That's probably because the Tab S2 screen does not have enough horizontal pixels. What we normally call 1440p or QHD is 2560 × 1440 pixel resolution, but the S2 screen is only 2048×1536.
It was working for more than two years on 1440p...

You can play even 2160p with vanced youtube. But my exynos tab s2 doesnt seem to play 2160p that smoothly. 1440p works perfectly.

This is for anyone looking to get the Note 4 and wanted a sample of the Video quality. The video is done though the Note 4, and nothing was modified or changed in anyway.
You can also get a few photo samples here: Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Camera Samples So far the phones camera is awesome in my option.
Mod Edit: closed as a duplicate.
Does the Note 4 get hot recording 4K? The Z3 gets Hot recording 4K.

Not that I noticed, I had it at full brightness as well when doing so. I have not noticed any over heating yet.
Bump for newcomers.
My computer just punched me in the nuts for trying to play that video all the way through. Very clear from what would actually play without glitching. Nice job.

It's the graphics processor lagging. I have a new macbook air so mines nothing but thats one badass video. If you have a cutting edge video card you should be able to play it no problem.

Yeah I didn't experience any lag or problem when viewing it on my computer.
although i have note 4 the youtube app limits the qulaity to 720p only without any 1080 or better resolution choices
first i uninstalled the updates and re install it again the 1080 appears the with the new update limitation returns
to 720p
off course i tried to open UHD video but the same res. 720p only
any suggestions ?
thanks
Some people are saying that youtube version 5.9 is able to play at 1080p. Sideload that version, then go to the play store and disable auto update for the youtube app

You need to remove all updates, clean data and caches.. Reboot and install the new YouTube version and you will get 1080p. If you don't know how to do please send a PM and I will send to you the YouTube version with 1080p.
Well, i did the same by removing the newest YouTube app and removed the app data and caches and so on. And i did reboot the phone and then i installed YouTube v5.9.0.13 that gave me both 1080p and 1440p video resolution option.
Yes, i also disabled the auto-update of the YouTube app in Play Store.
But that fun lasted for 3 days, then they just disapeared without any reasons. So i might have to try this all over again to see if i get the 1080p and 1440p video resolutions back.
EDIT: It didn't work to install the YouTube v5.9.0.13 to get back the 1080p and 1440p resolution. So i'll guess we are stuck at 720p for the time being.
I did it three times
Forst one i get the 1080 then also suddenly it returnes to 720p
The other two times totaly failed
And 720p dominated
Any way it seems that we will wait

Hello there, so I've had the s6 edge+ for sometime now and i couldn't help but notice that youtube APP just wont play 60fps videos. the option for it is there but the content isn't displayed at 60fps . I thought the problem was with the videos at first until i tried them on other devices and they displayed at 60fps perfectly fine. I googled the problem and apparently it's prevalent on the s6 edge plus and the note 5 , but i haven't found a fix for it yet . i tried uninstalling the app, clearing the cash and app data and noting worked. any ideas ?
Same here. YouTube @60fps is stuttering.
But also on Xperia Z3.
On my ipad its playing 60fps fine.

Thanks for the tip, i tried it but it didn't help. videos still won't play at 60fps for some reason.
anyone ?
It seems the S7 Edge can't handle playing YouTube videos in HD. Anything 1080p and higher it lags and stalls playing the video but you hear the sound. Does anyone else have this issue or tried it? My Note 5 works like a champ. And this is a fresh install.
Okay, so I uninstalled the youtube updates and using the one that came on the phone and it works fine. Any ideas why that would work?
It seems to be a bug affecting various Qualcomm chips, as people with the Moto X Pure and LG V10 are having the same issue, so it might just be a bug in the YouTube app or maybe a Qualcomm driver or something. We should probably report it on Google product forums if no one else has already. I turned off Smart Stay and initially I thought that fixed it for me, but then the issue started happening again so I guess it was just coincidence.
OK I just tried you tube and is updated and all 1080 streams played fine with no lag or stalling.

As soon as the phone updates that app, it breaks it again. Ugh. I find it hard to believe it works for some.....As many are noticing it.

1080p works fine for me. It's 1440p that causes the pausing on mine, although occasionally it will play a 1440p video just fine.

I agree. 1080p seems to work most of the time. I had it do it twice on that....but 1440p definitely won't work.
Same problem here. I'll try uninstalling updates. Thanks

Yeah, the bug seems to only affect Snapdragon chips. I did witness a Note 5 with Exynos reboot when trying to play a YouTube video yesterday though.
tmobild s7 edge here and definitely have the same issue 1440p youtube videos are choppy as heck and also are you guys noticing that there isnt a 60fps option as well?
what the heck with my s6 edge i could watch 1440p 60fps youtube vids with no issue at all!
Is there a Youtube app alternative thats good? Similar to how Twitter has Phoenix

It's definitely a bug. The Snapdragon 820 is easily powerful enough to play 1440p videos smoothly. Hopefully it gets fixed sooner rather than later.
Those of you with unlimited data on Tmobile need to call CS and cancel the Binge On setting. If you keep this enabled on your account then the video quality is reduced big time.

I made a video of my lag.
I kind of found a work around tho for mine.
Right when I open the app and choose a 1440p video I have to go in to the little gear option thingy and change it to 1440p. From here the video gets choppy and lags but if i go to another video and YouTube saves my 1440p selection and it automatically starts the video at 1440p where I don't have to go in and change it the video has no lag.
Someone let me know if it is the same for you.
YT was updated yesterday now with full 60FPS..no problems ever with my S7 edge

It maybe something to do with what resolution you have your screen set to, by default the s8 and s8 plus are set to fullhd+

I have a question how is it got along with google pixel HDR support?
Isn't it hardware limitation?
