You’ve probably seen Google unveil Android version 5.0; Lollipop…
Since the initial reveal of the Android “L” Developer Preview, we’ve seen lots of questions on our upgrade roadmap about our plans – so, here goes…
We’ll be making Sony Mobile’s Android “L” upgrade available for the entire premium Z series*: including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact. Sony Z Ultra Google Play edition devices will be first up – we’ll be back with more details on that soon.
We’ll start the upgrade at beginning of 2015 for the core Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series – continuing thereafter for all remaining devices above.
We’ve been working hard to bring this major update to as many of our Z Series devices as we can, as quickly as we can. We’re really excited about the new Sony features & functionality and the improvements we’ve made to the user experience – and we’ll be sharing more soon… so stay tuned to the blog and @SonyMobileNews for all the latest and greatest.
*Software rollouts are a phased process – timings & availability will vary by market/operator. Most models supported but some operator/market exceptions will apply

This is pretty good news!
Lollipop, Lollipop, oh lolli lolli lolli!
<3 that would the fastest i ever got an upgrade on android
Can't wait! Really curious about the ability to work with raw photos! The sensor in Z3 should be able to produce some stunning photos if treated right!
Really hoping they don't mess up lollipop to much.
Honestly, looking at how KitKat evolved (4.4, 4.4.1, 4.4.2, 4.4.3 then finally 4.4.4) I'd rather wait for some more time for Andoid 5 to stabilise instead of Sony (having to) deliver an instable system. I'm happy about how my Z3C works (for) now and don't want it go bad just because there's something new. It has to be better!
According to a blog post on the Sony site this morning, Sony plans to bring Android 5.0 to the entire premium Xperia Z line. That include:
Xperia Z
Xperia ZL
Xperia ZR
Xperia Tablet Z
Xperia Z1
Xperia Z1s (T-Mobile)
Xperia Z Ultra
Xperia Z1 Compact
Xperia Z2
Xperia Z2 Tablet
Xperia Z3
Xperia Z3v
Xperia Z3 Compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
The Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition will the first device to see the update. From there they will work toward the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series beginning in 2015.
Timing and availability of those updates will be announced by Sony as they become available and will trickle through specific regions and carriers too.

You're gonna be waiting a while
I have Lollipop on my Nexus 5 and my Nexus 7(2013), To be honest. I liked the look and feel of KitKat better.
This material design or whatever they call it feels just like they wanna look like windoz8.

actually i agree with you. "Played" a bit with Lollypop in Nexus 6 and 9 devices. Yes, it's nice, but i didn't feel that it's revolution as was advertised. There are new features of course, but seems that majority of them are interface design (material) changes.
So in general it seems an evolution to KitKat, like iOS 8 to iOS 7. But KitKat with xposed framework and a few other mods&tweaks, i reckon it can be as functional as Lollipop.
So no extra passion to get lollipop to tabz as soon as possible.

I agree as well, it seems Sony has decided to customise AOSP very minimally, so don't expect many differences between the Nexus 7 and the sony software

Just wait for a Pre Rooted ROM
I guess we have to wait and see.
However, seeing that the OTA fails on rooted Nexus devices since 5.0.1 , I highly doubt you can OTA update other rooted devices above 5.0.1 either. So it'll probably be the good'ol "unroot, update, re-root"
But hey. I might be wrong.
As far as I can remember, there was no OTA for any of the previous versions for the Tablet Z. You have to update via their PC software, so it just sort of "dirty flashes" the system on top, overwriting your kernel and removing root that way.
So far I can see that Z3, Z3 compact, Z2, Z1 and Z1 compact got the update, so we're next

T2 Ultra and C3 too!
Some people are complaining about laggy performance on Z2 tablet... so I don't expect anything better on our older tablet Z.. sadly..

Android 6.0 Marshmallow released today, when will hit Xperia devices? | Xperia Blog
http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/10/0...-released-today-when-will-hit-xperia-devices/
What do you think? Which Xperia models will get it? Will The Z2 be included in the update list? If yes when will Sony roll out for us? Share your opinions.
If following prior logic proves to be correct
All Supported Xperia flagships all the way back to Z unless sony decide to drop Z1 and Z now.
I do really hope Z2 and Z5 Premium get it fast due to me having Z2 and planning to buy Z5 Premium
i hope same asap for z2
As expected, the Sony Xperia XZ Premiums final software is going to be Andorid 9 Pie. This is due to Sonys 2 year Major software update policy.
Sony released a list of devices which will receive Android Pie.
The Xperia XZs (announced along with the XZ Premium) , will not receive the Andorid 9 Pie update, despite the fact that it hasn't reached its 2 wear software period.
Why is that? Due to hardware. It has the SD820,which is also present on the XZ and XP.
Here is my theory, Andorid 9 won't be the XZ Premiums final update. The final version is going to be Android 10.
Why is that? The XZ Premium has identical hardware and software with the XZ1 Series. Also, the XZ1 Series are bound to receive Android 10 due to the 2 year policy.
BUT. Sony didn't apply this policy to the XZs. So it can sometimes break it.
The XZs didn't receive Android Pie to the SD820 thanks to the commonality with the XZ and XP. If Sony updated the XZs, the would be forced to update the XZ and XP.
The XZ Premium will receive Android 10 thanks to the SD835 and the commonality with the XZ1.
What are your thoughts?
The word "Premium" always mean special treat or something more then regular.
While XZ1 and XZ1 compact has treble support...XZP has none. Sorry to be pessimistic but I don't think XZP will receive Android 10...Although I really hope it does receive.
