LOS 15 to LOS 14 rollback - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Good morning
I've updated to LOS 15, but before I've backed up all partitions one by one with recovery version twrp-3.1.0-0-ailsa_ii.img
Can I roll back to 14 ?
current situation:
I have now TWRP_3.2.3-0L_v1.3-Axon7-Labs_Mod as a recovery (twrp-3.2.3-0-axon7 has never worked)
Can I keep the boot ZTE_A7LOSv1_UniversalBootStack ?
Can I flash safely my saved modem partition, if I have to ?
Another interesting thing is that a vendor partition has been created, Installation of los 15 has been complaining about it, but I insisted and it finally worked.
Would it be a problem when restoring system and data partitions?
Thanks

You should be able to flash the nougat boot loader and then flash the latest lineage build for 14.1.

Can't Restore Encrypted TWRP Backup?

Good evening all,
Tonight I tried flashing the official LineageOS 14.1 build to my OP5, as I've been on rooted stock with an unlocked bootloader ever since I bought my device. I followed the installation instructions in the thread and on the Lineage wiki, and also made a backup in TWRP. Basically, what I did was:
->Copy LinageOS.zip and Gapps.zip to my phone
->Boot in to TWRP, made a backup
->Wiped /cache, /dalvik, /system, and /data
->Flashed Lineage and Gapps
->Rebooted
These are the steps I've always taken on other devices to flash a custom ROM. Yet after about 45 minutes of seeing the Lineage boot animation, I knew something was up. I rebooted into TWRP, only to find my backup was unavailable and all the contents of my SD card were whacked out. After a bit of reading online, I came to the conclusion that my data is encrypted and that I need to decrypt it if I have any hope of restoring my backup and saving my precious data (I've got three years worth of migrated text messages I'd love to rescue!). I followed several of the threads posted on the issue, but so far have had absolutely no luck.
Please, is there anything I can do to recover my data?

Need HELP!! How to safely install oreo from a Pie custom rom?

Hello
I've been running arrow os since its release.
Let me describe in detail. I rooted and started installing custom rom when I was in Nougat. I had installed PixelExperience oreo build for long time. Later I installed Pie GSI builds. Every time I followed as per OP instructions till now no problems. After GSI builds I switched to Arrow OS custom rom. Till now no problem at all. But now Arrow os latest build has to be installed on stock oreo as per the developer announcement.
I have been reading various threads to safely install custom oreo. Since I have less time being doctor none of the threads specifically solves my problem. Please someone guide me which steps to follow.
Also i've vendor and vendor image partition made after I installed GSI builds I don't know to delete them if required.
I have EFS and persists Backup but the folder shows 0kb for persist.
Flash the TWRP flashable Stock Oreo builds by @NZedPred, you'll be good to go.
Use the aroma installer with its default settings if your persist is intact. Then you can clean flash ArrowOS, the FP and NFC firmware will have been updated.
The vendor partition gets wiped when you wipe the system partition, that already happened when you started running ArrowOS.

Thank you. Yes i already followed that.
No issues and clean install.
The vendor image folder is still there consuming around 650mb and also a Vendor folder consuming 103mb. I am not sure why.

Trying to install, but unable to mount data

Hi, I'll try to be as detailed as possible but just know that I am somewhat of an amateur with android and I only have surface level knowledge.
I have an Axon 7 that I successfully installed OrdenKrieger's unofficial LineageOS 16.0 a few months ago (build 20181114). I saw recently that there was a new build so I booted to TWRP to flash it, but found that I could not access my file system. I am able to select (in the mount menu) system, cache, and persist, but not data. I then tried to reformat my data based on a thread I found, but then I booted back to TRWP the same problem was still there.
If anyone could help me solve this it would be very much appreciated. I have a few other problems too with root installation and dac selection, but this I am just not able to figure out why is happening.
I am on a vendor partition, but I do not remember which tool I used, just that it was one of the first to come out after Lineage 16 was released for the Axon 7. My TWRP version is 3.3.1-0 and I am not sure which bootloader/modem I installed either.
Maybe try reformating/changing your vendor partition size
I have the same problem, installed LOS 16.0 recently and TWRP is unable to mount internal storage. Anyone have a fix for this? Have tried flashing the latest TWRP via fastboot but didn't help

unable to restore TWRP nandroid backups

So I've tried with a few different roms including the official 8.1 oreo, lineage OS 15 and 16 and a few other custom pie/oreo roms. Installed everything normal, latest TWRP version tried both full disk encryption and FBE based TWRP's and roms and although the backup and restore process doesnt show any error upon reboot it either goes directly to TWRP or shows the boot image of the restored rom for a few seconds then shuts down and boots up to TWRP again. Any ideas on whats wrong? Factory resetting at this point doesn't help it work.
Would appriciate any insight on this, I've tried so many roms now with f2fs as well as fde file systems, both encrypted and unencrypted and none of the nandroid backups I make using the latest TWRP or TWRP-FBE depending have worked at all. I am able to make the backup and restore it, no errors but it will never boot up, always either boot loop or stuck on Google logo screen.
Now I just can't seem to find what I'm doing wrong with this phone, I've formatted and reinstalled a bunch of times with latest Magisk root, last two roms I tried with android 9 was RR 7.2 and AICP weeklies, and before that the stock 8.1 from google none of which could be restored from nandroid backup. On my other phones I have TWRP backup/restore function working no problem, so I know how to use the UI with sucess.
Anyone come across anything for this maybe?

Please Help! (Urgent)

Guys, I'm not very mature with this device Rn7. As i already know about it's encryption. It's v flaky.
I'm running LOS 17.1, i have setup Pin & Fingerprint in my device which i enter into the recovery as well for decryption. I never flashed a Firmware thingy in my Device. As i have read before flashing many ROMs, You should have to flash Android Q firmwares on Top. But i never did that when flashing LOS 17.1. I just rooted Miui 11 installed custom recovery (Orange Fox R11) & flashed LOS 17.1
Question 1: LOS 17.1 is FBE or FDE?
Question 2: If i want to move on to Bliss ROM 12.11 from my current LOS 17.1 (21.7 nightly), Formating data will be necessary? Or i can just wipe? So i don't loose my Internal storage.
Question 3: Does anyone know how to flash a firmware? BlissROM OP says flashing a firmware on the Top before flashing Rom.zip?
Question 4: If i want to backup (nandroid) my current OS (LOS 17.1) into the recovery. Exactly which partitions i should backup? So i can restore after trying Bliss ROM or if i get a bootloop or other issues (if needed). My Internal storage will be safe at that time aswell after restore?
My Current OS: LOS 17.1
Current Recovery: Orange Fox R11
LOS 17 is fbe. idk the rest

1) LOS 17.1 is FBE
2) when changing ROM is recommended to clean flash and format data but you can try to install the new ROM without formatting data, in case of bootloop or issues booting the system the only solution is to format data or restore the nandroid backup of the previous ROM
3) download the latest stable firmware (for your region or the global one) from https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/firmware/lavender/ then just flash it in recovery
4) read carefully this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ngefox-recovery-project-t3941822/post79771469 remember to copy the backup to a safe place (external sd card or computer)

If i flash the firmware on the top first. & Clean flash the ROM but without formating data. & if the ROM bootloops, i can just format the data & reboot the system? I will have the working device with newly flashed ROM? Or i will have to re-flash the whole ROM. zip again after formatting the data if newly flashed ROM bootloops?
Necessary to know for me, Because i won't have ROM.zip into my internal storage then if i will format the data when the ROM bootloops.
In addition to what others have posted, I would add :
- you can flash firmware anyhow.
- only /data and internal storage parts. are needed in most cases to be backed up. But that depends on what you wanna backup. I personally do not recommend relying on nandroid backups for data because of encryption. It is a hit and miss and you dont wanna take the risk in regards to data I believe. Just use an app data backup tool instead.
- Efs, modem, persist partitions should be backed up at least once and should be saved in different places because they can help fixing rare issues of imei lost, fingerprint breaking etc

Format data after flashing the ROM and then rebooting the system should be ok and you don't need to reflash anything
