Hey guys
I rooted my 6p the other day and all seemed fine.
I went to flash temasek cm13 which caused some bugs so I wiped and installed cm13 instead but that crashed with the camera.
I then got into all sorts of trouble with a bootloop so flashed the stock firmware after factory reset using fastboot.
Then I flashed su in twrp but now I get an error no SU binary installed...
I've tried googling how to fix it but thought I'd get the best answer here
Can anyone please help?
Thank you!

It's ok guys I fixed it. I'd used the wrong tutorial on flashing that I used the first time.
I hadn't flashed the boot.img in fastboot! Doh!
I did a clean reset and installed a fresh android 9. So no root, nothing.
Anyways I install magisk 5.8.3 and then tried to patch the boot.img from the android 9 factory image.
But every time I select the boot.img and try to patch it, it says "Failed! ! Installion failed!".
How has everyone else tried to install magisk on android 9?

Not the way you are doing it. I boot to TWRP, without installing it and have TWRP install the full zip.
Hm I'll try this. Used to the boot patching.

Just dirty flashed 9 over dp5, booted to twrp and flashed magisk. Rooted, and all appears well.

Fwiw. I've been using this magisk version for dp3-5, but there are newer versions, but 16.4 works for me...
https://thedroidarena.com/download-magisk-16-4-beta/
I may try a newer version at some point, but I'm in no rush.

Make sure your using 16.7 you have to change in setting to beta. Same thing happened to me trying to use 16.0
I get updater error :2 failed to install every freaking time. No matter what zip i use. 1600 1671 1674
After dirty flash (remove -w) Android 9 PPR1 then install Magisk 16.7, it seems I am not able to set PIN or any security... Anyone has the same issue?
I have the same issue TWRP also can't decript the phone. I am going to wipe everything, and fastboot erase userdata.

Don't wipe your phone! Just flash the new boot.img from the image file (not OTA file) and you will be able to go back to your Android system and disable the pin. After disable the pin, boot into TWRP and flash the Magisk from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77240449&postcount=2832
Hope this helps!

Use magisk uninstall first and this should solve the issue.

There's a 3.2.3-0 out as well. It's reportedly able to decrypt using alphanumeric codes. However a straight 4 number pin still isn't working for me.

One of the other threads. Here's the twrp version though. https://dl.twrp.me/taimen/
Been having issues myself since updating to Pie yesterday. TWRP installed working fine. Installed magisk manager, set to beta channel. Rebooted into TWRP and flashed magisk 16.7, phone hanging at the lovely google logo page. I then have to run the uninstaller back in TWRP or i cant get the phone to boot. Anyone had this?

Yeah, rooting on P is a little tricky it seems. You'll likely have to run the uninstaller, then boot up. Then go back to twrp and flash this version of magisk. It's the 16.7(4) version found in the Flash kernel thread :good:

Your not wrong there. Tried it as you suggested, same thing, hanging at the G logo page with the bar animation under it. Had to run the uninstaller to get back into my phone. Very odd
Hi,
I have a problem on my phone (Asus Zenfone 2 Laser running on rooted android 6) : I can't turn wifi on, when i click on the wifi button it does absolutely nothing...
It happened when I updated from magisk 16 to magisk 17, I got bootlooped due to a bug, after this I flashed the uninstall magisk zip and I flashed magisk 16 again, and it happened at this moment.
I already tried :
Updating to magisk 17.1 (the fixed version)
Power cycling my phone
Restoring a rootless save
(I try to avoid the factory reset but if there's no other solutions I'll do it.)
Need help for reflashing kernel

Hi again,
Update : I learnt on the magisk wiki that this issue can be solved by reflashing the kernel.
So if anyone can help me to reflash my actual kernel/a new one compatible with my ze500kl, aka Zenfone 2 laser. (My actual kernel is "3.10.49-perf-gcb6a1aa")
Thanks in advance !
Hi again,
I tried to flash the image of my original firmware's zip (found in this zip from the official Asus website)
http: //prntscr.com/kpoq3d
My phone booted normally but I still can't turn the wifi on...
Afterwards I tried to flash the firmeware's zip from twrp, wich didn't worked.
(I also tried to sideload via ADB, wich didn't worked too.)
I'm at a bit of a loss...I was prompted and updated Magisk to v19.1 this morning and now I'm stuck in a bootloop. Although I didn't find any similar issues posted, I thought I'd try here before posting in a Magisk thread. I have an H918 (T-Mobile).
Any help appreciated!

I updated to stable 19.1 on my h910 without any issues
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
Just updated to 19.1 through the app on H990. All good my side.
Try flashing Magisk uninstaller if you can get into TWRP, then boot, then flash Magisk again?
Also, what (if any) modules are you running? Perhaps there is an incompatibility.
Disable modules here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-tool-magisk-manager-recovery-mode-t3693165
Uninstall didn't work...well, it said it uninstalled but the phone still bootlooped. I restored boot from TWRP and the phone booted. I reinstalled Magisk Manager and then booted to Recovery and flashed Magisk v19.1 and the phone is fine. Very strange.

Glad you got it sorted. Just in case others come across this thread - did you restore the stock boot backup that Magisk created?

I may have spoke to soon, discovered one of my root apps is no longer working, its having a problem with su permissions keeps looping requesting permissions. Read numerous reports of multiple issues with 19 looks like it being released as stable was premature
