I see, do you happen to have any documentation on how you accomplished this then? or could you write down the rough steps so I could attempt to replicate this? Would be much appreciated

the guide is at the main post now with the files to download

I did this on Bliss OS, it works aside for the fact that in my VM the settings wont open now, but I didnt test it to see if they did before so whether or not that is an issue due to the steps provided is unknown
EDIT: The VM I use is Hyper-V

Hi, you will first need to "root" the phone, basically the process which gives you FULL access to your device, you are then able to install a rom of your choosing. A gtood place to start is in the following article, which describes exactly the process of rooting your handset.
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
Any questions, just ask.
Does anybody know if the Google Ion version of the phone needs to be rooted? The instructions that came in the box suggest that it's possible to install new roms without any hacking because it's a device intended for developers.

Make sure you type the command exactly as written, do not mix back slash and forward slashes, and it will also be case sensitive. If your still having problems power the device down and back up to allow it to remount sd.
thanks, but same problem.
Done step 11. then reboots OK,
tried for Step 12 and keep getting "Access denied", never type anything, only "cut/paste" to avoid possible typing errors.
also tried putting into Fastboot mode (with skateboarders) , this is no use as 'device not found".
any further suggestions? or more simple step-by-step

[Q] Anrdroid Emulator

Hi,
I'm trying to experiment with making my own build, but for the first instance I'm trying to gain an understanding of how everything is working by working with a current build.
I'm using eclipse in linux with the android sdk etc.
My question relates to running already prepared builds in the emulator. From what I understand in the sdk/platform folder I should be able to place the system.img file from a current build and run it on the emulator, however when I try this the emulator appears to freeze.
What am I doing wrong or missing?
Thanks in advance.
I think i"ll follow this thread pretty closely, i've been wanting to run android on win xp sp3, thru my sdk setup, and would like to know how to as well. Maybe somebody with the proper know-how will be generous enough to post a brief guide, enough to point us noobs in the right direction to get builds running on our pc's. I'd like to be able to use the sdk to troubleshoot, fiddle around, and test a few things out, among other things.
If some kind soul would be willing to post a couple of good links, i'd be willing to read up, give it a go, and do my best at making a guide/tut for running android in the sdk

You want to download eclipse, then install the ADT, you'll find instructions on the android developers site under the SDK tab, enjoy.

yeah upload what you have got then we can debug it ourselves, will make it easier than trying to tell you what to do.
Try clearning cache and data in recovery before installing
im uploading now yes i edited the boot.img using the sdk version and used several bits from the desire honeycomb port not sure if its right at all and haven't changed the modules yet. If im completely heading in the wrong direction please inform me and i will give up
Here is my original attempt i've made several edits since but none have worked so here http://www.mediafire.com/file/vcn45ihdfgcjmhg/honeycomb.zip
right, what you have uploaded looks to me like its purely a Desire rom, you have not changed anything at all... no wonder its not booting!

Need Help Rooting, Really Confused!

Guys I have Nexus S i9020T runnig Android version 2.3.4, Baseband version I9020XXKD1, Build number GRJ22. I have looked around a lot and am confused on how to root my phone, is there any simple way of rooting my phone with super user? I run a very old PC so installing the sdk is pretty hard, so could anyone give me a step by step simple tutorial? This is my first Android phone and am a complete noob at this
Did you read the sticky yet?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007782
It's a step-by-step tutorial and exactly how you should do it.
The SDK shouldn't really be a strain for your PC.
Good luck,
Greetz
You don't need the entire SDK. Grab PDAnet USB divers and then choose to download just the 2.3.3 SDK and Google USB drivers from the SDK. Worked fine for me this way. You don't need all the stuff the SDK wants to install by default.

Yes that guide works regardless of what Android version you're using because Android version is not a factor. It's the bootloader.
No, it is impossible to root without the SDK because you have to unlock the bootloader using the SDK. You won't get stuck at the Google screen. People are messing up because they're unable to follow instructions.

I've helped people in this topic many times.
The easiest way I can say is to first download the Android SDK listed in that step-by-step thread. It's not that difficult and you shouldn't be scared to do it. Unless you're flashing something for another model of the phone (such as NS4G) everything should be fixable.
Download http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html to your respective OS. If its for windows, I know it says recommended for exe but I prefer using the .zip version of it. So download that first if you haven't already.

If your internet is really slow and you have to download ROMs after rooting. It might be rough on your end because ROMs are at least ~80MB+

Don't know why you're downloading the JDK but okay. Extract it and rename the folder android-sdk-windows-r12 to /sdk/ and place it on the root of your C drive. So it'd be located in C:\sdk\
You need to put your phone into bootloader mode (while phone is off; VOL UP + Power) while plugged in. Do what the instructions say and set up the drivers.
The step-by-step guide is self-explanatory. I don't really want to paraphrase what the guide says because it's pretty simple. Follow the guide you linked earlier and tell me if you experience any problems or have problems understanding what is being asked.
Edit: In part 2, where it says:
switch to the directory where you downloaded & unzipped the ..\android-sdk-windows\tools

It'll be cd C:\sdk\tools\

Edit 2: In part 2 where it tells you to get clockwork 3.0.0.5, disregard that
download: http://www.mediafire.com/?y3is5c9n5fi1sd6 instead
when you finish downloading it, place it in C:\sdk\tools\
and type:

This is a newer version of the Recovery and it should function better.

This must be helpful for some users that have my same problem.
