I've spent most of the last week researching android units and it can be a real headache. I thought I'd come to the headquarters of android knowledge and see if anyone could give me some direction.
I'm looking for a universal fit double din android 8.0 unit that is capable of flashing Malaysk ROMs for PX5. I've found a few but none that have all the features I want, or at least don't have them listed. I don't care whether it has a disk drive or not but I would really like wireless android screen mirroring, rca output for 5 channels and an internal dsp that offers time alignment. I would also prefer a 6.5 to 7 inch screen for flush mounting in my car. I've managed to find a unit I liked, the EONON GA2171S, which has everything I want but it says it requires usb for screen mirroring with android phones. I'm not even sure if it will work with the firmware either. Any advice would be appreciated.
Suggest posting in malaysk forums or MTCD q&a.

Everything's working fine for the most part but I want to root it to fix a few minor inconveniences. Pretty much the same issues most people have around here(connect to my OBD2 bluetooth device, map steering wheel buttons for 3rd party applications, etc) but I can't find any information on how to root it or even any ROMs for this head unit or it's CPU.
Does anybody know If/how I can root this or even install a new ROM (I don't mind either one)?
Thinks in advance.

You can install any of the pre-rooted ROMs that match up to your CPU(RK3188) and screen resolution(800x480).

Thanks for your reply. I had seen that thread before but didn't see any ROMs for RK3188. There are some in the repos mentioned there but the rooted ones are either for RK3066 or just don't say which CPU they're for. The closest I've found is on the list of Boo's ROMs on the Custom section of the Google Drive repo which says it's KK4.4.4 and rooted but it doesn't say if it's for RK3066 or RK3188. Am I missing something?
Also, I don't know yet if my unit is KGL, Klyde, RoadMaster, GS, JY or MD yet. For what I gather from your post, I can install any ROM as long as it's for the right CPU so, Assuming Boo's ROMs are for RK3188, I don't need to bother checking which kind of unit I have, am I right?

Make sure you match up your CPU(RK3188) and screen resolution(800x480) and you will be fine!
Same for me with the GF. I'll try Malaysk's ROM tomorrow and see how it goes.

the KD-C0410 model uses a DUAL CORE Processor RK3066, you can't use RK3188 ROM's, the RK3188 is a QUAD CORE processor.
in this thread you can find all the development for the RK3066 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660662
also remember that most of Pumpkin stereos are made by KLYDE, so you will not find the name Pumpkin look by KLD

That's exactly what I ended up doing. Malaysk's ROM has been working fine so far since I flashed it on saturday and I was able to change/fix everything I needed.
thanks!
Do any of you know if the ram can be upgraded in these Chinese head units? I know inside the Joying head unit there is what looks like a ddr3 ram slow. I am unsure if the Pumpkin variant has one as well.
If it does, in theory it should be able to be upgraded.
I asked the Pumpkin Auto people if this was possible and they said no. I am thinking they may have said this cause the want the buyer to buy the ram from them instead of using a 3rd party stick of ram.
Anyone care to weigh in on this?
please delete, sorry

Hi everyone!
I have the specific device with 5.1 installed:
Pumpkin Universal 7 Inch 1024*600 Android 5.1 Touchscreen Quad Core Double Din Car Stereo GPS Navigation System support DAB+ AV Output 3G Wifi OBD2 Steering Wheel Control - SKU: 11-RQ0264E-US-A
I saw an updated version of android 6:
Pumpkin 7" Touchscreen Quad-core Android 6.0 Marshmallow 2 Din Car Stereo & RAM 2GB 1024*600 AV Output Bluetooth 4.0 Steering Wheel Control OBD2 WIFI/3G internet - SKU: CN01-02202B
And this one, also with 1 GB ram as mine:
Pumpkin Android 6.0 Universal Car DVD Player/stereo/radio - SKU: CN10-02201B-US-A
What options do I have to update, either to android 6 (at least, if not to 7) to manufacturers version (perhaps the rom of the second one?) or which are my option in general so to update to newer android version?
Thanks in advance!
Any root for pumpkin 7.1 2g ram 32g ROM ultra Octa Core thanks
Looking for a pre-rooted ROMs that match up to your CPU(RK3188) and screen resolution(800x480). All the links I click on are dead. Can someone send me a working like it would be appropriated greatly..
thanks
I currently have a Kenwood KVT614 head unit that I hate with a passion. I can't stand the useless screen (without apps it really serves no purpose), the navigation software and about everything.
As a result I am considering switching the head unit out and I love the idea of something running android.
My car is an electric car and it only has a single DIN slot, so I am somewhat constrained in my choices.
Ideally I am looking for an android head unit that covers the following:
- Can run android apps, e.g. navigation (both offline and online via the phone)
- Tethering - I read that some headunits have issues with Bluetooth tethering which is obviously much better for phone battery
- Having an electric car, I actually want the headunit to turn OFF (not sleep) when the car is off
- Screen size: not too big - probably 6-7 inches or I saw some "very wide" widescreens at 8.8 inches that would fit well
- I also like the idea of screen mirroring or android auto (and carplay) working but I would very much prefer for this to work via wireless (not some stupid cable)
- power consumption would ideally be as little as possible with this being in an electric car ...
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I have been looking at some of Joying units, since they seem to be the most modern android head units with 4GB RAM, 32 or 64GB storage and running Android 8.0 or 8.1 …
Would love to get some feedback.
And how do I determine whether a head unit is a MTCB or MTCD, or whatever?
Is there a database or list somewhere? Does this no longer apply to new headunits?
It's too bad there is no sticky or wiki with recommendations and some guides.
Once you know your board (MTCx) there is some decent info, but for someone looking for a single DIN headunit there current forum setup is pretty useless.
No one helps here much.
The new joying intel based units have a new dsp chip that will blow everything out of the water in android platforms. I ordered on last week. Will be doing a review on it by next weekend hopefully
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a used 2010 Prius with an android HU. It's unbranded (noname) and pretty weak (1gb ram). I could live with the android performance issues but the microphone is driving me crazy. Nobody can hear what i'm saying. The unit has an external mic and i wanted to upgrade it to a different one but for some reason, the mic that's connected to the HU has 5 wires (last picture) and the one i ordered only 2 (mono jack). There's also no mic jack. Here are my questions:
1. Is there a way to connect a different mono mic?
2. Does anyone have any idea what unit this is and where i can find a wiring diagram?
3. Can you recommend a better unit? I like the ones that look more like stock, with physical buttons.
4. Any known fix for the error in the picture? "Software has not been authorized legally" when trying to use Easyconnect to mirror my phone.
I need any info i can get, you don't have to have all the answers
Thanks!
I googled "Sp9853i_1h10_vmm" (taken from one of your photos). Turned up quite a few results. I have not had experience with that particular unit but maybe might turn up some useful information for you perhaps.
Not an MTCD, requesting mod moves to [Android Head units] forum.

Thanks for the reply. I've done that first the problem is there are multiple manufacturers with multiple configurations. I contacted Seicane and am still in the process of identifying the unit/software with them but the back and forth is pretty slow..
This is not your "standard" moddable unit, I'm afraid. Most information here and on forums like 4PDA is on units based on 2 main technologies:
1. 8227L Mediatek, system: YT921xx
2. Rockchip PX3, PX5, PX6, PX30 based on MTCx chip.
By having a quick look at what you got, the mic is the least of your problems. These units are packed with so called features but need considerable hardware and software modding to make them work and even excel.
Here is an example of one such modded units, started off as cheap £70 Android, and ended up performing on par with luxury Android units. The video shows the mods, just to give you an understanding.
To save you time, invest in a Dasaita MTCE unit as that one requires least mods to perform well. You can find them for around £200 on AliExpress. Good luck!
Thanks for the info. I'll look into one of the PX chips and go for dasaita.
so i've found a single Dasaita unit for Prius G3 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001625066855.html?spm=a2g0s.8937460.0.0.20fa2e0eCiCqeA
The problem is i can't find this model on Dasaita website or store and i'm not sure it's real. I've emailed Dasaita but no reply..
There are multiple units from diferent brands (Ownice, Wondefoo..). Can i go for one of those? What should i look for?
Some sellers list the "K6 plus" version as the top of the line. Should i still go for PX6 or is that better?
Hi all,
Some time ago I found a thread on here that directed people how to reimage the head unit with an Android Auto. Is this possible for all head units, or are there things to watch out for? I tried searching but could not find the relevant info(Could be on me).
If I go into About Device of the Head Unit all it shows me RK3368 as name, no more info. All I can find is a thread how to update a headunit with the PX5 to Android 10, which it is already running. If possible I'd really like to flash Android Auto on it, as the current solution feels a bit like a bandaid solution.
Bump
Found some more info. It's a S32F0 MCU, with a PX5 board.
Still trying to figure out if it's MTCB or MTCD and if I can flash Android Auto on it. Any help would be appreciated

Okay so here is an obvious question - why on earth would you put Android Auto on a real Android device? Android Auto is a scaled down version of true Android with some "lite" functionality and support for some basic apps. Android Auto is for those who (for some reason) can't install a proper Android Head Unit.
To put it simply, you can do everything on your Android that you can on Android Auto but not the other way around.
You have S32F0 as MCU, meaning it's not MTCx. Luckily for you, you can still use the only mod that matters - Malaysk. Forget anything else. With Malaysk you can customize your head unit with nearly no limitations to make it fast, user friendly and overall just awesome.
Go to this thread and follow it's instructions.

Hi Ice,
Thank you for you answer!
My main reason is the ability to mirror screen. I don't have a 4G dongle attached to my radio, as that is quite expensive over here. So I was thinking to be able to use my own phone as mirror onto the radio to navigate, play spotify etcetera.
For example I can copy my phonebook to the head unit, unfortunately both me and my wife use the car, which causes a very long contact list with duplicates etc.
What I've seen with friends is that Android Auto fixes some of those issues, as you don't run a seperate instance of the phonebook or whatever, but it's a mirror from your phone.
I've seen Malaysk's post, but also read in the thread there are quite some issues and support is flaky at best. Are those posts stirring sh*t for no reason, or do they have a point?
Finally, the seller claims my headunit is real Android 10, with build number 205150. I cannot find anywhere if this is real Android 10, or the so called fake android 10.

Mirror screen functionality on Android Head Units is shaky at best.
You don't need 4G dongle - hotspot from your phone to give access to the Internet on your head unit - that way you can run any Android app on the head unit, Spotify, YouTube, Internet Radio etc etc. Make sure to give full permissions to your phone
Use BlueTooth on your phone to use handsfree calling. Use Google Voice to dial any number (no need to mess with Contact Books), your wife can do the same and your Android Head Unit will not sync contacts back to your phone
I know Malaysk developer as I'm also a Russian-speaker and his work is exemplary. If anything, his firmware is by far more stable and effective compared to anything you get from factory. People who complain about it, simply do not have the right skills of installing it and using it. Spend some time with Malaysk tutorials - well worth it. Malaysk also offers ROOT natively and Viper4Android which means you can tweak most parameters on your head unit and considerably improve the sound in your car.
Doesn't matter what Android version you have. You should go with Malaysk firmware for Android 9 (most stable). You will need to get a "rollback" software to successfully install it if your Android is anything but version 9. For that you'll need to purchase MOD Installer Pro 2 for €10
Whatever is possible to do your Android Head Unit will only be possible with Malaysk. If Malaysk can't support it, then it's simply not doable.
You can also look into "profiles" on your Head Unit. I.e one profile will have your stuff, and the other one will have your wife's.
A couple of years ago I bought this head unit for my F10 BMW:
12.3 inch Bigger Stand Screen... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08KZXG42G?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I am not a fan of the interface and there are a bunch of issues as well. I would like to install another rom but I am not sure what I should be looking for. First, are there even roms for this head unit/processor? Second, is it worth it or will it just inject more issues? I have installed roms on quite a few devices but never a head unit. Thanks!
Try searching forums for prefix of MCU version, or posting details of Android system information including MCU version
I have the same situation. Do I need to change the whole headunit for android 12 or is it possible to update this unit?
