I have a Zenfone Max Pro M1 (duh?) 3GB variant, I understand that this phone only supports 2.4GHz, but it does support 802.11n
I have a 150Mbps dual-antenna Wireless AP, but when my phone connected to the AP, it only can up to 72Mbps.
I wonder if there's anyway to boost the speed up to 150Mbps? If no, is it limited to the hardware or software?
How much speed does your isp offer?
Just root your phone and set gChannelBondingMode24GHz=1
In file named as wcnss_qcom_cfg.ini which can be easily find in some root directory.
It works fine for me

After testing new firmware with two different routers at two different places I can definitely say it's got the same range and disconnect issues when compared to existent v.1 with fix applied. What is your experience folks?
Improved network speed over 5GHz band
Range is okay for me, but the speed that the update brings via 5 GHz band has improved significantly as compared to 12.1.A.0.266, a little better than PureXPERIence ROM.

Trust you to provide us with test results...
Thks!
Edit: don't know what steroid your system is on D) but my tests gave me 15mbps for dl and 39 for upload - think its the low end plan I subscribed to (Singtel)
Am envious...

Maybe is your router that is limiting the speed. I'm using ASUS RT-N66U, on 5 GHz band. 2.4 GHz band has always been limited to just 50 Mbps or so for both downstream and upstream (Xperia SP limitation).
My broadband speed on 5GHz band differs significantly at times too, from lows of 60 to highs of 120 Mbps. No idea why is there such high different though.
Sent from my C5303 using xda app-developers app
Speed is not an issue, I've got what I'm paying for when I'm close to the router.. It's range and disconnection I'm having problem with, especially when connected to an old G router. So I've applied the same trick i used before and it's working.
This I found at xperia Z forum and it might help someone else too.
1. Root your phone. Download and install Root Explorer or ES File Explorer (Explorer).
2. Make sure you manage how to use the Explorer as a tool to modify files in the /system folder.
3. Using the Explorer, browse to /system/etc/firmware/wlan/prima/WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini
4. Make a backup if you wish. Most of the parameters inside need not be changed except the followings:
a. gTxPowerCap=30 (change to 60 increases the TX power)
b. gDot11Mode=auto (change to n to always connect as n, but if you sometimes want to use g, don't change this) (this I changed to auto though it was 0)
c. You may wish to play around with the other parameters as well
5. Now save the file.
6. Browse to /system/etc/hostapd/hostapd_default.conf
7. Again make a backup copy.
8. This is a long file. So please hang on. Amendment of the following is recommended:
a. max_num_sta=2007 (change to 10 to only display 10 wireless AP)
b. channel=6 (change to 0 can solve most wifi connection problems).
This might drain battery a bit faster, but I can live with that.
802.11g WiFi is normally weaker than 802.11n even on N 5GHz. Increase the TX will not only increases battery consumption, it also can get hot much quickly. I know this because I set my RT-N66U to 110mW from initial 80mW.
Why not just invest into a 802.11n router. Single band N300 is more than what you need since your broadband isn't all that fast in the first place. Just don't go for N150, it isn't built for the future when broadband hits 30 Mbps or higher and coverage is much weaker than N300 too.
Also, unless you're using custom ROM or on unlocked bootloader with advanced, there's no way you can modify these values. Both will void your warranty which can put your phone on risk.
Well, not everyone have N router, so you're not going to find it everywhere, and I like to be backward compatible. I was also thinking about decreasing Tx power, perhaps 60 is a bit too much. I'm on existenz v3 w/LB and root is enough to change these values. You're right about warranty, however think about doing this should know that.
Mine Xiaomi mi note 2 never reaches more than ~ 45 Mbit on Wifi (tested with speedtest.net app). Someone also have this problem?
Rom - official Chinese 8.0.15.0, no root, no unlocked bootloader.
No issue here.

(Use "request desktop site" with http://beta.speedtest.net to avoid having to download the app)
There's only a 1x1 antenna in the Mi Note 2 so using a 2.4GHz network without channel bonding will max out somewhere around 50Mb/s in practical use. Oddly about half the time it will only use 20Mhz rather than the 40Mhz it's capable of though I think this is ROM dependent and I can't think now which roms offered channel bonding. It seems pretty clear that 8.0.15.0 doesn't though.
Upgrading to a 5Ghz network will help a lot, you could also upgrade to the latest rom and see if that improves things.
Hi,
Can anyone share their Speed Test result here?
I'm trying a module from magisk called Wifi Bonding. My speed jumps from 2mbps to 30mbps on a speedtest result. I just want to confirm that it really works. Thanks.
Hi guys.
Is there a ROM with WiFi not slowing down when Bluetooth is active?
Tried multiple ones but there is always this bug.
I don't think there is a chance to get this.
I had the same situation and searched a lot.
What I found out is, that both are using the same frequence range (2,4 GHz) and therefor disturbing each other.
If I am wrong and anyone has a hint, I would be happy.

I don't think that there was a problem on older versions of Android therefore I think it should be solvable.
BT is always on for my watch and no pbs with WiFi..... I have a Xiaomi Router (2.4 and 5GHz) and on my Redmi I use Wifi Bonding in Magisk

For me it was always there, even with the latest official MIUI 10 (Android 6). I think I started with MIUI 9.
On my side I have a MI Band 2 connected with my phone and at home I am using a FritzBox 7490 and a FritzBox 4040.

That could explain why it is faster. If I remember correct, my FritzBox shows me the Redmi only uses 70 Mbit Wlan speed with 20MHz Bandwith.
I will recheck this a home. (Didn't check what is shown since I installed Lineageos 15.1)
So maybe 150Mbit Speed and high bandwidth were enabled in older versions (Kernel, Drivers, Configuration).
@vojtah1
Do you know a Rom and version without that problem?
Maybe it is possible to compare the WiFi configs between that rom and get the difference.

Not 100% sure but i think that xperience ROM worked fine.
edit: I use land as a daily and got tired of reflashing. Not gonna check now.
I'm with DotOS 3.0 with Yuka kernel and no wifi problems
Hi All,
The problem is that the hotspot (2.4 GHz, Device identification:default, security WPA2-Personal) is correctly seen by the laptops but there is no internet connection. I received the Mi 9T last week and it's a great phone except for the hotspot not working properly. I received it with the global version installed, I did all the usual updates up to MIUI V11.0.4 (QFJMIXM).
On the Macbook Pro (Retina 2015, Mojave 14.6) there is a very slow, barely usable, connection which is confirmed by the MCS index = 0, despite the strong signal (RSSI= -26 dBm). Under the WiFi information on the Mac, the country code is missing and the transmission channel is usually an unusaul value (3, 7 or 8 I noticed). For comparison, when using the hotspot function in another Android phone (Honor 8X with stock ROM) with the same SIM card , the MCS index is 7, the country code is correct, the transmission channel is 6 or 11, and the download/upload is around 20 Mbps.
When using a Dell laptop (Windows 10), the laptop connects to the MI 9T hotspot and has an IP but the pages are not even loaded. Funny enough, when both laptops are connected to the wifi created by the MI 9T, they can ping each other correctly.
The data rates on the Mi 9T over 4G are really fast (>40 Mbps). The Honor 8X works perfectly when connected to the MI 9T, with rates > 20Mbps.
Reading other discussions online, someone fixed it with
Code:
adb shell settings put global tether_dun_required 0
I checked the correct value after rebooting (zero as expected) but still no/slow internet on the laptops. Same with adding DUN in the APN type. I also tried to change the SIM from slot 1 to 2, no difference at all.
As a last desperate chance, I unlocked the boootloader and flashed the European version (QFJEUXM) with TWRP. The flash was perfect, but the problem is still there exactly as described above with the Global ROM.
Is anyone else having a similar problem? Do you think that other ROM (Pixel Experience, LineageOS, etc.) may fix this?
I'd really like to keep the phone because the hardware is amazing, but the overall experience is quite a pain with such a limitation on the hotspot function.
Hope someone can finally fix this
Used hotspot many times with notebooks, phones, consoles nad never had a problem. you could try to set cellular settings manually. I'm on 11.0.4 also Lineage worked ok
Yes thanks, I tried to use the same APN settings of the other android phone with the same SIM, still same problem.
Update: I have upgraded to the latest weekly ROM (MIUI 11.2 20.3.26), unfortunately the country code is still X3 when using the hotspot, both at 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz. The only difference is that at 2.4 GHz the MCS level is 0 (even if internet works normally) and with the 5 GHz setting the MCS is 7 or 8. In both cases internet works fine, but the country code is an issue with the firewall on other devices.
Any suggestion or help is greatly appreciated as I really need the hotspot function to work as per the other Android phone!
