i have pulled the ota zip for this model but im not sure what to do with it so here you go to whoever knows what to do.

This is just a patch. Not the complete firmware. Typically only the full firmware is shared here not just a patch. Entire firmware will be much larger then 72MB. You were able to locate the questions and answers forum but the rom forum is where this belongs. There is a thread in there with complete stock firmware downloads.

yea well im done caring. at least im trying my ass off to get the updated firmware for this specific model since no one else seems to give a damn about this device. this was my last ditch effort. i already switched to a z2 force so good luck to everyone on this. and ive already tried multiple times giving this device away to anyone thats a dev cause i intended on buying a new one but not one person wanted it so im just tossing it at this point. best of luck. if someone thinks they do something with this go for it.

I am on a G6+ so throw a fit if you want. We have a dev who will be getting a device soon and I myself am attempting to build los 15.1 to solve the 1 remaining bug we have on Oreo-based roms/GSIs.
That said, I'm glad you're trying to help the community but there is a right way and a wrong way. Generic no detailed information posts like this can be dangerous. Is this OTA1 is it OTA2 is it OTA3? What firmware version is this to upgrade from and to? I see the version in the file name when clicking the link to your G Drive, but that doesn't help users searching through XDA who might find this patch useful. I don't think a google search result that showed this post would convert the URL to the file name. So even google search wouldn't know what to make of your post. Is it a flashable zip or is it flashed via the bootloader with fastboot? In either case how does a n00b know how to do that? I forget the Boost Mobile variant is a Jeter not Aljeter to which there is not even a firmware posted for(although I believe the Aljeter firmware can be used anyways and gives you a more stock google experience I guess). I did not say take down the patch, it's worthless, etc. I did say it is not typical to share them here. If you truly want to help members provide the proper/necessary information. If you want to cry and whine, don't expect sympathy. Pack your bags, and move on to your new device. You could probably sell it and recover some investment by keeping in mind there is a market segment who cares nothing about custom roms and such and may like to buy the device.
i would def like to know who this dev is then cause the only one that was doing anything has already messaged me saying they dont want the device lol. the boost mobile variant has only had one update so i didnt bother saying anything beside ota zip for boost mobile because its the only one we have recieved for our device model if people cant read thats there problem. its frustration as all hell to have someone saying what your saying right now when there is like me and one other guy it seems trying our hardest for this device and everyone else is like "hey lets watch the jeter guys fail". i had planned on cleaning up the post when im not as pissed about owning a phone with so little support. if you have any friends or dev friends that have this model and would be kind enough to pull a better ota file for us PLEASE be my guest.

Contrary to what you said about no firmwares being around for the Boost Mobile variant of the G6 Play, but, there is firmware available for it, even though it uses the Sprint branded firmware the firmwares are still there for it, after use the phone will provision and activate itself for Boost Mobile per your account that's attached to it, here's a direct link to the firmwares for it: Sprint firmwares for JETER XT-1922-7, it even has the latest firmware for the last OTA patch we got for the November Security Patch Level

I'm calm, just sayin' lol, I think it's funny how people don't wanna wait on development on new devices, in my opinion if you can't wait don't buy the new device, if you buy it knowing that there's not any development available for it then don't complain, it'll just be ignored.

In no way do I consider myself a developer, as I am certified n00b status.
But after reading this thread, I've decided to accomplish a goal I've had in mind for a while, for which I have found very little documentation. If I am successful, I'll post a guide. I'm glad the people who know what they're doing can login to sites like this and give the little guys a fighting chance. Thanks!

Dude this post is old. Like a year old now. I've made the guide for decrypting and rooting and even reflashing stock firmware that I also keep updated. I highly advise you to read everything within the Moto g6 play forum to make sure your not basically gonna be copying me and or just gonna create another guide that will have no point in it actually being here because my guide already covers it.

You're being a ****, ****. I was literally thanking you guys, I acknowledged it was an od thread in the title. I thanked you, and the other handful of devs for helping out guys like me, who don't have all of the knowledge to develop themselves, or the money to buy a nicer phone with more support. Anyway I don't hold grudges and I still appreciate your contributions. I'm trying to update mine to Pie but can't find any official files to do so. Anyways ill figure it out, it's just that my moms pixel 2 just broke and we don't have the money to fix it just yet to im really trying to get my jeter ready for her because she needs the phone in order to work. But before all of this i was going to try and compile a custom kernel from scratch for the jeter, for use with the news Andrax Pentesting Framework so that I could finally experience airodump/wifite without external adapter. looks like its gonna have to wait. mom comes first. have a good night bro see ya around.:good:

If you wanna think I'm a **** for being honest with you and forward instead of sugarcoating stuff then go ahead. You said your making a guide. I simply said make sure it's not a guide that already been made because so far we have 5 threads about gsi's and other useless threads that have kinda cluttered this forum and or stuff that my guide covers because once again. There is already enough clutter on the forum. https://forum.xda-developers.com/g6-play/development/ota-moto-g6-play-aljeter-t3921877. To answer your question after being a called a **** that's what your looking for. You have to be on the January security patch to even take/flash it. If you took an Oreo update after the January 1st security patch which I do believe is February 1st for oreo you are out of luck on getting pie until the stock firmware is uploaded on mirrors.

This unacceptable conduct for XDA. This community is very open to free speech, but personal attacks are not welcome, allowed, or tolerated. I'm not going to report it because the mods have enough work as it is. However, I am going to take the time to educate you on XDA's rules regarding language.
"2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result, what may be OK to say in your part of the world, may not be OK elsewhere. Please don't direct profanity, sexually explicit language or other offensive content toward Members or their work. Conversely, while reading posts from other members, remember that the word you find offensive may not be offensive to the writer. Tolerance is a two-way street." -- Emphasis, mine. Please be civil. That was uncalled for. The guy you were responding to was only trying to avoid more mass confusion, because we have too many guides already.

I read this on sprint community forums. I'm hoping one of you brilliant devs can make something of it? I downloaded it, but am horrified to use it, as the last one (that said, "test" on it) really jacked up my phone good.
Just passing on this info:
From Android Central When it rains, it pours. Just got word of a new leak for the HTC Sprint Hero. No way of knowing if this is the final 2.1 version, but this one is signed with release keys so you will lose your root for sure if you're into that sort of thing. Anyone who feels brave and wants to try for themselves you can find it here. Remember, this is not official software from any carrier. Using this is at your own risk, and nobody here at Android Central is suggesting you try it, though we're more than happy to show you where it is. Thanks Beezy420! http://www.4shared.com/file/gfPzbRcS/RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2276515_R_si.html Haven't tried it myself...But I figured I'd post it..

can you give me a date?
and I just read that there isn't an option to use the device as a disk drive, is it true?
It will be pushed out on 11.01.2012 but this is very confidential information, please don't tell anybody!
can someone serious answer me please?
Nobody knows. You'll just have to wait like the rest of us.

You're in the wrong place, pal. If you really want an answer, you'll have to find a connection within Motorola... if they even have a hard date set. If you want to be taken seriously, take time to search and read before posting a question. You'd find dozens of threads on the topic in the xoom forums alone (unfortunately, since others choose not to searrch, too) and you'd quickly learn there is no answer to your question here.
You can have ICS on your xoom today if you want it, just not from Moto. Again, do some reading and research and you can determine whether available alternatives are right for you, or whether to wait for a not-yet-announced official update.
Nearly everyone here is helpful and will assist if you do your homework and still have questions... but you have to take yourself and your own questions seriously before you can expect anyone else to do so... or you can choose to be roasted.

first of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to write your answer.
I did searched(not in XDA, I searched on google) for the answer and found a lot of articles about the XOOM getting the ICS update but they all were very old so I thought that maybe Motorola released a date for the update and I didn't found an answer for that so I decided to ask here.

The problem is, and always will be - you can never set a solid release date for software upgrades when it comes to this 'chain' that the update must go through in order to be released to us.
From a manufacturer and carrier standpoint, they could never give even the slightest hint of a date for a software release until its imminently close. Reason being, there are so many variables and factors affecting a particular update. If they gave any sort of date other than "soon", then if they missed that date that everyone was expecting - customers would blow a gasket.
So essentially, from their standpoint, it is MUCH safer to keep from giving any sort of date of release.
Bottom Line: An official ICS update should be coming sometime soon. Speculation says the U.S. Wifi-only XOOM will be the first, and then others will soon follow. That is the most we know at this point.
So pull up a chair, grab a beer, and join the rest of us as we compulsively surf these android forums every day for the next piece of news to come forward.

I had some good guidance (some nice, some not so nice) when I first started using xda, so glad to pass it along. The best was not to start a new thread except as a last resort - most questions are already asked and answered somewhere, and if not there is a likely an existing thread/discussion in which the question fits. For the most part, xda members aren't jerks and are extremely helpful... but the frustration factor rises quickly when the same questions are asked and answered repeatedly. As you'll probably be told at some time, it is a developers forum not really a users forum... they've just chosen to let us in (because we help test what they're dev'ing).
One more suggestion - be more careful with your topic titles. I opened the thread to read assuming you were posting some official announcement... and would bet most others did, too. Be more clear with the title and you increase the odds that you'll get readers that can/will help.
BTW, I'm still getting used to the xda search function (a bit cumbersome, works best in my opinion searching within a subforum), and often prefer a Google search myself. If you add "xda" to your Google search terms, you'll often find what you need.

I understand your concern, the more they wait the less we can play with our toy until that other date (ya know, 23/12/2012)
I'll give you a real answer. No body knows.
It seems like the last few updates were dropped with no prior warning. I assume ICS will be a different situation and they would at least give a little heads up (or so I would hope.) If you have a 4G VZW XOOM, expect to wait another month so Verizon can tinker around with it first.
Or, if you want it now, just go to the dev section and flash the wonderful EOS ROM. It takes all of 15 minutes to do if you're already rooted. In fact, I spent more time downloading the files than I did actually flashing the recovery and the ROM + a few bits and pieces that make it work. It's well worth it.
Hope this answers your question.
After getting dragged along month-to-month waiting for an official Android update with previous devices, I've come to the personal conclusion that I'll never wait for an official Android update ever again. The custom ROMs from these forums are always better and are always available far in advance of any official release.
You may want to give this a try. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400958&page=82
Team EOS (formerly Team Tiamat) has proved to be one of the elite Android dev teams in my opinion and are worth following because they always have something new to try out.
Typically, the update will come in waves and there will be a leak to the blogs a few days before...
Kudos to the people who took the OP and his question seriously. There's no justification for being a d*** to someone who probably isn't familiar with all of the ins and outs of XDA. Come on now...
Anyway, you can watch paint dry in way less time than a carrier or OEM will deliver an official Android version update to their devices (assuming you're using something other than a Nexus device) so custom ROMs are definitely the way to go. It is not uncommon for devs here to release official ROMs before the carriers/OEMs LOL! To that end, check out one of the ICS ROMs from Team EOS in the Xoom development section. Root your Xoom if you haven't done so already, flash one of their ICS ROMs and enjoy . The devs here on XDA are good for releasing ROMs and updates in a timely manner.
hello, i've made an Automated Atrix ThatRom Installer.
This script will help noobs to do everything without any troubles.
The file is a rar archive with all firmware files + installer.
here is a link http://www.mobile-inform.com/content/view/1148/1/
this is early alpha. you take all responsibility on yourself. I do not recommend you to use this rom, but if you still want to use it - here it is
UPD Updated To ThatRom v2 (AtrICS)
all thanks to the author of ThatRomv2 (AtrICS), i made only the Installer!

I don't think that it's a good idea to make an automatic installer of something that it's no stable for someone who doesn't even know how to use fastboot nor flash a zip. Maybe when this finally reaches the stable "level", then you should do the Installer.

Wow dude, that was really uncalled for. He is actually right because now the op has put himself in a position to be harassed by anyone who tries this and messes up their phone even though they should and do know the risks. He was just trying to be helpful, he wasn't attacking the op for making it.
I agree making an unstable, untested, developer test build easily available to newbies is a very bad idea. If they can't at the VERY least learn how to use fastboot and adb, they should come nowhere near this ROM. Unless of course you really want to be held responsible for dozens of bricked and/or unusable phones, and be expected to provide extensive support at all times.
if they are noobs - it is their problem. Everything is written befoure me.
Everyone takes responsibility for their actions.
There were several noobs who were crying about ICS even if they do not know what to do. and they are happy now, despite the bugs.
I am not, but i made for those who are. I am not going to tell anyone to install it, i did only help, but i suggest nobody to install it.
It doesn't work and you know it. It's as if there was some paid software that people want, and you made a crack/patch for it, and then you say you don't advise using it. Do you really think people will stay away just because you advised so? No, they won't. In fact in that case your disclaimers make no difference whatsoever, you are equally at fault for making it available as they are for using it. Why do you think all anti-piracy companies always go after crack makers and distributors and not so much after users? I mean many crack makers also advise against using their cracks. But people are stupid and never listen, and in in the eyes of many crack makers are the original offenders.
Or if you want a different analogy - go find a mentally unstable person who can't really think straight (may seem offensive but noobs who want test builds on their phones clearly do not know what they're doing), then place a bottle of some drugs and a fresh needle within easy reach, and then tell them you advise not using it. Observe what happens.
IMO this kind of things are best dealt with preemptively, by not even making the potentially controversial stuff easily available.
you see, i've made first script of unlocking the boot a year ago. a lot of peole thanked me. they were happy - they unlocked once and than used other ways to change the firmware. They were noobs, but happy noobs. 18 000 downloads (i think some of them were same persons, for example me - while i was testing, or when i was unlocking for my friends), but only 4!!! broken phones. 2 of them caused by bad motherboard and 2 of them by ignoring the manual and all the warnings.
This one is more easy one. less questins. less work. just use it.
and if person already have unlocked boot there will be no problem with this FW
and i want to mention it again some users are happy enought with this fw. Some do not have reboots, some have but for them it is ok.
You should tell everyone that this is a very alpha rom. It does run without multiple reboots for most people per the forums. I personally have tried all methods and cannot get it to run.
I appreciate your efforts but this is not something that noobs will get any value from. You should be very clear upfront.

Thanks agurzhiy!
I am a proud noob who used your unlock script and will use this one.
For all the pros which have a problem with this- you have the same approach as Motorola - "It's complicated you can't understand this". It's my choice what to do with my phone and agurzhiy providing us noobs with a possibility to participate in the effort to make it better.
The bottom line is instead of criticize why don't you spend this time and energy on creating and helping the community. Remember you were ones noobs too.

You should tell everyone that this is a very alpha rom. It does run without multiple reboots for most people per the forums. I personally have tried all methods and cannot get it to run.
I appreciate your efforts but this is not something that noobs will get any value from. You should be very clear upfront.

i think everyone knows that it is alpha rom. nobody is going to install a script if if nobody knows what's inside. But i will add that it is alpha

You're missing my point entirely here. But that's okay. I don't want to argue anymore.
Is this just a fastboot script or an bootloader unlocker and ram fix etc etc

I do not think that this is an argument. It is more like sharing different views on a subject.
I know what you mean, you want to prevent (or at least warn) noobs from taking the risk of bricking their phone and you are right 100%. But let me ask you how many of XDA readers are dumb enough to download some thing like this without reading at least a bit about it(*). Give ppl a little credit, most of us will stop on red light although it is possible to continue. Take me for example: I wanted to use nebtop but had a difficulty to understand how to root. Than mramirezusa came out with Automatic bootloader for noobs like me and boom - now I'm using the atrix as a streamer and without this tool I couldn't do this on my own. My point is that having a possibility to do stuff is highly appreciated.
* Ryan Dunn: If You Gonna be Dumb - You Gotta Be Tough.
this is a fastboot script to make it faster and easyer for a noob

Dude, you've only been thanked here 7 times... Stop thinking so highly of yourself.
Unless you are going to stick around the forums helping these guys out when they have issues with your release, because they won't have anywhere else to go, and because other devs are busy with their own stuff, than you should probably refrain from posting anything that makes it easier to flash dangerous software.
Unless you're willing to help "guy xyz" (since quotes seem to be in) on "page 74" when he asks again, "why am i having video issues after flash", because your main post lacks important details and explanation and your web link is not multi-lingual, please refrain from posting content which could be perceived as harmful to use.
Any good software community recommends first releasing to a smaller test group in order to work out major bugs and minimize any potential impact the software may have on the device... And, any good service community would recommend first releasing to a smaller test group in order to create a base to compare full deployment scenarios against... In no cases would they make it easy to install buggy software on devices of users who can not adequately report issues during alpha stages of software.
Why is it so hard to understand how that applies here?

IMO, you should stop spending so much time here on the forum arguing with people. Don't get me wrong but your posts are usually quite offensive (example what I saw today). You post almost in every thread, smartassing noobs, playing to be moderator... If you know something, share it, if post or thread is against the rules, report it.
Now you're arguing with guy who made first script of unlocking the bootloader and in the same time insinuate that many of xda members are just dump.
Forum, especially xda, is about sharing knowledge not giving useless advise/comment or to google it.
P.S.
Sorry everyone for off topic.

Why don't you argue with epinter or any other person who put ThatRom?
Why are you arguing with me?
i made the thing easier, but i am not responsible for the uncomplete software. some people are lazy to use fastboot, but they know how to use it (i have flashed my phone 3 times while testing some of options to find out how it works)
other do not have enough knowledge to flash, but it's thair dream to have it, they are ready for the bugs and they alwas can ask me to help them to flash any other FW. And if they have unlocked boot - they can use CWM.
And the last group - the people who are just afraid to install after a lot of information about locking bootloaders. In russian community forums i've read 10 such questions from people who i know, from people who know how to use fastboot.
And if person do not want to install it - he may not install it!
I'm thankful to everyone who share knowledge. Even if I don't use everything, I usually download or read just to learn how. Without such guys, Internet itself will be mostly useless.
Do not blame anyone (especially epinter) for your mistake. He and many others guys spend a lot of their private time to figure how to do something, developing, supporting... and then sahre for free! As I can see, very rare they get donation. Almost never for the most loudest complainers which just wait that someone else will do something for them.
As I explained, as long as you are willing to stick around and help people with issues they encounter after flashing this, and provide more detailed instructions that people can read in your first post, it's not an issue.
Low thank count makes the more seasoned members cringe, as people release stuff that brick phones then disappear (it happens), leaving the community in a state of unrest trying to figure out the full impact of an unmaintained release, how many users were affected by the release, and a common way to fix the issues, and it leaves it up to other developers to explain to every xyz person to read this thread, read that thread, or flash this to fix.

Ok, I was running super v20, and all was good, then I was bored and saw A-O OREO was out and upgraded.
Is it possible to go back?
yes, they are both ARB 1 so you can flash back to super v20. Just don't flash to anything that is ARB 0.

I wanted to go back too. The update created a host of problems; Podcast playback failures. Messenger+ went completely wonky and failed sooo many times. Frozen screens during videos. Several Apps would crash on a regular basis.
I'm not very good on much more than the basics of how to do some of the things you genius contributors do (not a dig, I truly respect you), can do and advise us on, so I go to the support teams at the stores, finding the most geeky of the Tech Crew for help, and if necessary, I'll go to two stores (Verizon) ... and in both stores, neither tech guy could find a fix and noted the LG V20 was notably having issues with the update ... even after a full Factory Reset.
After spending close to 4 hours on the phone with Verizon's Tech Team, (I sat at my desk while doing other work so not a total loss of time), I was able to get an "additional" Verizon credit of $200 off the upgrade to the newest V40 ThinQ ... making my purchase price $449. In addition, there's little to no development on the V20 anymore as it's reached the end-of-life-cycle (... I hate how fast these phones are becoming end-of-life-cycle!) ... so I upgraded.
I'm not suggesting everyone spend the money to upgrade, but I really understand why they want to.

Well, new is only useful if its functional, and friendly. I think super v20 was pretty functional for me. Oreo didnt bring any awesome new features that i wanted or was waiting for.

If you were on oreo then you need to flash full nougat firmware to go back to nougat. Either kdz or a twrp flashable firmware depending on your variant.

The bolded bit i don't get. a FDR should reset everything back and you build like new. All app problems should go away unless they weren't compatible with Oreo which at this late date is unlikely.
Why downgrade, I am over the moon at having got Oreo in my VS995 especially as I got the Oct security patch almost immediately. Also surprised as I live in the UK and the update arrived OTA.
Only thing I have found is that there does not appear to be a way to enable the Fingerprint setting, although my fingerprint still works.
So you wouldn't upgrade again? Bc right now I'm exactly the same. Super satisfied with nougat and mk2000 kernel but actually I wanna give oreo a try. Was at least battery drain better on oreo?
Considering that our project that shall not be mentioned was successful, I was wondering about what can be expected in terms of custom roms for this device. I don't know if ASUS released decent sources for the Ze533KL, so can we expect an eventual daily driver release or shall we expect more experimental builds? Of course I'm not asking for ETA, just wondering about what can actually be achieved for this phone.
The thing I really wanted to have with this phone is some kind of burn-in protection (which is implemented in LOS as far as I know). My phone is still under warranty, and I can already see marks of the keyboard and other icons when displaying a white image.
Since the actual thread was closed, maybe this one could be used as a bulletin board for any new unfoldings.
Cheers.
sure thing, I also thought about creating new thread where we can inform each other about our initiative. I believe that McFy is waiting for his unit to arrive. Then there will be LOS hopefully. I'm rooting for him
As far as Lineage OS features I think it is OK to ask a question here and wait for some research and answer about it.
Let's keep our fingers crossed
"Now what?" is a fantastic name for the thread.
Exactly my feeling.
Ironicaly, XDA killed the iniatitive on the day it reached its goal. So, there was no reason at all to do what was done.
About a custom ROM for the device, I have no preferences. Whatever suits the developer is good for me as long as the final product is stable and runs well.
hello everyone,
I bought the device and got it today, I downloaded stock rom, kernel sources and flashed twrp on it, I did a first build for this device but it didn't boot. Don't ask any ETA as I will not be able to tell the amount of work until I get something working. I will share with you the progress but can't give any date.
Regards and thanks for the support
bro pls give an unofficial process to unlock this device because official unlock tool not working it shows "unknown network error".
@McFy any news?
please share a working process of unlock bootloader without asus unlock tool apk....i m waiting for 3 years

Oh well, don't wanna jump the gun here, but it seems like the dude took the money and spent on something else, or he's been really busy since then, as he no longer even commented on any xda posts.
In any case, It's a shame. Now we know why XDA doesn't allow group funding for this kind of thing. Not asking for eta is something, but you can't volunteer to develop for a device, take the money and disappear and expect people not to distrust you.
My advice for all others that contributed would be to next time buy a phone with a greater dev community, and never donate if there's no ongoing project.
Really hope I'm wrong here, please @McFy, show up and prove me wrong.

I don't think you're jumping the gun - it's almost three months since @McFy last posted to us that he obtained the phone and even his github project named "android_device_asus_zenfone3_zoom" (which I presume this was for) doesn't appear to have any work done on/to it whatsoever - I don't think it's unreasonable to have gotten some kind of status update within that time, even if it's negative.
Without knowing what happened for certain I will unfortunately have to think the obvious.
Hey guys sorry for not updating you, I don’t want to tell my private life but my gf have health problems and it made me busy driving her/ spend time with her, I definitely didn’t forget you and am in touch with the project, I achieved to boot but lot of stuffs are broken; zenfone 3 have now new trees since it is now official and I am working on it; I went in touch with the dev. Fyi I did buy the device for real as I said, I am someone you can trust and in the case the situation of my gf isn’t getting better I will give that phone to another developer at my fees; I also want to mention It’s not on my habit to share wip builds or push trees change until it’s not on a state I judge nice enough.
Best regards and I hope you will understand. I totally apologize but I went inactive in all dev scene I am on and it’s hard for me as well to come back like this..
If you have any questions I can answer them if they are not personals.
I sincerely hope that you guys won’t get mad at me.

Next - the heads-up is absolutely appreciated. Thank you! I do hope you can also see from our point of view how it was looking to us and understand that we were getting puzzled. Now we know why.
Thank you again.

So, another month's passed. Any news?
anyone in contact with the developer?
so sad. that money was important to me. now the z3z is kinda past on my life. won't judge others, but by the delay, i guess i can judge myself injuried.
