Hi,
is there a way to make the compass callibration permanent?
When I start any app, the compass points to south instead of to north. The calibration using 8-figure works, but as soon as I exit the app and start it anew, the compass points again in the opposite direction.
Is there a sollution?
this might sounds weird but do you live on the top half of the world (america europe asia) or the bottom half (afrika south amerika australia)
and i really don't know if this is true but if you're on the botton side of the world then is could probably be working good but is it calibrated for the top half of the world.
maybe this is not true but if you do navigation with like a spoon (sounds stupid but i've seen it) then it works the same way
Hey,
after I installed Android ROM I "cant" use Google Navigation...
Okay, I can, but because the compass moves with my slightest movement I cant use it with my bike and also not in the car because as soon I move it a bit the compass reacts and Google says me that I should start at the street where I am and turn right / left... And it recalculates the route every 3 minutes...Its like Google Navigation always "resets"... Any help here?
Am I able to turn OFF Compass?
Thanks
Robin
I just noticed that the direction indicator in Maps always points the same direction when my phone is upright, but when I orient it horizontally (lay it down), it works as it should. I used the Ulysse Gizmos to check the compass operation, and it is showing that the magnetic sensor is working when the phone is upright. I can't find a setting in Maps to do anything with the compass. It's not a function-breaking issue, but it's a little weird and annoying to look at.
**FIXED IT**
Needed calibration.
Hello!
I've got identical problem as in this topic for this other phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204845. I guess S4 has a different sensor's vendor, so my question is what file should be deleted?
At present, I'm not in possession of S4, so I anyone would be so kind and check it on their rooted device that would be nice.
1. Doest it still work when the phone is:
- touched with a little magnet like in a standard vertical flip-case (with little magnet) or
- travelling by car/bus/train or
- plugged in headphones
In the one I had (I don't have it any more) while plugging in headphones, or travelling by car/bus/train, or putting it in an flip-case with a little magnet the arrow In Google Maps pointing the direction which a device is currently facing simply freezes. Compass app also freezes at the same time. The app called Android Sensor Box in the scale for magnetometer reaches its maximum level. While moving the little magnet, from mentioned before filp-case, around a phone the arrow travels with it. Move it away and it freezes. It simply won't move. While sticking S4 to the metal part of laptop table the arrow immediately points opposite direction. Only making 8s in the air helps but only for a bit. Neither S3 9305 nor S5 have this problem. Even when stuck with a magnet their arrows in GM works just fine.
2. Does deleting the file fixes the GM's arrow issue also permanently even when a phone is in the flip-case with a little magnet?
I've got the G4 Play (1602) and recently I noticed while using Google Maps, the map will not rotate in my direction of travel, so while navigation it becomes really difficult to gauge if what direction I have to travel in. It's very annoying as it seemed to work fine before.

- Google Maps auto-rotation is controlled by taping on the compass icon; if not responding to taps try uninstalling/reinstalling app (with a reboot in-between)
- as you probably know the hardware GPS in all G4P variants is lacking (sucks); auto-rotation will fail if the GPS temporarily looses its fix...which happens often
- as your device ages the GPS issue will likely get worse if my experience with two XT1607s are representative
Yeah seems like the GPS is the issue. Tried tapping the compass icon yesterday but it didn't work. Today the orientation worked flawlessly for some reason so it's probably the GPS acting up. Such a shame.
