What I immediately notice on Max 3, coming from Max 2 - Xiaomi Mi Max 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Maybe you can use this as a consideration to retire your Max 2 or Max 1.
I'm just going to give my thoughts on hardware wise, but not the cameras as I couldn't care less about them.
Pros:
Screen quality to my naked eye is much better than Max 2, (I'm more of a warm tone screen kind of guy) Max 2 has a really bluish tint, whereas Max 3 has more natural colour , less shifting too.
Dual speakers are noticeably better, especially the earpiece one. (More surroundy and louder)
Equal size top and bottom bezels, finally!
More screen real estate with virtually the same body footprint (duh)
Cons:
Protruding screen off the unibody, not noticeable when you slapped on some TPU case, but still pretty annoying
Buttons are not as tactile as the Max 2.
Is it worth the upgrade? IMHO, hell yes!
Xiaomi really did well with this phone, really big but subtle upgrade from Mi Max 2.
Big screen, long endurance. The "dual" speakers and headphone jack are the icing on top.
Look for photo to see how much screen estate you'll get (both on the same 289 density)

it has the Built-in Full screen gesture.
For me, I rooted and am using the Oneplus Gesture app. Much better than the built-in one.
Btw, still waiting for your awesome rom for MM3, bro :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

It has MIUI inbuilt gesture navigation but it's a bit annoying and half baked, I'm using GMD Gesture to get my own desired gestures.
Can't really say anything good on MIUI 10, the vanilla 8.1 has much better UX

How about temperature of Max 3 over Max 2 esp when charging or full load ( gaming )?

Sorry, I don't play games on my phone so I wouldn't know. Expect the same experience if not better, they're both using the same manufacturing process anyway

Use the front-facing camera much?
So I'm in the USA, and I see a Galaxy S-like device called the captivate coming to AT&T...
I see the AT&T version has no flash and no front-facing camera. Does anyone use the front-facing camera much? If so, what for? Self pics/mirror or actual video conversations?
Any other differences between the Galaxy S (as on Samsung's web-site) and the Captivate?
Thanks,
Manos
Depends on your situation whether you'll be using the front-facing camera for video chats or whatnot. I personally wouldn't use the front camera for much since not many people I know have front facing cameras, too and I don't really care for it.
The only difference we can see so far is a different phone design, missing front camera, and apparently the AT&T version gets a gyroscope/six-axis motion sensor aimed at gaming. The AT&T version is also a 16gb base handset but you can add a microSD card for a maximum of 32gb.
Overall, I'm looking forward to the AT&T version although I'm bummed they scrapped the front-facing camera because of principle (Competition is too close for iPhone).
What power widget is that in the center?
ooh..no led notifications??
i was expecting the little strip above the word samsung to have leds??
Actually the phone has 384000 tiny LEDs. Do you want more?
Now seriously: Since AMOLEDs only consume energy when used, it would be great if the screen (in standby) could show some small visual notification. Are you listening Samsung?

Nexus 4 Display

I have a Nexus 7 thinking about a Nexus 4. Do you loose about .3" of display diagonal because of lower 3 key area like you do on the N7? So the 4.7" display is really only 4.4" usable? I also thinking about a Note II, you get a full 5.5".
The Nexus 4 is fine. The screen is rather large. It's quite the same size as the GS3.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I think most of us ditch the navbar at the earliest opportunity and claim the full 4.7" back.
Then use 'pie' controls of some sort or 'button saviour', where you slide you finger/thumb from your chosen area of screen to bring up navigation controls... even though i explained it badly it works well.
I just placed an order for the nexus 4 and I kinda had the same concern. I get what you mean by sliding from the edge of the screen to bring up nav menu. Could you please provide some links to help me look into it more?
Thanks

I used GMD Gesture Control to remove the soft keys and notification bar at top. This app also lets you assign an easy gesture or screen swipe to replace the back and home keys. It's awesome https://play.google.com/store/apps/...nb29kbW9vZGRyb2lkLmdlc3R1cmVjb250cm9sZGVtbyJd
I also use Nova Launcher Prime and the Tesla Unread add-on that tells me when I've missed a call or text on screen. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDMsImNvbS50ZXNsYWNvaWxzdy5ub3RpZmllciJd
Lastly, I use Battery widget reborn Beta to check on my battery life at a glance. https://play.google.com/store/apps/...m5ldC5odWJhbGVrLmFuZHJvaWQucmVib3JuLmJldGEiXQ..
With all of this stuff I linked, you can free up your screen real estate and never miss a step.

its a weird trend. i mean who cares really. youre loosing a couple of pixels so what. android is programmed to take them away anyway when needed, the bar will change position, make way or disappear completely when needed. its flexible. whats more important, its made for fast mavigation, it feels natural the way it is and google had that in mind for sure.
i've always felt that navigation on hardware crippled phones feels awkward, its like out of place. buttons are not placed where you can reach them, they're hidden away to make way for a monstrous display and that will diminish your experience. software buttons give you both, large screen when needed and fast, integrated navigation that is part of the whole.
ps.
as for your n7, theres so many options. gesture based, pie, or androids native UI's. i run my n7 in phone UI for instance which does wonders. the bar will nicely cling to the side in landscape orientation. if you use tabUI the space that you loose is minimal, the same actually as with a hardwarebutton device - one unified bar. its available for phones as well and works just as well
Moles is right. As cool as pie controls are, I prefer googles on screen implementation for general usage because its fast, responsive and convenient.
However it is nice to have the full 4.7 inches while using certain apps like games, readers, gallery etc. Flash a ROM that supports expandable desktop like PA and you can customize the screen real estate per app, to your liking.

Sense 5.5 - More then meets the eye

So I updated my One to the leaked builds and all I can say is wow. I saw The Verge review about the One Max and they downplayed the updates in 5.5 but I am amazed by the refinements. Here are some of the top ones
The already stellar Gallery got better. Sliding tabs, easy editing of Video Highlights, folders are beautifully designed, no more switching between events view and album view.

The new 360 Camera walks circles around photosphere. I took a quick shot in my hallway and it was perfect. The camera sound is also more refined.
Full lock screen widget support (that recognize its not the primary screen so they are automatically expanded.. YAY)
Blink feed has been updated in numerous ways, I particularly enjoy the screen while it is personalizing.. I will update a pic from my One in a bit. G+ integration throughout, GDrive backup support (instead of just Dropbox)
Edit: you can also add your preferred Read it Later application to add from blinkfeed... Beautifully done HTC.
Editable quick settings with interchangeable tabs and buttons
Refined weather app & new scribble app.
Those are just some of the features I noticed. Maybe Google should invest in HTC purely for the screens they have and the software enhancements. Vanilla Android would be so much more easy to swallow if they included a gallery and enhancements like HTC did.. oh yeah, one more thing...... its smoother then butter, throughout the OS
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk 4
And also may I add:
-Native option for 5x6 grid in the App drawer
-Memory optimizations (more free ram)
-Better auto focus in low light (the led lights before focusing)
-Better keyboard with improved autocomplete and a s**tload of new emoticons
-Refined Music app
-New widgets (try out the big music widget - awesome)
*At some point I was informed though Blinkfeed that I am eligible for an extra 40 gigs in Gdrive, but I couldnt make it work
And possibly many more hidden (the more I fiddle with it the more I find)
The only thing I miss are the different lock screen styles.
Ps. You should really really try the scribble app. Tons of options and fun, especially with a stylus
Another great option... The ability to Hide apps in the app drawer on stock Sense

The TV app has been improved greatly. You don't have to go in to the menu anymore for the power toggles. They are accessed by swiping across the screen. Also the layout on the ch/vol screen is a lot better. The overall feel of the software is better too as there is also more memory available If it performs like this on the Max the 600 processor is more than adequate. HTC has really optimized sense to the processor really well. Since owning the device I have seen hardly if any lag.

Not a new feature (had it with base 3.22 Sense 5 as well), but still awesome.
Yeah I'm loving Sense 5.5 as well. I honestly hate BlinkFeed and I love that I can turn it off without a third party app now. Too bad it didn't fix the camera.

Can we all agree ? The Screen is FANTASTIC! (And here's some videos to prove it)

Just wanted to voice how great this screen really is! I'm a G3, Note 3, S5, S4, Note 2 -
I was so excited for the G3 and then the screen on that thing had no VIVID colors! What a huge disappointment - it went back.
If you'd like to see how great this screen really is, TURN up the brightness, go here to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=56100084&postcount=14 and grab those videos!!
Killer!
Samsung and Apple both have the best screens on mobile products. The LG G3's (QHD 2560x1440) screen is amazing but it uses IPS LCD screen while the Galaxy note 4 uses SuperAMOLED 2D screen.
I agree I had g3 and fixed my self to like it this screen blows it out the water

To be fair, the colors on Samsung devices (by default) are vivid, but not accurate. Not sure how accurate the G3 is, but Apple screens are generally quite a bit more accurate than Samsung screens.
From what I've read the Note 4 has the option to use vivid or accurate color rendering, the accurate is at least as good as the iPhone 6 (plus the option to have the colors really pop.)
im excited to see screen today!!! g3 has good screen i think (thats about it imo though but good screen) so we will see!
So excited!!!!
So which wallpaper will anyone be using? Stock Note 4 or anything you have prepared to use for it? I'm spending so much time browsing 2560x2560 wallpapers but can't really decide which to choose.

Anandtech, Displaymate and others state the color coverage is the best of any device. Depends on the setting. Vivid is still an option.
i do love this screen, but i very slightly see what some people said about the upper right hand portion of the screen having more of a reddish hue than the rest. mine has that, but it's pretty slight and only noticable on white screens like in the menus, so i don't care much. everything else about the phone works perfectly so i'm happy!

Oh wow! I love it. It looks awesome on the Note 4. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. :good: :good:
There appears to be some G3 owners in denial that their power hogging, low contrast displayed device is better and the N4 is a laggy while the G3 is super fast. This in contradiction of most reviews and my own experience.
G3 is a good device, but the display is a more than usual resource killer.

Petition A protest against Huawei/EMUI's old school Multitasking/recent app menu

many of us have had enough, let's face it the old school kitkat style of Huawei's multitasking/recent apps is a joke and destroy the whole workflow and multitasking of the device
My Plan is to collect as many names as possible and I will send it to Huawei.
What makes me angry is that even Huawei 8 seem to have the same multitasking look.
Vote in the poll and write in the thread what you voted.
THIS is what multitasking on android SHOULD look like.

How does a diffrent launcher help it help nothing at all!
the multitask/recent app button will still lead to the same EMUI based multi task page which looks terrible.
Bad overview and slow, force you to swipe thru pages inastead of see all open tabs in one page in an overview.

Well on the Mate 7 forum 78% does not like the EMUI recent apps multitasking.
Well the sad part is there is no easy way to get rid of this EMUI multitasking, a different launcher will not help, if you go thru great pain to root the device and modify the software a lot you can get rid of it, but it is not easy. If it was possible to change with laucnher it wold be no problem, unless you root no matter what you do if you push the multitask/recent apps button it will lead to the EMUI recent app pages, which is usless, the main reason for that it lacks of "overview, only "4 taps" are visible, while with android vanilla way you can over 20 tabs or more visible in just an overview, which is very superior, also it goes a lot faster to swipe thru all tabs, while in the EMUI you have to swipe thru packages, this is typical "chinese brainless" software design. That it looks almost the same for the Mate 8 does make me very angry, this is a dealkiller for me, multi tasking is important, I used the LG G3 for 3 months during my Mate 7 was on repair I did really like the standard recent app tabs, it is so superior so much faster and flexible, I have no idea why the chinese do not see this, there is no benifit at all with EMUI's recent apps functionality, it is also to slow and responsive to be useful. it should be fast and snappy as it was on ,y LG G3. Shame on you Huawei...I hope you are reading this.
