Okaay so I've been rooting my phones for a few years now, back to the Sony Ericsson phones soo I do have a tiny bit of experience when it comes to rooting but my memory is kinda weak haha...
I rooted my galaxy S8 like a year ago and had no problems What so ever...until I started messing I was messing around with Snapchat and realised I couldn't log back in due to the root checks and the only way I could get back in was unrooting however I am now bored of an unrooted phone and want my freedom back ?
I installed a custom rom while rooted and came with some apps etc such as 'mTweaks' which no longer works because I don't have root...I also have problems assessing some apps such as games because a "hack is detected"
I would like to have root back but I'm currently moving homes and don't have access to a pc for now, is there a way to do it via phone ?
Also is my phone still semi rooted as some apps seem to detect a modified device...
Thanks for taking your this time read this ?
if the thread isn't clear enough then here are the main concerns:
-Can I root without needing a PC
-Why do apps detect a modified device if I don't have root
-Why do I still have access to a custom Rom and kernel?
Thanks alot! ?

I"m seeing that the MK3 and MK4 can be rooted, but what about the kitkat one? I'm having trouble with my phone's power button, it registered as presse occasionaly and it just freakes my phone out (shut it off randomly and prevents it from being used) while it's under warranty I'd like to get a new one for this issue but mine is rooted (stock rooted to be honest) So I'm thinking of taking advantage of the warranty but I want to make sure I at least have root access for things like greenify and xposed framework. (I don't really like flashing **** on my phone so that's a non issue) But I do like making backups with titanium etc etc. Plus with Kit Kat not being able to alter the SD card contents I want to have root available. I assume most S4's have the kit kat update if they are coming as a refurbished phone. So I don't know what to do and I want to make sure I have root.
Not really. if you read through here (its just been updated also) it will tell you everything you need to know

Hey folks, hope I`m not coming off as one of the "hey, I broke my stuff, how can I fix it without anyone knowing I broke it" types LOL. I`ve actually been modding Android devices since my Droid X what seems like ages ago, and have done a few along the way so it`s not new in theory. So....I`ve got an I337 S4. It appeared with 4.4.4 on it, and you can imagine how that went when I started modding. My ultimate goal was/is simply to have the native tether app working (and it was, very briefly). Long story short, I bricked it, and brought it back with 4.3 on Odin. It functions fine with the exception of Wifi. It won`t activate wifi, a very, very common problem I`m reading. I`m totally comfortable doing the mods to get it going, I just don`t know what I need. It`s rooted. (here`s where I`m lost): Baseband version is FNJ4, bootloader is FNJ4, but the BUILD number is MK2. Tried the BypassLKM method, no dice. So my question is this: What is the simplest way to get WiFi access back so I can get the Native Tether function going again? If everything was FNJ4 or MK2 I`d be able to make something happen, but several approaches have gotten me bootlooped and I`1m just ready to get it right (safestrap has saved my a$$).
Thanks for any help!!

See, a studious and persistent student of modding gets the worm LOL. I got my WiFi back with this procedure right here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/how-to-root-i337ucufni1-t2881298
I used the safestrap method without a hitch. Hope it helps someone else out there
I just bought what was meant to be a new factory unlocked HTC 10 online but it's actually half-rooted phone that was Sprint branded. As in Malwarebytes and Android Pay claim it's rooted but Root Checker says it's not rooted properly.
I'm also unable to open any free apps that require rooting (i.e., Titanium back up, Super SU), and checking for the latest Android software on my phone has a never-ending busy signal. Thus, I'm unable to wait for update to Oreo when it's released in a few months to unroot the noob way? I'm currently running Nougat.
I'd prefer the phone to be unrooted but I guess my concern is that if I revert the phone back I may not able to use the phone as it may be locked to Sprint? (I'm an Australian user). Is there anyway I can check this with the phone the way it is at the moment? If I just leave the phone not rooted correctly what issues will I run into while using the phone for next few years? What convenience apps (besides Android Pay) won't work?
Note: I'm also not keen on returning the phone as it's too much hassle and don't have a decent back up phone.
Hi guys,
I'm kind of a noob when it comes to rooting and flashing custom ROM's (I've done it once following a tutorial with an old Samsung tablet I had lying around) and this time, I need to backup ALL the data I have in my personal phone: a HUAWEI Y6II compact LYO-L21.
It's a phone I've been using since 2017 and after I started to get some interest towards Android smartphones, I've realized I made a huge mistake: I've never backed up my phone!
I've backed up some videos, songs, photos, etc like everyone else does, but I've never backed up my messages, call logs, whatsapp and other apps data.
I would've also loved to improve my phone by flashing a custom ROM as well as installing Magisk and TWRP in it BUT, as most of you know, the bootloader is locked by Huawei and it seems there's no way to unlock it (there are some paid services e.g. those proposed by funkyhuawei.club but I can't pay for it by now) .
So my question is: can I back up ALL of my phone data without rooting nor bricking it?
And if it's possible, can I afterwards flash TWRP and root it but keeping the bootloader locked and the stock ROM?
I really don't wanna brick my phone and lose my data so please give me clear instructions.
P.S.: I'm using Linux Mint so if you guys know something I can do on Ubuntu to solve my problem that'll be awesome!
my first g6 had a broken screen last week. me being abusive to it. from frustration.
bought a used g6 as a backup very quickly but im not liking v9.0
id like to install the first 7.0 version it ever had available H870. I have 3 apps total installed more of a pro privacy advocate so no browser and would like to shut those annoying update popups which are extremely intrusive and come at the worst times. would like to block as much as possible to also have battery life
I dont understand what the roo does, what the bootloader does and I understand I need to flash a kdz rom. if I understand, I need to install 7.0 (not 7.1 or later) then use the root and bootloader to block updates notifications and to remove default apps in the phone.. basically tweak system things...is this correct?
I used to tinker with windows mobile back in the days but after years of fear of bricking and only have one phone, I had to suffer through annoyances in the OS they give. it is time to have a phone that doesnt annoy me and isnt intrusive. I really do need calmness after 18 months of hell with covid.
inevitably I will move to pinephone once it gets mature. for now using this g6. I dont run after the newest models.
any insight or experiences or tips you could throw at me would be appreciated as I think i may be mixing things up
stay afe
i have a used H870 here. Did the root+twrp, up to PIE and tryed/flashed many things, but wasn´t that happy at all. That was a few month ago. A week ago I replaced my battery and tada, sweet runner. So again I wanted more and bricked it to "no sim" after restoring from a kernel here. Since there isnt much for Pie, roms, deadlinks, broken twrp etc. the only tool which worked and helped me was LG bridge to restore to latest stock pie.
I would recommend u to root without recovery via magisk/fastboot method and go for some adaway, acc battery charger, lsposed + gravity, debloat and maybe a kernel manager + etc.
dont forget, when u have sporadic lags, go for the battery.
gl on ur way mate

ps just for info
the only working usb drivers where delivered via the LG bridge tool driver update for me, i tryed many..
