if you happen to have an issue dont complain instead search read instructions and dont be lazy and ***** at samsung software glitches and what not considering our amazing developers here usually have some fixes within a few hours of the bug report.
AMAZING
Thanks to all the developers
For making my epic truly epic and better then any phone out atm.
Agreed!!
As for me not much i can do but give sexual favors....
The issues described reflect a larger societal issue. We cannot change people, so the best tools are forum moderators and users setting a good example.

u say this after you take your so called "Toothpaste" ad out of your signature. lmao
I agree with you pftmedic. Thanks for that speech. I hope.more.people will read it and realize what you said. Why get worked up cause you have to.make 2 extra clicks to download a rom for FREE!! I also wanted to say that I.love reading your blogs Rob and my prayers are with you and your family. I really enjoyed the story about the man at the grocery store. That was very touching and you had me emotional. I know your goal is to try to get autism awareness out there so people can understand it. I don't know anyone that has autism so I never really knew about it. I just wanted to let u know that you opened up my eyes to autism and I.live reading your stories. Thanks for being such an inspiration to us when we are feeling overwhelmed with something. I will continue to pray for you and your family and God bless your little angels.

...comedic relief.....
Perhaps sometimes people need a place to vent and work out their stress. I know, do it elsewhere, not here......
Thank you for saying what a lot of us have been thinking.
Its always been this unpleasant with the exception of a few brief periods.. Its just the nature of the Epic community.

I agree but that doesn't mean we have to continue making the same mistakes.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. So if we want better then we need to change things up a bit.

Thanks, it is appreciated. I agree with the complaints thing. It's part of the reason I don't post too often. Except to thank.
Yea i was "joking"
Keepin it Constructive
Thanks buddy - well said! Hope this connects with the right folks.
Well said ptfdmedic, I agree that there are many people who feel entitled here. Maybe I come across that way without feeling like I do but I try my best not to. I don't hit the thanks button much but I am fairly new here and I am not used to it. As for redirecting to your site, I actually like being redirected there, I read 50 pages of your blog the other night and it was eyeopening. My father works in special-ed and the kids he works with are at Eliot's level, it was interesting to read just how further the continuum goes.
The Atrix is a great phone. This is the reason I bought this phone, and the reason many of you bought this phone. If I have learned anything from technology it would be that EVERYTHING has its short commings as well as good things. Because of the technological advances we have been "trained" to think every bit of technology is or should be perfect and if it is not, simply complain about it. "Back in the day" people would have though black magic is at work looking at a phone such as the Atrix; yet we still complain about it all the time. This is a dual core phone for Christs sake! As long as the PHONE does it job and allows you to use its PHONE functions, it has done his job and you should be satisfied. This is a smart phone, it is smart - it does what you need but when it loads 0.002 seconds slower than you except you bi--h and complain about how you're going to return it and how it was the worst phone you've ever had. Please...people...if the phone does what you need it to do in a timely manner, it is fine. I and several other xda brethren are sick of hearing all your sad "goodbye Atrix" stories. Just stop it, if you have a legitimate complaint please call Motorola or use the official Motorola support forum.
Thanks for reading!

Well said, I often read the same bullcrap from Nokia N900 users over at the Maemo forums whining about their devices. Does my head in.
Amen brotha!
Here's an example for your amusement.

I was pointed to the board by a friend after I grew tired of my iPhone and decided to go to android, I spent weeks researching and decided that the Atrix was the best phone for me at the time, and guess what... It was. I love it and have no doubt in my mind I bought the right phone. I have grown tired of all the negative attitudes on this board, the flames and trolls, and nay sayers.
I wish they would just leave the board so those of us that enjoy our Atrix can see what can be done and what we will be able to do with it.
A healthy discussion is one thing but I grow weary of the rhetoric and hyperbole that passes for argument here.
I want people to keep *****ing and leaving!
I love reading the responses to the OP's parting comments. Usually hillarious and help me get through the day!
Well said. I agree with your post, and myself am a little dismayed at the attitude of people here. I havent seen this much complaining on previous technical forums I've gone to. That said, this is the internet and so its really to be expected that people will act like this on some level. Its sad, but there's not much that can be done about it.
Dunno how this thread contributes in anything it only triggers flaming.
Thread closed.
T-Mobile was offering a web special on a free G2 for activating a new line. Even with Sprint's 2-year contract renewal, the Evo Shift 4G and Nexus S 4G cost $150 and $200, respectively. Also, 4.3" devices like the EVO 3D are of no interest to me. It was cheaper for me to cough up the early termination fee. My G2 should arrive on Monday.
Before I leave, I want to thank everyone who has positively contributed to my Android experience with the Hero. This development community continues to exceeded my expectations... I still find it hard to believe we're all content with running an Android with 1st generation hardware, and we have great devs to thank for that. Even after the legendary devs like toastcfh, nfinitefx45, and others have left, we have new great devs who filled in. And of course, thanks to all the regulars who keep this forum alive and provide a supportive environment (you know who you are). Although I'm not as talkative and dedicated as some of you, I just hope I've been able contribute my share of helping and support as well
you will be missed sir.. and i dont blame you thats a pretty good deal.. im too stuck on sprint to leave, they have been too good to me over the years.. but have often said that if i left i would go t-mo for some of their devices.. so God speed my friend, im sure we will see you floating around here somewhere..
A man it was a blast having you apart of the hero community. Thanks for all the knowledge and time you put into the hero forums. Take care and enjoy your new phone. Have a good one.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
Thanks for the kind words everyone I'll probably still be checking up on the never ending progress that is aospCmod and the revived 2.6.35 kernel
Peace c00ller. Enjoy your new phone. It was fun
Cooller,
Thanks for the help that you have given to many. I, as many others I'm sure- and as you can see, appreciate what you have brought to the hero threads. I moved from Verizon to Sprint for the $ reason's as well and for me, it was a good move. I got my 1st android phone (our Hero's) and I found XDA. It has been a great experience (learning, fun, and a great way to kill some time) and you have been a part of making it so.
Good luck and happy flashing. I know that whatever phone you are using, you will still be apart of this great community on XDA and the jewels that are made and found here.
I think I feel a tear coming on. No, it was just gas.
Happy Flashing!
DP (I should have gone with DogPoop instead since I'm not drunk and not a pilot...today anyway).
Perhaps some people may consider this thread as a spam but screw it
I just wanted to say that last year spent here was amazing, you guys were amazing. Knowing such a wonderful community and be part of it was an honor for me. Thank you All for a great time and new experiences.
Good luck and see you out there
Right, so I have stopped development totally, because I just don't have the time.
Currently I am at school, and I have to revise for exams, and with my spare time I should really be revising instead of developing, and I have realised this recently. I want to do good in school so I can go to college to study Maths and Physics.
With the rest of my spare time, I am going to find some work, maybe it will not be consistent but I need to futureproof my bank account, which currently stands empty. I will be hoping to buy an Xperia S, but I will probably end up with another device, its too expensive. I will also need the funds to cover travel and books. And for university
If at any time I feel that the conditions change, then I will start development again, say if its the holidays and I have no work or exams or anything. The main issue is the money, my parents won't give me any (that might sound teenagerish, but its not) and I need some. I'm going to sound really greedy here but I would like another Android device.
Anyway, my kernel sources are at: https://github.com/DarkforestGroup so if you want to continue my kernels, and you have sufficient experience, then you can. Otherwise you are free to fork it and use it as a base for your own.
My ROM's will not be updated, and so after time you should use another ROM, because mine will become outdated.
I'm also not going to apply for XDA Recognised Developer status.
Over and out,
Keiran
EDIT:.After thoroughly thinking about it I have decided that I can continue to develop, but only when I have done sufficient revision. I will continue my kernel and ROMs, but they wont be updated as frequently. This is the best I can do
And thanks for all of the positive replies.
Sorry to see you go, you will be missed
Sad to see you go, You were a very important part of the community, Good luck with your exams (They suck).
Good luck. By the way, you make the best ROMs.
You'll be missed mate but your future comes first. Good luck with your exams and hope everything goes well for ya

Thanks for all your contributions.
Thanks for all your work, you'll surely be missed around here
Well, this is sudden, and unexpected. I'd bet you've had some bad grades which may have come from your huge dedication to us. It's a wild guess, bit I've been in a similar position in the past. At any rate, the only thing we can do is give you a great applause for your work here and thank you for your huge efforts, plus wish you luck in your future endeavors. You'll be remembered as the young man who stepped up the game on this phone (pun intended). Feel free to come here anytime you like, though some withdrawal may be good right now.

Who are you again? I don't think you posted much on the forums.
Anyways, good luck, whoever you are?

Anyways, it was mostly because of coursework, but I've worked out, I can spend a few hours on the weekend so maybe I can do a little development, but nothing heavy.

All jokes aside, it's better to give up something you enjoy in the short-term, instead of ruining things in the long-term. It's really easy to pick up developing again whenever you like, but it's not easy to go back and make up the time to get good grades again.
Good luck with things and well done on making this decision now. xda is not going anywhere and all the trolls will still be here.
Thank you for all your hard work, our awesome kernels/roms. Good luck with school.
All the best for the future mate!! Thanks for all your hard work

Keiran, you do whatever you need to, bud. I think we are all in agreement here that you don't owe any of us anything, and we all owe you a whole lot of gratitude for all you have done while here. We're all proud just to have known such a creative, intelligent, motivated young man, and we all wish you only the best in the future.
I don't know what things are like in Europe, but here in the colonies , a young person with such drive and determination can often apply for and receive scholarships to pay for part or all of his college tuition. I encourage you to look into that.
Good luck man, hope you the very best.

To echo what netizenmt said, you should probably look into getting internships that would really allow you to demonstrate your abilities. Not only would they be more likely to contribute to your schooling, but you'd also have your foot in the door for a good career, right off the bat.
As far as developing on Saturdays goes, I would honestly recommend taking a back seat and being the support for other developers around here. That way, you could still contribute as you'd like to, but wouldn't necessarily have the pressure of keeping your own kernels/roms up to speed on your own.
Either way, do what you think is best for your situation, not for what the noobs think they need. Good luck, man, you deserve it.
Though I have joined this community not for long, I learned much from your works.
I'm going to have one of my course exam tonight and can understand your situation.
Anyway, put your energy and time on the most important things you think.
