Hey guys, I'm wondering ,is it me or there is this smoothness in terms of UI fluidity when using only the stock keyboard of Samsung. I'm quite the fan of the gboard but after few weeks it feels like it's starting to boggle my device performance way to much and the UI doesn't feel as smooth as it is as with stock ,is it placebo or there is hidden issue which noone never pointed. Hope someone can help .Thanks, using the exynos version.

I tried a stock (Gingerbread) Galaxy note in a local retailer. When using S-memo I noticed the pen lags quite noticeably. I wondered if it still does in ICS or in other drawing programs or if the lag is baked into the pen API.
Otherwise loved it.
from my experience, it only lags in the s note/memo apps. in rhythm games, i havent really noticed any lag.
In ICS it is much smoother. I'm on stock LPY
Thanks peeps for swift reply, gotta love xda.
For me it has never laged under ICS, even SNote app is buttery smooth!

I never had any lag experiences while using ICS. While using GB I had problems with non-accuracy problems. My strokes where a few pixels on the right on where my pen was pointing on... Got fixed completely in ICS.
wow maybe I'll let my G Note update to ICS as he is asking from day 1. thank you all for the comments
I know I should have posted this in the q&a but maybe we could have a discussion on the matter.
So as we know, this phone is one of the lagless devices I've ever had and I've had quite a handful of phones recently so I wanted to know your opinions on what do you thunk may be the reason. I know HTC dedicated about a fourth of the ram to hardware and I think that helps a lot. Do you think it's that or just plain old optimization?
From the way I see it, I think it's a big help from the hardware ram but lots of credits due to optimization. What do you think, why do you think so, and what are your views on hardware marrying software?
It's down to both hardware and software optimization, looks like HTC's Sense 5 has been built from the ground up to work with the new processors and Android JellyBean. They've done a great job stripping down the unnecessary bloatware and complicated options. They have refined the software to a point that everything just snaps.
For the first time since Sense first got released, I actually prefer this to stock Android. Love Sense 5

I agreed. It's butter. Had a gs4 for almost 2 weeks can't never compare to the smoothness of the HTC one.

did not notice any lag on InsertCoin 3.0
HTC have done a solid job on Sense 5 but I also think it's down to not including a bunch of useless software (like on the S4) and sticking with the tried and tested 4.1.2. I hope 4.2.2 and above are just as non lagging and stable. I can't believe how stable this device is.

It's not so much about this or that, but it's just that Samsung for whatever reason has not fully implemented Project Butter, the biggest feature for many for 4.1 The S3 didn't have as much bloatware as the S4, but when the One X and S3 got updated to JB, the difference was night and day on the One X, while it MOSTLY stayed the same on the S3.
true story, project butter fully implemented even on the One X JB
equally HTC is known to use higher speed internal storage mmc
and of course the whole Sense 5 light thing and being optimized specifically for the s600 (unlike the s4 exynos and s600 duality)
lets just say its a very clean job
regarding 4.2.2, it's even smoother after the OTA especially the app drawer
Dont know if anythings wrong or the reason that im using the power save mode all the time.......my phone lags a bit at times, any other conclusion anyone??

My last samsung was the sgs2, which could be perceived as laggy but in reality wasn't, some of the perceived lagginess was caused by design decisions (eg home botton lag, which was so multiclick combos can be done).
Try another (generic, not specically optimized launcher) launcher on a Galaxy phone and see it not lag at all....

Itd *could* be powersaver if your cpu limit is set. It will limit the cpu speed between 384-1134mhz when its on. 384-1727mhz when its off. Also, if you have alot of apps running in the background using *cpu* that *could* be it too....
AT&T HTC One
ARHD 12.0
Tbalden Perf Kernel 2.1.4 UV/OC/UC
Took the plunge and got the note 5 as been using the note 4 for a while as was pretty much seduced the the new processor and 4gb ram. However upon using it in real life I found the scrolling and smoothness was no where compared to my note 4. I tried to stick a custom kernel on it but still the scrolling was horrible especially on apps like talon for Twitter which I use way too often enough to notice the difference. I didn't bother getting a custom rom as really expected the experience to be great out of the box.
Can you please share your views about the smoothness and scrolling of the nexus 6p please as am really arching to change my phone and really want to try this one out.
Theres already a Thread about this in the Reallife Usage Forum.
I've read, that the performance of the stock tw has been improved on the s7, and am wondering if anyone has tested the battery usage of tw and it's performance compared to let's say nova launcher
If you are talking about the launcher itself only, I dont think it does matter that much in term of battery and performance (maybe nova will be a bit smoother). I dont use TW launcher mainly because of lacking customization

TouchWiz isn't only a launcher. It's the whole overlay. That said, it isn't at all like it used to be. I wouldn't have owned a Samsung, but I decided to take a chance with the Note5 and I am glad I did.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Lol.

Hey guys, so I am sick and tired of the Honor 5X. So I sold that stupid thing and got an S5 as I've used them before and loved them, much snappier.
I'm all about performance. What can I / should I do to make the S5 as fast as possible. Are the custom roms faster? Should I just use Nova Launcher and leave the rest alone? Any recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Custom ROMs makes my s5 feel snappier when opening apps, navigating UI feels much smoother and switching between tasks is quicker. You do lose some gaming/3d performance because of frequency scaling issues, but if that doesn't concern you too much, you should try either LineageOS or Resurrection Remix Nougat. Both are great options.
As for general bugs, camera lacks 4K recording and HFR (camera app crashes). Three loud beeps can be heard when people hang up during phone call. There are other issues as well but that's what I can think from the top of my head

Thank you for the advice.
The camera is a big deal to me, so I don't want to lose that functionality. I won't be using it for gaming though.
I'd advise you to stay on an official Samsung firmware (with no bugs and with a lot of exclusive features) and then install Greenify, Amplify and their xposed modules as well as to try out Boeffla Kernel. My S5 is snappier than ever with my current setup which you may see in my signature below this post. Cheers

Try this. It's custom ROM based on stock ROM without loosing stock camera funcionality.

I've been using it for couple of months. Combined with Boeffla kernel, Xpossed framework, amplify, greenify even viper4android sound mode, it comes with the best performance for me.
I'm not much into greenify/amplify. Never noticed much difference from using them. Xposed is super useful no doubt.
I'm very interested in Boeffla Kernel. Seems like it might definitely be worthwhile.

Yes, it may be fair enough to just try SuperLite ROM as it does not include bloatware found in original stock rom. Then use Boeffla Kernel.
