so contrary to what verizon will tell you you Can use the RS988 on big red without issues
here's what you need todo
1. have verizon with a already active LTE sim device
2. goto your local Verizon store and get a new nano-sim tell them you purchased a new device but forgot it at home, you need a blank unregistered sim for this to work! (you can also buy one on amazon)
3. open a support chat or call Verizon and tell the rep you need to activate a new sim and swap it with a existing line
4.write down the MEID and ICCID of the new device/sim power the previous device on the line you want to swap OFF pull the battery if needed it needs to be dead to the world!!
5. give the rep the ICCID and MEID of your device if they ask what device it is just tell them LG G5 do not tell them its a RS988
6. the service rep may tell you you the the MEID is not accepted or you can't use the device just insist they activate the sim anyway tell them you have anouther device coming if that fails close the chat and try with anouther rep
7. once the rep does his thing and activates the sim power on the device, it should eventually popup with a activation screen if it doesn't activate don't panic power off the device remove the sim card power on the device with the sim card wait 1M power it off and reinstall the sim (you may need todo the power off boot without sim more then once)
8. once you are sure the sim is activated and you have a phone number you can reboot the device and change the network mode preference to LTE/CDMA/EVODO or global IF Running a custom rom, it may be flakey getting connected the first couple reboots it will settle once the prl updates
9. additionally you may need manually add the Verizon APN (it should pick it up from the SIM if everything went right)
edit: if anybody knows any buildprops that might need tweaking or adding let me know below
edit:2 if not using the stock rom you will probably need to make the following built prop changes
telephony.lteOnCdmaDevice=1
telephony.lteOnGSMDevice=0
ro.telephony.default_network=8
VoLTe calling will not work on anything but the stock rom
For visual voicemail you can use Google phone v23.xx patched here in xda. Make sure to give it all permissions I also changed voice mail number to *86. Boom voice mail available plus you get Google spam/caller ID. Woot!

My friend got a T-Mobile myTouch 3G from USA. They said to him that the phone is unlocked, and he still has a code recieved from T-Mobile. But, whenever the phone is switched on, there is no signal, and it asks me to input google account. Is there anyway to bypass it just to get in Android?
If another code is needed for buying, that's not a problem, but we just want to make the phone works.
thanks in advance!
are you talking about SIM LOCK?? if its still locked, put the NEW SIM card into the phone (not the t-mobile card). That will enable you to enter the UNLCOK code, which you will have to purchase elsewhere (look on ebay, i buy mine there)
Now the Google account is straightforward, come on everyone has a Google or Gmail account. When you turn the phone on and that Google account screen appears, hit MENU and WIRELESS SETTINGS will appear. Now connect to a WiFi network and log into you Gmail account.
If you dont goto Google NOW and get a account. Also make sure you post this in the GENERAL section or Q/A section, this is for ROMs and DEVs
No mate, you didn't understand me. His friend overseas got that phone, and sent it to him here in Serbia. Phone came in original T-Mobile pack, without the T-Mobile SIM card. He also got an unlock code from T-Mobile which he still has written on a piece of paper. But, when we enter any other SIM card (Telenor Serbia, VIP Serbia), we don't have signal, and we can't get through first screen which asks you for Google account. Since we don't have signal, we cannot use 3G/Edge data, and there is no way to use wireless (you cannot choose it).
So to be more clear, you power up the phone, there is emergency call button and change language button and Android logo. You click on Android, it asks you for Google account, but you cannot use wireless (and there is no signal to use data services)
So, the thing is, I posted it into Dev section so someone can say me if I can maybe flash some ROM onto it and disable this startup screen.
Thanks for your help anyway!
Did you press Menu at screen with google account? If your T-Mobile has Android 1.6 - there is options to setup wireless connection
Didn't think of that, thanks a million times!
There I cou'dve choose network and setup my APN, so after that everything worked
Thanks once again!
okay so i got the used galaxy s4 sprint from somebody, and it won't activate.
esn came up clean, but they said it won't activate due to some reason.
it' snot like someone is activated on that phone.
but the sprint told me that there is one weird thing he found.
when i go to about device > status > network says "samsung" not sprint
It might be an unlocked version. and i have no idea what that mean.
because sprint don have unlocked phone.
help me someone
I see that your phone number isn't programmed into the my number field and your MIN number isn't assigned either. I'm not on 3g at the moment so I don't know if the evdo rev a mode is the same mode as Sprint. Looks like you have a sim card in it because it's setting a tower. The phone's serial number needs to be programmed to your account and update the profile and prl and possibly needs the provisioning to be updated. A real Sprint employee could tell you what needs to be done correctly. I don't think unlocked phones, per se, run on evdo. That's odd that they can't give you a definite answer why they can't activate it. Take it to a different Sprint store.
Did you try doing a ##786# reset?
The phone might have been used on a prepaid service and was flashed.
Try a factory reset if it still won't activate take it to a sprint store.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
2 things:
1) Flash the one click restore for Sprint and see if that fixes the carrier name.
2) If #1 doesn't fix the activation can you provide the error message?
Also, make sure the MEID matches between screen and back of the phone (behind battery).
If that doesn't that could also explain things.
I'm having the exact same problem. I was going to flash the phone to boost because sprint wouldn't activate, but I can't update the profile or prl. It when I try it just seems to activate hands free activation which fails.
How to get read of activation not completed message process? Due to such a kind advice on this board I got the phone to work with GSM and do not need Sprint service on it. Thanks
and nsnuyc
I would do what garwynn said double check the MEID inside the settings versus the tag located under the battery. Also confirm that the phone wasnt blacklisted after you purchased it. I have seen shady deals where you buy a clean esn phone as soon as you walk away with it the person calls Sprint on the spot and reports it lost/stolen. Where did you verify the MEID was clear directly through Sprint CS or a third party website like swappa or checkesnfree?
I purchased a Galaxy s5 outright. It's locked. I don't have a Straight Talk account. I'm starting brand new. Can I take my phone to Walmart, purchase the Straight Talk Activation kit for Galaxy s5 and have the associate get my phone working? The activation kit costs $60. I presume that includes the SIM card I will need for it to work in this phone. Or, do I have to get an AT&T account first in order to unlock the phone so it can be used with Straight Talk? Please be as specific as possible when answering because i am new at this and need all the help I can get! Thank you!
just moved FROM straightalk myself to verizon.
1. not sure if S5 is even supported... maybe
2. check the straightalk website for BYOP (bring your own phone). you input your IMEID number or whatever and itll tell you if the phone is useable.
3. you have to have an "unlocked" phone
4. not sure about the activation kit; sometimes they are like $7, no 60... but i could be wrong.
5. walmart folks are not ST folks, so no, i would not count on them assisting you; you could try the phone, but service will vary depending on who you talk to; be prepared to talk to like 8 different people: i had to just to port my number over, very frustrating.
I've been on ST for about 2 years, using 99% iPhones, which were very hard to set up (back when ST started). Now, I have S5 Active and iPhone 5 and both work very well.
You don't need no $70 BS activation package. Just go to http://www.straighttalkbyop.com click Option 2 and buy yourself an AT$T compatible SIM card, assuming you have an AT$T S5. The SIM card is LTE ready, costs $6.99 and ships FREE via FedEx 2-day service.
1. If you're getting a new phone number, register your sim at www.straighttalk.com when you receive it and system will assign you a new number.
2. If you are porting your old phone number you can still do it from straighttalk.com (you'll need your old carrier account password or access PIN for that). Avoid calling ST, they have horrible CS. It will take an hour to set it up and this is if you understand what CS rep says 100% of the time which is close to impossible Their website is easy to navigate, you'll figure it out.
Now, pop the SIM in and enjoy your new $45 *unlimited* service. You will need to create a new APN entry for ST. Here you can get the right APN settings.
I just got my N6 from GPS and successfully connected to VZW.
Contrary to what is being said by some users in this forum, even if you buy N6 from GPS, still VZW could not find your device ID on their network (white list) which leads to some hiccups in activation process. This is what I did to make it work:
1) Requested a nano SIM from VZW. No questions asked. SIM was mailed to me.
2) First I put the SIM in N6, called VZW to actiivate the phone. It did not work as they could not identify my device
3) Then, I put the new SIM in my wifes' iPhone5 ( which is already active on VZW network with its ano sim ), asked the guy on phone to active. He did it and it worked.
4) Then I took the new SIM from iphone5 and placed it in my N6. The N6 is activated with no problems
5) I put the old sim back in my wife's phone and the phone came back to its original state and bound back to its original phone number.
I could have activated the new SIM in my old phone (Note 2) as it only takes micro SIMs and hahing phone with a nano SIM is the key to get your N6 activated on VZW
So far it is working very well and showing up as NON-VZW Device. I hope that the big red will soon start supporting N6 so that my device will show up correctly on their network.
One small problem. If you want to change your plan, your online account poratl will not allow you and advises you to call VZW. When I saw that message, I called them and was told that my change of plan option was locked up because I have NON-VZW device in my account ( I want to know if other have the same experince). He said it is not a problem and if I want to change my plan right now he can temporarily chnage the device to something else that is supported so that I can change my plan. He also said this will be like this until VZW start offering N6 officially on ther network. No big deal for me. I like VZW network coverage and in fact it is the only network that has a coverage at my work area. Other than the rumors of N6 coming to VZW on Feb 26th, are there any other more concrete news of when it might be coming to VZW if al all that happens ?
Thank God there's another thread started for this.
Yes.... The problem is getting an activated nano sim. Harder for some then others. You got lucky you had a second Verizon phone with a nano slot.
The hard part is getting yourself a nano sim. I talked a corporate store into giving me one. I then took the imei off a moto x I had and activated my number and that sim online using the imei off of the moto x (go get the imei off a demo phone, might not even be required for the imei to be for a nano sim phone) I then popped it onto my N6 with no problems

If you had a moto x already (which uses a nano sim) this whole process should have been a complete non-issue. I don't understand why people are making this out to be such a complicated process.
If you're activating a Nexus 6 on Verizon odds are you are already a Verizon customer which would mean that you have a Verizon sim.
It's not very difficult to cut a non nano sim down to nano size. That's how I got my Nexus 6 activated.
Grandfathered unlimited data and proud.
There's already a thread on this...

So I would like to use this Verizon phone with my carrier in Canada.
Simple version: I don't want to root it and I don't care about custom roms. I simply want to use the phone in Canada with another carrier. Is it possible?
Long version:
I got the phone (as a gift from my boss who didn't know what to do with it). Looked it up and found a thread on this forum pointing to this page on the Asus website (it's the not exact same model number, but there's no support page available for 520KL). I downloaded the official "Unlock Device App: Unlock boot loader" under the "Other" category and copied it to the phone and tried to run the apk installation. It gave me an error similar to "An application with the same name is already installed". I tried to look in the application list but couldn't find it to execute it. In any case, I then borrowed a SIM card from Bell Canada from the corporation I work for, and the phone had a notification "This is not a Verizon Wireless SIM card". I then updated the phone firmware (via wifi), and rebooted, and after a few seconds the error message disappeared, and behold I could make and receive calls. I'm not certain if this Bell card was special unlocked for roaming or something (being a corporate one).
In any case my personal phone is better, but I thought it would be a nice replacement for my father's one so I gave it to him. His old phone SIM format was not the same size, so I told him to go to a kiosk of his phone carrier (Telus Mobility) and ask the clerk for a SIM on his account that fit the phone. The clerk looked at the phone and said no, this cannot work, you have to call Verizon to unlock it. My father then called Verizon and they said they can't do that because it could be a stolen phone (it isn't) and that my corporation would have to call them to receive a code (?) to prove ownership. So now I'm a bit mixed up. Was the Telus clerk wrong and the phone would have worked if he just had insisted to get a SIM made, or are they both right and the phone IMEI is locked in a database somewhere and Telus won't be able to create a new SIM for it until my corporation really call them to transfers ownership?
