kernel adiutor + stock kernel - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey there,
Just to let you know that with bootloader unlocked + root (magisk) there is a nice set of tunable option with kernel adiutor. With a bit of entropy and governor tuning, you get even better performance from your a2. That's pretty cool ??

Can you share your settings? Hours of screen, performance... And kernel adiutor setup

disabled cpu boost to avoid cpu stuck at 2,2
Change governor to on demand
Entropy increase to get 40% free
Mostly it.
SOT depend on my use and vary between 4-5 hours to 6+ hours. This is mainly due to two factors:
-network coverage (this can suck your battery like nothing)
- use if BT + viperfx for hours ?
The best way to test it.. is to test it you may have the same increase as me (4 hours sit at most before mod)

You rooted your mi a2 right.so are you facing any issue after root?

Lol No, except that I installed a gcamera which wrecked my original camera.. after countless system flash it went but all ok. The ondemand thing is a real treat mate, and fast as hell ?

I don't see any improvements with on demand actually. Interactive gives me 0.3%/h drain in deep sleep and I doubt it can get much better

On demand does not improvement battery life as soon as you keep cpu boost in cpu 1. Did you disabled it? For me it was night and day

Unlock bootloader + root the phone and then just install an app called "Kernel auditor" from the Play store and tune the kernel from within the app.

Touch Frequency?

How do I lower my touch frequency? Whenever I touch the screen immediately two cores jump to the highest frequency available which is 1267 MHz, I have the max frequency locked at that in general... So how do I lower it, or would this not help the battery? I am trying to figure out how to lower it to around 883 MHz for the purpose of saving battery? I am using Trickster Mod btw

Thanks will give it a try with this rom, usually doesn't help me with battery life but I will give it a shot! Will report back how it goes. By chance do you know how big of a difference letting the kernel and rom settle for a few days makes?
dunno... what are your expectations on battery life?
with dorimanx kernel the results are usually more noticeable after a charge or two

A minimum of 5 hours screen on time... But yeah guess im gonna have to wait a charge or two to see the full effects.
Can you suggest a good settings combination for battery life? Just flashed v5.0 of Dori:silly:
read a few pages back on dorimanx kernel thread, someone posted good overall battery kernel settings, but wait for an 5.x update because something needs to be fixed in alucard governor...
btw STweaks app also has preloaded profiles you can change if you don't want to fiddle with the settings manually...
have fun

I went about 10 pages back, could you by chance post a link or tell me what page number it was on? I saw screen shots on someones battery life but not settings.
i don't know the exact page, i'd have to search it too...
btw don't be lazy, you can test several settings in stweaks yourself. or use predefined ones... many people find the default ones good enough but not all of us use the phone the same way...

Mahdi ROM Kernel Tweaker & Battery Life Thread

Hey guys.
I have a clean Mahdi ROM (the latest from like 1 week ago) and have the feeling that the battery drains slightly faster than in stock. Apart from other things I started trying different kernel tweaks and I discovered the following:
The governor, although showing explanations for a whole 7 different modes, only allows me to either pick "interactive" or "performance".
Since I never really need the CPU settings from interactive mode, I actually want to use conservative.
How can I realise that now?
Please feel free to post your battery life stats, I'm really curious.
Sidenote: I have "transparent weather clock" on my homescreen and it seems to need a lot of battery. Does anyone have a recommendation for a lightweight & goodlooking homescreen widget?
The kernel for that ROM only contains two governors, please do not use performance because it only uses your max frequency, which is bad for temp & battery life.

Ok, thanks for the info. I wondern why it only contains those two though.
I'd never use performance, interactive already provides more power than I need.
I'm just looking for a way to actually use the conservative mode.
Something weird just happened to me: my phone was at about 38% and when I looked 1h later, it was pretty warm and powered off 1min later because battery had dropped to 1%.
I think this is pretty weird. I did not use the phone in that hour and had no apps running.
As illogical it might sound, my first suspect was the energy saving mode I enabled. I dont know why but I think it messed something up.
Does anyone have similar issues or any useful advice for me?

The developer believes those to be the best choices, I have no clue why. Interactive mostly stays near the max freq & makes my phone uber hot like an oven. Feel free to use Render kernel, its in the general section.

.. Snapse Profile Maximize Hacker Kernel (JAN 13, Sol v2)

Mod please inform me if the thread name format is incorrect as I am on mobile. Note I will pretty the post on PC tomorrow guys.
Hacker 10.1 Settings.
Sol v2 profile for Hacker 10.1
(and how to get the best performance)
Sol v2 settings:
About battery:
Your battery is drained for two reasons, screen and rogue apps wasting cpu/network resources. I hate Facebook app with a passion. Sometimes banking apps are even worse. Check your permissions and ram usage. Use mobile Web when possible instead of app. Chrome is bad as well but can be tamed.
If you want to save battery dim your screen and ensure greenifly is installed. Dont greenifly keyboard, launcher or any messaging apps like viber and use xposed. Battery savings using governor is negligible and has no benefit except making your phone lag and pissing you off when u need it quick.
“Safe" Undervolt GPU and CPU.
CPU undervolt
Big 200-2100 - 75mv all steps
Little 200-1500 - 50mv all steps
(these are deemed safe, you may squeeze more but battery savings are negligible the goal is to reduce heat to prevent throttling while keeping stability.)
Overclocking is not recommended as the heat generated (and throttling) defeats the purpose.
GPU undervolt on lower frequencies only 266-600! Your phone will sit at 266 most of the time even while gaming. If 600 + is required and undervolted it will likely crash or lag from gpu compiler errors. (do not underclock gpu there is no benefit and it makes the governor work more)
Performance interactive on both.
I/O
cfq-1024
TCP
westwood
VM settings
optimized (some changed to manufacture defaults from Hacker settings)
To import now:
i posted a profile fron snapse. Try importing it and enjoy.
Also I noticed that avast and other an it viruses put a dent on speed (and are unnecessary im if u use common sense) your phone is mostly immune from Malware if you install only official apps and ones from xposed repository or from xda. so u can almost always uninstall those. Also to remember to disable startups using boot manager or another app. (u may need more then 1 app to nab all apps.
Make sure you place the profile into the correct location on your storage (the top folder in the screenshot)
I want to highlight to use cfq i
Because although it sucks im benches it is way better to use. (I used to use flops myself.) There's a YouTube video about it somewhere a guy who benched it by opening various apps side by side and timing it on 4 phones. I'll have to link it later.
Disclaimer:
This makes my phone awesome. You are more likely to win the billion dollar powerball then be bricked. But I am not responsible if you win the lottery. Back it up before you put it in and/or ensure stability check is ticked.
If this has helped you please give the Hacker OP a beer first then consider one for me.
I will make my own thread about profiles. So we can remain on topic on WETA_V13. Also It will help Hacker with his development.
Good job. Will be checking around. I use hacker kernel but i use android tuner to tame my phone. One app does everything. I get amazing battery life while im on darkness setting.
Great initiative dude. Running 10.1, but Synapse keeps crashing when trying to restore profiles. Just gives a general Synapse has stopped working message. Any ideas?

Use powersave mode (even from full not auto on at 20% or whatever) would be the obvious thing. But also personally, I use ondemand cpu governer (nearly as smooth as interactive but less aggressive). I set a max cpu cap at 1296 on the little cores and 1600 on the big cores. Also go to application manager and stop and disable samsung push (helps standby a lot), galaxy app, and any other of the bloatware and background apps you don't use.
If you want to get really into it, there's a great thread I was part of a while back in general titled something like crazy battery life 8 hrs SOT+ something like that. It involves using app called disable services and disabling a lot of google stats/analytics services and stuff. I got mine up to just a hair over 7 hrs SOT on a 23 hr run off charger, so there's good life to be had. I usually use GPS too much now so I haven't been able to get that much lately though.

Battery life boosting

I have a GitHub Pages website where I can store my journey of trying to find better battery life.
What I'd like to ask you guys, is what thinks you think I could try to boost battery life.
At the moment I'm looking at CPU restriction with EX Kernel Manager - I've got good results from disabling two of the "big" cluster's cores, for example.
If you lose a lot of battery due to poor signal, definitely check out the "Automatic 2G/4G switching based on Wi-Fi connectivity (ROOT REQUIRED)" part of my site!

Why did you not buy old Nokia 3310 to use 2G only?

Agreed - to put it simply: if you aren't on wifi and need mobile data to have a lot of smartphone functionality, then using 3G or 4G is just what you have to do.
However, if you're on wifi, maybe you'd get better signal and less battery drain on 2G. Asides from VoLTE, I don't see a problem with my 2G/4G switching.
I was using kernel adiutor, but as i saw your post, just bought exkm and saw that it have some things that KA doesn't have.
I got my rn4 2 days ago, flashed xiaomi-eu and ultimate performance mod.
using all cores, min652-1036max cpu, as i did not saw/feel lag and stuttering while browsing through social media, chatting and playing some games. Got 1d16h19min and 13h8min SoT. could be a little more SoT if i had the phone turned on all time, as i saw about 10% is gone while in standby. wish we could lower frequencies a little more down than 652mhz so it takes a little more to drop battery.
Now i'm going to try it with exkm, same cpu freq, but with 2 big cores off. Also gpu min133-510max, and initial freq 216.
I also turn off GPS(only using power save mode) and set data to 2g, as i have no need in the moment, using only my phone at house and work. Brightness at maximum 15-20%. using Lspeed agressive doze.
i will update when i have about 5% battery.

Will have to try 1036MHz max. To be honest, I chose 1600 as that's what worked on my OnePlus One.
What's the ultimate performance mod? Something in L-Speed?
I think you could drop your GPU max a bit. See if things are still smooth. Initial freq can be lower too.
I seem to be getting away with 3 of the big cores turned off, perf.d disabled, glassfish interactive governor profile.

With minimum brightness, 2G, solid signal, heavy underclock, light usage... I can reach close to 4 day idle and 12h SoT.
I think higher SoT is possible in less days of course, but if you're out and about you can probably half those extreme stats due to brightness and signal differences.

[GUIDE]Make kenzo/kate a battery beast!!

Hey guys. Just wanted to share some tweaks with which you guys can get amazing battery life on your redmi note 3. I used this setup for 3 full charge cycles, and averaged about 10Hrs SOT with a 1 year old battery, when I was getting about 5-6 hrs of SOT only on normal pie/10 roms. Do give this setup a try if you want the absolute best battery, and don't mind about performance degradation a bit... The device now behaves like it's got a 5000Mah battery now. If you guys manage a better setup than this, then do share your setup down below. And please hit the thanks button if this helped you. Cheers:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:.
SETUP:
Havoc OS latest 8.1
Latest agni kernel 13.0
Spectrum profile to battery
In any kernel manager (I use fk kernel manager):
.Big cores disabled
.Little cores max clock at 1382Mhz. Min clock to 400Mhz.
.Undervolt to lowest stable value (It's different for everyone, so try out a stable value for you).
.GPU max freq to 432MHz. Min to 133Mhz.
.Adreno Idler to on.
**Guys who have the 2gb kenzo, try the mcaosp 8.0 ROM instead of havoc. It has better
RAM management for you guys.**

Thanks a lot mate. You're setup is giving me close to 12hrs of sot, which is insane. I still can't believe it. Thanks man.

Where I should get that spectrum profile?

It's an app in the play store. Link:

If anyone wondering, you can use Kernel Aduitor to disable cores and undervolting, it's free and it is quite comprehensive.
@shivaay1234 are you the guy who made that rapid os rom?

Oh cool. Bro, but why did you stop development of rapid os? I liked that ROM so much...

When Q sources become stable, I will release the Q version of the ROM.
I used to disable the big cores as well on a per-app basis. For light usage like listening to music or reading ebooks, downloading stuff in the background etc it used to yield tangible improvements in battery life. Also while charging to keep battery temp. in check. Now I have Tasker automate it all.
Funnily enough in Redmi Note 3 with only the little cores active device didn't feel much slower but in my Poco F1 whose little cores are much faster (higher IPC, 25% higher clock speeds) it would feel a little laggy with big cores disabled.
Its better to undervolt only the higher frequencies and leave alone/reduce only a little the lower ones as they are much closer to the threshold voltage and more likely to cause a forced reboot if undervolted too much.
@amn1987 Thanks for bumping this thread dude, i really needed to improve my SOT. Hopefully this will help.

Bear in mind the performance degradation can be quite noticeable. Instead of completely disabling the big cores maybe experiment with clocking them lower at 1-1.2GHz where they are most efficient in terms of perf./W IIRC. At these low clocks they will still completely outperform the little cores due to nearly 80% higher performance per clock.
SHADOW Kernel by @energyspear17
Already have QUAD core and battery mode.
You can also UV while flashing
Which would result in better battery backup.
Anyways different peoples different choices.
Good works?
