Galaxy S5 SM-G900F change HK firmware to UK BTU - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I purchased a Galaxy s5 (SM-G900f) from an ebay seller which came in a sealed box as described. Unfortunately it arrived with non UK firmware which the seller "forgot" to mention and has since confirmed it to be from HK.
I am pretty sure it is a genuine G900f and not a fake, and would like to know if/how this can be updated to a UK BTU firmware.
Current firmware is
AP : G900FZHU1AND1
CP : G900FZHU1ANCD
CSC : G900FZZH1AND1
Ideally I would prefer to update to android v5 rather than v6 from the current v4.4.2
With this is mind I downloaded G900FXXU1BOI3 as a single tar file.
From reading around a bit, I am unclear whether I need a separate CSC file for changing the modem, or whether any additional checkboxes need to be enabled from the default ones on Odin.
I read somewhere that dialling the following code with your device IMEI number: *#272*IMEI Here# will list available ones to choose from - but will I get the BTU option by flashing the firmware listed above?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Still seeking clarification on whether I need a separate CSC tar.md5 or not.
Also should I keep my UK sim in the phone so that when I delete cache and factory reset, the BTU CSC will be selected?
Thanks

OK - decided to risk it after a bit more searching as wasn't sure when I might get someone able to confirm things.
I used the firmware listed above (single tar file).
Ensured my UK Sim was in the phone
Made sure Odin "Re-Partition” and “Auto Reboot” were not enabled
And ran the update. All worked OK and my CSC is now the correct UK one.
Was expecting to need a “Wipe data/Factory reset” but this didn't prove necessary.
Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Hi guy!
I have the same firmware G900FZHU1AND1
where to get the tar file?
Thanks in advance.

In need of help, gathering all that I can.

Hello guys.
I just have one very weird problem with my phone.
Previously, i've been using the asian singapore firmware dxjf4. Today, I decided to flash over to JG5, but didn't like it. So i flashed back to my asian firmware.
What happened is, during the point of flashing, my phone says
E:Error in /cache/recovery/sec_csc.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
Then installation of firmware terminated. Therefore, my phone is still bricked, and I don't know how to revert it back to the asian firmware.
When i flashed the european jg5 firmware, i had to add in the .pit 512, the csc, the pda, and the modem. But for the asian firmware, i only need the pda. So did i flash incorrectly? please help!
Do i need to do a factory data reset before i flash?
Or is there a special way to flash from jg5 to dxjf4?
I wouldn't want another firmware as a solution, because the singapore firmware has specific features and i got certain carrier benefits from the 2 year contract phone line that could enable those specific features.
Thanks.
FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HELP ME, PLEASE LOOK AT POST 4. I HAVE SOLVED THIS PROBLEM, BUT MY NEXT PROBLEM IS ON POST 4.
Clear cache and clear settings, Flash again with Asian and use pit 512 and select repartition option.
If no good stay with jm5 til SingTel releases a new rom with csc file.

List of method tried
Hi ickyboo, i've tried your method before. I even went to the extent of doing a factory data reset on adb recovery. But they all don't help.
For the list of methods i've tried:
flashing dxjf4 with 512 .pt
flashing dxjf4 with 513 .pit
flashing dxjf4 with 512 .pit with repartition
flashing dxjf4 with 513 .pit with repartition (but failed)
flashing dxjf4 with csc and modem of jg5 with repartition
flashing dxjf4 with csc, pda, and modem (but failed)
flashing dxjf4 without any pit
wiping cache and data in adb recovery then flash dxjf4 without any pit
...None have worked and they either show up as
E:Error in /cache/recovery/sec_csc.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted.
or (failed) if stated above the list of methods.
Please help me thanks.
I realised where i what went wrong, but the problem is i don't know how to solve it, unless i have the file.
Every firmware comes with the csc and modem. Unfortunately, those provided as samsung firmwares are not full. The csc and modem of dxjf4 isn't there. Without that, i cannot flash over to dxjf4.
To prove it to you, i did a simple test. I used the pda of dxjf4, and the modem and csc of dxjg4 (another asian firmware). It successfully flashed over to the asian firmware. However, the dxjg4 is lacking the apps that i need. So i decided to flash back to dxjf4. And of course, that successfully happened but now..... the applications that i want on dxjf4 are gone. So it is easily concluded that the modem and csc aren't changed and are still using the dxjg4 version's.
Now if anyone could post up links on dxjf4's full firmware (pda, modem, csc) it would be much appreciated. (The singtel (a carrier of singapore) version i mean)
Thanks.
I wish I can help you but like you my Telco Optus (singtel) also only released a new Rom recently and without csc or modem file. Why do you need csc anyways? Are you after apps on stock Rom like "my account"? I'm happy with jm5. There's no reason for me to flash stock unless I want warranty
Sent from my Apple Newton 2100
Ask around for the stock apk's for singtel, I'm sure someone has em. Better yet wait for official froyo from singtel
Sent from my Apple Newton 2100
Ok, I may be able to help you now, I found the CSC files you are looking for here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763369
Just get the CSC file and flash with your asian rom. Other then that I can't help you anymore as I can't think of another way except sending it into samsung
solved!
hey ickyboo,
i found the solution and i'm happy with it. My friend managed to get for me the stock apps from singtel, plus i used the full fledge dxjg4 firmware. I'm really happy with the firmware and it is nice and snappy.
Thank you ickyboo, and xda of course.
Hi,
can you share with us the stock apps from SingTel?
Thanks.

Import change to Australian Stock assistance...

Hi all,
New here. Just bought myself a Galaxy S3 (first smartphone). It's a bit tricky to get use too but is fun.
I basically purchased the phone as an import, so it came with French(?) software, though I wanted to change to Australian Firmware. I downloaded the latest Australian Firmware from;
sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&model=GT-I9300&pcode=XSA&os=1&type=1#firmware
along with the "Additional Files" which came with Odin 3.04
I booted the phone into Developer Mode then loaded Odin, left "Auto Reboot" & "F.Reset Timer" checked & other boxes unchecked/unchanged.
The phone detected (0:[COM9]) highlighted in light blue.
I then loaded the downloaded Firmware into 'PDA' section (.tar.md5), then clicked 'START'
The phone and Odin did its thing then 'Green PASS' appeared and phone reset.
I input all the details into the phone and details from *#1234# are as follows;
~~~BEFORE UPDATE~~~ (French stock ?)
AP: I9300XXALEF
CP: I9300XXLEF
CSC: I9300XEFALE1
~~~AFTER UPDATE~~~ (Australian Sotck ?)
AP: I9300XXBLH3
CP: I9300XXLH1
CSC: I9300XSABLH2
Afterwards I went into system settings and did a factory reset. After phone loaded up again, re-did all the details, but, when I went to update (there was a system update available), it failed to update. I loaded Kies and it said "your device does not support software upgrading via Kies". After this, I remembered the PDF Flashguide from sammobile said to Factory Reset using *2767*3855#, which I then did, re-did all the info again. Attempted the update and it seemed to work (unknown if anything was actually installed as it was quite fast). Now Kies says "This is the latest Firmware"...did it work?
If this is all good, what went wrong during this process? (so I know for future reference)
Is there anything I can check to make sure everything else is all good ? I basically want Australian Stock Firmware and don't really want any issues downloading updates via Australian networks.
Another thing, I read a couple times where people are saying UK firmware is 'better'?...something to do with faster updates ??
Sorry for the long post, kinda new and wanted to be clear as possible (noob video told me to ).
Kind Regards,
OZ Thread .

G900F O2 de-branding

Hello pros,
I have a S5 (G900F), bought in Germany that has a provider branding from O2 (VIA) I want to get rid off.
After searching and reading many many many threads I wasn't able to find as "safe" solution. There are some threads, where people were able to flash a stock firmware, but it was BTU. Some managed to flash the DBT, but with errors during procedure, workarounds etc.
Since the key to flash from VIA firmware to another seems always to be the correct PIT file and the PIT files also seem to come from this forum I hope to get some professional help to solve my problem. I've already read enough contradictory statements from people who think they might know something, but I'm looking not for assumption.
Here is data from my S5:
AP: G900FXXU1ANG2
CP: G900FXXU1ANG2
CSC: G900FVIA1ANG1
So I have Android 4.4.2 and would like to flash a 5.0 DBT and to keep the KNOX of course.
1. First I wondering why it not working to flash the DBT fw on a VIA S5 with the "original" DBT PIT? If the VIA phones have a different partition layout the PIT for DBT should solve this or not?
2. The most promising solution seems to be use the DBT (it's not state from which to which version the update was done) with special pit version for s5 (also not clear which one was used). When flashing with Odin at the end always a failure message will be displayed. Then disconnect and reconnect the phone and to flash only the PIT after a restart to wipe all. But as mentioned earlier that doesn't sound like a "safe or proven" solution.
Here is the link-> (German) handy-faq.de/forum/galaxy_s5_original_roms_firmware_kies/306126-samsung_galaxy_s5_branding_entfernen_sm_g900f-18.html#post2926313
3. Suppose I use the solution as described in 2. and flash the first 5.0 version (...BNL9) and then perform a update using the build in updated function on my S5 (no Odin, Kies, etc. ) to the second 5.0 version (...BOB7) will the update clean up the possible mess I've done using the procedure above? Or would it be better to use the Kies software on PC to update from 5.0 to 5.0?
I really appreciate competent help on this (and probably many other in the same situation) and no abuse of this thread for other topics .
As step by step guide with a link to PIT file and tool version info (Odin 3.09 etc.) is very welcome.
Cheers!
Flashing the DBT over an o2 branded device is ok. The upcoming error in the end, related to a to small cache.img ext4 partition comes up because of the comparsion by odin of the is and the has to be partition size.
At this stage the DBT rom at the S5 is not installed, it's like a download only. If you now flash the right *.pit as a next step this will adjust the partition size. The installation afterwards will be work and all is on a clean state. Have done this yesterday here in Germany using before o2 branded S5.

Thank you for the quick reply Endur.
Is there a guide I can follow for the whole procedure (what you did on you phone)? And where can I get the "right" PIT file?
I had some experience flashing a Galaxy S1, so I know this might be tricky and would like to avoid any possible heart attacks during the procedure .
Thanks in advance.
Flash bob7 DBT using Odin (I have used 3.10).
After that you will get the failed message because of wrong partition size.
Unplug USB cable.
Plug USB cable.
Flash *.pit (European for G900F 16GB)
You will get a note now about adjusted partions. The installation of bob7 DBT will start now (you see the green Android spinning). You may wipe cache and data as last step.

Alright, with mental support of Endur and some courage I just de-branded my phone by updating it from VIA (O2) 4.4.2 (G900FXXU1ANG2) to no branding (DBT) 5.0 (G900FXXU1BOB7). I've used Odin 3.10 and Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones 1.5.51.0.
The flashing procedure is basically as described in many other posts, so I don't want to create a copy of a copy. Please take a look for yourself.
Instead I will only add the steps required for O2/VIA de-branding with my experience.
As Endur mentioned the first step with Odin doesn't flash but "copy" the firmware to the phone. Due to different partition layout Odin will show an error. Remove the USB cable and replug it while Odin is still running. Remove the check from "AP" (former PDA) in Odin, select correct PIT, check "Re-Partition" in Odin and press "Start". Now comes the excitement moment. My phone got stack showing Android, powered by Google etc. I had to remove the battery, boot into recovery an wipe data and cache. So it seems to be a must instead of may.
I've used the SM-G900F_pit_16GB.zip (for German / DBT version) from forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2737448
Good luck!
Yes, wipe data and cache is a good idea while updating from Android 4.2 up to 5.
There is a lot different for data, Dalvik was changed to ART and much, much more.
I had updated from BTU BNL9 to DBT BOB7 only. The DBT requires the greater partition size for hidden.img while BTU can be flashed without any partition change to a formerly German o2 branded device.

[Q] SM-N910H CSC Change without Root

Hi, I have SM-910H with ACR CSC. I have tried flashing multiple Stock Roms but CSC does not changes. I have factory reset multiple times. Also I have tried below mentioned method multiple times but no avail. If anyone has been successfully change CSC on 910H without root, kindly help me out.
1. Run and configure Odin. Do NOT check “Re-Partition” and “Auto Reboot” check boxes.
2. Load the stock firmware in the PDA button.
3. Set the phone in download mode (Volume Down+Home+Power button). Then connect the phone in your computer.
4. Hit the “Start” button and then wait.
5. Once the flashing successfully completed. Do NOT let it reboot into the normal mode.
6. Reboot into recovery mode (Volume Up+Home+Power button).
7. See if it’s applying the CSC file then wait until it finishes and reboot.
8. If you do not see the CSC installation, instead choose the “Wipe data/Factory reset”. Then repeat flashing the stock firmware. You may then achieved the CSC code flashing the stock firmware on the second attempt.
10. Confirm the CSC code by using Kies 3 or by downloading Phone INFO ★Samsung★ and see if the CSC code has changed.

Find & flash single country csc instead of multi csc, once it's changed to single country csc, flash again as per your requirements.

Thanks for the advice. I can try that. Can you point out any 910H firmware that is single CSC. Also can you tell how to check from downloaded firmware that it is whether single CSC or multi CSC.
I used to flash Singapore rom when I was facing problem like u r facing but i don't know about your model, there was a thread in note 3 forum mentioning this.
Note 3 thread for csc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2666907
i don't mean to hijack the thread but i am on the same boat with n910f (not rooted).
I have a warranty appointment (battery drain) and wish to flash back to stock. I purchased my phone sim free from Switzerland and i am in the UK. however i tried lollipop German rom (and sadly did not record my csc, i am a noob) and have now downgraded to UK rom to test battery drain issue for a day or two. I now wish to revert back to stock. my phone id csc related fields are as below.
original csc code: BTU
firmware csc: AUT
active csc code: BTU / AUT
csc country iso: CH
which rom should i flash to and back. Also considering the german lollipop rom data has completely gone from the csc which i flashed to the UK rom afterwards will it be safe to flash to it without auto reboot and then flash back to AUT swiss rom. i'd rather not have to set up my device again . and any comments on Warranty things / recommendations i need to take care of before my appointment
thnx
*********my solution ---------
I reset to factory default , installed lollipop rom, reset to factory default, booted lollipop, reset to factory default again, flashed swiss image , reset to factory default and everything was back to stock

This shouldn't be a problem so let me help. First some questions...
1. From which carrier/country is your phone?
2. Does it have a network lock?
3. Is it the Model number SM-G950F?
4. Which files did you flash via Odin (please type the actual filenames) and with which settings in Odin?
5. If you go into Settings - About phone - Software information - Service provider software. Please tell me the first and third line there under this point.

Hi,
1. Bought from Vodafone UK
2. Removed lock by code
3 G950F
4 Sorry don't have access to my laptop now but I've
Downloaded latest btu software from sammobile
unpacked it and used as per instructions. Tried using either home_csc or the other one but no luck either
Settings tried just standard and tried pit and reformat didn't work either
5. SAOMC_SM-G950F-OXM_XEU_077
XEU/XEU/VOD
when go into recovery it's still VOD tho
You have done all you could do.
You needed to flash with normal CSC NOT with HOME_CSC to change the CSC.
Your new CSC is XEU!
It still shows XEU/XEU/VOD because VOD is the original CSC of your phone. This is new for the S8 and could not be changed! But normally you will get OTA updates for your new XEU CSC just fine! And any Vodafone-Apps should also be removed.
So everything is like on Samsung devices debranded bevore - beside that the factory CSC is hard branded inside the phone. But thats just optical. Everything else works like it is an XEU CSC.

Are you sure about that? In the past if you didnt change properly the CSC after unbranding your phone you werent getting OTA updates anymore, i've read on SamMobile you gotta use Smart Switch using the serial number of a phone you know has that CSC, but i dont know how to find one, no one answered me on here. I'm thinking of going into a store and look at the exhibition one, but im afraid it's not legal to do that.
