Tons of ads - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I get tons of ads, all of a sudden. Sometimes my phone wakes up on it's own with an ad. Any solutions?

Maybe the notification log would show what app is causing them depending on the type of ads they are. Create home screen widget>settings>notification log. Safest bet would probably be to flash the factory image though.

That just happened on my daughters moto G4. Most times clearing data on Chrome fixes the problem. But this time didn't matter still getting obnoxious vibration and audio messages. I completely wiped the phone including internal and flashed factory image. But I'm sure a factory reset should suffice .

Stop watching porn.......

Most likely it's an app you just installed.

One thing I learned is never install apps outside of playstore and maybe Apkmirror. I installed a rogue app from uptodown and would get ads all the time anywhere. Luckily I was able to just uninstall the app but sometimes the apps might get hidden. The you would most likely have to family factory reset.

What makes google talk and loading of market apps shut down??

Has anyone else experienced this? At times I will try to download and app from the market and it won't download?? I don't know exactly what that means but it happens only when I try to download apps???

i was wondering the same thing, it happens to me when i try to update my apps and thereafter i can't download the update or anything else.
Did you remove any apps that may remotely be connected to market/talk? There's no reason those would be FC unless something is missing. As a matter of fact... I don't think they ever FC on me in 2 years of owning Android phones.

I'm not sure the OP means FC. If he/she is talking about what I have experienced, which it sounds like, sometimes you select an app to DL from the market and it'll just sit there. Nothing in the notifications, but if you open the market and go back to the app there will be a download progress bar not, uh...making progress. It's just kinda solid grey with no animation.
In my case, I just canceled the download(s) in the market, and restarted my phone and they worked. Oddly, a full shutdown/turn back on didn't help! Only restart.
I haven't had any problems with GV (except for the wonkiness signing in with a Google Apps account). I'm interested to know what the OP's issue with GV is as well.

You are correct that is exactly what happens most of the time when I try to download apps from the market. The l only reason I mention google talk is because - and I heard someone else mention this on another post - if I simultaneously try to open google talk there is a message (unable to sign in) or something to that affect.
There has been a coupe times where if I just put my phone down and walk away or do other things
It eventually kicks back on and downloads the apps.
This has been my one and only problem so far. Other than this it runs better than any phone I have had.

Play store apps reamain on 100% downloaded but don't install

I have a problem with play store: if i download an app from it, it remains stuck at 100% downloaded but it doesn't install... it needs sometimes even 3 or 4 minutes to start installation. Same thing for uninstall... I have just tried to clear play store memory (cache + memory) and play services memory but it doesn't help...
Seems i have found the problem... i have uninstalled and re installed nova launcher and now it seems to work perfectly... i think that's something related to "add shortcuts in home pages" in play store settings...
It already happened to me on my former phone. But I solved the problem by rebooting the phone
Problems persist... i've done a factory reset but nothing: sometimes it's impossible to install/uninstall applications from Play Store, the progress bar of download stuck at 100% but the app won't install... sometimes it needs some minutes, sometimes it's just instantly... it's something play store server related? If i try to uninstall app from touchwiz it's simply instantly even if however, if go to app list in play store, the app i've just uninstalled is still present in the apps list... .
I noticed that sometimes even the manual update of phone firmware doesn't work and the "checking update page" appears sometimes instantly ans sometimes after some minutes...
Same problems here. Noticed the same when requesting system update for the gear s3 from the phone. Also happening on my tab s3...

Have you tried to update Google play services? And play store to the latest version. Do both of these then boot to recovery and wipe cache and reboot.

Some apps have permissions to draw over screen and we need to disable this permission for apps to install correctly. I had a similar issue on my previous phone where the apps were stuck at 99% installation and then just dropped off. I had to literally disable 'Screen overlay' for almost each app for play store to install correctly.
Also, If you are able to sideload apks without any issues then it may be a play store related issue.
Hiya.
I have the same issue, and have for around 1 week now. Only with PlayStore, sideloading works fine
Has someone found a solution for this? I have noticed that sometimes it installs apps without any problems and sometimes remains stuck also for minutes! I can't realize what causes these slow down... maybe is something related to play store servers?
I have the same problem with 100% download and no install afterwards.
But at the same time I noticed two other problems:
- Badge Notification is not working - I don't see the "badge" on app's icon, when I receive messages.
- boon payment app is not working; when I touch screen to activate payment process (NFC chip), it supposed to countdown 60 s, but nothing happens.
I don't know if this is part of same problem. However I've tried - without success:
- reboot phone
- clear data/cache Google Play Store
- clear data/cache Google Play Services
- clear data Badge Provider
- clear data/cache TouchWiz
- reboot to recovery and clear cache
I think there is some process that should be reset (clear)... Any other suggestions? I'd try factory restore as very, very, very last option.

I've tried factory reset (2 times), but didn't help...
Having same issue with S8 and Tab S3. Also notifications are delayed for random amount of time. Some lag and connection timeouts with different applications, not all though.
Tried factory reset couple times, it fixed the problems for a while but after 1-2 hours they came back. Checked with safe mode if some 3rd party app is causing this. Issues remained in safe mode too.
Got it to work for now by clearing cache and data from Google Framework Services and Google Play Store. Lastly removed and re-added my Google account, rebooted device and wiped cache partition.
Notifications are now on time, Play store starts install instantly.
Still afraid that this is only a temporary fix, waiting to see if these problems arise again after few hours of usage.
Seems there is an issue with Google services on some Samsung devices, mainly running Nougat 7.0

Apps still updated after disabling automatic updates

I disabled automatic updates in playstore settings but for some reason apps are still auto-updating. Its getting to be pretty annoying too because every time I remove a bloatware app it just downloads and reinstalls it.
How do I stop this??

Try clearing Play Store data/cache (settings->apps) followed by a reboot. You will need to update/reapply personal settings, including the master toggle for automatic updates.

Most of them are in the oem partition anyways. So remove them from there. But do it in twrp file manager, because trying to edit oem while booted will lock up the device.

Clearing the play store cache did worked for a few of the apps but the ones in the OEM I effectively deleted in twrp. Turns out the OEM partition on this phone is largely useless bloat and not much else.

Also before deleting from oem, first just try renaming them (with a ~ at the end for example) to make sure it's safe to remove. Then boot up and check, if all is good then you delete if you want. Many people delete things, then come back here asking if anyone has a copy because they deleted something they needed.
Just to be safe.

Yea this ain't my first rodeo. I've bricked far too many devices to make that mistake again. I only did away with the crap I was 100% certain was just that, crap, ie boost zone, amazon, facebook, etc. Though I'm still trying to figure out what it was I removed that rendered system webview permanently frozen, but I made a separate thread regarding that.

Unwanted ads popping up...

Hello,
Last weekend, I decided to do a factory reset of my H915 (Oreo, stock, no root). I then reinstalled all my apps and then added a few apks. Soon after, I started to get unwanted fullscreen ads popping up often, wheter I was on Facebook or browsing with Chrome. I did a scan with my ESET antivirus, it found nothing. Installed Malwarebytes, scanned, nothing again, uninstalled it.
Then, I uninstalled these new apks I didn't have before, but the damn ads are still popping up. It never happened before doing the factory reset. So, one of the apks must have had a bug...
Is there a trick (a good app) to remove these damn popups appearing, or I'll have to factory reset again and be more careful while installing apks?
Thanks.

if you are an advanced user, you can find the source app showing the ads by adb logcat or ps commands. if not, just reset, install suspicious apps one by one and see.
I have had that happen. Should be an easy fix...go to settings/general/apps, then scroll all the way to the bottom, long press the blank (invisible) app or apps and uninstall.

I accidentally installed one of these invisible apps that I thought was a real app. It was at the bottom of my app list in settings, got kinda scared but I haven't had any issues after uninstalling.
Ended up doing a factory reset... Should have checked back here before...
Thanks for the infos anyway.
ohh so thats what they do lol.... i always make sure that i dont install invisible icon apps hehe

Play Store stuck at download pending...

I hope someone can help. Since buying my SM-G975U at release, every several days, Play Store updates get stuck at download pending. The only way to get them downloading again is to uninstall updates to the Play Store app. Then, updates will install as expected for a few days, but then this will happen again.
I just factory reset my phone, installed all updates and installed apps one by one rather than restoring from a backup, and I'm back to the same issue.
What else can I try to fix this??
Thanks for any assistance.

Yeah, I've tried it just about every time this has happened, and it's never fixed the problem. Yet that seems to be the most common fix. Thanks for the suggestion and quick reply.
I have the exact same problem too, clearing cache and data works sometimes, changing wifi networks also works sometimes but very erratic!

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one. Sure wish there was a clear problem/solution.
In sifting through Google searches, I read something about disabling Android Setup. I read someone else say the problem might be having two launchers (I use Nova), but I've always had two launchers on my phone.
I'll have to try changing wifi networks next time it happens.
Actually, I have two launchers too, Nova being my main one and Dodol as the second although I can actually remove that now. It'd be weird if that conflicted.
I had that issue when i was running my vpn. Had to disconnect for my playstore to act normally again.

I was counting the stock OneUI launcher as one of my two (and I use a home switcher app to switch between them). But if this were really a problem, wouldn't a ton of people have it?

I wonder if that could be it. But, just like the other possible solutions, I've had PIA running on my phones for years without this problem. I wonder if setting the Play Store to bypass the VPN in PIA's per app settings might help.

I am on the May patch, and it doesn't seem to be an improvement, for sure. I believe, though, that my Play Store issue predates the May patch.
Im on the may patch, no issues here
I've had this issue before and the way I solved it is by making sure that whatever items I disabled in AdHell or PackageDisabler, to re-enable them and then restart the phone and see if the issue is still present. It was not for me, so I went down the list of disabling things again one by one. All is good now. Unfortunately I am unsure which package was it that was causing the issue, but definitely a samsung one if I am not mistaken.

Thanks. I'll give this a try. I only had disabled Flipboard, Game Launcher, and a dictionary. I've re-enabled those. They don't seem like critical apps, but it's worth a try.
I appreciate the input.
I'm having the issue from time-to-time without any third-party app that could interfere.
Rebooting is sometimes the only way to fix it.
September update here. Cleared cache on play store,in Google app, reboot. Nothing solves to me
