Lieageos photo quality vs stock Android one - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hi! I'm thinking off buying a Xiaomi Mi A1 and was wondering how does the lineageos photo app compare to stock one? Is the photo quality the same? Does the 2x optical zoom work?

dont buy mia1 in 2018 buddy, get something with sd636/660 or 845 instead. Redmi note 5 pro, mia2 and poco f1 are my quick suggestions.

Thank you for you repley but it doesn't answer my question. I don't play games so don't give a crap about faster CPU. My Nexus 5 is enough for me so I presume that Mi A1 CPU will be more than enough. It has micro SD and 3,5 jack so all I need. Back on topic. How does the lineageos camera photo quality compare to stock? I would like to run lineage Google free.

If you want quality, you must install Gcam port. Both stock and aosp cameras suck.

Not running Lineage, but I saw Magisk module for stock camera on custom ROMs, so you should be able to use stock app with 2x zoom. 3rd party camera apps do not support switching to 2x zoom lens (at least none of those which I tried). Though 2x zoom lens is not very useful, thanks to slow aperture it's next to unusable in anything else than bright light. Portrait mode is nice in theory, but you can't turn of "beautification" mode, which is utter crap as it smears all the details. Otherwise stock camera performance during day is very good (IMHO much more natural than GCAM). In low light it's crap, this is when I switch to GCAM and its magical HDR mode. But I don't know if you can run GCAM without Google framework.

So I'm stuck with either google looking into my pants or using some patched files which I can't trust or having a crap stock camera. SNAFU

Well, pick your poison..

Le Pro 3 Camera Quality on Lineage OS 14.1

How is the quality of pictures on Lineage OS 14.1?
Do you have samles? Original files for me?
Thank you.
In my opinion, it's worse than the stock one.
I am not so sure but i think that every nougat has more or less the same quality in photos which i find it to be little worse than stock but not that noticable.
I also use open camera.
i thought nougat will bring better camera performance? Why is it a step back?

because leeco used propietary camera app, nougat is stock camera app, there are a few threads showing results with different camera apps , but they are with sotck based roms.
But camera can be improved with next updates in lineage OS?
Isn't there an HTC camera port that contains HTC libraries so it can render pretty good pictures?
Dont know??
I have a question. I am using OniRom and as I see I cannot use HDR in any app. It either doesn't show that option at all or even if it shows it (only in omnirom default camera) photos are definitively not in HDR. Does anyone know reason or solution for this?
Its horrible.
Doesn't the Pro 3 use a Sony IMX298 sensor, same as the OnePlus 3? Not a flagship camera but it shouldn't be too bad, no?

Best Camera App for Lineage OS 14.1

Until now camera is not good in lineage OS 14.1 but which is the best app so far?
this camera is not good, end of story, if you really need a great camera you should bought another phone.
Go back to stock.
Does anyone have the EUI camera app APK to side load?

No, camera Sensor is not Bad, but in lineage OS 14.1 it is not good. I think maybe if Nougat will be released official, the camera will improve and it will make its way to lineage OS 14.1 too.
Dies this make sense?

Can we simply install it as apk?
Try SnapIt camera
I dont find snapit.
Is there any other good camera app. Maybe an .apk to download driectly
Google camera is good
I've just switched to A Better Camera. So far so good, has HDR & Panarama options, easy to use UI. It does go wonky with displayed aspect ratios when previewing, but the pictures turn out good.

+1 for A Better Camera app. Works very well compared to stock app.
the best camera are 2:
1) a better camera (but the gui is horrible)
2) snap camera hdr
see you!
I use open camera. It's a very powerful app. You can adjust ISO, expose time, manual focus, expose lock. It's almost with all the function of SLR. I love it very much.
just curious. does anyone have any photo comparisons of stock vs lineage? i bought the phone recently and it shipped with lineage so i have no idea what the camera difference actually was, but i do think that camera kinda sucks. my s5 shot better photos.
Not specific for Lineage, but is there a camera app that do digital image stabilization for video?
I think the picture mode is quite decent with stock camera app, but the video mode is disastrous...
+1 on Open Camera. Also looking at but haven't yet downloaded or tested Qualcom's Snapdragon Camera. I also think the Snapdragon camera may be our default Lineage camera - so I'll likely stick with Open Camera.
Camera
I'm using moto z ported camera app. It's better then lineageOs one.

I tried:
google camera, it doesn't work;
jishnu htc one m9 (and m10) camera ports, work but are buggy;
open camera, not so great after all.
So far the best one, and i'm settled on it with my rom, is aforementioned moto z camera app.
cheers

Personal opinion: After a careful analysis of the photos, I think that Bacon Camera is the one that keeps the details "richer" even if it tends to underexpose the photos.
The photos with Bacon Camera are indeed "uncompressed" in BMP format.
Google Camera and A Better Camera Unlocked (both with HDR enabled) have a better balance of lights and shadows, but they lose a lot of detail by mixing more photos.

OP5 camera s/w - available in custom ROMs?

On my Note3 previously, it shot decent pics on the samsung ROM, but when I flashed custom ROMs (AOSP) and used the non-samsung camera app pics looked horrible.
Currently on a Nexus 6p, and I like the fact that irregardless of the ROM I use, the default camera app (e.g. Google Camera) can always shoot nice pics.
Contemplating the OP5 - is this the same with OP5? If I move from the stock ROM to any of the custom ROMs, will the camera app consistently be able to shoot the same quality pics/videos?
I stand to be corrected here..
Currently the OP camera isn't available on non-oxygen stock roms.
The quality of photos using Google Camera (or other non-OP camera apps) is generally as good as the OP camera app, and some people would say better, as the OP camera app has aggressive smoothing which is noticeable when you zoom in on a photo. The watercolour effect.
The downside of non-OP camera apps is that there isn't support for the second lens. This rules out the 2X optical zoom, and also the OP Portrait mode.
There is also a lack of support for 1080p 60fps video, and I *think* EIS for 1080p and 4k videos.
There is OOS camera in RR unofficial

Google camera hdr unlocked iso 9600 on le max 2!?

So I was just casually using Google's HDR camera and I wanted to push this camera to its limits so I take a picture in very low light conditions (btw this is one of the best cameras around right now with the Google Camera because the Le Max 2 was mostly lacking with noise and clarity, which the Google Camera helps to fix, and the Le Max 2 has the 21mp for superior detail, a very nice combination. I have a XZ Premium and even that can't compare to the Le Max 2 pictures with the Google Camera at all). The results at first was an ISO of 7450, then I pushed it even further and found the limit was 9600 . This is surprising to find out when the stock max ISO is 1600, please don't take this information as facts although as I can only identify what ISO the camera is running at by the pictures data.
And if the Google Camera does take pictures with an ISO up to 9600, there might be potential to allow the max ISO to be integrated into different camera apps or even system wide with our lovely developers.
I think the only thing holding the Le Max 2's camera capabilities right now is the exposure time as it is limited to just half a second, if we could unlock this exposure time to be something like 32 seconds (this does seem possible as I have seen it on the redmi note 4, and that takes amazing pictures at night with 32 second exposure) this camera could be amazing. Instead of the high noise at night with low shutter speeds (ISO 9600) we could have a low ISO and high exposure time for crisp and natural low light shots! If you got this far thanks for reading, I really appreciate it and if there may be something that is wrong please correct me as I am not a developer, just a person who loves tech, thanks!
Here is one of the images, and I know the metadata states the picture is taken on a Pixel 2 XL, this is because I used build prop to get Google Lens.

I have done some testing and I believe it works on the the Gcam 4.4 and 5.1 custom HDR+ apks, although I have found out that the ISO only goes up to 9600 in HDR mode, without it the ISO is just like stock (1600), this could imply that the Google's algorithm uses a high ISO.

Unfortunately we can't, it only works for android 7 (nougat) versions and above as I understood.
That was few months ago maybe something changed, but I doubt it.
Hi I_Raptor_I,
which Rom are you using?
I am using Resurrection Remix on Android 7.1.2 l, but I think this should work on all recent nougat ROMs with camera API 2 enabled, and if you where wondering this is where I download the latest Google Camera HDR apks:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
I am using Arnova's 5.1.018_v1.3 this is a step up from all of the other Google Cameras in terms of photography as the zoom is fixed and zooms in the centre rather than the left which is good, it does have the new portrait mode and motion pictures but they are still very buggy, but the HDR looks much more refined (better quality and low light performance with less iso but more exposure giving more clear images), there is a HDR function for the front but that does not work yet also video does not work, so if you haven't noticed this is a camera app dedicated to mostly HDR pictures. The good thing about this camera is that you can install a MGC camera apk and they don't conflict so you have got a Google camera for video and photography, overall this app is still buggy but contains alot more features and detail, hopefully when this app comes out with its next update the user experience will become much more refined.

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the OnePlus 7T Pro come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Absolutely stunning photos. From my experience it rarely blows out any highlights and retains plenty of detail in darker areas. HDR works awesome. I took some side by side shots with my friends Galaxy Note 9 and there was very little difference in quality. Both the wide angle and telephoto also take great pics. The colour is very similar between all three. It's entirely seemless.
*1 48 mp mode
*2 normal main camera
Bought the oneplus 7T Pro for my primary usage the camera quality is OK. GCAM can increase the quality of the camera to another level.
Coming from the Pixel 2XL, the camera is simply bad on the One Plus 7T Pro. It's just not flagship quality by any means.
The camera is good, but the software is not handling it properly. Indoors, incredibly oversaturated video and color accuracy is just wrong in the photos. Looks like a budget phone taking snaps.
Photos taken outside during the day are significantly better but still a bit wrong in color accuracy. I agree this has a long way to go before it can be in a flagship phone like this. Major deception.
just use gcam and you got a camera that competes with iphone 11 in some cases it pulls ahead and I know because I own both of them
in this shot the first one is stock camera vs gcam night mode on

Don't use that magisk module it will brick your phone there are another settings for wide & macro & working.
Below are the settings:-
?ROOT ONLY?
?OnePlus 7T/Pro:
1 - Install App Systemizer from Magisk and Reboot.
2 - Follow the Instructions and Systemize the GCam APK (make sure the package name org.codeaurora.snapcam is systemized, not any other) and Reboot
3 - Open terminal and type su -c setenforce 0 (or any other method to make it permissive, you may use a script to enable selinux permissive at boot itself)
4 - Open GCam Settings and enable Auxillary Cameras. Restart.

this seems to work well. the pixel binning patch seems to produce better results.

Hello, In your opinion, have the various updates improved the quality of the photos since the beginning? Especially in low light?
Better Autofocus and Quality
The Oneplus 7T pro camera quality is improved better with a 48-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.6 aperture and a pixel size of 0.8-micron. [shops.ae]

7.2 arnova and urne work if rooted and you install the 7t aux enabler magisk module
7.3 gcam doesn't have a working method yet
I am still torn because of this... Have the Pixel 2 XL now and need a new phone.. OnePlus 7t pro comes to mind... Major doubts: Camera and audio recording...
Good
Camera quality is good but not upto to the level for this price range...
