I tried popping off the top cover because I thought the temps i'm getting from CPU-z are not accurate.
I was getting around 85 Celsius and more. I tried to touch the processor part and it was really HOT. I can't even put my fingers there for a long time.
Added a ramsink with 3M Thermal transfer tape and a 25mm Nidec 12v dc Fan Temps went down to 45 to 50 Celsius .

Looks pretty neat, congrats! Are you using a wall adapter or the USB port on the TV? Because I am using the TV port and it has a decent temperature, wouldn't say it's more than 40 degrees C.
Why? and why do you have a keyboard with circle keys?
Fire stick cpu cooling project very similar
Similarly I also designed a way to cool the fire stick, but without using a heatsink.
The normal temperature after a few minutes of use was 81 degrees centigrade, now no higher than 60 degrees. With this I can always keep all the processing fluid, avoiding the slow and possible locks.
Below are the images.
Hope this helps.

Sorry guys, but the system was not allowing me to send the 3 photos in one post. These are more to collaborate with anyone who wants to install a cooler on Amazon Firestick ... hugs from Brazil !!!

Anyone know what the purpose of the copper shielding is? Is that designed to help spread heat or rf interference or what?
Mine doesn't heat at all.

It is a heatsink which is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from the circuitry to air so it is away from the stick. These are used in almost all electronic devices.

I'm still laughing at myself...check it out...a large binder clip makes a great display stand with charging functionality. Just pull off the squeezing clips after you clamp down on the USB plug. It's actually pretty stable too. I'm sure you could even velcro it to your desk for more stability

Ciao
Fred
F**k me! That's great!
Can't beat that.... +1
nice, now if only my girlfriend would let me make a hole in the desk to make it look built-in!!
excellent...works perfect!
ha just did it, thanks!
As clever as it is,... be prepared to find a replacement socket for your phone after a while. The connector can not handle the stress of supporting it's own weight for very long.
You should try to find a way to support the phone along with the plug-in.
This is, however, a good start to a generic cradle.
Fun find!

the phone rests on the clip... what you talking about?
What about front to back movement?
Subtle movment wears on the connector circuit board.
thats what i mean... the front and back of mine rests on the clip. i have the rubberized snap case on so maybe my fitment is different.
I have just bought the clip and the "poor´s guy cradle"is just great! no problems here. Great idea!
Amazing found !!!

I will pay you $5 for this brilliant item!!!
Thinking outside the box. Great idea. As far as wear and tear, I think as long as you make sure you are putting the weight on the paper clip and not the device I wouldn't think there would be any problems even long term? I would go the extra length to cover the metal around the clip with something, wouldn't be hard, I don't like anything metal touching my phone. Heck, I haven't even set my phone down on a hard surface yet in fear the back diamond points will wear.
My only question right now is: I wonder how good it would work if I clipped in the dongle so I can have earphones connected for radio, and still charge it through ac, hmm and what would happen if you plug in the usb cable to the side of the dongle? Would you still be able to access it from a computer while its charging through ac or no?
Just did this mod.. Works great... Using the "handles" squeezed into the base works to stabilize the phone better when pulling it off the charging station . I will need to find some simple padding to rest the weight of the phone since it floats a bit over the clip..
... and I always thought I'm CHEAP ...
hey guys, was doing some wifi syncing, went for a shower, came back, screen was off but the battery was at 1% hehe, i plugged the charger in and this is what came up:

strange right? i then unplugged the charger and put it back in, it was back to normal..
but heres the temps... temps are legit, the phone was cool to the touch (and i know what warm is! )

I've had this issue too. The other day my phone was at 52degrees whilst charging.
Someone suggested the cases may be to blame. I use a gel skin but have sent for the official case.

yeah, but the temperatures are cooler than normal? :S, it NEVER hits below 29.0C ...
Today is a hot day, and my phone is at 32 degrees whatsapping online for 20 minutes. But playing games it jumps to 40-45, really painful to receive a call after that. I hope they can lower the CPU speed when it gets hot, that way it won't create as much heat or something. I don't know.
I am having this same issue on my Galaxy Tab

Painful as in burning your ears or any other issues we should be aware of ? We should issue a warning: "Don't play games when you expect a call" or get yourself a personalized voicemail message: Hi, i'm playing games on my phone right now and my battery temp is >50C, there's no way in hell i will reply to any call
argh, i gotten this popup too when i tried to charge my phone. wasn't doing anything with the phone!
@OP Sorry, out of topic question. What is the widget that monitor your cpu speed+ temperature?
Setcpu I believe.

My adonit jot stylus works wonderfully for me. I can make very detail hand written notes. Here is a sample.

I have a friend who's got a TF and he's interested in the stylus. I let him borrow mine and for some damn reason half of the screen at random places won't respond. At first, we thought it was his screen, so I let him use my TF. Same thing. So, I used the stylus with his TF and it works wonderfully.
I know the capacitive touchscreen responds to a person's electrostatic charge. Does this mean this guy's electrostatic charge is weak?
Very interesting thread it has been proposed that different people have a different charge or a greater or lesser capacity for storing or discharging that energy. There is even a video on youtube of a Buddhist monk who can channel hes electro static capacity to such an extend he can cook a fish with a metal bar and hes two hands connected at each end :O
I think its very possible that your friend could have a weak charge. You could try measure the electro static charge you both have i think they did it on myth busters or something one time when i was watching discovery channel and found one person had more electro static potential then the other.
That is... really interesting. Could be a conductivity thing, maybe your skin is more moist and conducts better than your friend?
i think the show was Stan Lee's Super Humans. Some guy in India could conduct electricity through his body without getting zapped. He found out when he tried to kill himself and it didn't work, lol.
I found that a carrot stick works well a stylus.
I suggest you to replace your freind with another one who has better elctrostatic field energy man..

But this guy is so hot and a fellow geek... hard to find them in such a package... lol
Tell him to eat more fiber and drink more water. That will help flush the toxins out of his body allowing his energy to flow more naturally.
He has to keep his palm off the screen while writing with the pen

All, just FYI.. I was talking with datagutt and he mentioned that he needed to send back his controller due to a sharp edge on the metal face plate cutting into the left joystick. I took a look at mine and its doing the same thing his was and I hardly use the controller (i'm in adb most of the time!). I would advise to sand down or otherwise blunt the sharp edge before the cut gets too deep if this is happening to you.
This is mine after hardly any use.
http://imgur.com/aw1GAlz
edit: thank datagutt I would never had looked at mine until he said something...
Thanks for the heads up!!
I will report back once i get my new controller.
I took a look at my joysticks and the same exact thing is happening! It's on both joysticks but much more pronounced on the left which makes sense because it gets used more. What would be the ideal way to smoothen the joysticks cradle?

I've taken a look at both of my controllers as well and exactly the same only 1 day usage... I've actually taken the magnetic covers off and used them to cut down on wear and tear however.... After about 30 minutes playing Shadow gun, its starts wearing down the underside of the stick :S either way its going to destroy them. But you can order new ones which at least is a work around as they can be replaced. Saw a video on YouTube about a controller stick mod.
Ideally what they would have been better with was a small aluminium ring just under the rim so its metal on metal and not so much wear and tear.
Not a big deal, but the quality is an issue for sure. Take note Ouya for controller MkII

Hopefully this isn't the case with all controllers. Would suck. Although I doubt it would get too deep.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I don't see this as a big deal its not like you can saw the stick in two.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I've checked mine and also is visible the mark. I hope that the movement stick is limited before by the own mechanmism than the metallic ring, and do not saw the stick...
It is the same on My Controller and it seems to be a production failure that occurs on every controller.
It's just sloppy crafted.
I took some 400K Sandpaper and deburred it myself. I also took the pad apart and applied some Grease on the triggers. So that they feel a lot smoother and the "grinding-noise" stopped.
At first touch the gamepad feels realy good, but if you take a closer look it's just poor craftsmanship.
Is the plastic part massive or hollow where this happens?
I only used AnTuTu stability test running at the same time on a wooden surface with my 2 year old Xperia Z1 and brand new Xperia Z5.
The phone with alarm clock and vibrate icon are the Z1, Z5 is the other with the no sim card icon. (Z1 left, Z5 right)

The Z5 runs about 5c hotter on average, and you can definitely feel it too, but it isn't uncomfortable by any means. So yeah SD810 runs quite a bit hotter than the SD800.
But how about SoC/CPU temperature? I reckon those numbers are battery temperature becouse the SoC/CPU gets noticably hotter for both phones under load. My Z1 SoC/CPU gets around 55 degrees viewing 1080p60 Youtube with several third party persistent apps in the background working. I think thermal range before throttling is 75 degrees.

Ahh, probably was the battery temp but neither phone was that hot, the Z5 was hot by the camera but not how some people (samsung fanboys) describe it. In the winter it would be pretty nice to hold.

Yeah seems like normal temperatures for battery under load and the Z5 comes with dual heat-pipes to spread out the heat from the center to the inner frame and aluminium frame. It's good to keep them as cool and/or spread out the heat as much as possible not only due to the components in itself and perfomance but also becouse heat makes photos come out noiser as a warmer sensor produces more noise than when cooler. Samsung fanboys are much like Apple fanboys, overly aggressive to make inferior products look superior by going full retard and they might even "buy" the rival product just to slander it. So just to ignore those and spend your time on quality stuff instead.
