# MultiROM introduction from Nexus 4 MultiROM thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46223377)
MultiROM is one-of-a-kind multi-boot mod made by @Tasssadar for Nexus 7 and ported to Nexus 4. It can boot any Android ROM as well as other systems like Ubuntu Touch (not yet).Besides booting from device's internal memory, MultiROM can boot from USB drive connected to the device via OTG cable. The main part of MultiROM is a boot manager, which appears every time your device starts and lets you choose ROM to boot. You can see how it looks on the left image below and in gallery. ROMs are installed and managed via modified TWRP recovery. You can use standard ZIP files to install secondary Android ROMs, daily prebuilt image files to install Ubuntu Touch and MultiROM even has its own installer system, which can be used to ship other Linux-based systems.
Features:
* Multiboot any number of Android ROMs
* Restore nandroid backup as secondary ROM
* Boot from USB drive attached via OTG cable

In brief, we can install/boot not only multiple android roms(Cm, stock sony firmwares...etc..) but only other operating systems like Ubuntu Touch, Firefox OS, Tizen.
There are already exist multirom ports to Xperia M, Xperia Z(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54740070), Xperia ZL
I think porting to Z2 is similar to these devices.

Thanks~!
I have been looking into it, but the booting system seems slightly different with Z2. So I am sort of still trying to understand the changes.
Its a good idea not to go back and forth usin' backups

I tried to work on it...
But the reason that i didn't continue it was limited sources (+afraid to hard-brick my phone ).
I suggest MultiRom to DoomLord several months ago (before XZ2) he has enough resources + knowledge.
anyway he is always one of the first (or only dev) who release exploit for rooting xperia devices
and his kernels ............
+ I Really Love Multi-ROM
this project always force me to use Nexus devices...
:good:
multibooting a android device isnt hard if you have some smarts
xda developer @letama had made a dualboot/boot manager for xperia s and it was very good aside one small querk, apps on your internal storage vs data partition would disapear
im concidering porting to a device as soon as i have the knowlage to, but C coding language is extremly hard to self teach

I've been working on a MultiROM fork optimized for Sony Xperia devices - as of now, it works on L (huge WIP though), Z, ZL and Tablet Z. You can join if you want to.
C isn't that hard, try coding in assembly language.

I would love to see this on the Xperia Z2. I have this on my Nexus 7 (2013).
Let's make this happen
I have atempted to port but i require some help because im not a dev

I'm not a dev either but I'm willing to learn/help/chip in ideas with people who are willing to port it. As I haven't read anything about multi-ROM I'm going to assume it needs an unlocked bootloader however. I'm going to do some reading now though. And my answer to needing an unlocked bootloader was in the first post... Yes I do as it requires a custom kernel.

Dear All,
This morning when i tried to restore deleted photos from my A2017G (AEX 5.8 nFound Latest Treble ROM) because i accidentally deleted some important photos yesterday.
These are my spec:
- A2017G 4/64
- AEX 5.8 Treble by NFound build date 20180812
- Kernel Schwifty vR3+
- Magisk v16.7 (1671)
-- GL Tools Module
-- Magic Charging Switch Module
File recovery app:
- Disk Digger Pro File Recovery build date 20180805
I found some recovered photos which i never took with my camera or screenshot, and by the look of them indicated that they were taken silently by system (please notice there is no statusbar on the pics).
Can anyone else confirm my findings? Is it possible that the custom ROM itself does this or other software? I never installed any malicious or unknown apks on my phone but XDA Labs Apk and Magisk Modules.
Attached are some of my proofs (recovered with Disk Digger Pro), there are more but some of them are private whatsapp chat session and my contact lists.
Please be advised, this is a pure Q&A post, i never intended to accuse any developer of any ROM or Software regarding my findings posted in this post.
Any chance that recovery app showed original location?
do you need the file recovery app pro version to check? Root or standard scan?

Does the free root scan work? Or is there a free alternative that works? Don't think people will buy the app just to test this.
Can you tell us in which folder these screenshot files were placed?

free version is working perfectly for photos/videos, as long as you gave it root access.

they were "deleted" and the recovered files show no original name/loc.
For the time being, I move to PixelExperience Treble GSI.
I just hope and pray everyone else's data and privacy is safe using any custom rom out there.
Seeing similar screenshots here on Kranoner's last RR-O. My system has a lot of mods, but yours is clean right so it's not likely our apps or mods. I checked there's nothing similar on my Sony Z3C L14.1. Could be from custom bootstack or recovery. More likely it could be from closed ZTE code in drivers or bootstack. Easy way to narrow the cause to being proprietary ZTE code is running complete stock with root for awhile to check if it occurs. My ROM is B32 Nougat source with it too (though I think it has some Chinese B10 source mixed in looking at github), so can run B32 stock to check. Some screenshots are saved as 1440 while some as 720 resolution.
It will not look weird if this is true.ROMS from axon7 are maintained by someone from an "unfriendly state"
Moderator Edit: Please avoid being TOO explicit in your opinion on fellow earth-dwellers... I've edited the above. Thanks
Well this is strange then. Someone else mentioned the same Disk Digger discovered screenshots thing in the Moto G5S Plus forums earlier this month. Lluvia ROM. Wonder what's going on here.
I reckon it's time I examine my stuff on both phones.

That has got to be the most idiotic thing. So you're saying "they" (Kranoner, NFound, WesTD, et al) are subversives? Secretly and purposely grabbing goodies from our phones for some nefarious purpose? LMFAO.
Sure it's not beyond possibility but still...
That can be the case with anyone, whether they're flying the Red, White & Blue or the sickle and hammer.
Since a big chunk of ROMs are built by folks from around the world what are you gonna do. Start vetting devs to find out what their views are regarding the US/West before flashing ROMs. We really don't need that kind of thinking.

ZTE, a government audited company from China recently got whipped by the USA for breeching privacy laws and providing equipment to Iran and you are worried about Russian and Turkish developers?
Do you realise that the Turks are big allies of the west? They fight with the west against trouble in the middle east.
And what connection would a developer have with any politics anyway?
Who says developers dont work in secret for the government? but i say crazy things fast lol,but not impossible. What else can the problem be?Google sources?

You can twrp backup first, test and restore after. Keep net turned off all the while or use a firewall.
edit: to external card to not lose deleted recoverable images

I got one better, was trying to download one of the HellsGate Kernels on my computer and Chrome won't let me download it due to a Virus detected and MSE quarantined it. I tried two different mirrors and same thing. Could be a false postive after reading about it but just want to let people know about it.

Report says it's a Win32 trojan. Don't think that applies to an Android kernel build file. Probably false positive
Has anyone been able to get encryption working on a GSI ROM with the Moto G6 Plus? I have tried a lot of different ROMs but have been unable to get encryption working.
On all ROMS that I have installed (phhTreble 9.0, AOSPExtended - numerous builds of each) the phone says that it is encrypted. But I am able to boot TWRP through fastboot, see all the files unencrypted and copy them to a SD card or OTG USB. This leads me to believe that the ROM is misreporting the encryption status on this phone since when I flash back to stock the file based encryption works correctly with all file names becoming scrambled in TWRP and errors being thrown when trying to copy them.
I won't migrate to my new device until I am convinced that the encryption works correctly. I am hoping that someone can help shed some light on this issue for me. Is this a GSI issue? Is this limited to the Moto G6 Plus? I have spent a lot of time digging to find information about this with no luck. I see a lot of posts about how to disable the force encryption for a number of devices? Is encryption broken on all ROMS / devices right now and I just haven't seen the discussion? Either that or I am one of the few people who are having an issue with device encryption. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction, thanks for taking the time to read.
Try using the lastest twrp from official page it can decrypt internal storage :
https://dl.twrp.me/evert/twrp-3.2.3-1-evert.img
Or use this, also we can install it (go to Advanced> install ramdisk recovery and check backup current boot partition) this not permanent so every time you flash GSI or ROM it will disappeared, so you have to install it again

Thank You!
@RokCruz thank you so much!
I figured that it was something silly that I had missed or did not understand. I had been using a version of TWRP that was posted elsewhere on XDA that I guess does not support encryption and that was why when I flashed a GSI the files did not get encrypted correctly.
I do find it concerning that the ROMs I was using kept reporting that the phone was encrypted when it was not. But that is probably a different issue. I am glad that I caught this however. Thanks again.

Lately I've been testing some of it, maybe all of it.
Android 10 I tried AOSP, Descendant X and Google GSI, Android 9 Pie I tried AOSDP, AOSiP, AOSP, AospExtended, ArrowOS, Bliss OS, Descendant, Dot OS, FlokoROM, Havoc-OS, OctopusOS, Paranoid Android, ResurrectionRemix, ViperOS, ZirconiumAosp and some other that I don't remember now.
None of then work properly, some of them I wasn't able to make boot and others boot but BT crash or WiFi crash or both of them crash.
I have asked on their respective forums and nobody was able to help me.
Did you join Phh telegram?
He seems to be on top of most issues.
Check to see if anything has been written about whatever device you have and model in the documentation for your device. That's what I always do first then search like hell for your device on xda in all gsi threads starting with phh Android 10 gsi. If you find nothing anywhere make a backup and copy it to your computer and then format data and and wipe it clean and flash gsi system.img and reboot and see if it boots afterwards. I suggest using fastboot from your computer to flash GSI because not all twrp recoveries are GSI compatible and that could be why they aren't booting for you. Also sometimes they take 4-5 minutes to boot. I've had that happen to me. GSIs are made for developers really to test their apps on. I mean that's what they're initially for and whats so awesome about the whole deal. But if you can't boot after you format data and wipe data, system, cache you may need to be using a vendor.img and a boot.img from a firmware for your device firmware page.. The vendor and boot image may be from another Android version than you're trying to install like you may have to use Oreo vendor and an Android 9 boot.img to boot an Android 10 gsi. It can get confusing I know I've been there man and I've searched and flashed tons of times and no boot but eventually if you look enough and try and keep it up you will know your device like the people who made it. I've been on xda many years since the Nexus S really and I sometimes search 25 different search words and find nothing and then I search the 26th time and locate something that didn't come up before. Is this the galaxy S9 snapdragon that you're using? More information the better but the whole GSI is actually brilliant and doesn't suck by any means. It's just a bit of a mission at times to figure things out. Been there many times bro. What's your model # ? Ill see if I can find anything with you...
I'm using Galaxy S9 Exynos, SM-G960F

Here's some info on filing big report on GSI. https://source.android.com/setup/contribute/report-bugs#platform
I think many people are in same boat as you with only booting some of them because they are made different sometimes and sometimes there's maybe more work done or different kinds of work done on one than on another one. Always read that PHH's AOSP GSI is most compatible which makes sense. If you want to try more GSI's do a Google search for [email protected] and you'll find another 30 more that aren't here on xda. Haha. .
If you want to try more GSI's there are TONS of them, probably 50+ or more on telegram just search GSI telegram and you'll see the groups. Not sure if your a telegram person or not but tons of stuff there too.
And you can do what you want but I'd change the title of this thread if I were you. While I can understand why you did it that way it's disrespectful. Just my opinion.... PHH does a TON of work for Android and is an awesome developer for lack of a better word. Js
(Edit)
Maybe try a different vendor.

I'll ask Google
I was doing research regarding UBPorts on the Pixel XL and had stumbled across another forum and found multiple GSI images created for A/AB devices and can confirm that MIUI does boot with the proper prerequsites (sorry it is currently 3am at the time of posting this) and i wanted to share this with those who wanted to run MIUI and ONEUI on their device
Requirements are as follows
- Android 9.0 Vendor Image
- Stock Android 9 Boot image
- resized System partition (Pixel Expierence 11 provides a Resize partition image Zip that can be flashed later on using twrp)
(im currently using android 10 Bootloader and Radio, i will test some more and see if that needs to be downgraded as well)
i will attach the Permissive v4 flashable zip that you will need to boot properly (it was a hassle to find)
People who have issues flashing a System image using twrp should use the Factory Firmware and replace the System.img with your GSI in the Image-marlin-xxx.zip file and do the Flash all script using window, mac, or linux
the Forum i found everything on will be attached below

Hi
Are you able to boot the Android 12 Beta 1 GSI?
I've tried with both Android 9 and 11's vendor and boot, and used the attached permissive zip. Sadly, no success yet.
Next thing I will try is replacing the system.img in the factory image of Android 9, but I need some extra hard drive space on my computer before trying that.
And how is something going on regarding installing GSI on the Pixel XL? Any new news, maybe evidence of GSI booting properly?

well it boots up enough to the point that it is visible to PC, but other than that, theres an app causing the system to panic and reset
the OneUI rom did boot to optimizing apps, but it would finish then panic, causing the device to reboot

well i mean if someone is able to reproduce the given instructions, and was able to get a kernel dump and a logcat of it, maybe it would be a easier process. but like i said on the other comments, its able to get to a live system, be online, but there seems to be a certian app/service that triggers the panic. With the OneUI rom, it showed up in windows as a Samsung Galaxy usb device, but afterwards, it would get to a certian system app when optimizing, then panic. but thats what i know and can remember
