its not posible by the OS but try to rip a mp3 to wav and put it on windows folder. the audio manager does it but it makes wma only ringtones to incoming call, or try photocontacts pro is a nice program that can perform this for you.
Hi,
I have just been to www.comparethemeerkat.com and there is now a download section, you can download ringtones and backgrounds etc..
As I am a big fan of the jingle, I thought I would let every one else know about it..

Just copy your favourite MP3 to your phone and use it. You can cut it if you want with HTC MP3 Trimmer.

No need to use PC. HTC MP3 Trimmer does it on the phone.
I have copied all the win 7 sounds and converted them into .ogg file type. These make great Sms and MMs tones. I am rooted and I placed them in my system/media/notification file then I rebooted and they showed up in my system sound settings. If you are not rooted you can stick it on your SD card and download an app from the market that will let you choose what ton you want.
Let me know what you all think.
Ey, wich app I can download to easily change the sms tone without copying the tone from my storage card to the phone, and It can play the mp3 tones.?

I use Rings Extended. Free in the market.
Can someone please upload the original (High quality) classic ringtone? I forgot which rom has it and all the new ROMS that I have tried don't have it either. Thanks
you can probably get it or just about any ring tone available using the zedge app.
Hello,
I have Xperia X8 with FroyoBread v011 ROM, but I can't change ringtone melody, sms melody, mail melody and alarm melody from .mp3 files in SD card. I can change it only from default ringtone. Can you help me?
Thanks
Copy melody:
1. For ringtones to /sdcard/media/audio/ringtones
2. For alarms to /sdcard/media/audio/alarms
3. For notifications to /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
Melody for notification must be in format .m4a not in .mp3
Nice, thank you!
Alebo ako chces inak, tak dakujem velmi pekne. Idem to hned skusit, prekonvertovat a dufat, ze ma rano zobudi nove zvonenie
thank you very much

The sound doesn't have to be in m4a format.
It can also be in mp3 or even ogg format.
I use racht's version of froyobread and it works like a charm.
It should not be a problem with any version of rom.
For notifications mp3 don't work
im using ringdroid
You can also set it as ringtone via a musicplayer
codfreak: Thanks!
