Looking to flash my Axon 7 but i am confused - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Hello, I've been sticking to stock ROM as long as possible but with the recent fall of ZTE, and the fact that stock started to feel sluggish I was looking for some ROMs I can get and I can see two big players LineageOS 15.1 and AospExtended. I like the huge amount of features in AospExtended but there seems to be some battery bug and lack of encryption and also in the changelog is states "Final Nougat release" which is kinda implying that there is not going to be any new version and I don't think that's the desired message. So my question is how much customizable is LineageOS 15.1? Which ROM do you think is better suited for long-term usage?

That changelog is very outdated. We already have oreo AospExtended with no bugs a while ago.
I'm currently running it and I love it, I really recommend you to install if you want a clean, stable and customizable system.
I don't know about LOS though, I never tried it.

I don't know what you mean by "battery bug" but LOS and AEX share the same issues since they use the same base, which is B12 Oreo Beta.
Also AEX is more responsive and has better audio than LOS. Battery life is about the same.

What do you mean "full of serious bugs" what version is stable enough to be considered daily driver?
There are some posts in the AEX thread about the battery dying at 50% or so.

Which ROM do you like most?

I don't see any comparison in this subforum.
Perhaps we can compare and discuss different ROMs
Which do you like and why?
I only really test CyanogenMod 13 and Lineage OS.
Can I add something ---
Which ROM is best for GAMING?
Ah ah I just had the same question. I wondered why there were so many flavors of Lineage Os, and what were the difference. For the moment I have tested only stock (Alxndr's rom) and Lineage 14.1 Official.
- Lineage OS offical is great. The fingerprint recognition is lightning fast, and the rom is globally fast. There are lots of customization and options.
- Stock has however a better battery life, Ultra Power Saving Mode, camera and dialer.
I don't do gaming. However, I can tell the performance in antutu is equivalent (+/- 53.000). Stock had a better 3d score (11.000, vs 8.000 for LOS) and should do better for gaming.
My dream would be a Lineage OS with ported touchwiz framework for edge, camera, sms and dialer. Or a S7 nougat rom with ported LoS fingerprint.

And why
I am using LOS at the moment and it blazing quick the only thing is that my phone heats heat up!!
Resurection remix for customisation. Fast and very good battery life base on AOSP.
Envoyé de mon SM-G900F en utilisant Tapatalk
AOKP seems to have everything working that i have come across and gets nightly updates i like Cr Droid but was still getting rotation issue Kltedv hopefully that will be sorted in the next update
Official linage
Tried LOS, Resurrection Remix and crdroid. LOS is good but seems so vanilla in front of RR and crdroid.
I like features. Resurrection Remix has the most features. crdroid is similar but slightly less features, but excellent battery life of all.
I switched back to RR from crdroid in the hopes of getting battery life improvement with boeffla kernel, forcedoze, hebf optimizer, but not seeing it so far. May go back to crdroid.

Battery life with crDroid so much better? Any disadvantages?

No. Minor additional features in RR. Planning to switch back, as I couldnt get similar battery efficiencies even with custom boeffla kernel
I feel safer and more stable with official lineage OS, but this is only illusion in my head.

You are in for a treat for v 2.1 when it will be released. They are improving it a lot in terms of performance and battery life.
based on stock mm, great bat life, nice mods on stock SUPERLite MiNi MM *361mb*
i tested AICP, LOS and CrDroid i want to test AOKP, the most developed was AICP, but the battery life and the ram usage was the worst, but it was the better choice, all the things worked, but i prefer LOS, Crdroid it has a lot of bugs in 2.0, i don't tested the 2.1 but a few users said that the sim card is not detected so i will wait, it has the best battery life compared with the other roms but a lot of things aren't working so it's not the best thing and LOS is vanilla but with little customizations, so it's really cool, the dev's can improve the battery life but, i think that if you use LOS is ok for daily use.
I really like LINEAGE OS official. But I use custom TW roms just because I prefer TW camera . So I hope to use LINEAGE OS with ported TW framework for stock or N7 camera .

Never tested AICP, but there are daily updates I see.
crDroid has different problems I recognized that, too. And few updates.
I only have a very small test with AOKP, everything seems working.
At the moment using LineAge OS with (nearly) no bugs. Battery life is OK, but not perfect. Performance seems good, no problem at the moment.
But I'm always interested in other ROMs or interesting features etc.

[ROM Reviews/GUIDE] A newbies guide to Nougat ROMs for the Z2 Plus

Alright, so after ROM-hopping for quite a bit over the past three months, I've got a fairly good idea about the various ROMs for our device, unofficial or otherwise. With Oreo coming out soon, and most Nougat ROMs getting their final builds, I thought this might be a good time to give my impressions. While old-timers might not get much use out of this, I'm hoping this will help out anyone that's recently bought a Z2, or is new to XDA.
INTRODUCTION
So, you got a Z2 and are looking to try a new custom ROM to get away from the horror show that is ZUI. Well, I've got good and bad news for ya.
The good- well, if you're a "normal" user that uses his phone to call, text, browse and game for a bit, most ROMs are gonna please you. Most of them are "stable" at this point, meaning you'll get very few crashes/random restarts unless you go full ham installing esoteric Xposed modules. But if you're new to XDA, you're probably unaware of Xposed anyway.
The bad- Most of them will also have some minor issues, and the only way to know if a ROM is perfect for you is to try it. Everyone has their own use cases/expectations from a ROM and thus will have a different experience than you.
My usage: I do not use Google Apps, except for Maps. Most of the apps I use are free/open source, except a few unavoidable one's like banking apps and WhatsApp. That being said, I've tried most(all?) of these ROMs with both Gapps and no Gapps to get a fair impression. Played a few games too, to test the phone in demanding situtations.
I have divided this guide into categories, roughly based on a users requirements. You can't have your cake and eat it too. Usually, if a ROM has insane performance, battery life tends to suffer. The key, as with all things in life, is finding the right balance. When a category has numerical ratings, I will be using a relative scale out of 10. A 10 does not mean that a ROM is perfect in an area, only that it was the best one that I came across.
With that lengthy, but neccessary introduction out of the way, here's the guide:
CATEGORY A: I want my phone to fly, battery life be damned!
I feel that 3 ROMs fit the bill here:
1. VIperOS by @jneto3000
2. Citrus CAF by @DD3Boh
3. Pure Fusion OS by @devabhi
While Viper has been the smoothest by a tiny margin, all these ROMs have amazing performance, and ran anything I threw at them without a hitch. I never had any UI lags while scrolling in apps. That being said, each does have a drawback. With Viper, I've always had a bit of a delay in the fingerprint scanner, PureFusion has been (slightly) unstable for me, and Citrus CAF hasn't recieved the latest KRACK patches, which makes it a no-go from a security POV.
Overall Ratings:
ROM RATING
Viper 10
Citrus CAF 9.5
PureFusion 9.5
Jaguar 9
LineageOS 8.8
crDroid 8.3
AquariOS 8
CarbonROM 7.8
NOTE: Just because I said, "Battery life be damned", doesn't mean all these ROMs have atrocious battery life. In fact, I got ~6.5 hrs SOT with Citrus CAF + Gapps, which is pretty good.
CATEGORY B: I want a good mix of performance, stability and battery life.
I'm guessing most of you belong to this category. Well you're in luck, because most ROMs for Z2 also belong to this category. You can have your pick amongst:
1. LineageOS by @varotone. Was personally my favorite ROM, extremely stable, lightning fast fingerprint, good performance (lagged a bit in games, but butter smooth for other apps) and good battery life. Unfortunately, it hasn't, and will probably never recieve patches for the KRACK vulnerability, so the more security conscious amongst you might want to avoid it. EDIT: Turns out, we did a get a new build, with the same great performance+battery life, but it does have a slow fingerprint unlock, when the phone has been asleep for a while.
2. Jaguar by @optimumpro. Similar to Lineage, it had frame drops with Games, but was rather smooth otherwise. I used this before Lineage, but my screen-on-time reduced drastically after a couple of weeks . On the flipside, many users have, and continue to report good battery life with it, so take my words with a grain of salt. r17 really improves the GPS performance.
3. crDroid by @Subhrajyoti Sen. Insane battery life. I got ~8.5 hrs of SOT (without Gapps) on my second charge cycle. Began to lag a bit so I switched to Viper, although the latest unofficial build has rectified the performance issues. Haven't tried it myself though.
4. AquariOS by @kenny3fcb. Nothing much to say, just a stable ROM with a good battery life. Hasn't been updated for quite sometime though, so no KRACK or Blueborne vulnerability patches.
CATEGORY C: I want security and longevity
Security conscious? Want frequent updates?
The answer, lads- is Jaguar by @optimumpro, and honestly- it's not even close. I think the only way to find the best ROM for yourself is to find a dev whose priorities/use cases align with yours. And if security is your priority- then @optimumpro is your man.
Damn, I sound like a sales guy.
On a serious note though, while I have little idea what Jaguar's security features like- "hardened bionic" do from a technical standpoint, I can tell you that it's usually the first ROM to incorporate security patches and tweaks, from Google or other sources. The dev takes out the time to respond to most queries, and he's said that the ROM will be maintained and updated till Oreo gets completely stabilized.
It has come to my attention that the dev apparently does not release the source code for Jaguar, so I can no longer recommend Jaguar as a privacy-focused ROM.
CATEGORY D: I want a great battery life
1. crDroid by @Subhrajyoti Sen. The last official build gave me the best overall battery life I've had yet.
2. CarbonROM by @ankit99. Pretty good idle consumption. My battery dropped just 1% overnight. Unfortunately not very stable, and hasn't been updated in a while.
Other noteworthy ROMs
1. AEX by @davidevinavil. While I personally didn't a have a great experience with v4.6 of this ROM, a lot of people have. And the dev has always been active, answering most queries. It's worth trying out the 22nd July build, which is pretty good, but doesn't have any recent security patches.
2.. AEX Unofficial by @Star_king12. While ROM has been discontinued, the dev was very helpful with user queries. Also, the 13th September build gave me some of the best battery life I've had on the Z2. I think he's working on a new ROM, so keep an eye out!
I haven't tried every ROM for the Z2, and I'm sure there are few good ones I've missed. Feel free to point to out any in the comments.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm personally using the last ViperOS build for now, and will continue to do so, if the fingerprint issue doesn't bother me too much. If it does, I might give the latest PureFusion or (unofficial) crDroid builds a try. But by and large, I'm happy with Viper.
I hope this helps some of you.
Nice guide bro! Good work !
I think best nougat rom is viper os I have tried it.It has very good mixture of everything butterysmooth performance I have also played asphalt 8 in it and it doesn't lag

To temper your expectations, I gotta tell you that some people, including me, do have a problem with the GPS on Viper. It does work, but only when you've locked on via WiFi/mobile data, otherwise it takes an eternity to lock on with GPS only. Also, Viper's fingerprint scanner takes a slightly long time to unlock if the phone's been asleep. But it's still a pretty great ROM.
@n'wah Mention the most bug free stable ROM please !

I'd say go with the last LineageOS build. I would have never left that ROM if it had recieved KRACK patches.
If you NEED to have the security patch, then I'd say go with the last (official) crDroid build. I didn't find any noteworthy bugs while the phone was on, however there's a rather scary bug with offline charging- the display gets flipped and and the phone refuses to turn on unless you press the power button for a long time. Performance is slightly worse than Lineage though.
Viper is also a good choice if you can live with the slow fingerprint recognition time when the phone is asleep and the GPS issue mentioned above. It's what I'm currently using. Best performance, okay battery life.
Also, if you can wait a couple of days, @miju12 is gonna release a new ROM - DotOS. Maybe he's managed to iron out the bugs that are in other ROMs.
Hope this helps.

Why the Lineage ROM never became Official? Does it support VoLTE?
Is there a way to install KRACK patch manually over any ROM? I wan't to try Lineage as I am using it on Moto G and it is bug free on it. Also, I believe it does not have the latest camera blobs right? We have to flash it?

IIRC to become official, the ROM should pass certain quality tests, be mostly bug-free, sensors should work properly etc. By the time the dev ironed out the bugs, he had to step away from development due to personal reasons. I don't think it has the latest camera blobs, volte should work though.
And it doesn't seem that you can flash a security patch manually, if you find out it is possible, please let us know! I feel a lot of users would return to Citrus CAF and Lineage if they had the security patches.

Your reply makes no sense in the current context. n'wah replied that "to become official, the ROM should pass certain quality tests" and to which I said a new ROM which is not even used by anyone yet is already official. Where does the question of paying or not paying comes here? I think you took it in the wrong sense.
I am still not clear about how this Official status gets decided? Lineage, AOSGP-X are out for long time but Unofficial and here is a new ROM which had issues with the first build and it is already official !!
I like many other users appreciate your and other developer's work and I am also excited about the new ROM you are coming up with. The discussion here was about the Official / Unofficial status.

Seriously do you think I have done a random build and publish it? Usually I test my builds myself before publishing but this time I was low on data and the previous build was working good so I didn't test and published which was my mistake and I agree for it. I can't speak for other Roms.

Oreo on RedmiNote3 - why back to Nougat!?

I used Oreo-ROMs now for a few weeks - everyone I tested for at least three days or more. But EVERY Oreo-ROM doesn't work for me like Nougat did before. Latest Oreo-ROM I used was LOS15.1 Nightlies. Battery was ok but 2-3 less SOT then N...GPS was ok...but so many bugs everywhere. Launcher often didnt let me into menue by longpress on screen, Quickpic wasn't running well, Mixplorer didn't let me cut'n'paste from internal memory to sdcard, contacts are gone a few times, SElinux is unsafe... and so on. It feels Nougat wasn't buggy at early state as Oreo is today. So many buggy Oreo-ROMs and Nougat lives in forgotten background..why?!?
Today I'am back to latest LOS14.1 and what should I say - perfect, smooth, all apps running like they should!
when android 7 apper, android 6 is best. wait to fix
as like nogut this is gonna take a while . remember how long it took for nogut to get fp & camera fc fixed.
Probably Oreo will never be as stable as Nougat.
I'm on LokManSiu's LOS 15.1 + Agni Kernel + Magisk since 3 weeks.
I found only two bugs : bluetooth calls and SDcard with exfat are KO.
My SOT is 30min better than with Nougat. Play Store is certified and SafetyNet is OK. No FC. No problem with apps.

Several of bugs that you mentioned are los bugs. It actually frustrated me that lineage 15.1 is full of bugs and way too behind compared to others. P previews are already started and yet they are still dealing with the nonsense bugs which has already been solved in other roms.
I miss CM even more now.

Nostalgia is a weird thing my friend. CM has served us all for many years. Few years back CM was all we had to work with. Even though LOS replaced CM, it still lives in our hearts... and in many of our old devices too.

Yeah ,soon android p is going to launch and the devs will work to get a p based custom ROM
All oreo roms still use Nougat or older blobs and just overriding, so need to use a lot of shims and cause more bugs, most of bugs fixed already but still have completablity issue, so why oreo is not stable as Nougat

I've been using LokManSiu'e LOS 15.1+ his kernel + magisk since 2 months or more i guess. Bluetooth calls and random reboots sometimes are the only bug i found works perfectly other than that.
This thred is about orea or nougat bt let me highlight another point.. Stock or miui.... I've been using stock for past 1 year.. I rooted my RN3 jus a month after i got it... I ws on RR nougat earlier then NOS oreo, AOSIP and many other ones on oreo.. To be frank after all those additional features i found stock roms to lack the basic functions.. Call quality dropped.. Proximity sensor was unstable so accidentally muted calls.. Gps fix took time.. Battery drained faster..cudnt reject calls from my smart watch.. After all this i thought about trying one of the ported miui 9 roms.. Trust me im much more happier.. I need my fone to be reliable evn if its less in features.

What?
I tried to go back to MIUI (Epic on 7) and then MM Stock but I already miss too many features in Nougat, particularly PiP with vanced, then Gcam on MM, and I quite like the new pixel launcher. + split screen works well on AEX (with most apps) even if there is a huge battery loss I'd rather charge my phone more given my usage.
I'm using Oreo for months on my Kate. RR+Agni kernel, Magisk, Dolby does the job and with the right setup its rock stable, I have basically no problems at all.
LOS 15 has no official support for RM3 that's why it's so buggy. You should give others a try before judge after some weeks of using one that wasn't the best on Nougat either.
Anyway: anyone uses built in launchers of any ROM if that isn't Nova?
We are left behind with MM blobs which supported very well for N roms and thats the reason we have pretty stable N roms. IMHO official LOS 14.1 is the best custom rom till date for me(not a fan of much customization)... Battery backup is amazing with stock kernel and with magisk modules it satisfies all my needs. The only choice we have now is to wait for mi max N sources as its the only device we have a common chipset. Also xiaomi has launched 2 more devices and developers are now moving to the new devices we would expect a very less support soon for us. Stay strong brothers. If we had 625 chipset, we would have got stable awesome oreo builds by this time. Lucky rn4 nd mi A1 device users, they will surely have support till Android P...
It's good to know that someone has brought this up. Everyone is running for the latest and the greatest but forgetting the things we're leaving behind with Nougat. I've been on RR, AEX, NOS but it was all unreliable after a point. I decided to give LOS a try and there it was. Less features but good enough to keep me here. I miss ViperOS though. It was rock stable and with tons of features. The only thing I miss on LOS is Substratum support. All my themes that I bought has gone waste lol. Wish there was still support for Nougat based ROMs like LOS. Only if there was Substratum support...
Can anyone suggest me a few?

Check this out : https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/custom-rom-t3867290/page57
It's OP6 but not much difference as you know.
The spreadsheet on the last page is pretty nice.

CAF PE. There's a lot of great stuff outside of XDA.

CAF PE has fingerprint support for 6T?
For the first time (since OnePlus 5) I've been happy with stock OOS. Even the Oreo base didn't seem as polished but now I can happily say I haven't felt the need to go to a custom ROM.
The only inconvenience is not having full/proper OMS support, so I have to reboot to see built overlays in Substratum. Other than that I have no complaints.
Honestly all these roms, even w/FP support, are not better than stock OOS.
*None are as smooth
*Obviously none are as stable
*Either a rom is jam packed with features you may find useful, but buggy as hell. Or they are stable and powerful, but the only features are to change the time in the status bar.
*No rom has been able to imitate or even out perform OOS gestures, which surprisingly is pretty important for me.
But if I had to pick one it would be Omni Rom. Most balance of all things.
The new official omnirom is great although I couldn't get microg to work. It is the only ROM that screen casting worked for me.
The stock ROM with XXX script is pretty good.
The ROM I used the longest is carbon ROM.
Best is going to be different for each user as not all users require the same options. Right now I am on omni official although microg doesn't work. Using gapps for the first time in three or five years. Kinda odd using Google apps again.

Want to update but cannot make a decission

I've been browsing most of the current builds in the forum but it's been harsh to make a decision on which to take nowadays. Android Q builds seems to be unstable with some things not functioning, and Android P like Pixel Experience have been deprecated with no additional security patches in the past 4 or 5 months.
So far, the only build that seems to keep updated is LOS 16 with Android PIE and I understand that is the best option to get best from both worlds: latest security patches + fully functional ROM without glitches or hardware issues.
Which is your experience? Anything else that I shall consider?

I did not find time to update, so now, after they released 7.1 I think I'm going to stick to AOSP Extended with Android 10. Looks really awesome
