[GUIDE] Add "Shot ON MI" watermark to photos taken by GCam - Xiaomi Mi Note 3 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello guys, we all know Google Camera is better than the MIUI Camera 999999999 times . But you can take photos with "SHOT ON MI" watermark only on MIUI Camera. So that's very bad for us. But I will show how to add "SHOT ON MI" watermark to photos taken by Google Camera (or another camera app).
REQUIREMENTS:
- PicsArt
- A root explorer [or you can just download the required .png file (ONLY FOR MI NOTE 3): https://i.hizliresim.com/PDdlV6.png ]
- A brain
STEPS:
1- Open your root explorer and go to /system/etc. Find the dualcamera.png and copy it to your storage (or just download it if you have Mi Note 3. If you have another Xiaomi device, you must get it from the path I gave.)
2- Open PicsArt (login or register if you're going to use it first time)
3- OK. Now you're at the homepage of the app. Go to your profile. (It should look like this: )
https://i.hizliresim.com/r14JJ3.jpg
4- Create a sticker:
https://i.hizliresim.com/0zXGRL.jpg
5- Now you're at the photo selection tab. Tap to "Recent":
https://i.hizliresim.com/NDXOLL.jpg
6- Tap to "More":
https://i.hizliresim.com/nldJy5.jpg
7- Tap to "Other":
https://i.hizliresim.com/2adEPL.jpg
8- Select the "dualcamera.png" that you copied to your storage with a file manager:
https://i.hizliresim.com/b61LEG.jpg
9- Tada! Your watermark is right here. It should look like this:
https://i.hizliresim.com/r14Jp1.jpg
10- Select all of the picture by swiping across it (like a brush tool). It'll become reddish. After that, tap to next button. (It should look like this: )
https://i.hizliresim.com/GD7ygv.jpg
11- Select all of the picture again with the brush at the bottom. And tap to save. (It should look like this: )
https://i.hizliresim.com/Bzny59.jpg
(before the selection)
https://i.hizliresim.com/1EbGAD.jpg
(after the selection)
12- Don't do anything on this tab (just tap to next button):
https://i.hizliresim.com/JD9Ojo.jpg
13- Save the watermark as a sticker:
https://i.hizliresim.com/g6g9BR.jpg
14- Just save it to device:
https://i.hizliresim.com/zMZJXY.jpg
15- Just tap to "Done":
https://i.hizliresim.com/VDOrBv.jpg
Tada! Now you saved the watermark as a PicsArt sticker. Once you save the sticker, you can use it any time when you want. So if you want to add the watermark to a photo, don't create a sticker again and start from the step 16.
In this guide, we will edit this photo taken by Google Camera. Let's go :highfive: :
https://i.hizliresim.com/lZXOpg.jpg
16- When you want to add your "SHOT ON MI" sticker to a photo, tap to "+" button and select edit.
https://i.hizliresim.com/LDMbYa.jpg
17- Select your photo in the photo selection tab and choose the original size of photo if you don't want to lose quality:
https://i.hizliresim.com/EDLPbv.jpg
18- Now you're at the photo editor. Select the sticker option:
https://i.hizliresim.com/oV5OZ7.jpg
19- Tap to "My Stickers":
https://i.hizliresim.com/dBrO0Q.jpg
20- Select your watermark. It's slightly invisible because it's white, but you'll see it if you look again:
https://i.hizliresim.com/VDOrXq.jpg
21- And the watermark is right there! :victory: Adjust its size and position and save it by tapping to next button:
https://i.hizliresim.com/6NBJ97.jpg
(Before adjustment)
https://i.hizliresim.com/AzV1Lp.jpg
(After adjustment)
22- Save the photo by the same way with the sticker's one:
https://i.hizliresim.com/mob2o0.jpg
https://i.hizliresim.com/mob2N8.jpg
https://i.hizliresim.com/VDOrBv.jpg
Tada! Your photo taken by Google Camera with the "SHOT ON MI" watermark is ready! Enjoy it!

Any way to change the resolution of Contact pictures?

When I receive a call or browse through the contacts in the People tab, the pictures are pixelated and rubbish resolution. I've tried replacing them with higher resolution images but to no avail.
Can anyone help me?
Copy the high res photo to your hd and then assign it to a contact. Don't use the image added within outlook. Once you activesync it will replace the image on the server with the new one.

There's also another way, which is by assigning the photo for each contact from HTC Album. As simple as that, when you do that, the resolution from the picture gets improved as the other suggested method!
btw. wat is the square size of the contact pics??
256 X 256 pixels
I took a picture with my HD and applied the same image to my contact and the image is rubbish and pixelated.

It'll never be perfect but by assigning a 256x256 image to a contact through TF3D will give you the best results.
comandersnake instructed you with the simplest way:
1. take a picture, even with 5mpx resolution
2. open album
3. find the respective picture
4. open it
5. pres the pictogram from the lower right corner
6. chose option "save to contact"
7. assign to desired contact
et voila! it works like a charm! you don't have to worry about resolution, dimensions, correction or other things
succes!

This doesn't work with the recent roms from NRG as the whole 'save to contact thing' doesn't work.
Anyone have an alternative method?
Better Picture
Hi !
I think alot of people have the same problem. I maneged to get it in hires when i choose the same picture twice, then it works.
Try that
Regards MacRoy
you can also use s2v to do the same thing..
outlookchas always been the culprit forvthe lores pics, 2007 version doesnt do it anymore, it must allow bigger image files..
in the "newer roms" there should be facility built into the contact app.
try assigning ho you want to assign a pic to as a favourite thrn press right hand soft key to assign a new pic. you can always get rid of them as favourites after

Creating Movie Shortcuts on Android

1. Go to the screen where you want to place the movie shortcut.
2. Find your ES File Explorer App. And open it.
3. Find your folder that has your digital movies and open it.
4. Find the movie you want to create a shortcut with and long press it.
5. Next you will see different options, chose the one that says “Shortcut” it will automatically place it on the screen.
6. Now back all the way out of ES File Explorer until you get to the desktop.
7. Long press the shortcut you just made, and choose edit.
8. You will see a box pop up along with the keyboard. Type the name you want to call it or just delete the file extension example (mp4, etc)
9. Next tap the big icon to change it and choose select picture, then Gallery, then you should see the movie Icon you have downloaded select it then hit OK.
To find the movie icons just do a Google search for the movie (Example: Fast and the Furious 2 icons)
http://www.fanpop.com/spots/the-fast-and-the-furious-movies/images
I always use Fanpop.com and once you get on the movie page there is usually a movie banner at the top of the page and to the left of the banner there is a picture of the movie. Just long press and chose view image, it will open up to a small picture in the upper left hand corner. Long press and choose “Save Image”. It should place it your gallery folder. You should probably do this first before you create shortcuts for your movies.
Good Luck !!

[HOW TO] Multi-page ruled notepad in S-Note

I like S-Note but I couldn't get it to create notes the way I wanted. I wanted a white background page with feintly ruled lines, no margin and with the ability to add new pages to my note without having to manually change the background each time. Attached is a screenshot showing what my standard note page looks like (the righthand scrollbar only shows when the toolbar is open). Also attached is the image file that you can use if you want to create the same standard note on your table. You can edit this image using an image editor if you prefer different coloured lines or want a left margin etc
Instructions:
Copy the RuledPage794x1100.jpg file to your tablet
Open S-Note app and choose Import from the menu (dont press the + sign to create a new note yet)
Choose image file (jpg)
Navigate to where you saved the image and select it
Adjust the crop window that appears to the size of the entire image the press the Save button
Now choose a template to create a new note (I used the Memo template)
The new note opens with the ruled lines as the background
Pressing the + icon at the bottom right adds a new page with the same ruled background to your note - you dont need to manually change the background each time you add a new page
Happy note-taking
Great! Now I know how to make my own templates...
Yours is a great start... better than any of the defaults. I'll be using it till I make my own (with smaller lines).
And much to my delight, I've managed to create a selection of templates that look like real paper and have smaller lines.
Try them out. They feel realy authentic... especially if you use the Pencil instead of Pen and make it only about 2-3 pixels in diameter.
Just follow the procedure in the first post.
Like writing in a real diary.
Edit: Appologies for the wall of images, but for some odd reason I wasn't able to attach any files in any of the reply options...

Cool - the main benefit for me is being able to add extra pages to a note and not have to go and edit the background to what I want every time I add a page. The ring binder effect on your image looks good.
Another way to do it is
1. Open a new note
2. Change the background and pattern to what you want
3. Push the menu button and then select export and then as image file (.jpg)
4. Exit out of the note and from the main note screen push the menu button and select import
5. Select image file (jpg) and then select the note you exported.
6. Fleet a template to save it as and then rename it if you want.
I really like the white background with the smallest lines and don't like having to constantly select change background.

Kia Ora.
I must be missing something, this process gives me a note with the selected background. But it doesn't appear (or i'm doing something wrong) to add 'My new backgrounded Note' to the list of selectable Templates. Does this mean that everytime i want to knock out a note with one of the great backgrounds up above, i need to follow the process starting with Import ??
cheers

Just finished writing how-to on getting custom templates for SNOTE, check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330470.
BTW, thanks to the OP for the inspiration.

Disable brightness slider in notification drop down

Was looking for this for a while and I found the solution in the Note edge forum posted by Skenderbeggar. Basically Samsung removed the option to hide or display the brightness slider, I personally don't use it and think it takes up a lot of space. This should work with all varients.
1. Get SQLite Editor (Does cost $. but you can use it for other things too)
2. Open it, and select the FILES column
3. Scroll to the DATA folder and open it
4. Scroll to the DATA folder within it and open it
5. Scroll to the COM.ANDROID.PROVIDERS.SETTINGS folder and open it
5. Open the DATABASES folder
6. Open the "settings.db "file
7. Click on the "system" file
8. Select "notification_panel_brightness_adjustment" (number 279 on my list)
9. Change the value from 1 to 0.
10. Save, close out and reboot.
Worked, thank u. Was just asking about this on the echo thread. Now to get rid of the stock toggles so I can just have my own from the notification toggle app.
Nice, glad I could pass on some info!

[Guide] Installing GCam on Mi A2 running LineageOs

I've had quite a bit of trouble trying to find a combination of app+config that works well, now that I've found one I figured I would make a quick guide to make future lives easier.
1. Download and Install the latest apk of BSG's GCam port from here, I would recommend only going with the versions in red as they are the most stable, once you click the latest version make sure to select the "com.android.mgc" version (apk that ends in _MGC)
2. Create a folder in your main directory to store the config file, name is no longer that important but I name the folder GCam to avoid future confusion.
3. Download attached .xml file and copy it to the folder.
5. Open the newly installed camera app, and double tap on the black area around the shutter button, a window should pop up to chose a config file, search and select the .xml file in the GCam folder.
-We're almost finished, you need to limit exposure time for astrophotography mode or the app will crash when you try to use it.-
6. Open the camera's config by clicking the arrow on the top of the screen and clicking the bottom right settings button, it might take a min to open.
7. Click on modules, this is the individual configuration of each lens:
-In Back (1.0): Scroll down until you find "Astro Max Exposure Time", and set it to 5 sec, any more and the app will hang when you take a picture.
-In Back (1.1): Same as before but set time to 4 sec.
-Front is not necessary as astrophotography is not available.
With that you should have a -mostly- working version of gcam, I haven't been able to get the front flash to work as of yet, and for slow mo make sure to select 1/4x.
If you want to use a different gallery from google Photos, select it under Settings/General/Adanced, while you're here you can enable H.265/HVEC so video sizes aren't as large. You can mess around with the rest of the settings, although it might cause issues with quality, if you screw something up you can just reinstall the app and config.
Feel free to hit me up if you have any issues.
