Whenever I open the stock camera app, screen brightness is automatically set to maximum. I get that it's a feature some people like to take better photos but there should be an option to disable it. Other camera apps have this option but lack EIS or portrait mode. Would really like to use the stock app but this one issue is very annoying. Any help?
To enable EIS , click the given link

If you feel that the camera is really important then you can explore XDA for enabling google camera on phone .
The automatic is a default configuration in the phone and you cant do anything for that . Its actually useful because sometimes the display is visible during bright sunlight . Or else install the Nokia camera port on the phone. It will also give the extra PiP feature

Here's the thing, I never use my phone in landscape so I prefer to have it locked from rotating . What happens is that sometimes I need to take a quick picture either through the camera app or whatsapp and I always forget to have to take off rotation. So I was wondering if there's a way to set it up somehow so the camera isn't affected by the rotation lock. Maybe a modded camera apk or something?
I just disabled rotation completely. Then I use tasker to enable it for only certain apps where I prefer to have rotation enabled.

1+ for Tasker here too. You can set it to detect when a specific app is launched and it'll change settings according to your desires.
Besides manual controls, i should be able to turn off camera sound/click.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro&hl=en
try this. This is the best camera app available IMO. Also has the feature to disable the shutter sound
I like manual camera! Price is 1-2 euros but gives you full control for everything: shutter speed, manual focus etc.
I use snap camera from the playstore
I have Snap too but I am not completely satisfied from Snap's quality. Maybe I have to play with the settings but I don't want to have such an app. I like good photos out of the box. Just launch the app and take the photo. Also I am searching a camera app that when your want to take a selfie in the dark, you can enable virtual flash that enables a white frame on the screen with maximum brightness in order to light your face. See here for proof it works: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77463019&postcount=578.
Please read OP before asking all questions. This would not be possible if it wasn't for the great Savitar(@defcomg) and Fahmi(@fahmi182).
Did you try it? It didn't work for me, just freezes.. Also, no portrait working, that's the only feature I use in GCAM.
Please we need an exynos versiyon too
Installed on my Verizon Note 9. Works.
i got download the working version for Exynos version by using S9+ gcam~it works almost fully except front facing portrait. All HDR+ is working on rear but not front. AR Stickers is working also.
Why would you use it? Is it better?
Immediately presents "camera has stopped" and force closes on my t-mobile snapdragon note 9.
Portrait mode freezes and if any options are changed "disconnected from camera" error

Interesting... why would it wrk for some and not others
Portrait mode lags big time. Frame skip 3-5 second as soon as you move a tiny bit. Everything else seems to work. Lots of noise though. Any screenshot of the working settings so we can test and see if it's a setting conflict?

What about Exynos version?

Portrait mode is broken for ALL gcam mods! Noise is really normal if in low low light.. Set auto-correct exposure to times 8 or min iso but that requires a lot patience of being still so I suggest use a tripod.
Hey all.
Downloaded this from the above mentioned link.
Was a bit wonky with some controls, but worked for the most part.
Eventually uninstalled because it's just not worth messing with yet.
Check the attached pic for gcam (bottom) and note 9 stock cam (top).
All standard auto settings, just pointed and shot.
Meh to the gcam.
I like it
Here's some more tips I found online:
BUGS:
If you use Adaptive Display screen mode, then your pictures will appear messed up in the Gcam mod's gallery. In that case view them in the stock gallery app or something like Simple Gallery.
The front portrait mode viewfinder appears to refresh at about 0.5 frames per second, but despite the visual choppiness it absolutely does produce a portrait mode result as expected.
Here are the settings I adjusted to get functioning rear and front HDR+ On (or off), HDR+ Enhanced, and face retouching, and front cam Portrait mode:
Disable camera sounds
BSG Mod > Model > Pixel II
BSG Mod > enable Pixels auto-HDR+
Settings > Advanced > enable HDR+ control
BSG Mod > Final jpg quality HDR+ set to 100%
BSG Mod > enable Portrait mode on all models
Bonus settings that I tried that don't break things:
BSG Mod > Zoom in Portrait Mode Front camera set to 1.0(without zoom)
BSG Mod > Increase the detail of the HDR+ in the front..
BSG Mod > Minimal HDR+ smoothing (causes grainy pictures in low light, haven't checked with good lighting)
Got Portrait mode to work using your settings above phillydon04, thanks. And Portrait pix are considerably better than live focus on my Note 9.
But back camera still has a major lag taking pictures (takes like 3 or 4 seconds to take a picture and have the circle indicator go all the way around. Hopefully this can be fixed in the next update
I used this on my T-MOBILE N9 and it consistently freezes on the FFC. Removed and will use the regular camera and Camera FV-5.
Now the GCam port for the N8 works flawlessly. I use it on my 8 without one problem....well, sometimes my pics are upside down, but who cares...it works!

This worked for me, it took a couple tries though. The first couple attempts to install the app produced a black screen when trying to take a picture, video worked fine however. I had to keep force closing and deleting app data until I got the camera to work. When disabling camera sounds it sometimes went back to the black screen. The BSG mods also sometimes produced the black screen. After around a dozen attempts everything works perfectly.
Great
Working great for me!
I find it ridiculous that such a feature does not exist on the default Camera App on OnPlus 6T. What bothers me the most is that there I can't change the format to 16:9 and the resolution to something that eats less MBs. Only have 4:3 and 18:9 available and there's no way to change the resolution either.
Any android phone maker out there let's you change the photo resolution and format. It kind of defeats the purpose of having and Android phone (which supposedly offers you greater flexibility than an Apple device).
Then there are tens of Android apps available that also allow you to do that. The only thing is that even if you set the 3rd party app to be your default Camera app it won't work fromt he Home Screen. By that I mean if I would be to double press the home button, I would like my 3rd party camera app to open and not the OnePlus camera app, which does not have the options that I want.

Ya that is pretty stupid. Lots of people are using gcam tho and I guess this is why
Resolution is the very first thing I change
Thanks for your post ... I actually grabbed the latest Google Camera apk and installed it as my default app.
I actually gave up on using the Google Camera App because it was crashing, freezing or not even taking the pictures most of the time.
I ended up using the regular OnePlus camera app, capturing photos in the wide 18x9 format and enhancing / croping them in Google Photos to 16x9.
When you said you were double tapping the home button to bring up the camera, did you mean the power button? You can choose the default camera to use for the system, and it'll use that camera app when you hit the power button twice.
Nope ... it will not bring the Default camera app when the screen lock is on, it will bring the OnePlus camera app.
Another known defect on all OnePlus devices.
Hello, in my stock camera if i take portrait mode picture, the photo comes normal only with no blur, there's no depth effect on any person or object, tried forced stopping still..
It's not a big problem for me as I am using GCam only for portrait photos ? but the stock camera need to run properly
