No Pie for U Ultra users :( - HTC U Ultra Questions & Answers

I think we all saw it coming, right?

My HTC U Ultra is definitely my last HTC device. Since the HTC HD2 every year had a new HTC, but with the current update policy I really lost the last bit of confidence.

It’s likely that only HTC’s U series will get the update, with the U11 Life, U11+, and U12+ all expected to receive Android Pie in Q4 2018. Following in early 2019 are the HTC U11 and U11 EYEs, and in Q2 2019 the HTC U Ultra.

Same here. No more HTC ever. What a ****ty company.

Would it be possible someone could make an android pie ROM for the HTC u ultra?

Not according to this:
https://theleaker.com/htc-android-p-9-0-update/
If you read HTCs Twitter feed and FB page, they tell you that, Like other devs.. HTC provides updates for 2 years on all of their devices after release... The HTC 10 isnt getting P, but as the Ultra is only 17 months old, so the Ultra will be..
People just love bashing HTC, but there are 100s of 1000s of Ultras out there... Just because MKBHD or Flossy Carter dont like the Ultra.. doesnt mean the Ultra is finished

Unfortunately i am skeptic that we will get any further update for the ultra. Yes our phone is flagship and it is less than 2 years old and it is shame that htc will leave it to die but it has the same hardware as htc 10 inside. If they update u ultra they should also update htc 10 and they obviously do not want to spend resources to make snapdragon 820 and the second screen to work properly. It was clear when they updated us to oreo but did not include project treble that they do not plan further development. If they did they would make their life easier for android P by including it.
Frankly i am tired of playing this software update game with most android manufacturers. I am android user since the days of android 1.6 and have used devices (mostly flagship) by sony, lg and htc and despite the promised commitment of manufacturers to provide 2 years of major android version updates (which should include at least 2 versions above initial when released) for flagships this is rarely the case unfortunately. They use all kind of tricks like releasing deliberately with older version or trying to lie people that the new software will work worse with the hardware to avoid updates. When they need to take your money they are first to promise everything to buy their new phone but when you need support after that they are deaf. Long time ago when android had just basic features and manufacturers added many additional ones there was reason to go with certain manufacturer but now when android is fully developed platform i do not see reason to stick with anything different than google in future. Pixel 2/xl will be supported for 3 years with major android versions which means 3 versions above the initial. Moreover you receive security updates every month. Most probably with pixel 3 it will be the same. So yes i will use my u ultra for some more time but my next phone will definitely be google pixel. Too bad for htc - the u ultra has the best sound with headphones compared to my previous phones but today you simply can not afford to not provide current software for flagship device which is not even 2 years old.

Htc ultra
I have been happy with ultra photos sound and general smooth operation
It's disappointing that we won't get pie till q2 2019
But I am impressed with the photo quality and sound
Battery does go down with serious use but otherwise I am happy with it performance
Don't use 2nd screen much
Like the big phone now am sold on phablet
Still love the themes of HTC
May have to buy online or os next time as HTC don't sell
Each thru shops

We will not get android 9 at all. HTC dropped support for our phone despite it being just year and a half old. The only hope to get android 9 would be if custom ROM is developed.

I've contacted HTC about this, apparently ill get an answer from the correct department in the next few days. Not updating a year and a half old device would be atrocious and would for sure make this the last HTC device I purchase.

btw this isnt the case at all since there are some variants of the ultra that havent been upgraded to oreo yet and there are ones that have been upgraded very recently so basically that means that support for the ultra isnt complely dropped aatleast not yet

And what? Have you got a response from HTC?

I'm done with HTC devices . They doing the same mistakes as Microsoft did with there phone's. They didn't listen to there customers and Lumia line ( windows phone) went down. It will be the same situation with HTC. Wait and see

HTC Evo getting gingerbread from today .Is desire z that worthless phone ?

I really can't believe HTC .... They are giving a phone which is about a year older than desire z sense update and we are still on waiting list ... Were desire z sales really that ****ty for them that they are punishing us for buying it ?

+1 ... Yet another time we HTC owners feel fooked over by the company... that promises updates on updates.. I had the Tattoo... no update, and i've had the SE Xperia Mini Pro... no Update... HTC promised Desire Z update within Q1 of 2011.. and look where we are.. Curses! And how come they speak in the media about Unlocking and open up for rooting on NEWER models..? They do not mention to unlock the phones they just locked with the latest update.. Only newer... Tragic!
The evo was a huge flagship device with a bunch of "first" promises look at it from another point of view, HTC is keeping good on the "first idea"
Sent from my Xoom using XDA Premium App
If you want to look at it from a Marketing angle. EVO 4G came before G2. So YES, they will update that before us G2 / Desire Z owners. Got to look at the line up of what came before G2/Desire Z, THEN you see how far down the waiting list we are.

I don't really see what the big deal is here...
Gingerbread is available to us through Custom ROMS.... For me, the developer support behind the DZ was one of the main reasons I decided to purchase it.
The EVO is a flagship device for HTC so I can understand why they decided to get it updated before the DZ/G2...
The official update will come, just give it time. In the meanwhile, try one of the many custom roms we have to choose from.
actually the update was confirmed to be in july for the desire z a while ago, so dont worry
I'm a little confused here too, but not by HTC's update schedule. I'm confused as to why a bunch of rooted users running some impressive dev ROMS would care about an official update. This is like getting a fully loaded pizza with anything and everything and looking longingly at the half-cold cheese pizza. Gingerbread 2.3 is already here for us and has been for a while. I figured the entire point of rooting was to enable a user to have the latest, most updated software ASAP.. and have a wide selection. I'll let the non-rooted mainstream worry about when the next official OTA drops.

* I'm just sayin......
HTC have said the update will arrive before the end of June, which still gives them a month before they break any promises.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Guys its not about having leaked updates or devs making update for us .... Rule of thumb is that newer phone should get update before older phone .... Desire z was released a month or 2 after desire HD ... Yet they got official update a month back ... And now even an older phone like evo is getting update before ours . Getting official update means more stable bug free Rom along with its source code so that devs start working on it properly.... We haven't got that and apparently we will get that around start of July . That's a damn shame ....
Sent from my HTC Vision
The EVO was pretty much the only decent Android phone on Sprint for a long time, while the markets with the DZ have had a choice of devices. And although Sprint is the #3 carrier in the US, they are still relatively large. And the US is probably HTC's largest market. Don't know the exact numbers of DZ users versus EVO, but it would seem from these factors that there are more EVO users than DZ users, and HTC has to prioritize somehow. That doesn't mean that the DZ is "useless".
Besides, latest promise from HTC is before the end of Q2 (end of June) for us to get the update. If they keep that promise, that's only a few weeks after the EVO gets it, at most. And it might be sooner.
http://pocketnow.com/android/htc-updates-desire-z-gingerbread-status-out-by-end-of-june
While I'm fairly annoyed that we seem to be last to get Gingerbread on our phones, its been quoted at Q2 for quite some time, so I hope to get it this month. Its more because I have some weird issues with the 1.72 software than features.
I can understand devs wanting to see the ROM as they probably want the official Kernel source, or apps like Sense out of it to cook into their own ROMs.
All said, is HTC actually working on Gingerbread for DZ? There has only been 1 very early leak compared to a "final" for the G2. Granted, they have Sense to test too but that was in March (28th ish)
Lets hope for delivery within the next 30 days.

wasnt the G2 official OTA sent out? and i seriously think HTC have just one lazy ass developer working on Desire Z GB update.... cause desire HD got update one month ago and that was released 2 months before desire z...this is most definatley gonna be my last HTC phone... i aint gonna buy HTC devices any more . they just churn out newer model of cell phones every month and apparently just 6 month old is too old for them to even bother pushing out an update for it on time...
and about Evo. well after htc had the update finalized it has to be tested by sprint ppl before its sent out as OTA. and yet they got it before us. i mean seriously i am so damn pissed at HTC...

chill, bro. it's just a phone.
and no, us G2 owners have not received Gingerbread OTA... I'm not sure why any one here would care anyway, as most of us are already on Gingerbread. yeah, there will probably be some improvements with new source released, but you're blowing this a bit out of proportion.

Are you serious? There are so many other brands that are way worse than HTC about this kind of stuff. At least we're getting gingerbread at all. Other brands just leave their older phones in the dust after 6+ months if even that. I really don't think you'll be as happy with another brand of phone. HTC phones have the best development going on hands down too.
Seriously, what's with the HTC hate? The fragmented nature of Android is as much Google's fault as the manufacturers'. I for one think HTC is pretty awesome. When a huge corporation actually LISTENS to a small rooting/enthusiast community and unlocks their bootloaders, that's a good day. I see the benefit to having that official source code, but I'm running a 2.3 leak with LP+ and Spare Parts and it's so fast and smooth it's almost ridiculous. Again, why is it a big deal?? I have zero complaints and know the devs here can do some amazing stuff, with or without the official OTA source. It only gets even better from here.
Well guys I was the biggest iPhone hater and HTC supporter you could ever think of . But now I'm seriously considering getting an iPhone after desire z . No matter how locked down the platform is at least they provide updates to all phones on time for 2 years atleast and your phone remains the best phone least a year ....
Or I might go with the nexus series atleast they get the updates quicker . But up till GB.... plain Android is very bland for my taste . I hope they really bring some slick UI for icecream . So that I can break my bond with sense and live happily with cyanogen mod
I like Windows phone too but I ain't ready to jump to it until the next major update after mango arrives .... To me its still not as polished as other OS even with mango .

At least with HTC when HTC stop releasing updates, you have an excellent community where you can pick up unofficial updates. I have an O2 XDA Orbit 2 (Polaris) with Cyanogenmod 7.0.2 which I'm playing with.
I really like Sense, I also find stock Android bland, so I'll be waiting for official GB

How can an iPhone update not be "on time"? There is only one iPhone. So you can't have the same situation like this "EVO has the update, why don't we". Yes, they have older iPhone generations, but that doesn't really count, IMO, since they have only made incremental improvements to the phone, and no really significant changes. Pretty much the same phone every time, just slightly better CPU and memory specs each time, and cosmetic changes.

WP7 is pretty much the worst of all worlds. Closed platform with hardly any apps. And incredibly poor sales indicate a very hard road for Microsoft at best. At worst, another dead phone OS from MS, with WP7 owners left out in the cold.

Yeah, agree. HTC has finite resources, and can't update everyone all at one time. Just because they are a bit later updating one phone versus another, people flip out. You want to see awful update support, look at Samsung.

New phone coming Huawei Honor

Yet another huawei phone that im sure will never get the next Android update
and support will be non-existent after a couple of months of sales
From engadget...
Huawei's four-inch flagship has appeared at a rigorous FCC screening, and this one comes with several radio band changes since its formal reveal. This new CDMA 800/1700(AWS)/1900 variant, making it through the Commission as the M886, indicates the Honor will be making a showing in the US on Cricket as the Huawei Glory. You can expect to see the Gingerbread-running device come with a 4-inch FWVGA (854 x 480) screen, a 1.4GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, a sizable 1,900mAh battery, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing cam.
After having such a long time with a U8800 and no offical updates to 2.3 but continued promises from non-existant huawei tech support, upgrading to the new Samsung Nexus/Galaxy Prime as soon as its out as the specs for it just kick ass on anything else out there,
At least the Samsung will come with the latest OS and im sure the updates will be much quicker than anything huawaitforanupdate... could ever come up with
You bet Samsung or any other manufacturer will provide updates. Just changed to HTC Inc S and received 2 OTA updates in the last few days. Next to come is Sense 3.0

I've heard about that, but at least HTC cares about that and what users think... God knows what happens on the Huawei phones...
that makes me think of the linux-windows analogue..
with linux (huawei?) u r on ur own.. u can make the best of it, and u can also live in hell with it..
with windows (htc? samsung? etc?) u r well taken care of, and can live happily ever and after..
[edit]
btw, did u realise that by buying a htc or samsung phone, u r also contributing to the m$ empire's wealth and health?
anyway, not that many ppl care about that i guess..

I think they promised ICS for Honor (probably like 2.3 was promised for Ideos X5)
Anyone betting on it?
Somewhere was said that Huawei's main focus is on ICS and if they have time they'll do a 2.3 upgrade. Not sure if its true though.

Sure the U8860 Honor will get the update... but the M886 Mercury in America probably wont. Same phone just a cruddier FFC and its CDMA not GSM. Cricket is a "unlimited everything for one low rate" provider and I doubt will care to update it's customers. But you get what you pay for... a $250 phone with service for $55 a month.
I'm buying the phone today and I will go on a killing spree if it breaks with in the first few months. By then I'm sure they will have lowered the price though :-/
I read somewhere that google's force company's to have last android updates on recent models. that means even x5 have to be updated to ICS because its an 2008+ model. and so on.
I don't know much about this, I tried to search for anything about that quickly and came up dry. Recent models will be updated I'm sure, but if your phone is a year old then too bad.
Also, On Google's site it says that old Android versions can be shipped on any device, since it's open srouce, but can not carry the name Android and will not be part of the Market ecosystem.
Baiscally, I think its up to the manufacturer if they want to spend the time to get the new OS updates to work with a phone even though Google tries to make it easy. Low-end models will suffer and get lost in the dust.
Now about carriers pushing updates OTA... I think that will only last about a year to 18 months. Why give you the latest OS when you can come back and spend more on a new phone?
Food for thought: A year ago I bought the Samsung Galaxy-S from T-Mobile, it didn't have the latest Android version. T-Mobile said they weren't planning on pushing the update OTA when it came out. Instead said to use Samsung's Kies which failed miserably. At the time I wasn't the only one who had trouble with the software. So I loaded up a custom ROM with a newer Android OS and a sleek dark look.
Looks like a cool phone. Happy with the x5 for now though.
Guess the moral is you get what you pay for really. Huawei package good hardware into a reasonably nice phone and they sell it cheap, why do we expect updates to next version of Android? You pay an extra couple of hundy for a sammy or htc with the same specs, you can start to expect updates. Buy an Iphone and it is a part of the deal for a generation or 2.
It is the biggest problem with android that there is no central control. Google makes a new version, phone manufacturer has to update everything to support it, carrier has to decide to push it and then customise it and then you have to update it using any of a bunch of methods. It is too messy and nobody has control to make sure phones are good and functional before being shipped out the door.
Also ICS has bumped up the minimum specs so everything down in spec from a nexus s should not expect ICS any time soon if ever.
I love xda for making cheap phones completely usable and awesome with custom firmwares and great devs.
Currently from Huawei official BBS there is no plan to release ICS version to X5. The new model Honor already have the ICS pilot version.

the above about min requirements is far from true.. If you have a phone that will run 2.2 or above it WILL RUN ICS Better. The biggest improvements in ics is in how it handles memory and cpu cycles. It all uses a whole new ui called render script. that threads the ui thru the gpu Hardware rendering. This makes ics run even better on older hardware.
This is all over the net check it out. and YOUTUBE as well..
I to am wondering about ICS ON The mercury. Unless we can gind a very good DEV that can port the u8860 rom to the M886 . from gsm to cdma .
Anyway just my opinion. I went from honeycomb to ics on my icionia a500 and its like a new device

I got the Honor 10 days ago !
For what it is, this phone is great, getting it was a very last minute decision (duty free shop in the Airport), but I'm happy I did.
I was able very easily to put ICS on it and it runs great every thing is better about the phone (except for the camera which is horrible), the ICS room is from HUAWEI and its called Cambodia Demo but it works great including Google play.
I heard they was updating 07/13/12

For those thinking in buy Huawei, make your savings and buy some other brand.
Huawei = ZERO client support updates that makes the phones even worst, so you will be on your hands.
agree with last user.
huawei makes good specs for money... but has the worst development and costumer care I know...
I probably wont buy this brand again, my good impression from x5 capacities exist thanks to DZO, nothing more !

Google Pixel: 2 years later

It's been 2 years since Google Pixel (XL) was released.
Unfortunately, this means no more major releases for these phones.
I hope the community would still be able to create some porting of next versions of Android, because the OG Pixel still rocks nowadays.
Too bad that a powerful phone like this one will only get security patches for only one year from now.
I still hope they give us 9.1
"No guaranteed Android version updates after" does not mean that there is no chance, if next Android versions don't require to much tinkering to be ported to the Pixel I think they will do it.

I was thinking the same thing about "guaranteed." I found no compelling reason to move to Pixel 2. I still see nothing in Pixel 3 that makes me want to spend the money especially to guarantee bootloader unlock.

I second that. Pixel is still kicking.
What's with the Treble thing? Do you think we could get future versions ported easily?
I purchased a Pixel second hand off eBay about 2 months ago, switch from a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and I can say without a doubt. It out does the Galaxy without a problem. Though I miss the heartbeat monitor. It is sad to see that this powerful phone doesn't have any more Android version updates anymore but the community probably will be updating it more and more. My favorite thing about this phone I have to say is just the usability and ease or finding everything where it makes sense to find.
Keyword is "minimum" at the top. Google like Samsung and many other makers are only obligated to provide support for two years. That is all they are saying. Also, with Google having the Pixel /XL on Android P, do you really they will drop support with only a few makers with Pie? Other makers say only two year support. Most phone like this one has gotten two major Android os updates. Since this also is their first in house phone with full Google logo inside and out, I highly doubtful they will just drop support. Why even put out Android P on the pixel? They could stuck at 8.1 and not updated to P. They are keeping their phones out there viable. With most their testing of new OS on their in house phones, and it being HTC, which they now own half of, no way do I see them dropping support. Especially how close all three versions are. A few different drivers per phone, but highly used chipsets across the board. The Sailfish and Marlin still have more development than say Samsung flagships, lg flagships, and any other phones out there. Go look threw XDA. I got tired of waiting for root again on the s8 I sold that pos and got a pixel and pixel 2 xl. These phones are far from done. This pixel rooted on stock kernel still kills my old s8. Quad core vs octo core. Pixel quad smashes it.

Oh for sure. Lineageos rocks. Got that on old s5. Oreo on a s5. Unreal. A lot of extra features. Really got that phone for a house phone now and works great.
is possible that they will do the 'same' thing? I mean, they give new update to 'slow down' the old devices, so the current user will feel need to upgrade
even they do, we still have custom rom, which always want make our device running more fast, rite?

Until we stop actually getting updates, I wouldn't worry about it. And we'll probably know before hand when that will be. Plus with Pixel 3 out we're going to get some of the software, whether Google wants us to have it or not. Night Shot with the Pixel 3 camera on my original Pixel.
November updates have been released, and..... no updates for sailfish and marlin.

Does anybody else had the image quality reduced on Google Photos?

I doubt that. Probably an issue with the update for us.
Still rocking my OG pixel but tomorrow I am getting a battery replacement. Phone works great but watching the battery level is like watching the gas gauge on a race car... no desire to upgrade as everything else works great.

Until they announce they do drop sailfish Pixel, I won't worry.
Google confirms it's still working on the November update for 2016 Pixels
I have Nexus 5x with 4gigs of RAM as my second phone and it was officially updated up to 8.1. And also it is quite suitable for the pixel2 ROM port with almost all the features working without any problems. I don't see why Pixel 1 can be less capable to be updated in future at least two android versions up
This phone is amazing still now we have offical night shot I am do happy

U11 Slice of Pie

With the August HTC announcement via Twitter that the U11 will receive Android 9.0 (Pie), wanted to get a specific Pie discussion going. I'm aware of the Software Update thread, etc,... but this is U11 PIE specific here.
Me personally. I'm hoping PIE brings a radio firmware update as well. I never got my Oreo VZW SMS issues resolved other than to stick with 7.1.1 until something comes along that works. And I don't like not having the latest security patches.
So that brings me to the next point. Hopefully PIE fulfills the promise of decoupling security updates from firmware and software updates. i.e., be able to always implement the latest security patches for that version of Android, regardless if the OEM provides updates or not. Here's to hoping.
Anyways, I know there are some PIE based ROMs out there, but hopefully when the first official HTC released PIE update hits the street, you'll hear it here first.
Cheers
1st of all, do you both have a history? or I'm the only one who feel this way.
2nd, Currently there is a Pie ROM here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/development/rom-slim7-t3855041), try if you want
For me, I'm not so excited with HTC U11 official PIE release, since the U11 has capacitive keys so they cannot have or evolve to a way we can have gesture or something like that.
What I'm more looking forward to is all the custom ROM which will come after the official release !
So that brings me to the next point. Hopefully PIE fulfills the promise of decoupling security updates from firmware and software updates. i.e., be able to always implement the latest security patches for that version of Android, regardless if the OEM provides updates or not. Here's to hoping.

I'm debating if I should wait for pie or get a pixel 3xl. I have 2 U11's and one I got for free. With the black Friday deal on Verizon I won't even lose money. The question is HTC or Google Pie...
Me 2. But the boss may not be pleased I get another phone after a year.haha. Next phone pixel for me. Our phones are as important as our computers these days. She is apple fan too and she has told me a few times get an iphone over the years . Sure rip off to start but it gets updated for years. Despite this I like the flexibility of Android so pay extra for the pixel and get security updates.
When they announced we were going to be getting Pie on Twitter they stated 'Timeframes for roll-out will be announced in due course'. Has anyone heard anything about the roll-out as that statement was made three months ago?!
In this case "in due course" translates to "we have no plans".
I haven't seen any new information about Pie for the U11 since this announcement, and don't expect Pie in 2018.
Maybe in early 2019 ? But even that isn't sure.
Maybe HTC will close down before releasing it.

That's what I think. I did email HTC Support (waste of time) who advised me to go to settings and check for update! As much as I like this phone it will be my last HTC as they do not supply any after-sales customer care whatsoever!
i have similar sympathies. Up until now all of my phones except for one have been HTC devices but I have a feeling the company can't keep up anymore. Sense hasn't had a decent upgrade in ages. HTC apps like dialer look and work dated and now updates also take way too long. I remember that at some point they said 90 days (back in the Lollipop days) after a new android release and that would put Pie in November but we haven't even had a proper leak yet.
Unless they come out punching hard with the next model I'm afraid this has been it for me and HTC and I'll move maybe to the Sammy camp or something.
Other than the lack of updates, its a great phone, my minor issue is how bluetooth is handled when compared to my last phone (lg v20 ) which got water damaged. With the Lg v20 you could have 2 bluetooth devices connected at the same time. So in car you not need to worry if you had your headset connected if you got a call. Its a minor issue but a annoying you have to remember to turn off your watch (i got a huawei band 2 watch you can take calls on).
Anyway back on topic, I wonder Pie would add this feature or not so if you got a call you can take it on any of the two bluetooth devices.
Since the rumor that HTC was canceling early 2019 flagship phone, I think that may have some influences on Pie.

They said they're focusing on 5G phones
Well I got it all wrong.
Thank you for contacting HTC! We know how important your security means for you. We apologize as we do not have an information as to when security patches will be released. Manufacturers often wait for Google to deliver the available patches as they are the ones to roll out these updates. Its googles fault, they are waiting for them previously when I asked it was the telco but it is never htc fault.

HTC release Pie for U11 life https://www.ubergizmo.com/2018/11/htc-u11-life-android-pie-update/
The firmware for the U11 life can't be that much different from the U11. We may get it quicker than we think?

No, we won't
U11 Life is an Android One device.

Is absolutely different. The life version is an "android one" device.
Is normal, as expected, that the u11 life get first the updates.
Now, should update the u12+, then the u11+ and the last the u11. If we get the update on February I would say that we are lucky.

1 version in the Android One program, so it get updated to Android Pie
Don't mess both version, because they are never the same .

Oxygen OS updates

When I was considering buying a Oneplus 1+8 pro I was being told by YT influencers and media that if you like clean and good OS with frequent updates and longterm support that Oneplus is the way to go.
It has now been over 4 months since last update and AFAIK nothing is happening on that matter.
We have OB2 which is nowhere near being ready for daily driver. Even when it is released as stable I bet it will be even worse as what the current 10 is.
We have updates coming out for the 7 and Nord series but nothing for the 8.
If somebody wants to claim that there is nothing to update I will call them idiots. This OS is nowhere near to the level of the OSs I had on my previous Samsung and Apple phones. There are all sorts of issues which are not being addresed by Oneplus.
Am I the only one having a problem with that fact?

There are monthly updates, we have to wait for android 11 like everyone else.
Use Oxygen updater or look here: https://www.androidauthority.com/oneplus-8-pro-update-1108368/

1st - OB2 is like 3 weeks old, not 4 months. Hope you don't expect Stable A11 days after Pixels.
2nd - if you believe YT influencers, then I wish you good luck.
3rd - security updates are spot on.
4th - I use OB2 since the release day and have no complains. Eventually high battery use of Google Play Store app. Nothing crazy.
]1st - I was referring to stable A10. Latest update was released Aug 15, 2020. So not 4 months but 2. Still long time ago.
2nd -I cannot establish my own opinion since I have no chance to see these phones in person before purchase. Also this is nowadays normal and best way to buy stuff.
3rd - No they are not. The latest stable version is on August security patch. We are now in the middle of October. Even Samsung is pushing that as we speak.
4th - I use my phone for work so no I will not run beta SW on it.
Samsung are better with security updates, but oneplus will get android 11 first
No complaints with 8 Pro updates this year...

First off. Don't listen to YouTubers, and influencers, I think I would poke someone in the eye of they told me that's what they did for a job..
OnePlus absolutely smashes the other OEM's in regards to updates, Huawei, old HTC, Sammy, LG, Sony, sorry but none of them come close .
Pixel? Sure that's the source, but the shortcomings Vs pixel on the OnePlus, it makes up for with a bigger battery and IMHO a better Dev community and a course matched beta program.
You can't go wrong with OnePlus tbh.

Based on this report your claims have no foundations to stand on. Oneplus released 12 updates since the phone launched but most of them were minor updates and fixed nothing. Only one major update. I would not classify that in the "smashing other OEMs" category.

12 updates in 6 months is pretty good stats. Small or not. I have had all other brands and came back to OnePlus (I had the 6T as well). Even stock, it is a great OS. But, everyone has their own opinion.

No foundations? Perhaps the fact that OnePlus actually release stable OS' in a timely manner with very little need to change anything, OOS is an extremely stable and fast skin for Android..very light too.
Security update comes out OnePlus gets it... new OS in development, we get it early.....to what OEM are you referring?
Huawei does not offer this speed nor does it offer a beta program like this, Samsung didn't either if memory serves, Sony was pitiful and splintered (as was Huawei (due to device variants /regions) LG (do people still buy these types of phones? Motorola (budget phone not in the same league)
I've had a lot of phones so I have some experience here, this is a public forum, you can take my advice or you can move on, what I won't do is try to convince you against something you appear to have an agenda towards, personally I can say without prejudice or bias that the OnePlus 8 pro is the best phone on the market right now, very few people would argue that point.
Updates are on point, end of story.
A good OEM won't release huge updates because they have nothing to fix, meaning it was done right the first time, a bad OEM will do the opposite, like Samsung releasing a £1500 phone with a camera that won't focus.
Oh wow just saw your end of post, you compared an android device to apple.
Oh dear.
Tell me can you Bluetooth files yet? Is apple still crippling it's OS due to an "update" ?
Don't compare any android device to apple you'll get very little sympathy here in that regard.
Samsung? Really? Exynos processor in the non US variants? And you're supporting them? Anyone who likes android or has an ounce of respect for themselves would boycott them and sign the petition to get Snapdragon in all their phones..
I wouldn't swap my OnePlus if you offered me both the iPhone XS and the ultra.
Lastly I and the absolute vast majority of people have not and do not have any issue with our OnePlus phone.
Fastest phone out not.
Battery life? I get 10 hours SOT consistently, even when gaming.
What issues are you referring to? If it's green tint (see above)
