I have looked through the topics and online but cant find anyway to backup existing apps, games and general settings on the Shield TV without root.
Normally I wouldn't worry about this but as Google have actually started to delete games entirely from the play store, and you cant even download them if you have previously purchased them as they are missing from your purchase history, there are a few games on the Shield I want to backup so I can restore them if I need to, also I wouldn't mind being able to do a full backup of them all at some point.
I would use Helium but that's cant be installed from the play store, so you cant install it and then the premium key that I would need for backing it up. I tried ES Explorer but the Shield version is dire and doesn't do backups.
For some reason the usual backup option is missing from the backup and reset option in the OS itself, even so this would not restore deleted games on the play store in the event of a reinstall.
If I could backup the games and apps apk's I guess I could manually backup the obb files etc using a file manager.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have ES File Explorer Pro (I think I paid $2.99 for it a few years ago) and it lets me backup my apps. I can then move them to a NAS I have connected to my router. Now, I will say, I'm not a gamer, so I can't vouch for how well it would backup some of these huge game files, but it might be worth your time to give it a try.
Best of luck! And let us know if it works for you.

I ended up using X-plore File Manager to extract and save the apk, then made backup copies of the data and obb directories manually to a usb key inserted in the Shield. Installing the apk on my phone then copying the directories back seems to have worked. I was hoping for something more automated though as I can see process having to be carried out again in the future.
Found out after I did this process, X-Plore File Manger has a built in WiFi server so the directories could have been copied from the shield to the phone from my PC with the WiFi server running on each device without the need for a USB Key.
Thank you for taking the time to reply, any help or suggestion is always appreciated.

Anyone that has actually been able to pull off a working backup, please tell me how you have did it. I have used multiply versions of Titanium Backup, and they all do the same thing, create a second folder starting with a period. Then the app just fc's. So what backup software are you using and what busybox version (how did you get it installed). What device did the backup come from. Does it work after rebooting the xoom.
Thanks
No, not yet. No FC issues, but not back-ups either. It creates the folder, but the only things being backed up are wifi, bluetooth settings, etc. No data or apps are being backed up. My BB version says 1.16.0 and that's what came within the app.
Got angry birds, angry birds seasons, and google voice to work by extracted the data files and moving the backups file by file.
Hey guys,
So, I thought I'd put up a quick list. The special part of this list is that all the apps here are free and are often shadowed by their competitors and not that well known. However, they beat their competitors in many ways.
I'm assuming you are rooted and I'm providing this list as is with no gurantee.
1) File Expert
This is a file browsing program. It's ad-free unlike Astro. It supports SMB. It supports a portable FTP/HTTP file server. It has root explorer capabilities. It also has a built-in zip/rar archive manager. I see Astro mentioned almost everywhere but people hardly notice this faster, simpler yet feature rich alternative.

2) LBE Privacy Guard
This app provides real time alerts to what personal data and chargeable features apps are using and allows you to block them if you desire. This is a relatively new app but it's relatively stable.

3) Link2SD
A lot of GT540 people use it but a lot of others don't. Link2SD allows you to link individual apps to the SD. It supports moving apk, lib and data files. This helps you leave some apps on internal memory so that you will have them at all times and move the unimportant ones to SD. Unlike Android's native App2SD, this doesn't require any support from the dev/app. Further, it supports moving to ext2/ext3/ext4 partitions which are faster than FAT32.

4) MyBackup Root.
Unlike Titanium Backup, this app supports online backups, multiple backups etc. in the free version itself.

5) Autostarts
This is a startup manager for Android. This app helps you prevent apps from starting automatically based on system intents such as startup, boot complete, media mounted and even widget updating. This app removes the startup permission so that the apps don't start in the first place unlike other startup managers which start up by themselves and then kill each app after it starts. This helps you prevent apps like RealPlayer or other media players starting up at system start. This would make the time it takes for your device to become to responsive after startup. Very useful if you use a lot of apps.

The market version is €0.69. However, this app is open source. You can get the source from https://github.com/miracle2k/android-autostarts and compile yourself!
6) YaffsExpert
Supports extracting/modifying/packaging img files from within Android. You could even flash recovery and boot without using fastboot or recovery.
Link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jiaofamily.android.yaffs&feature=search_result
I use all these apps regularly on my LG Optimus GT540. So, am posting it in the GT540 section. However, am sure most of these apps will work on all Android phones.
Hi, is the File Expert better or capable of doing what Root Explorer does?
For me, Root Explorer is quite simple and fast.

Yes. File Expert can replace both Root Explorer and Astro. I won't say it's better but it's two in one. Root explorer is excellent for messing with system files. However, it lacks many of the more advanced file management features of Astro or File Expert.

Hello,
I installed Mybackup Root, but when I try to ue the online backups, it says that I need to purchase the Pro license or the MyToolbox license. What version are you using? Mine is the latest from Android Market.
Thank you very much for your list.
GB
Titanium Backup also supports multiple backups at once.Just select the batch button and it will open up a menu with many batch operations. So,in my opinion, Titanium Backup is better than My Backup because My Backup doesn't save the market links for the apps.

I don't use online backups. I tried online backups in an older version, the version before MyToolbox was added

Am talking about the number of backups. When I tried Titanium Backup, it supported only one backup.

Hi,
I don't know where I could ask this so I did it there... move the topic if it's not the good place, thanks.
I want to know on a STOCK (no root, no custom firmware) before a factory reset how to keep all savegame and datas from GAMES somewhere (like a SDCard or else)
because last time I did a factory reset I had to restart all from the start...
- Download all data for games (couples of megabytes)
- Restart all from level 1
Is there any application can help, or method ?
-----------------------------
seems possible to save with ADB
-----------------------------
DunDef :
Backup: adb pull /sdcard/DunDef/ sdcard/DunDef/
Restore: adb push sdcard/DunDef/ /sdcard/DunDef/
*************
but... I think need to be rooted to see all files for others and can push and pull all.
Note:
All method are welcome but I do prefer the genuine one.
Thanks by advance.

Titanium Backup can backup all apps+data and restore back to new ROM even freeze bloatware without delete it
But you will need to be root
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&feature=search_result
I just want backup the "save and data" from game, nothing else...
what folder have to be saved, how to get them back.
let say I want get my tablet like first day, then just reinstall freshly games, and play back right where I was before reset.
Not restore applications, datas, etc...
But I will check about this application anyway.
Thanks.
You don't have access to those files w/o root.
titanium backup do it best.. of course with root, but u can use mybackup pro.. i think it dont require root...
There is a free in the market called "favorite games backup." Not sure what games you're playing but that's what I use for Angry Birds...FYI it backs up to your SD card so it will survive a factory reset. Hope this helps.
Actually I find where was the saves...
they are hidden in data/data/... need to be root for read this directory.
do you have a direct link to the market of the favorite games backup application
I just searched in market for it and can't find it. Might not be compatable with honeycomb or might have been pulled. Can someone confirm...is it ok for me to post .apk if its a free app? I would be happy to do so.

Make sure you're on the latest TiBu, 1.5.1 (or newer?) SuperSU, and that you're using the legacy path to sdcard for the TiBu backup path, NOT the emulated path.
Do not reinstall your apps from Titanium. Install them from Play and restore the data only for downloaded apps. Do not restore any system data or bad things will happen.
help
I tried to download some apps and games some of them downloaded and after that when I try to download any apps or games it say "unknown error code During application Install "-24" "
And when I startup my tablet it say
It want me to wipe all data I think that will remove apps and games and os files

Reinstalling apps from TiBu is fine, sheesh.
I fixed the problem when I download apps or games from play store but I want if there are any way fix the problem in startup without wipe my data and I want to know which ddata will be wiped
BUMP
What's the best way to move apps and data from n5 L to 6p M? Can we just move the Titanium BU folder to the new device and restore data? Google doesn't restore apps and data from Amazon, and seems to miss some other game data. Just restore Titanium app with Google restore? Or does nfc work with all apps and data (never tried it)?
Not sure what spell check did to the title, supposed to be "Back up data".
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Titanium backup will do the trick, I've found. There are plenty of guides on how to do this. (Seems like you are familiar w/ it though.) http://bfy.tw/29yY
I usually make backups of only the apps I'm concerned about, plus a keyboard.apk I like, plus Amazon stuffs...
Then copy the folder into the SD card area of the new device.
Install TB from Play store on new phone.
Remove apps I'll be restoring, because they auto-installed, and it's kind of annoying but whatever.
Point TB to the folder I copied over, and restore one at a time. I've had some apps go sideways on a batch restore, but I don't know if it was the batch restore or the backup itself which caused the issue. Either way, I do one at a time now.
Enjoy.
More tips:
The First rule of TB is you never restore system apps.
The Second rule of TB is you NEVER restore system apps.
III Commandment : Thou shalt restoreth system apps never, or thy soul shall burn in heck.
If an app you plan on restoring DID NOT AUTO-GOOGLE-RESTORE-thingy during setup, it's a big tip it might not be compatible in some way in your new OS version / device. Go to Play store and check.
Games and other apps that already backup to the cloud - skip those, or at least don't restore them until you install from Play store normally and see how they recover. If they recover fine, then great.
Restore a small # of apps at a time, and test them all.
