I have searched and couldn't find a fastboot thread. So here it is.
I found out fastboot is working on Linux.
Bad news is Windows seems to need another driver for fastboot.
Please help look for a windows driver or make one.
The fastboot commands all seem to work fine.
Here you guys go! Enjoy.
Code:
[SIZE=5][SIZE=3][SIZE=5][SIZE=3]adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot -i 0x1949 command_here[/SIZE][/SIZE][/SIZE][/SIZE]
Just noticed pokey9000 said this but it was overlooked.
pokey9000 said:
That's it. And you're running fastboot as "fastboot -i 0x1949 your_command_here", and you have udev set to allow permissions for that VID (or are running as root) in Linux?

Thank you.
Still don't believe me, look at the last picture.
I'm having issues with some commands. Please test it out and enjoy!

In the Fire TV section a fastboot cable was created by splicing two USB A to B cables together, so that the A to A ends were together which when connected from your computer to the Fire TV on bootup put the device in fastboot mode, in the process then your computer recognized (Running Windows 8 was the example given) the device and installed the proper drivers. Since the devices are similar, a potential solution would be use the cable, have the computer recognize it and install the drivers, then backup the drivers, and share them here for others to use.

I'm quite sure the cable isn't the issue. Also that's just it, I can't get windows to recognize it or find much info about it. The adb driver for the device isn't enough I guess. The funny thing is windows says it's working properly as 'Kindle' for a little while when you plug it in (while in bootloader) then device manager refreshes and reports 'cannot start'. I tried launching 'fastboot devices' many times but still nothing. I think it needs a software fix and not a hardware one but I have no past experience using fastboot. So... noob alert.
btw the driver windows tries to use is ms_comp_mtp(Generic driver installed=true) and adb uses the Amazon one on the fourm here.

I have a problem
I don't think there's ever been a question of getting into fastboot mode by using the adb reboot-bootloader command.
The issue is how to enter fastboot if the device is semi-bricked.
The device has source in the original bootloader to boot into fastboot mode if both volume buttons are pressed while powering on the device. But this has since been altered and now will only work if the device is unlocked.

Is flashing the stock .bin file any different than doing a factory reset?
I am bricked, have root, have adb, can get fastboot using adb reboot-bootloader in windows 8. I also have a Linux box if necessary.

I would recommend taking a look at this thread here, specifically the "Fixing No Permissions Error" section which should allow you to fix the problem your encountering.

Fastboot works with win8? Not with win7.1 If you have fastboot working with win8 please go to device manager (when your in the bootloader) click properties on the device then look for what driver it uses.

My main reason is to get fastboot working with windows. I just can't. Linux seems to work with fastboot but I can't access it via windows.
Just uninstall the kindle driver and replace it with the generic fastboot one
hello all,
i've kindle fire hdx 7" , no adb, grey screen logo then shutdown and goes to black screen.
when connected using cable, it show new devices... QHSUSB_BULK and sometime unknown devices.
press hold power button and volume up only go to recovery mode, but cannot recovery the system..
always go to grey screen logo...
sorry for my bad english language...
hope all of you, understand what i mean here
i need solution for fix the problem soon. thanks
I think all that works is reboot into fastboot mode. Windows 8 says no drivers are loaded. I tried a command (can't remember what) and it just went out to lunch so... I guess windows 8 isn't working either. Only to put the device in fastboot.
there are three oem commands:
oem device-info
oem idme
oem relock

but it doesn't support oem unlock so there must be another way of unlocking the bootloader, when you try some of the commands the device returns "not allowed for locked hw". Does anyone know what the "hw" is ?
hw = hardware?

Hi,
I have a bricked kindle hdx 8.9 that stops at "Kindle Fire" boot screen. I am a newbie at these things.
Just discovered that it still respond to some adb queries. Sounds like there is still hope to recover... Could it be the bootloader is messed up? Anyway to reload an image boot file to repair?
Also "fastboot reboot-bootloader" puts it into fastboot mode...with the status "ready"....and i just dont know how to proceed. Any one can help?

Facepalm
just back a little: was rooted in April but with subsequent amazon auto updates - didn't have su status. But I was able to load apps & files, installed vpns, quite a few docs,mp4 files, etc. Not really using much of the new freedom or whatever was left of it... Nothing exciting.
Was working well until one fine sunday afternoon, just 2 weeks ago when it just simply stopped after rebooting from a previous low battery charge. Was told it could be an interrupted routine update when the battery power just fell below threshold - but thot it wouldn't have erase the previous image before the new update is effective. Or it could possibly be a deleted file that is related to the booting process as I did a bit of clean up prior to the last reboot?
In the meantime, I did some adb shell/pull to explore or extract the files, photos, etc in /sdcard & other places back to my PC just in case they were not backup by the cloud. Maybe it was not bricked...but just lost a boot file or something...
In a bad situation, have absolutely zero ADB access as my build.prop is botched (bad permissions) and I did a factory reset in hopes of recovering. There is a "fastboot cable" on amazon that says it will reboot a hdx into fastboot mode, but I'm unsure of it's legitimacy. Help?
here try

I don't quite understand. Why is a special cable required for this? What makes it any different from the standard one that comes with the device?
I don't know if this will add anything to the discussion...but I can confirm fastboot is working on Ubuntu 14.04. I am using a kindle fire HDX 7" and it detects it on devices..and most commands work. Sometimes the terminal must be closed and reopened for commands to go through..
fastboot oem unlock works..or rather it says "Okay" but I'm unable to flash anything.

I have no "Allow OEM unlocking" or "Enable OEM unlocking" (or anything that says OEM Anything) in Developer Options.
I've read every thread in this xda forum for the Zuk (with exception of the 500+ post TWRP thread).
I've seen multiple people state they also do not have the option listed in Developer Options, but no one seems to address it.
I really, really hate ZukUI. Not to mention I can't access Google Play store.
...but that's a different issue.
Can I have a couple people give recommendations on unlocking the bootloader? Please tell me I can do this.
When you're in fastboot try writing 'fastboot -i 0x2b4c oem unlock' then try to see if it worked with 'fastboot -i 0x2b4c oem device-info'

I've got the Zuk on CM 12.1-YOG4PAS3OH.
No cell service though. I'm on China Unicom with ! next to wifi and cell signal strength. Any ideas?
Thank you for your help.
Nevermind, I didn't have data connection turned on.

Thanks for the help, Planet X. I'm running CM 12.1 now, loaded through 9008 port through QFIL. I would like to unlock the bootloader, get a different one, etc. But for now, I'm just happy to get rid of ZukUI and have my google services back.

GroovyHistory, be careful - if your situation is anything like mine, you may be unwittingly using mobile data when you mean to be using WiFi. Because we are in China and behind the Great Firewall, Lollipop's screwy Captive Portal Detection protocols will sometimes mark your WiFi with the "!", which means that Android thinks the WiFi data connection isn't working because its attempts to ping Google servers fail. If there's a "!" on your WiFi connection icon, but none of your mobile data connection icon, that means Android is routing your data through your mobile data connection, and not your WiFi (despite being connected to WiFi!). This can lead to unintended large amounts of mobile data usage, which if you pay per MB like (on China Mobile), can be a big pain in the butt.
I think I found a solution last night, however.
If you go into the advanced settings of each of your wifi connections, and add a proxy server of free.kakalook.com, with a port of 33333, it'll ping that server in Singapore (which is unblocked) instead of the Google servers (which are frequently blocked), and remove the "!" on the Wifi connection icon. So your connections will be sure to go through Wifi instead of mobile data.
Not sure if you will encounter this problem, but just wanted to give you a heads-up, since it was causing me major headaches earlier.
(if you want a link to a clearer explanation of this process, message me - I can't put the link in the post since I am a new user on XDA and am not allowed to post links yet)

Unlocking your device is failing because you haven't ever enabled Allow OEM Unlock or USB Debugging from within the OS. The only way you will be able to unlock the phone is to get it to boot into the OS first, and going into Developer Options to toggle these two settings on. You may be able to use the method linked above to briefly get your phone booted into the OS long enough so you can do this. If you are lucky enough to accomplish this, then you can disable the big cores using a custom kernel.

You have to try either of those two methods (extreme heat or extreme cold) to see if you can get it to boot even for a couple minutes. Neither method is quick nor do you have time to mess around once the phone finally boots. You can only upgrade with a locked bootloader. So you are stuck unless you are under warranty or can try the fix.

I'm at work so I can't watch your video. I don't recommend opening up a device if you aren't technically sound enough to follow whatever the instructions are. So, try at your own risk and loss of warranty.

Hey man, here is what I did though my device was rooted/unlocked/custom kernal (EX)
- Put the phone on charge
- Switch on, let it bootloop, eventually it booted [takes a day at times]
- Backup if you need to (eg. ADB pull).
- I have EX manager so I enabled power save mode which disables the 4 big cores. As long as the phone doesn't reboot or die no bootloops.

You will need to get into the OS somehow to toggle the dev settings. Otherwise you will not be able to unlock the bootloader. You will not be able to apply the fix (flash custom kernel) with a locked bootloader, and there is no way to unlock it unless your phone can boot. There are a few "tricks" to use with the heatgun/hairdryer that force the phone into limp mode so it will boot into the OS. Others have claimed that once booted, they have enabled "power savings" under settings>>battery and that prevents the phone from going back into the looping. Keep trying, and good luck with the hairdryer!

If it's a software issue best thing to do is completely wipe your phone. Easiest way is to install Twrp and wipe all incuding internal then flashing fresh stock image. I'm sure there is fastboot commands also to erase (or some other way if can't do neither.) This will remove every last thing from your phone so make sure if you are able to back up pics, docs, downloads, music etc. Last thing though don't think it's causes issues make sure your flashing the right version of February stock image Google finally labled them. Or March if it's out.

Hello, you describe a cluster A57 failure, to fix it you need to boot into your phone enough time to enable USB debugging and OEM unlock then flash a modified kernel or a modified ramdisk
See this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guide-fix-nexus-6p-bootloop-death-blod-t3640279/
To boot into your device you need to overheat the CPU so the software will shutdown the faulty A57 clusters to cool down the device as soon as it boot up enable USB debugging and OEM unlock before the A57 clusters goes online (because it will shutdown your device) once you succeed enable USB debugging and OEM unlock flash modified files and enjoy your working (but slower) N6P
I had that problem too, but wasn't able to live thinking that my phone was working with CPU issues, so I bought an other Nexus 6P from a guy on the internet, he was selling it because the screen was broken, I got it for real cheap ! I swapped the screen of my BLOD N6P to the one from the guy, it cost me 60$ to completely fix my phone (way less than buying a new phone or buying a new microprocessor)

Hy!
Already done that... Today It comes back from service, they told me they replaced the PCB ... so... it could be a hardware problem or a malware of some kind that ruins the memory... that's what i think about those problem, but i suspect google has something to do whit it!
So... i'll get back to you when I will have IT! :fingers-crossed:
bootloop can't unlock device
I have had exactly the same problem. I tried in vain using heat or cold to get the thing to boot, but independently found the method of leaving it on charge for a few days, occasionally it will get into the O/S.
So while in the O/S I enabled developer options and adb too (the second time) and unlocked the bootloader.
However it still claims to be "device is LOCKED" in recovery mode. This is really weird. I have also factory reset the phone but that hasn't helped.
Luckily I have read the other posts about power saving mode so I'll try that next, it will save having to flash a non-stock OS.
When people ask why unlocking the bootloader is important to me, this specific situation comes to mind. If you had unlocked your device you could have fixed this easily, mind you you would lose 4 cores.

here is some details of my nexus 6P.
Can you guys help me to overcome this problem and install the new android os.

Thank You guys.

*** I ran into a similar catch-22 issue on my 6P (H1511) the dreaded bootlooping with OEM Unlock turned OFF. ***
*** Couldn't flash the phone because OEM Unlock was off, and couldn't turn OEM Unlock on because it was bootlooping. ***
*** You MUST be able to fix the bootlooping/freezing at least temporarily, in order to turn on OEM Unlock in Developer Options ***
I have tried the "squeezing" method to no avail.
Then tried the heating method, which worked to a point where it has reached the color circles while booting, but then it started looping again.
I figured there's nothing to loose, so I cranked up the heat on the digital heating plate to exactly 140 Celsius for about 10 minutes covered with a paper towel, with only the upper half of the phone's back touching the heating plate (no need to "cook" the lower part with the battery).
It was still looping after the circles appeared, BUT by leaving it to cool off for about an hour, it has finally booted up into the setup page, so I quickly went to Settings > About/Phone/Software Info > clicked the "Build" line 7 times to enable Developer Options, under which I enabled OEM Unlock and ADB Debug.
If it's still bootlooping, you may try to "freezing" method where you would put the phone into the deep freezer for about an hour.
However, heating has worked for me.
Following that, in FastBoot mode I entered the following 3 versions of the flash unlock commands (only one will work out of the 3 which is fine):
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Downloaded the latest full stock firmware directly from Google.
https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/angler-opm6.171019.030.b1-factory-ab13a98b.zip
Unzip it, and run flash-all.bat
Once the flashing has finished, DO NOT let it boot up, instead hold down the Volume Down as it's about to reboot, which will kick it into bootloader/fastboot mode.
I have tried flashing the Osmosis zip to patch the boot but it didn't work, it was still bootlooping.
So I have flashed a pre-patched 4-Core Boot kernel to fix the bootlooping issue permanently.
For Android 8.1 OPM6.171019.030 flash this 4-Core Boot with the commands below:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=13356325061477269711
fastboot flash boot Huawei_H1511_6P_OPM6.171019.030_Boot_4Core.IMG
fastboot reboot-bootloader
At this point flash a 4-Cores patched TWRP, go into TWRP recovery (hold down Volume Down + Power for 10 seconds, Volume Down to "Recovery", Power) and first "format" Data, then "wipe" Cache, Dalvik-Cache, and Data.
Note, all information on your phone will be lost by the above format/wipe operation.
All done, hope this method may help some of you.
And here are some interesting FastBoot commands I've come across....
C:\ADB>fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability
(bootloader) 1
OKAY [ 0.018s]
Finished. Total time: 0.019s
C:\ADB>fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version:0.01
(bootloader) unlocked:yes
(bootloader) hardware-revision:ANGLER-VN2
(bootloader) version-baseband:angler-03.87
(bootloader) version-bootloader:angler-03.79
(bootloader) display-panel:
(bootloader) charger-screen-enabled:0
(bootloader) max-download-size: 0x1d800000
(bootloader) partition-type:cache:ext4
(bootloader) partition-size:cache: 0x6400000
(bootloader) partition-type:userdata:ext4
(bootloader) partition-size:userdata: 0xdaa17ee00
(bootloader) partition-type:system:ext4
(bootloader) partition-size:system: 0xc0000000
(bootloader) serialno:8XV5T15C11000453
(bootloader) kernel:lk
(bootloader) product:angler
all:
Finished. Total time: 0.172s
Instead of "fastboot getvar all", you can also use "fastboot getvar <variable>" (without the quotes and <>)
Any <variable> from the log above, between "(bootloader)" and the second ":"
For example:
fastboot getvar serialno
Enjoy!
My nexus 6P recently went through this bootloop,
Google screen coming up and stuck there, for 5 days, i was going through many possible solutions throughout the web, but they all said it must boot to OS to be able to unlock oem bootloader,
Finally stuck at extreme heat or cold, extreme heat did'nt work for me, but YES extreme cold did actually work, i kept it in the deep freezer for about half an hour, and then waited 2 min, and plugged the charging cable and powered ON the phone, to my astonishment, it did start and i was able to use the phone.
I have rebooted several times since then, it works fine for certain time, and then crashes and restarts all the time, i can still use th phone but its uncertain when it will restart again.
I tried to install new custom rom, but it still says DEVICE IS LOCKED and i cannot do anything else.
Hi, I've been working on a small project to turn the tablet to boot up when plugged into the USB.
I have scoured the internet and most have said to used "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" in a PC command line and it is simple as that. But it isn't the command line on PC is not working.
I have confirmed that the command line works because I was able to restart the tablet from the command line.
Here are the things I've done so far so far aside from the above.
turned on USB debugging in develop options of the tablet
typed in "adb devices" in the command line and have confirmed there's a connection
tried to type "fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0" in command line and only returns a "waiting for devices" when it is plugged in.
reset the tablet and tried to do the same in download mode
tried looking into twrp and found nothing that will help.
I have rooted the phone using the following guide (non xda because I couldn't find a decent guide) and successfully rooted (used SuperSU to confirm it is)
There was another alternative to be able and it was for a Galaxy Tab 2, but when the thread guide said to find " system/bin/playlpm" there was no such file.https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2099031
So I'm at a loss and unsure what to do now.

Samsung devices do not support FASTBOOT, so that's a dead end.
It's the kernel that controls charging so maybe you should be looking at the kernel source.

Thank you very much for confirming my suspicion. I'll try looking deeper then.

Did you ever manage to get this working?
Hello,
If my OnePlus 5 is powered off: and I then plug it in; it will semi turn on and go to the battery charging graphic. The phone wont boot into Oxygen OS
I would like to figure out how to get the phone to boot up when plugged in.
I have searched the web and have not come up with any working results. I have tried the following 2 methods:
- Go Into Fastboot and run fastboot oem off-mode-charge 0 ( the system accepts the command and says "okay" but this doesn't get the phone to power on.
- change the lpm or playlpm file ( these files dont exist on this phone so I have no idea which file is in place of lpm)
Thanks!
