TWRP codeworx vs bluspark - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Seems like these both work and are pretty updated what are people's opinions on these what are the differences?
Are there any feature difference between both they both now seem to support treble

Blu spark has amoled. That's enough for me. I think its abit quicker idk tho.

Oh I'm using the blacked out theme so everything has AMOLED I was wondering more on the technical differences it looks like bluespark shows the vendor as both a backupable partition and an img type backup.

[Q] F2FS?

Hello!
So CM11 Nightlies have F2FS support. TWRP 2.8.0.1 supposedly (I cant get it to work) has support for it as well. I heard that TWRP requires an F2FS kernel in order for the option to format to F2FS to appear.
Now, Are there any F2FS kernels available for AOSP ROMs? Is there a way to change filesystems to F2FS right now?
Thanks for any help!

Not sure if its available for the g2, but even if it was i think itd a bit too risky for you to transform into it, it could lead into bad bricking. you wouldnt notice a speed difference neither! slower phones like the MOTO G, NEXUS 4, GALAXY NEXUS all go faster, but for a device already so fast, you wont tell a thing.
but each to their own, try it if you really want!

Oh.
I already moved everything off my phone.
Anyways, CM!1 nightlies dont boot after the F2FS compatability. Is there anything I can do to make it work?

Gaming/Performance

Hi.
I'm about to buy this phone, and i would like to question which rom is the best for hard gaming? Latest stock, los, aicp 13.1 (oreo 8.1) with blackscreen kernel or else.
I will unbloat any rom, plus apply my own tweaks
For now i think the best would be stock or aicp, but... On stock I don't have vulkan api nor custom kernel, and about aicp, not sure how stable is it
If aicp has newer gpu driver and better antutu/3d score than i will chose that.

A new one, with gov performance...
Using old stock 17s here, i knock up the governor on the 2 big cores to ondemand, but keep the little cores on interactive. This gives me smoother performance and is still battery friendly. Without this tweak i find some apps slightly jerky, like a home launchers scrolling screens for example.
share link to the rom...
Okkey, so another question xd can I root stock rom with magisk somehow? Or everyone here is using custom roms?

X722, but i read that i need to flash an old version to unlock the bootloader and than flash twrp and than magisk... And i would like the latest stock rom version.
It will more likely come with a modified 20s image, with multi language, someone in my family just got one. All i had to do was type the unlock bootloader command and flash trwp (make sure to get correct version for the x722). Just don't flash official images with twrp or it will brick apparently.

If you want to sell your parts, there are plenty of people on XDA with hardware issues that could use the components from your broken phone.
Well its not broken as in not working, it works fine. I still have my LG X Power with a cracked screen that works fine, just with some things, I use reasons like this to upgrade, even though it still works, or I could even buy another pro 3, but upgrading things has always been one of my faults, spending money when I don't need to :0. I had the x520 as my main backup/wifi phone, but it got stolen, so I might use this phone as my main backup. But ill keep in mind letting it go on here.

a new rom? grass is always greener

Hi all,
Have been using the 1+5 since launch day, bought this beast at midnight on launch day and since then it's just amazed me....but I've been stuck picking a ROM due to the encryption decryption worry, I'm currently decrypted on xXx
What ROM are you using and why?
Not looking for the best, just for the points of why one over another.
Cheers.

Different ROMs are build above different sources -- OOS, AOSP, LineageOS... -- and contain various modifications -- theming options, kernel tweaking, features ported from other devices, ability to streamline the system experience, stellar stability or release-early-release-often, etc. Every ROM is different, though at some point they offer more of less similar features -- eck, it's all Android at the core! Still, they represent what their devs feel is important for a joyful experience. Read the first post of a topic, you should have a general idea of what you get.

Thanks, maybe I didn't explain it enough, what I meant was what do you use and prefer and why?
What features sell you the ROM of your choice over others.
I think you can see by the amount of phones I've had that I've seen quite a few.
What are you using at the moment and why?
Benefit over OOS?
I've always been in love with Codename Phoenix, and I still am. I flashed everything there is out there, and every kernel. My conclusion: either OOS, or Phoenix. All the others either have some bugs or annoying problems. I choose Phoenix over OOS because it is just as smooth if not even smoother & faster while providing much more features than OOS. Also, 2 stable builds a month. That's much faster updates than OOS.

The rom also has OOS cam working. The ROM itself is closed source, but it's stellar, so I am sure there's a reason behind him making it closed source. I bet he is some ex developer of some other mainstream rom who really knows his stuff.
The rom that give Codename Phoenix a head to head competition is AOSIP, I have used both and settled down on latter.

Aye i was looking at that one, again though it aims towards encrypted devices, I'm currently decrypted and have fallen foul of the memory becoming unreadable and thus losing data before, that noverity is that all you flash after the rom?

I went with AICP, firmware 5.1 at this point is needed with it. Modded Gcam working, modded oneplus cam also working. Alot of features, uses LOS and others for base. if your a flashaholic like myself they have nightlies close to every night even. If you want a custom kernel most of the LOS compatble ones (EX, Flash, Franco) work. Battery life is great, and I like the feature set. Eneough tweaking I dont need substratum to have the look I want. Using Magisk 14.4 beta for root. solid eneough to be a daily driver for sure. Bluetooth works perfect for me as well, no wifi issues.
Still using Pure Fusion 7.1.2, as it's aosp-based yet has oos camera fully working(with portrait and slow-mo).

Not a worry for me that, I've got a Lumie that gets brighter in the morning and tweets at me, wakes me up better than a normal alarm.
How's theming on pure fusion? Been having some issues with my preferred theme lately, in fact so many themes these days don't work.
Google just wants to be lighter and lighter, how they haven't got a dark side I'll never know.
Besides robbing everyone's data
Just like OP, i'm running xXx oos based rom since the beginning, and i'm pretty happy with it.
I'm interested in trying some custom roms, but i've read almost everywhere that custom roms can't get close to camera quality of OOS, is this still true ?
I don't mind flashing any magisk camera mod module if that could help :good:

GSI ports for Axon 7

Hey everyone
Im wondering if anyone has had the chance to try out any of these ports on their Axon 7. Here is the thread with the issues and instructions on flashing and other files to use:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...velopment/pie-erfan-gsi-ports-t3906486/page21
Here is the page with the GSI ports:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/gsi/
Im eager to try 2 of them but there doesnt seem to be a lot of info with the Axon there and many are reporting issues with other phones. Has anyone here tried any of these and had success?
most users with other phones reports issues.
a month ago i tried 2 but none of them booted,im not gonna try again

Those are custom ROMs though. The link is about direct ports from different manufacturers like Samsung UI, Zen UI, Oxygen UI and MIUI. Someone was trying to create bootable GSIs from direct ports of those OSs. I only saw one Axon 7 owner there that tried and now Im looking to see if any other users have tried as well.
Oh, I see.

Out of curiosity, Do you personally have any issues with the current build of HavocOS?
I saw that someone might have a Flashlight Problem, do you?
If you use your device a lot, how long is your average Screen-on-Time while on Havoc?
I'm wondering because I am still on the old RR-O 5/11/18 Kranoner build (still pretty stable, but bad SoT) and am itching to jump to Pie, but want a stable experience.
I just don't have the time to experiment with each recent GSI to see what does and doesn't work.
I remember in the other Pie GSI thread, there was a post many months ago about PixelDust having close to 7h SoT, Do you know if there are any other stable GSI's that work on Axon 7 that have this kind of SoT?
Thanks!

Most GSIs have pretty much the same SOT, it depends mostly on the state of your battery (i.e. if it is more than a year old you won't get that kind of SOT) and also on your vendor (Speedy 6.2 is the best right now) and kernel (Baddar RC1.1)
You may get 7h SOT if you use it VERY lightly, but I'd say it's closer to 6h with a new battery

I'm using AEX but don't really use the axon as daily driver since the screen is completely dead. The system is still completely stable though, via scrcpy

It's unstable because of the (non-Speedy) vendor you're using
BTW you'll have to clean flash in order to change the vendor

Hm... I did flash Speedy vendor and Baddar Kernel.
That lead to major graphical issues, so I wiped data.
That helped, it's running better now but still not perfect. Status bar / quick access freezes sometimes.
Do I need to wipe again and flash in another order?

You need to CLEAN FLASH. which means wipe system, data, caches, then flash the vendor, then the ROM, then GApps and Magisk, then the NFC fix (The first one by Kountry is the only one that works for me) and then reboot
install speedy 6.2, havok 2.6 and gapps. that ROM is rock solid. don't need to install custom kernel or NFC patch

But you do. The NFC stuff is not related to the ROM, it's the vendor, and all seem to require it. And not installing a custom kernel (i.e. Baddar, because it's the only updated one) means you're stuck with Speedy's kernel, which is not bad but is not as good as Baddar
After some time waiting for the GSI roms to appear, I was surprised and disheartened to still see folks having problems with their Axon 7. I thought the introduction of Treble support would allow everyone access to many ROM updates but instead it seems like there's work involved to tailor each GSI for their particular phone.
I thought it was Google's intention to have these GSI's flashed to any phone supporting Treble without much developer involvement. Did I assume too much?

kind of. We don't have a vendor made specifically for the phone, since treble didn't even exist when this phone came out. People have been making them over time.
But again, what's the problem? NFC/hotspot? You are supposed to flash the patch after the first boot. V4A not working? Only a few have that.
V4A works for me, I have havoc 2.4, Vendor_Project_Treble_Axon7-by+Kranoner, and I install V4A with magisk 19.3 , and I also use "NFC_Hotspot-Universal.zip"

lack of development

Just picked up the pixel 4 And hopped in here to see what's going on. It seems like there is a serious lack of development. Am I missing something? Last pure Google phone was a Nexus 6. I've been with OnePlus for a while. Not hating just curious if I'm just missing something.

I've seen it mentioned here on XDA that some Project Treble GSI ROMs are working with Pixel 4.
I tried out flashing some Project Treble ROMs to my Pixel 3a, and sadly, everything seems to work great except there is an issue with the RIL. So that means no SIM card recognition and no WiFi. This seems to occur with only a handful of devices.
I would 100% try it out. Its actually super easy and quick to install with fastboot, so I would give it a shot before giving up hope. I'm thinking about picking up a Pixel 4 just so I can have a daily driver with some AOSP ROMs on it!

Here is a list of Treble ROMs:
https://github.com/phhusson/treble_experimentations/wiki/Generic-System-Image-(GSI)-list
It would be worth looking through the threads on the ROMs you are interested in. Some devices are reported to work great with Treble ROMs, and others may have limited compatibility or stability. I've seen reports where users on many phones had no complaints.
Here are just a few links to guide you through the installation:

at first i was sad for the lack of development on this device (as someone else mentioned lack of TWRP surely accounts for some of the reason). but then it's not so bad just getting little familiar with basic adb and fastboot commands. then we have some great kernels that work with our P4 (i prefer freak07's kirisakura). i can get pretty much any features i miss from custom rom's through either magisk modules or installing edxposed and xposed modules and gravitybox. this guide from the 4xl forums worked perfectly for me to install xposed and keep gpay and safetynet passing (https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-4-xl/how-to/xposed-discussion-thread-t3992607). still a little sad the regular 4 doesn't get as much love as the XL version, but i'm actually very happy with stock rom modded!
