No message blocking by phrases in the Message app - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi,
I use Note8 and have recently upgraded to Note9.
In the Note8 there is an message blocking option in the Message app that can block message by either phone number or phrase (in message content).
In the Note9, this option is still there but now it has only blocking by phone number. There is no blocking by phrases anymore.
Do you guys have the same issue?
And I don't know why Samsung has omitted this useful option.

Really? That's the only reason why you got a Note 9? For that one feature (block by phrases)?

Hi,
Take a look at the screenshots, it's not like the same way now (with my Note 8 for example) but it's still there (at least for me)

It's still there on the my Note 9 as well, same place as the Note 8

There are many other message apps you can use. I've always used Next SMS, as my default message app. I just upgraded from a Note 4, to the Note 9, and my messages still work exactly the same way. It does many, many, many more cool things than the Samsung message App. I never knew there was a option to schedule a message to be sent, but thought it would be cool to compose a text and not have it go out at 2am as my son loves to do. It wakes me up. It also lets you filter an incoming text based on a keyword or phrase.
I love how you can have a different ringtone, theme, background, font size, message color, etc for each contact. The default message App doesn't do much at all. Just try different ones until you find one you like.

Yeah, i have the exact same problem. I live in Turkey. A spam message heaven. I started using "Mr. Number" app, looks simple and powerful.

This is blocking by number. The missing feature is blocking based phrase in the message.

How do you block contacts without numbers in Google's Messages app? When you go to Blacklist you can only add phone numbers, it does not let you select a contact

I do not have the message, I have the contact saved, the contact without a phone number, and I cannot add it. I suppose I have to wait for a message from this contact and then do the thing you mentioned. Before, in Hangouts, you could add the contact directly, no matter if it had a phone nr or not

Note 8, upgraded to android 9, the blocking by phrases option is missing too.
This is good feature as this advertisement ppl change numbers all the time and send you the same message.
Eg. Di you want to gamble?
If you block the phrase "gambke" all message with this word will be block.

Is there no way to flash the 4.4 Messages app from Oreo on a rooted device running Android 9?

If you go to block numbers option you can choose a contact or a message, but if the contact you are trying to add does not have a phone number it won't appear for selection. I've tested it!
But if still have the message on your inbox it might be possible to add it to the blacklist. This I haven't tested yet...

Address Book Glitch?

I have had my EVO for about 2 weeks (came from a Blackberry) and noticed something odd in the address book contacts.
For every phone number within the contacts, it gives you the option to send a message. It gives you this option even if it is not a mobile number. Can this be fixed? Is there another way to store contacts within Android - because several times I've pressed the wrong number to send a message to without realizing it and then get a message of course saying they never received the message (because it was sent to their landline or fax).
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter -
Sincerely,
Kevin
twitter.com/kstagg
This is not a glitch. Sprint offers text to landline. Edit: NVM it does not cost extra
http://www.sprintpcs.com/common/popups/pop-txt2landline.html
Solution, dump the default messaging app get handcent and turn on the handcent option that only shows mobile numbers. Now when you want to type a new message make sure you go into handcent find the person there and it wont' show anything but their mobile.
many thanks...
...but was hoping that rather than a purely SMS app that there was a replacement address book app. Is there such a thing? Something with all the functionality of the default address book?
I have a gmail account - is there a google option for this? Please forgive noob question as I'm very new to android and am trying to figure this all out.
Many thanks bud.

No the address book will let you send text messages to any number. You either need to be more careful when choosing a number there to text, or instead go to your text message app and initiate new messaged through there.

Galaxy tab 10.1v whatsapp application! !!!

Hi to all
I've bought the galaxy tab10.1v a few days ago, I have to tell you its an awesome tablet
For now I only have one problem, I managed to install the whatsapp application but I can't put it to work, it opens but none of.my contacts appear
Any help please ....what am I doing wrong?
Thanks

I don't think Whatsapp has been designed with Tablets in mind though I was hoping to use it when I get mine. Firstly are you sure you have got it set up correctly, I can't remember when I first set mine up on my phone but I think once I installed I had to put in the phone number I was using and then got a text message from Whatsapp on that number.
Again not sure on this next part but the Tab 10.1V doesn't have text message functionality does it? If not then I don't think it is set up correctly.
Anyway, lets assume that it is. The second issue is that Whatsapp syncs with your contacts from the phone book and the tablet doesn't have phone functionalities so won't have a phonebook.
I have a feeling that the phone version of Android 2.3 and below may store contact information in a different location to where Android 3.0 and above stores it so the app won't be able to find any of your contacts.
This is purely just guessing, you might want to shoot Whatsapp a quick message and see if that is the case or maybe do a Google search. They've had between 5-10million installs already so I'm sure there must be someone that has tried it on a Honeycomb Tab already
Thanks for your Help
I will look in to it and let you know something
Best regards

Look over at the whatsapp thread under the Xoom forum. I managed to get it working, but it won't run on the same account for 2 different devices at the same time (as Skype does), so I'm not using it.
How did you managed to do it?
I had no problems installing Whatsapp from official site, not the market, on my 10.1v after installing TB Galaxy 1.0.3 rom. I received sms validation, but never managed to add any contacts. Any hints?
Easy as a piece of cake!
Guys, actually it's very simple. I tried it myself and works.
Here's how:
Use the SIM card (mobile number) and insert into Tab 10.1 that you want your contact to see if you are online. This is also the number that you will be using to send/receive Whatsapp.
Download the latest Whatsapp here and install it on your Tab
Run Whatsapp and key in the SIM card mobile number and wait for it to verify
Wala... now you have a running Whatsapp!
Every mobile broadband card there is a number associated. If you do not know what is the number of the sim card, then take out the SIM card and plug it into a working phone, create a sms and send it to yourself and you will see a number popping up. That is the number you should key in Whatsapp.
NOTE: Because the number you are using in Whatsapp will determine who will see or will not see you online, therefore, I recommend either you inform your contacts that you have two Whatsapp running. One is on Tab while the other is on your phone. You cannot run both together using one number, but you can also circumvent if you intend to use it on your Tab rather than your phone, just use the SIM number that you are using for calls and insert into Tab to verify then take out the SIM and put back to your phone. It will still work.
It's easy and someone made it complicated. I thought so too initially!
PS: you won't be able to see your contact list as usual.
whatsapp is working correctly, BUT the contacts will only show up as numbers. and yes, im only running one instance of whatsapp.
as im reading this, do you mean that all your contacts needs to be on the SIM card and not using google contacts?

This is what official support answered me: "Sorry, tablets are not supported at this time and we have no plans to support them."

not working for me.
Try Viber, similar to whatsapp but can see all contacts. However, Viber can't seems to allow attachment of pic and clips. Anyone has ideas?
i found a way to use whatsapp with contacts, in a way.
Note my screen shot on the top half with names listed icons. (1st screenshot)
You can set whatsapp as default messaging and by pressing the friend icon, goes straight to a whatsapp conversation.
(2nd screenshot)
Note this.
You will need to keep all conversations and never delete them, otherwise you will need to get your friend to initiate a new conversation. But no big deal.
I tried everything else and this is the only way.
Hope that helped someone.
now the contacts accept whatsapp.
just set the default messaging service to what'sapp on the friend icon.
once your in contacts and press the contacts name, it shows the what's app icon as seen in the screenshot.
Works perfectly.
Update.
saving the contacts under device only makes what's app possible and only then will the icon appear under the contact.
Also. Now the contacts list can access whatsapp like it should.
Always get your friend to initiate the conversation and save it from there.
Transferring old account from the adroid phone trick does not work so this is the best way.

Numbers in SMS app underlined as phone numbers

Hello,
Please have a look at the attached screenshot taken from the Samsung SMS app.
As you can see, numbers are underlined and if pressed it opens the dialer, and these numbers are not actually phone numbers.
I also tried ChompSMS (used to use it on all my previous android devices) and it acts the same.
So I believe this is not related to the SMS apps, it is related to a setting or something that converts numbers to dialer numbers.
Is there a way to get rid of it? I had HTC One A9 before that and ChompSMS never did that, even the HTC SMS app didn't do that.
Thank you.
Lot's of apps try to identify phone numbers this way. If it's not a phone number just don't tap on it. I don't see it as a real problem.
Thank you for the reply. Actually it has nothing to do with any SMS apps, it depends on the system, but I just wanted to see if there is a way that can remove the link.

I have similar problem, but still bad... the highlighted numbers (text) are in similar color as the background, so not visible easily.... please help
Though I am ready to install new app (preferably one without ads), I wish to do it by changing settings.
Note:
Changing an accessibility setting resolved it, but that makes it look bad

Why? Mine works.
It's seems you have to have at least 1 received and 1 sent text in the string in order for scheduled sms to appear. I get the option on all my messages except for one I only received one message. T mobile.

It doesn't matter whether a conversation has been started or not, and it does work with advanced messaging on. I'm on ATT and can't even disable the advanced messaging for some reason (it's on, but the option to disable the checkbox is grayed out).

The 1st picture is with advanced messages off, the 2nd is with it on.
I'm also on AT&T and I can toggle my advanced messages on or off..
You all already saw the previous screenshots which showed the scheduled messages options, so its obvious that I am able to do them. But my advance messaging is locked on for some reason, so even with it on, I'm able to use scheduled sending.
Edit: It turns out that it's grayed out because I disabled Enhance LTE Services. If I enable that option, I can then toggle Advanced Messaging, but with Advanced Messaging off, I can still schedule messages if and only if I'm starting a new conversation. If in an existing conversation, the option disappears.

Hi,
I just got the new LG V20 for Sprint after my Note 4 totally died on Friday 12/23/2016 as I was about to make an 8 hour drive.
I was trying to hold out until new Galaxy 8 came out in their new super large screen.
Never made it.
So I had already looked into LG V 20. It's nice but missing some things that I need and loved. It also offers so really cool features that Samsung never offered.
But I discovered it cannot schedule and text message.
After reading online it seems that Sprint has switched over to the new advanced messaging system. And Android first release of the new messaging app for this system does not include the scheduling of text messages.
So now that everyone understands the real reason for it missing.
Is there a way to schedule text messages.
I haven't tested it through Google Now or Google Home.
But we may need a developer to come out with an app that can provide the until Sprint or Google add it to their message app.
Thank you.

I have an irritating problem with my v20 and i guess it's the case with every v20, because of the nature of my work, i schedulea message to be sent out at a different time everyday, most of the time the message fails to be delivered and the phone never notifies that the message has failed, any solution to make the phone leave a permanent report that the message has failed until i can dismiss the report manually?
Pay a secretary?
Anyways I can do all the stuff you guys can do with the stock LG Messaging and I'm not even clever.
Also you all have fkd up screens, send em back :silly:
I have Verizon and I don't see "Advanced Messaging" or "Schedule sending". I came from the s7 edge which had this feature, really sucks I don't have it...

Samsung Messages or Google Messages

Just got my S10+ this week, and have been busy playing with settings, etc..I'm coming over from the Note 8 (AT&T).
Question for everyone. Do you prefer the built in Samsung Messages app, or Google Messages. I like both, especially now with the dark them more readily available.
What makes me lean more towards Google Messages is the ability to get messages on the web/browser. Was using it all the time on the Note 8.
Wanted to ask if anybody has switched back/forth between the two messaging apps, and if they have encountered any issues? I had switched from Google Messages back to Samsung's message app on the Note 8, and my messages were being sent to the wrong person. That's not a good situation to be in. I ended up switching back because of that.
Also, I noticed there is an updated apk for Samsung messages. My S10+ is using v 10.0.10.111. Looks like they are up to v 10.0.20.37. Anybody install that apk? Any good/bad things in there?
TIA
Coming from an S7 edge i was forced off Google Messages due to the handling of group messages. Sometimes it would work but other times texts that belonged in a group would come in separately. I would then have to click to download the text before it popped back into the group. Other times those texts would show up as expired (even though i just received them) and i would never see what it was. Needless to say i couldn't use it anymore so i ended up using Samsung Messages which never has that issue. Now that i'm on S10+ i'm tempted to try Google Messages again in hopes that it works the way is should as i do prefer it over Samsung Messages just due to the look and of course the web messages.
I've been flip-flopping between: Textra, Google Messages, and Samsung messages.......I've decided to stick with Google Messages.
The Samsung app, feels dated.... I do like the notifications I get when sending to other (At&t) users using the Samsung messaging app (tells when read, or they're replying...ect...), but I only have 1 person out of my 200+ contacts that it's worked on (my 17yr old son, who hates the Samsung messaging app). Plus, it just feels dated. No swipe to delete and long messages require you to "read more".
Textra is the lightest of the bunch, and I've been using for the past 4 or 5 years..... It's also the most customizable. But, Google has upped their game on the last release and incremental updates. It just feels "native" to the phone now. I also like the fact when you receive a PIN number, it recognizes this and copies just the PIN for you.
Google Messages gets my vote
BTW: No issues with group messages for me on the Google Message app
I like the Google messages app very much, but since the update to OneUI I have been using the Samsung version as it's good enough and themes the same way as the other Samsung stock apps, which I like a lot.
I prefer Truecaller messages because of its spam feature..
I love Google messages over Samsung. It worked perfect when i was with ATT. Now that i'm with Verizon I've had issues with google messages. They would come through late or not come at all. Switching to Samsung messages seemed to clear this issue up, as far as i know. No one has said they texted me and i didn't reply. Although that doesn't mean its working correctly, i may not have been aware of missing texts.. Anyone else had any issues with Verizon? i read somewhere a while back that Verizon text messages only worked right when using Verizon messages app. Not sure why that is... Or if it's true. If anyone can shed any light on whether there is, or is not an issue with Verizon messaging if not using Verizon app.

Using Google messages, but really like the ability to pin conversations to the top in Samsung app.

I prefer Android Messages over the stock one.
I love google messages but 2 minor things why I don’t use it on my s10 .
1. Wish google messages had schedule send sms feature . I use that quite a bit . No where in google messenger can I find this option .
2. The notification doesn’t have a pop up view bubble, quick read notification come on the top of the screen when I receive text . Couldn’t find a way to get google messages to do that like stock app notification does .
If there is a fix for both I’d switch back to google messages.

I prefer Samsung over Google mainly because of the ability to pin conversation and star message, the pop up bubble.
If Samsung had scheduler that would be awesome.
There's Qsms which is quite good but I don't want additional apps installed when Samsung messages works atm .
I use Samsung messages at the moment. But the one thing I really miss from Google messages is swipe to archive conversations...I liked to be able to hide conversations I don't use a lot without having to delete them.
