lack of ROMs - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello I used to be LG fan since lg g2 , but every time I look into samsung threads i used to find a lot of AOSO based roms and some ported roms from other other devices like MIUI software so I decided to get samsung device so i went and got s8 but unfortunately I couldn't find any Aosp based roms or any ports all the ROMs are tue same but with different names all based on stock ROM and after a while it starts lagging like usually, does that mean e8 is too old now or theres no developers working on this device?

[Q] SlimBean for i9505

Hi, I will probably be picking up an i9505 as a backup phone, and I'm actually really excited because it looks like I can put the final 4.3 build of SlimBean (build 2.2), which I ran on my S2 and it was honestly the most perfectly configurable rom I've ever run on a phone - as similar as a lot of the rom's that came out around that time were, that one had a couple options that I couldn't find on any others, and they made it exactly what I wanted. Anyway, so that I don't brick the phone the same day I get it, can someone confirm for me if the version listed as "jfltetmo" on the SlimRoms website is the corrrect one? This is the T-Mobile variant, but it's the only S4 listed there. The thread in the i9505 original development forum is closed, and the op lists it as being "jfltexx", but that doesn't exist on the SlimRoms site. It's baffling to try to figure out with so many different variants, so that's why I'm asking here, thanks to anyone that can help me!

Yes, jfltetmo is T-Mobile. jfltexx is the international version of the S4. The one that's neverlocked, so to say.

I guess my question is, are ROMs compatible between carrier-specific and unlocked variants?

Of course. It is the same phone after all. The only difference is the software. It also depends on the carrier. Some lock their bootloaders.

Got A S4 AT&T model for cheap. questions a plenty!

Since I just got A S4 I have some questions. I mainly am used to nexus/moto devices in terms of roms/etc, and I know the process is entirely different with the S4.
The model is a AT&T S4. Updated to 5.0.1
I know I won't be able to unlock the bootloader, which is okay as long as I CAN have some hopes of running another firmware on it.
All I require is Root/Xposed, and maybe CM13..or any other android 6.0 based ROM. How feasible are my options? I won't know until I physically have it, but what should I look out for in terms of firmware/bootloader codes?
You cannot run any custom ROM unless the rom is based on a Samsung kernel which means no cm or aosp ROMs.

that sucks. Guess I will sell it for a bit higher than I bought it and grab something else. Thank you.
I have an s4 (Canadian version, i337m) which doesn't have a locked bootloader and I find the phone okay with stock unrooted LP. I used to based my phone decisions on whether there was an XDA forum but my flashaholic days are behind me

Looking fit info how to root Canadian s5 active

I'm being given a Canadian s5 active next week so I'm looking
For info on how to root it and what roms will work on it.
So far from what I've read I can root it with the 900f chainfire root method. And that most roms will not work because the menu and home buttons don't work on custom roms
But that info is pretty out of date...
If you are actively using your s5 active I would love to hear from you
CM 13 based Roms worked for months. Depending on provider have had issues just rooting stock Rogers phone but bell no issues. Depending on what you are looking for lots of stuff available check android dev for Roms Klte is what you are looking for.

So just go with the klte roms (Which I use for my Canadian s5 900w8) and I should not have any problems..
Cm13 roms work but not previous roms..?
(Ie liquid smooth4.4.4, etc)
Thanks for the info

Can you tell me what recovery you are using for the s5 active?
I've tried the TWRP for the 900f but it did not work.
Any ideas?

Confused About Available ROM's

Hello,
I just bought the S7 Edge last week. I live in Canada and I have the SM-G935W8 model.
I see no references to this model in the available ROM's, only support for the F or FD models. I'm new to Samsung phones, but not Android. I'd like to start to tinker with this device, specifically to root it and install AdAway and to be able to uninstall all the bloatware it came with. My device was bought outright so it's not locked to any specific carrier.
The W8 is Exynos based, just like the F and FD models are. Does this mean I can use any ROM created for those models?
Thanks in advance!

Here is an excellent rom which is fully compatible with the canadian S7 Edge W8 model:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/vr-560-tekxnesis-hybrid-s7e-urv1-00-00-t3357561
The developer of the rom has been developing custom roms for android for close 6 years.
His rom is a full featured custom rom and it's truly outstanding. It's a multi-variant G935 rom.
Check it out, and be sure you create a nandroid backup before flashing, just in case you
want to revert back to your existing rom.

Yes it is, I know that...
But the GOOD thing is that the download link is still there and it even WORKS. (The rom works perfectly for me)
The developers here in the S7 Edge thread have a lot of catching up to do before their custom roms have all the user options
and additional rom features like the TEKXnesis HYBRID S7E URv4.5 5/3/16 935F/FD/W8 930F/FD/W8 UNIVERSAL rom has.
Good luck,
Have a great day!
I guess I'm just more curious and confused about the compatibility of the W8 model. Will the F or FD roms work on it? That's all there seems to be available.

The F and FD most likely will work on an W8 but I am almost certain you will
loose call audio and perhaps even data unless you can find a fix-audio twrp
flashable zip file to flash after flashing the rom.
Good luck,

J3119/j3110/j320

Hi folks, it's been rather confusing for me when it comes to buying the J3 because custom ROM is an important criteria.
Just like to know if the ROMs in here will fit for all the above models? I find ROMs in here largely for the J320 so I'm worried if I get the other models.
TIA.
Also for J320 there are different versions like fn, f, m and so on.
At least for fn are roms available.
So ROMs meant for the J320 cannot be flash on the J3119 or J3110?

There ist not a general j320 version. For example the lineage OS for j320fn(single Sim) is not flashable on j320f(Double Sim) without adapting boot.img.
You can compare the chipsets on of your preferred phones here:
http://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3.
If the phones have the same specifications roms can be adapted more easily but if you flash a rom which isn't adapted you are risking bootloop.

As spirit said, although that's not the worst that can happen, the worst that can happen when flashing ROMs (although it's quite rare) is a hard brick, where your phone becomes completely unusable and can't be recovered.
Though I've been rooting and flashing phones for years now (at least 2k flashes if you count flashing updates of the same ROM) and that's only happened to me once on a phone with an MTK processor which were notorious for being tricky at the time.
Yeah, pretty tough to hard brick a phone but why risk it.
Having so many variants of a particular model just kills the support for it.
What's a good low budget Samsung phone with at at least 2GB of RAM with plenty of ROM support?
My old S3 just got updated with Nougat lol.
