Even with auto-sync turned off, you have probably noticed that google contacts
keeps syncing on an irregular basis. It's not supposed to do this and for some reason when it does it slows down the phone BIG time.
In my experience, the only time I lose the audio (phone slows, audio goes, have to reboot) is when the google contacts are trying to sync.
If you aren't on a call when the contacts sync, the phone slows and recovers fine on its own. If you are on a call...curtains.
If the google sync issue is corrected...the problem may go away. I have no idea how to attempt to do this but I really think these issues could be tied together.

Just one problem with that statement...when on a call, EVDO (all data) drops out, meaning sync isnt possible. However, could it be possible that those experiencing issues have a problem with data continuing while on a call wrecking havoc? Just an idea. Have yet to experience this yet and hopefully wont.
hmmmm interesting
ive too also have been dealing with the audio issues, my thing is it doesnt do it all the time, my phone sometimes does have a google sync issue at times, where it kind of hangs, i too have noticed that when i loose audio my sync is connected, but when its completely off theres no probs, meaning i never have to retart phone. idk im beat once my sync is done when i flash a rom i completely turn it off and i un check always on mobile in settings, and my audio issues went away................
im not sure if this is what you guys are talking about, but ive been having an issue that is driving me insane. I can make and receive calls fine, however no sound is transmitted to either party (my mic and speaker don't work). The only thing that fixes it is a restart, then its usually only the first one or two calls after the restart that work fine, after that its lights out again. always on mobile is unchecked, contacts/mail/calendar are set to manual sync and nothing else really pulls data without me initiating it.
Ive been on with Sprint all week about it and they are sending me a replacement and credited me back the past month, so we'll see if its a ROM or a hardware thing cause the second the replacement comes in its getting rooted and flashed
I have flashed Fipz' 2.0d on my phone, my co-worker's, and my wife's. The first two phones have worked just fine, from the first boot, however, after flashing it several times, my wife's hero continues to lose audio. I have even tried the update.zip that was supposed to help it.
The only differences that I can account for is that I rooted and flashed the two working ones on a Windows computer at work, and my wife's I rooted and flashed at home in Ubuntu.
It doesn't seem likely to me that I did anything different, (other than the required differences in the code when rooting) on my wife's phone than I did on the other two.
After 3 wipes, SD Format and re-partitions, and reconfiguring her phone, it still gets that audio issue. The longest it has lasted without doing it is about 6 hours.
I have absolutely no clue what could be causing this lol

To complicate things, I'm on a mac and have flashed MatrixROM. So, it looks like nobody is safe...Ubuntu, Windows and Mac. I noticed someone had posted a possible fix a little bit ago. I may give that a shot as it's incredibly frustrating. I wish there was a way to send all calls to voicemail, cause its pointless to have them connect through right now.
hopefully anyone who wants to test the new fix has. if not please do. its on the thread i started and it uses a variation of "fixes". as stated before, we know what causes it but not really sure how to fix it. im working with a very good dev to create a kernel and ramdisk to fix it with everything working.
wifi doesnt work with the fix as of right now. but anyways hope it helps.
OK, having a huge problem with my Nexus 4. I'm still running stock kernel/ROM (although I am rooted) and everything about the phone works great EXCEPT for the phone itself! What I mean by this is: everything works (data, texts, tethering, et cetera), I can make and receive calls... but on those calls, there is no sound in *either direction*; when on a call, the mic doesn't pick up my voice, nor does the speaker relay the caller's voice. WTF?
My in-call volume is set to maximum, as checked via Power Toggles.
I've also noticed that the phone has a hell of a time hanging up after a call. For instance, I make a call on the N4 (again, no voice/sound during said call), and when I go to hang up the phone screen simply says "hanging up" and hangs like that for almost a minute. If I try to make another call after that, I get an error "Call Not Sent".
Any ideas how I might be able to track this problem down?
I should also mention that I don't know how long this problem has been present. I really don't use voice calling very much. When I tested the phone when I first received it, I simply made a call from it and to it from our land line and made sure it rang... I didn't think that there might be any issues with the call itself!
I have a brand new N4 that I just rooted using WugFresh toolkit and I see now that I can't hear anything during a call nor can the other person hear anything.
I've tried downgrading to .33 and .27. Also reflashing .48 with no success.
What should I do?
If you are experiencing the same problem I was, it wasn't fixable. I tried everything (reflashing stock, trying different ROMs, etc.)... and apparently it was just a hardware defect. I contacted Google and after explaining the issue (which they hadn't heard about at that point) they shipped me a new phone, which works perfectly.
I would highly recommend not wasting your time trying to diagnose the issue further and get in touch with Google about getting a replacement.
Cheers,
Matt
Thanks a lot for getting back to me. I contacted them and they already sent a replacement unit.
I found a thread on Google forums with six pages of people complaining about this. Apparently is not an isolated problem. Half of the people have the problem after updating to 4.2.2 and the other half (last pages) are all with new phones (4.2.2).
jumped in been a while since I had a play with LS - first impression love the splash screen :good:
Same problem, no warranty
Lucky you guys who were still under warranty. My Nexus 4 is 2 years old now and I just got this problem. It seems to be software related. The mic and speaker works for anything else other than placing phone calls. Furthermore, even if I plug a standard headset thought the 3.5mm jack, still no luck. The same with bluetooth headset.
It's interesting that when this problem started I would be able to place or receive a call once per reboot, i.e., after rebooting, the speaker and mic would work on the first call, but not for the second call unless I reboot the phone. Now I doesn't work even after reboot.
Gargabe?
Hi,
I have exactly same problem with sound during call. I'm using CM11. It doesn't matter if it is nightly or snapshot, simply there is no sound during call. Everything except calling works fine - music, ringing etc.
Restart didn't fork for me and also deleting application data has no effect. I've found only one solution - factory reset approximately each week. It is obvious that this is only workaround and not real solution.
I don't know if it is HW or SW issue. Strange think is that factory reset helps.
Any ideas are welcome. Thank you in advance.

I have the same problem.
Reverting to stock solved the issue form me until a fix for CM11 will be found.
BTW there is a bug report for CM11.
I can't post links but the code is CYAN-5728 on the CM bugtracking system.

The issue is with Google Play Services. more specifically the checkin service within it.
(this is from the CM bugtracking system , code: CYAN-5728, as stated by pupillo)
download/install the app "DisableService" from the play store. (must be rooted)
under the [System] tab, browse to "Google Play Services", tap it, then browse to "checkinservice", uncheck. (it will prompt for superuser, allow)
restart phone
try placing/receiving a call
none of u guys spent even 1 second to check this forums for answer. there have been at least 2-3 threads about this issue, all of them containing/linking to the fix.
HI,
I have a Galaxy S4 GT9505. I started facing a problem with the in-call audio today. When I can someone they cannot hear me and I cannot hear the m either. There is no ringing sound either. There is no sound even if I turn on the speaker. The earpiece and mic are working with other VoIP applications like Viber / Skype and Tango etc. Here is a list of things which I have done to resolve the issue but nothing seems to work so far:
1: Rebooting the phone
2. Rebooting by pulling the battery and simcard out and putting them again.
3. Factory Resetting the phone and wiping all data.
4. Pulling the battery out for 5 mins or so and putting it again in solved the problem for one or two calls but the problem again started soon after that.
I am running android 4.3 which i recently updated a month ago from stock 4.2.2. I havent tried flashing the phone or rooting it since I am not a big tech-geek but I really doubt it would work as some other posts have found it useless.
It is definately a software issue and I cant find any place which comes up with a specific solution to this problem. My gs4 is completely unlocked and I do not have a warranty claim since the phone was bought in another country,
Itll be really helpful if you guys can help me with this as the technicians here in Australia are a real ripoff when it comes to phone repairs.
Any help will be appreciated .
Thanks

Both methods not working
Did you flash (custom) kernel recently?
Dear OP,
I had this with my S4 it went to the menders 3 times, each time they factory reset it and flashed latest and sent it back working.
(I had obviously already done this myself)
Then it would go again. After the third time enough was enough and I escalated it and the replaced it with a new handset and no more problems. I think this is a hardware issue and you're gonna have to get a replacement.
Search XDA for mine and others threads or go to O2 Community where there are a couple of others stories (mine included)
Cheers,
GG
Hello .. i have an S4 with almost the same problem .. incall sound is like an radio interference very strong ... about 90% and in the background i can hear the call only 10 % so its unuseable. I also want to specify this is only manifested on headphones handsfree (tryied many kinds same result), bluetooth works fine, voip / skype also.
The thing is i never made gsm calls (with headphones) between the firmare updates to be shure if it comes from the firmware
i9505
4.4.2
bb i9505xxugng8
unrooted
So from my experience i'm guessing the audio chip is almost at the end of life, so if that is true dont think any software sollution will fix this.
But if anyone has an idea, that would help.
Thanks in advance.
I had the same problem - no in-call audio, everything else working fine. GT-I9505 running 4.4.2. If I restarted the phone then in-call audio would work for a while, then stop again. It was getting to the stage where I couldn't rely on it working for more than half an hour. I searched the web and found lots of non-functional suggestions, I tried lots of things and this is what I ended up with:
1. I deleted the call logs. It didn't seem to help, but it may be relevant if the next steps don't work for you.
2. I restarted in Safe Mode. Even after about 3 hours I still had in-call audio, so it looks to be a software problem.
3. I then restarted in normal mode and after about 18 hours I still have in-call audio working. Not sure how long it will last, but it's a huge step forward for me.
Hope this works for you.

SOLUTION: Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 no audio sound during phone call.
For me it was a bad SIM Card Reader or Module IF. But it could be a bad SIM card so try a new SIM before doing this repair or at least take it out and in.
My Service Repair Statement said it replaced two things:
Part Number Description
GH59-13279A Unit-SIM SD SOCKET; SGH-I377, 10-0013-0278
GH59-13111A MODULE-IF SUB FPCB(SGH-I337);SGH-I337,10
Called 800-726-7864 told them what the symptoms were and that the support line said it was the SIM Card Reader and they gave me a quote of $70.36 and seemed confident that the phone would be fixed. Sent to Samsung Repair Facility in Texas, total cost $70.36, and was without it for 9 days. It’s been working for 2 weeks now with no problems.
First I took it to an AT&T Service Center and all they really did was try a new SIM Card, next called Samsung Service 888-987-4357 and went thru a series of tests and they said it was a bad SIM card reader and gave me the repair center number.
Symptoms:
No audio / sound during a phone call on either side (caller or receiver)
Call connects everything is working, just no sound.
Sound for all other functions and apps works (music, voice recording, video audio).
You can tell it is going to happen when you make a call and you don’t hear any ringing just a click sound then nothing. If you hear ringing then the call will work.
Rebooting usual works for a call or two. Messing with some settings may get it to work for a period of time. But for me none of any of the other suggested fixes worked except rebooting and turning airplane mode on and off but it only fixed it for awhile.
I have used the phone for 1.5 years and never had a single hardware problem, didn’t have it heavily loaded (RAM or Memory). It just started one day out of the blue and drove me crazy.

Same for me, it was the sim card not seated properly.
Same Issue to me
See, i got a similar problem, when i make a phone call sometimes it works and sometimes the phone loses the sound. after a reboot the problem seem to be gone during a brief moment, then it lose sound again. I've tried all kind of software solutions and get some conclusions after reading a lot of posts.
First: Is a hardware issue. Is related to the sim card reader and the charging port.
I've started experiencing the Cannot detect your simcard problem and fix it with a piece of foam,(it actually works great). The sim card problem was hiding the sound issue because it constantly reboots the phone, 2-3 times a day, and even if it loses the sound i didn't realize because i have to restart because of the annoying pop up.
I'm on CM13 now, and was working great for a day or two. then it starts losing sound again, first was call audio only, then even when the phone try to make the unlock sound it freezes, get in an unresponsive state. When i hit the phone softly he makes the unlock sound and starts working really good. Then Ii think, let's try that when it loses sound anywhere else. Try to play a song and the phone freezes and no sound is coming from the speaker, little hit and starts playing. Try to call and freezes or start the call without sound, little hit and works great again. So…i started to wonder what if is the same sim card issue, a faulty connector, that make perfect sense to me. So given the fact that I cannot aquire replacements and the fact that i’m reallyyy cheap, i will try to use a piece of foam on the top of the charger connector as well as the sim card reader. I’ll keep you posted if that Works for me.
Good afternoon "fellow members"
I'm writing to see if anyone else has experienced Bluetooth disconnects with their V20. My issue is that suddenly my 18 month old T-Mobile LG V20 (H918), will intermittently disconnect for no apparent reason. To remedy this issue, I've cleared the app and device cache, reset all network settings and used a new Bluetooth headset to make sure the problem wasn't the headset.
None of these actions have resolved my issues, and the fix proposed by T-Mobile is to send me a replacement (refurbished) phone. Short of a Master Reset, I've no answers on how this problem can be fixed.
Any advice or feedback from other forum members would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

What firmware are you on? 10K was notorious for Bluetooth issues. I reverted back to 10J but as far as I've heard they have fixed Bluetooth for all the ones past 10K
Noticed within a few hours after rooting, my mic was not working. Callers could not hear me. This occurs for both regular calls and Hangouts calls. This dosen't seem to be a hardware issue as the mic works for google voice assistant. Seems to occur out of the blue, and so far ive been messing with settings and somehow the mic began working again, but the issue repeated itself later yet again.
Has anyone else had a similar issue?
Looks like im a loner with this issue. This may still be a HW issue. Might swap and get a new phone while i still can and see if the issue persists.
I have a river_amz I just obtained, waiting for sis to come over and get the FRP thing sorted. I'm going to be rooting immediately after unlocking bootloader. I will post here and let you know if I experience the same thing.
Have you found out anything since your last post regarding this btw?
No. It's been solidly working all day yesterday. Trying to make it fail again.
My only hope is its not a intermittent HW issue that will pop up bigtime after my return window expires.

Mic on MOTO G7 not working
I'm having an issue like this, but my mic just does not work at all. I'm pretty sure this one is a hardware issue because the only way I can talk to people is plugging in headphones. Do you have the regular G7, or the play/power/plus?
