Front Camera - I need Help Please

I need help from you TyTn professionals
I got a HTC TyTn with the Vodafone Portuguese Rom (Rom:1.18.260.2, Radio:1.16.00.00, Extended Rom:1.18.260.105)
I tried to make a video call but I was unsuccessful (on the top of the phone there is an U meaning it is a 3G covered area) I could not hear or see the other person neither my video fee
I download coolcamera and webcamera+ trial and was unsuccessful in activating the front camera (black screen only)...
could this be a ROM problem???? or am I doing something wrong????

there might be some problem in your ROM definitly..
I suggest upgrade your ROM.

Front camera issue
I have the same problem with my front camera...just installed the newest WebCamera Plus, main camera and screen sharing work excellent! I still have an problem with the front camera, when the source is switched to front, it just sits and spins.
I contacted HTC and they say the only way to test it is to video call in 3G.
I did find the link to the video calling cabs and installed them after upgrading to WMXL 2.01. (the camera didn't work with WM5 either).
I'm in Chicago this weekend, unfortunately I don't know anyone I can call to test this with. (hint hint, wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
I read through all the posts and WIKI and didn't see this problem resolved.
Suggestions are very welcome!

hardware problem
I also have the problem that the front camera on my tytn doesn't work.
I'v tested it with different kind of roms (not the xda live version though) but it never worked.
I guess it's a hardware problem.
A couple of weeks ago I did send it to htc repair center, but unfortunately they did not fix it. I didn't send it in again, because I dont want to loose my tytn that long (last time it took nearly 2 months before I got it back) and I really do not use video calling that much.

Well if I had to send mine in, I would have to get another one first!
I have flashed both Cingular and HTC ROMS (5 times) to see if that was an issue, buy no avail. There is no 3G where I live but I really want it to work...oh well, could be worse.

Front Camera not working!!! In US?
I am not sure that the video calling feature is supported yet in the US... did anyone contact your provider... As far as I know, if you are not in a 3G area, videocalling won't work... And you still need for that feature to be supported by your wireless carrier...
Just my two cents... If you do get it to work, PM me and we can use it together... Since AT&T isn't offering it yet, I will be happy when they do...

I don't think it is a hardware error, cause there are a lot of users having the same problem.

so i will add my Herm300 currently working on LVSW and originally from Tmobile UK to the list of same front camera problem herm's
tried couple of roms and all the time same black screen :/

I also can't use the main camera in Video Call
any body know how to use the main camera in Video Call,, i press the toggle since i was in the call.. but it also black ... but when i go out of the call and go to camera it give me black. but if i close it and open it again it work fine....

hi guys, i have i-mate jasjam (hermes) and the rom is:
ROM versioro BLACK 3.0.1
ROM date:01/04/07
Rom version: 1.38.00.10
protocol version: 32.71.7020.12H
and i have installed Webcamera plus, and working perfectly on both, front and main camera. and to switch between them, all i have to do is, after running the webcamera plus, go to menu/source and select the soirce. wether the front sensor or the camera
note: you may find in the menu of the webcamera plus the word "sensor". sensor refers to the front camera.

You said that it works fine.. ok before you upgrade to ROM version (Pro Black 3.0.1) the front camera are not working or it was workin????

Just tried, it's not working - I get a device.exe error.
this is really wierd, can you guys make a video call with the back camera on? (i get the black screen with it two...)
I can take pictures with no problems...

frankly, i didn't try it before upgrading the rom.

Webcam doesnt work - is no help!
Webcam worked also for the front camera before this black phenemon happend to me!
Now nothing is working - the fault has begun with wired picture lines and rows (back camera) - ended up with none working front camera - and with a back camera which have to be opened twice (first time starting also black) before working.
Help is really needed ! Are there any Initialisation Files or sth. like that for testing purposes to get rid of this.....

Hardware question

can i change a wizard camera ( 1.3 mpx) with a prophet camera (2 mpx) ? ( i want to take the hardware camera out of the prophet and put it in a wizard because it has macro focus). i don't care if the phone will recognize it as a 1.3 mpx , i need the macro.

this will be an awesome experiment, I cannot see why it would not work, I mean aslong as you insert it correctly, in theory there is nothing stoppig it from working at all!
Keep us updated, maybe a video?

Change camera didnt worked
I tried replacing camera from HTC Gene no problem with connector as both both are same type & size but phone didn't find the camera so may with different device there could be different pinouts.

unfortunatelly , i will try this after i get bored with my device. i am kind of scared because i can damage the shell of the phone , the plastic part , when i try to disassembley it. this wizard is in a mint condition. sorry !!!!! ( for my bad english too)

S4 i9506 both cameras not working (tried everything i could find)

Hello there to all.
I´m newly registered to the forum, although i´ve been using it to search, learn and use roms in my Samsung s3 for some time now.
I´ve bought recently a used S4 i9506. At the time i tested several key points of the device to check if it was all working, however (and don´t ask me why because i cant explain it), i completely forgot to test the cameras.
My problem is the following. Everytime i try to access the camera it says that camera failed or something like server connection failed. I´ve tried every single resolution i could find on the internet and so far all failed to solve it. The problem seems to be in both cameras, i think, because when i try the code *#0*# both Mega cam and front cam give error. Here´s what i tried so far:
- Soft Reset/Hard Reset/factory reset;
- Cleared cache both from boot and manually erasing cache from com.sec.android.gallery3d;
- Tried 3rd party camera apps from GooglePlay;
- Tried the RestartCamera.apk;
- Tried 3 different firmwares for i9506;
- Tried rooting it and then flashed several different roms;
- Switched the rear camera with a new i9506 rear camera module that i bought;
- I cant also test the cameras, because when i use the code *#34971539# they bring a menu on which i can´t use almost every option (see image);

Anyone have any other possible resolution?
I´m thinking on maybe buying a front camera module. Could that do the trick? Could the front facing camera not working properly make the rear camera fail as well?

I've got the same problem with my s4mini. Both cameras aren't working and all the solutions you explained don't solve it.
I'm thinking about buying another S4mini with broken Display in order to change the motherboard. This might be the only possibility to solve this......

Hey there m8.
I know the feeling, right?!
The thing is that for a faulty i9506 model i could almost buy myself another motherboard and mount it, but i was hoping to find some other solution, maybe even some electronics expert opinion on what i could do in the motherboard to make it work again. There are some videos on youtube that teaches how to change some components on the motherboard to solve problems like dead smartphone or constant auto reboots. Also, finding a faulty i9506 model isn´t as easy as finding a regular S4. :crying:

Today i've changed the mainboard aaaaaaand -> cameras still not working
So i started to change the front cramera and the ear-brightness-sensor from the old s4 mini with the broken screen into my working one. And now both cameras are working again!:good:
I think the cause is most likely the brightness sensor which is combined with the ear speaker. This could explain why both cameras are not working.
I'm not completely sure due to i changed the front camera also. However changing the main camera did not do anything as mentioned above.
Maybe i should mention: A few weeks ago i've changed the earspeaker-brightness-unit because the speaker wasn't working anymore. Right after this both cameras stopped working.

Thank you for the update on your situation m8. That could be some relevant information there. Can anyone confirm if the sensor is the same for all s4 models? If so i could find more easily one from another s4 model and try it, for the sake of desperation.

Front camera not working

I have 2 tegra notes (vegas) - second one's my son's. One rooted, one not. One on Lollipop, one on kitkat. One chock full of crappy games, one not. The front camera doesn't work (at all) on either of them - probably never has, but it's only recently that I've tried them (for skype). Tried a few different apps, tried after factory reset, before and after lollipop upgrade - all they do is either show a pixellated screen or crash whichever camera app I'm trying.
Wondered if anyone had the same issue?
One (probably irrelevant) thing the tablets have in common - they've both had the usb port replaced under warranty.
I know the front cameras are rubbish, but it would be nice if I could get them to work. TIA for any suggestions.

Just to finish this...
Both tablets have been previously repaired by Curry's / PC world - the usual charging port fault.
I took my son's vega apart last week as he's comprehensively broken the port again - played with the ribbon cable to the front camera and it came to life after a reboot.

Some years ago, my screen died and becase of I had a good motherboard, I bought another H815 to sustitute the screen.
Then, some components like camera or speakers did not work, so I tried to use the components that came with the H815 I bouth, instead of use the components I had in my old H815. By this way I achieved my phone to work fully.
Some months ago, my motheboard died, and I bought a new one(I think new) from Israel in Ebay.
I had the same problem, this time, only with camera. I tried both rear cameras I had. With one unit, the app show that this don´t work and with the other I only can see strange and purple lines. In both situations, the front camera works well.
Something that is difficult to understand to me, is that in some apps like whatsapp, one of the cameras works in some occasion ( I can see all well, but too vertical purple lines on white things in the image).
I tried apps like google camera or to installing the native lg app too, but I can´t do anything to solve the problem.
Anyone know how to know the compatibility between cameras and motherboards in H815 terminals? I tried to bouth a third camera but I had the same problem. I know the cameras are not damaged and work in other terminals.
Do you think if it is possible to solve this installing a different rom on my H815? I tried different rooms on my old first gen Motorola Moto g, but I have any experience with H815, can you guide me some, if you think that this is a possible solution?

Any Help?

I changed my m/b too on my G4 from a seller in taobao (815t->F500) It works great, camera were fine. So I think it might be you camera module or faulty m/b is at fault... cos changing m/b should not cause any problems.
