With Wifi on and Blue Tooth on, was very decent. Averaging around .42% (30.9mA) or less per hour, and last night I think I really did well at only 2% decline over a 12 hour period.
I'd say battery drain is fairly good on this device.
On airplane mode there is virtually zero battery drain. It doesn't lose any % over the night
First time I bought Tab S4 for my wife (64GB version) I turned on Airplane mode then turned on the WiFi + connecting it to my home WiFi.
It stay on standby for 10 days straight & when I checked it still have 50% battery.
I didn't test my Tab S4 256GB version though.
Mine is just draining like crazy even when I am not using it. I've had the tablet for 7 months now, and battery started to drain while unused last week. Let's say I have 100% charge when going to sleep and wake up with 60% of charge remaining. Before, I would drop only to 98 to 97% percent. Anyone with this issue? Anyone solved it? Shall I return the tablet?

Well first off.... I don't think you can return a tablet after 7 months of use.
Second, you said it started recently. What new applications have you placed on it? Updates to applications included. If you have something that monitors the battery drain per application that would be helpful. Since its new you could upgrade your tablet to the new Pie update might help out.
Personally I have had nothing but great luck on my tablet.
I've got the same problem. Brand new S4 LTE on ATT. sitting in my bag, unused, its draining 5% an hour. So I enabled Airplane Mode to cut the Mobile Connections and BT then enabled Wifi Only. Overnight I lost 20%. I'm going to run a new test: Charge to 100% then let it sit for 24 hours in WiFi only and see what happens. I may give a factory reset and set it up completely from scratch to see what happens. If it continues, I'll sell it and Get a Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro. My last 3 phones have been Huaweis and I love them. I like the UI on them and adaptive Power saving is stunning. And Huawei has the in my opinion the email and calendar app. They are linked and I can turn emails into calendar appointments. Thought I was going to Love this S4, so far I only like it and the battery issue is really irritating me. And mine weighs in at 516grams to a claimed 483 ....
No probs here, best tablet ever even comparing to iPad.

my tab S4 is 3 month old and it will only do 5 hours web surfing on wifi. previously it used to last for more than 10 hours. I tried to factory reset, it didn't work. then, I tried updating to pie and it didn't work either. any suggestions
One week of standby use all the battery (with wifi on), it's normal or I have some drain?

I have the same problem, no clue how to fix this. I'm looking for a good iPad deal now...
Made an BetterBatteryStats Dump but this shows no problems: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80827125&postcount=36696
A few days ago I had battery drain too. It was related to Samsung Internet. Uninstalled and reinstalled it and the drain went away.
I'm getting some drain from time to time and the cause seems to be the smart scan (Iris+ face unlock), sometimes it crashes and the processes are stuck running constantly in the background.
The kernel wakelocks according to Betterbatterystats are "video6" and "video5"
And the process that is running in the background is "[email protected]"
A restart solves this drain but eventually it'll come back.
I also had the drain issue after the pie update. I installed WiFi automatic after realizing the drain seemed to be related to no option to allow WiFi to turn off when tablet asleep. I have now set it to turn off 2 minutes after screen off. Just went 20 hours of standby losing only 2%.
I also have a standby drain issue, but it even persists when the tab s4 is powered off. I was away for about 26 hours and I charged the tablet and turned it off before I left. I also unplugged it. When I got back, it was down to 49 percent, after sitting off for 26 hours. I'm not sure what's causing it. It's only been happening for a few weeks or so. It also happens when the tablet is on but in sleep mode.
Battery life in general seems to be worse overall.

I'll test this later today. Charge my phone to 100%, and right before I close my eyes, I'll unplug and see how it does. I'm curious as well.
Typically 0.5% per hour or less with lots of bloatware disabled (200+ apps). Couple gmail accounts, s note and scrapbook syncing.

So I unplugged my phone when it reached 100% and got a notification saying the battery is fully charged and unplugged it at 10:40 pm. About 7 hrs and 20 mins later, my phone dropped to 93%. That's about 1% every hour. My phone is stock, no root (yet) with 17 apps disabled. WiFi is on, brightness was on the lowest setting and all accounts on my phone sync through the the night.
I've never done this with one of my previous phones, so I can't really give you my opinion on how I feel about this. Let me know what you guys think. I'll try disabling some more apps and doing the test again and see if that has some effect.

if you are rooted and have xposed. download Mobileactiveradiofix...bassically some apps you are using that utilize mobile data, after you turn off the screen it still using data....thats the gist of it.
Drain about 1% per hour.
Tried 3G all the way. Not much savings compared to LTE all day
I have the 920CD Dual sim. Horrible Battery standby. I lose 2 - 3% per hour on android system usage while i'm sleeping.
I tried disabling apps etc but to no avail!
During night my phone consumes up to 30% of battery, my stand-by is 16hrs at max!!!. I love my phone but there is an obvious problem about it.
On the other side my wife has the same phone and her battery withstands up to two(2!) days.
(Hers is running on stock firmware with simple tuning, mine is also on stock but i checked and disabled almost everything)
My phone is ; N920CXXU1AOH2 hers is N920CXXU1AOGF. Is there a way i clone her phone firmware and copy into mine?
I think you guys above may have Wakelock. Mine started up recently and it drains up to 15% of my battery from just a bit under 2 hours. Before that it would be fine. Unplugged all night (8hours) and lost 2-3% battery
I couldn't believe this rating was so low. This is the best at standby. Absolutely phenomenal. It's literally around 1-2% an hour. I can get home after 11hrs and still have 70% left. Usually it's around 50% with 2 hrs of screen on time / use.
Got an update yesterday. ..it includes the doze feature from marshmallow. ..vastly improved the standby time
ścribbled from my Note 5
I wouldn't call 1-2% per hour idle time phenomenal, It's average at best.
0.5% per hour (or 2 hours per 1%) I'd say that's very good.
3 hours per 1%, that's excellent. This happens to be my Xperia Z3 Compact's idle time when I sleep.
Phenomenal? It would need to be 4 hours per 1% idle time.
My Note 5 is doing 1% per hour currently.
My iPhone 6s Plus can go over 7 hours standby and still be at 100%. One of my biggest peeves with Android was battery drain. Just switched with the release of the 6s and am very happy. Had the Note 5 and still have the Nexus 6. The doze feature still can't even come close. And it only works if the phone is shelved. Not in the pocket. Not good enough for me.
Please everyone who has the drain, write samsung feedback on their support website. It is most of the time caused by the wlan_rx_wake, wlan_cntrl_wake and wlan_wake wakelocks. I am trying to find a fix but so far nothing has helped me except turning off wifi.

Really? I can live without WiFi most of the time if it helps my battery.
I was getting great battery life, I stopped using the Note 5 for about 3 weeks while I reviewed some other devices and when I return I'm loosing 5% an hour, doing nothing. I've done a factory reset once, slightly better, but still not great. Might try another tomorrow.
Let us know if you find a fix.

just like you .. I come from a s6 and did not have this problem, hopefully be resolved soon
During night, I switch off mobile network and wifi, but both SIM still active for phonecalls. Drain this way is around 0.5% per hour or 3%-4% per night - depending on how long I sleep
Frankly, I only used the phone with the latest update so, I have no idea about battery performance before it. Anyways, I'm getting great overnight battery performance, with 3% dropping in 7-8 hours (mobile data, wifi and bluetooth off).
all data and BT off and you're dropping 3%? Turn your phone off and you'll drop 0%
Mediaserver, system and kernel kill my standby. Is it worth factory reset or should I hang out for marshmallow?

I'm getting roughly 2.5% battery drain per hour during standby. Worse than the OnePlus 6t
From 100% I unplugged at night around 23.00 and in the morning 5.00am I've got 92%, it's on Wifi.. Worse battery for s10+ Exynos
As far as I remember, a few years back, my old Galaxy phone with customised rom will only lose 2% battery during the night. Now, it's about 8%-10%.
Do you have AoD enabled? And also do you have Mobile data always active enabled in developers options? (it makes your phone keep mobile data connection going even while you are on wifi and thus draining battery faster)
My S10 is draining 2,5% per hour during the night after 3 times charging and discharging (slow charging) My old S8 about 1%. I think 2,5% is to much..
Samsung needs to fix this thing. This problem used to come in old smartphone days. Its 2019. How their QA team passing it?

any idea how to reach samsung regarding this battery drain??
Twitter maybe? Or Discord?
First day back at work and between 7 am and 16:45 I lost approx 20%. In that time I used BBC news for about 10 mins and Facebook for 10 minutes. No AOD and I had medium power saving mode on. All that time on 4G with strong signal.
Based on that I am losing approx 2% an hour which isn't much better than my 2 year old S7 if I am honest!!
Very bad standby drain.. Even when S10+ full charge 100%, set to airplane mode, wifi off, data off, sync off, AOD off, and set many app to sleep, from 23.00 to 5am, battery left 92%... It's worse than any huawei
1% over 5 hours at night.
AOD on tap.
WiFi LTE Bt all off.

I have around 1% per hour on S10 exynos model, which is normal.
Im on SD + and the battery life is the WORST I've had in years on any phone. Combine that with the HORRIBLE fingerprint scanner, this junk is going back. Im not a Guinea pig for Samsung. Rush to get crap out is not an effective way of doing business, with so many competitors out there.
3% over 7.5 hours last night
No deep sleep?
S10 exynos here
No battery drain on my Exynos S10. From 23:00 to 6:30, only 3%. Same as S9+
AOD, BT off
Wifi on
But on 4G it seems worse but didn't test it yet.
I left my S10 with airplane mode turned on last night, and after 6 hours it went down from 100 to 93%.
Thats not good at all as I had turned off everything.

My s6 wifi version has very good battery life compared to the s3 I upgraded from. Imo
I'm getting horrible standby time dropped 60% in 14 hours with almost no use. Where are those setting mine look different.
Found the settings, but mine are all set right. Doing a full charge now and gonna see if I can find anything using battery, but I suspect the tablet is never going into deep sleep
I found that there's a bug when charging with the keyboard case closed around the tablet.
If the case was closed and I put the tablet on the charger then take it off the charger. I would find it had lost 40% the next morning.
If I open the case & close the case after removing the charger I would only loose 1~2%.
What I'm thinking is that "Fast Charging ...%" that is visible during charging (even with the case closed) sets the screen to active.
However, it seems that removing the charger with the case closed, the tablet isn't picking up that the case is closed and keeps the screen somehow active.
(That's why, opening & closing the case resets that state and the tablet goes into proper idle/sleep mode again with the screen state in off mode.)
Tested it around 3 times now and each time it seems to be this exact issue.
Mine dropped 2% of battery per hour during standby with no apps run in the background.

+1 on this. I had an S3 and unplugged overnight I'd drop almost 50%. As a test I barely used the tablet for 4 days but didn't charge it and 4 days later I still had a good 30% charge left.

That's horrible battery life. I have barely touched my s4 since I got this and its dropped 20 percent. This tablet dropped 20 percent sitting for 8 hours today. Looking at battery usage it only shows 1% device idle and nothing else. I'm going to return and swap for different tablet. Hopefully I just got a bad battery, but it seems prevelent.
Ok, so that answers that. I returned my tab s6 and exchanged for new one and got keyboard case. The new one has been sitting all day and is still at 100 % with slight use. The old one you could watch the battery drop and on standby it would lose 20 % overnight. I have all the same apps installed and all the same apps disabled. Something was wrong with that tab.
Interesting followup is since I got my new tab it started showing standby drain again. So I've been experimenting and at first I thought it was leaving tablet in dex mode, but now I think it's related to multi-lock and using the "don't pause" apps option. I use this for videos and games to stay running while I check email of forums in multiwindow. I think when I have this one and I have apps running and close the lid or press the power these apps prevent sleeping. I'm still experimenting and hopefully will know more soon.

Skickat från min SM-T865 via Tapatalk
yeah it's kind of random, to me it definitely seem related to leaving apps open when you turn off the tablet. I've seen the drain with and without the keyboard attached, in and out of dex mode. Some morning I lose 3% overnight, some mornings it's more like 20%

Going to try this as well. Mine has been dropping up to 60 percent overnight which is absolutely ridiculous. Even with airplane mode on and bloatware disabled.
I am having the same issues with my Tab S6 Lte.
Huge drain during the night. Battery settings correct with all battery savings on. Most often I even enable flight mode to save power.
When checking what have caused the battery drain, and I put all those percentages together I don't get a number that is nowhere near the actual battery drain.
So something is clearly wrong and some process is draining the battery that doesn't show up in the list of apps battery usage.
Thought it was just me!
This is very interesting.
My wife got hers about 2 weeks before mine arrived.
She's an English teacher and uses it anything from 8 to ten hours a day. High brightness, keyboard case attached.
She gets around 3 days usage before she needs to charge. (Primarily uses Dex)
Set mine up, and I'm charging every night! Stand by drain is shocking compared to my S10+
I'm going to wipe it and slowly check battery differences with any change I make (app installed, setting changed, environment changed)
See if I can isolate what's causing it.
It used to be pretty decent here but lately I've been having some insane battery drain issues. It started when I switched to the book cover, so I'd say GiantAxe is right on the mark, shame on you samsung..
Idle drain is all good here, nothing out of the ordinary.
Idle battery drain is really getting on my nerves!
Initially the I didn't really notice the overnight battery drain, as I'm never used to looking at the battery of my devices every morning. But one day, a drop of 50% did strike me and since then I'm just developing kinda OCD over this issue . It's pretty random too, 2 to 5% an hour. I've tried restricting background use for most of the apps and it still persists. Nowadays, its like I pick the tablet only to check the battery percentage and nothing else! Very frustrating.
I'll keep experimenting like all others and post if I find a culprit.
I hope we'll be able to close this thread with a solution!

Phone lost 24% overnight. Culprit seems to be Facebook services, which in turn triggered Google services (for GPS location). I've disabled all the FB crap now and I'll see how it goes today...

The 730G is dreadful on my Xiaomi Mi Note 10 - which has an even bigger, ~5200mAh battery. It performs much worse than my OnePlus 7 Pro with 4000mAh. IMO the chipset (730/730G) is NOT power efficient.

Likely a device specific problem. Notebookcheck test power consumption in idle, sd 730/g phones are within the same range of comparable mid range SOCs. A71 in particular consumes pretty much the same as Pixel 3a for example (Snapdragon 670), more under load but it's quite a bit more powerful as well, consumes less than Galaxy A51 (Exynos 9611), way less than Huawei P30 lite (Kirin 710) and quite a bit less than Oneplus 7 pro as well for that matter. It uses the same modem as sd 710 and 712 so that's not a problem either.
I have 2-4% standby battery drain. But I checked all apps for background battery usage, I don't use facebook app. The only background apps I use are email, sense flip clock and I use greenify on top of that.

Hey, am thinking of buying an A71 and was wondering if you still have battery issues please?
I have wifi off and Bluetooth for watch, No FB . I get 1 or 2% loss mainly messenger lite , and my games I don't shut down .. with wifi on an average day its about 40% loss . that with wifi always on , games being played, youtube etc ... Since taking of FB I have noticed a huge difference, as before I was loosing 10/20 % at night and 70% in the day ... now I charge once every 2 days, which is not bad ...

if its not gonna helpful , just check what app drain your battery in setting
Same problem. Just got mine and lost 25% overnight. AOD is not even on. I disabled Facebook the instant I took it out of the box so it isn't that. Must be another app but not sure which. All the same apps I was using on my previous device and had no issues like this.
My battery life is horrible on my A71, I come home from work with 10%, on my P20 Pro which has a smaller battery is 65-70%. I have already used package disabler to disable the crap and its still happening. Going to be returning this phone.
Standby Drain on A71 Samsung
I have the phone for 1 week now and the battery I can say is performing very poor. Just got it to 100% then after 1 minute suddenly went to 99% and after 5 mins suddenly went to 98% just on standby mode. Can anyone please explain me why this is happening?
My device is always optimized (no background processes running). Every app (even the useful ones) I have put to sleep, which means I'm sacrificing on not getting the notifications when the internet is connected as those those apps are put to sleep but I did it just to put my battery on right track. Still no significant benefit.
Standby drain is the biggest issue I'm facing. Early 2% drops from 100% for no reason at all. At night time, I see at least 3% drop in 4 to 5 hours standby with wifi off and zero brightness and dark mode on and always-on display disabled, battery saving mode on and no app running in the background.
I'm having 1% battery drop every 10 mins for just reading comments on XDA developer or GSMArena with brightness to 0%, no extra app working in background, have put all the apps to sleep when not in use, no multimedia use, always-on display disabled, dark mode on, battery saving mode on. So, when I'm using Chrome, I'm only using Chrome. When I'm watching Youtube videos on app with 20% brightness and 60% volume, I'm having 1% drop every 7 to 8 mins. I see variability between each % drop. Like for example, sometimes it drops 1% at 4 mins interval and after that it will take 8 mins to drop a percent.
I have never been so confused in terms of battery life before. Someone from Samsung should at least come forward and explain to us what is going on.
From the reviews, the new updates doesn't have much to offer in terms of battery life. I haven't gotten the update yet.

Had the same issue and no matter what I did couldn’t fix it. I turned this off turned that off, lowered this, reduced that. In the end I gave up and returned it. Shouldn’t be that much of an effort but then it always seems to be with Samsung. Huawei for example it’s just ready to go and works flawlessly out of the box. For a phone that had 4500mah battery it performs nothing like it. I bought the new iPhone SE, it’s battery is tiny 1800mah or something and it lasts longer than the A71.
47% overnight, with no use. It's my second A71. The first, the battery seemed normal. But I did not observe this detail carefully. I changed it the first time due to the infamous discoloration defect of the screen on a gray background with low brightness. Now the second, in addition to the same discoloration defect of the screen, the battery does not last! I went to sleep, the battery at 47%. Wifi off. Mobile data off. GPS off. Bluetooth turned off. Vibration off. Always on Display off. NFC Off. Sim card removed. Only Whatsapp running in the background. All other apps have been configured to be suspended in the background. Approximately 8 hours later, without any use, the battery has zeroed. I have a Samsung Galaxy A7 2017, which has 3 years of use and a 3600MAh battery worn by hundreds of charge cycles, and yet its battery is WELL better than the Galaxy A71, which has 4500MAh and a few days of use. If a new cell phone discharges at this rate, imagine after about 2 years of use. You will need to recharge every hour. Turning the adaptive battery on or off for me made no difference. During normal use, it discharges quickly, but the problem is much more evident at night, when the device is not in use. It seems to drain as much energy in idle mode as in normal use.
The quality of Samsung's products is dropping every day. 3 years ago, you could buy an intermediary made of metal and glass. Protection IP68, OIS and Gorilla Glass 4. Today, the devices that cost almost the same as the high end, are all made of plastic. Without IP68. Gorilla Glass 3 (obsolete technology from 2013), without OIS, and batteries that although bigger, last less. Quality decreases and price increases. It is unfortunate.

The 730G is dreadful on my Xiaomi Mi Note 10 - which has an even bigger, ~5200mAh battery. It performs much worse than my OnePlus 7 Pro with 4000mAh. IMO the chipset (730/730G) is NOT power efficient.

I have the 730G 8GB ram variant on my A71 (This is the standard in the PH) and my phone lasts for 2 days with social media and youtube usage. OST is between 6-7 hours so no issues with the chip itself, the phone software is probably not optimized properly with the Mi Note 10.

So what's happening to the other people in this thread? Is it a case of just too many bad apples (bad/broken devices) or... ?

I think we need to put things into context first. None of them talked about what apps they had running, what settings they used, etc. Also, the other dude talked about the Huawei when that phone is known to aggressively kill apps very quickly in the background to save battery as a default. You can also do that with Sammy's but you need to activate it first.
As for my phone, it's set on its default out of the box-setting which is optimized if that at all matters.

I think we also need to look at which carriers are having issues. I have an open line international variant and I've had none of the issues in this thread.

Hey, am thinking of buying an A71 and was wondering if you still have battery issues please?

If you can find an open line (not tied to any carrier) international variant, it doesn't have any issues.

Phone lost 24% overnight. Culprit seems to be Facebook services, which in turn triggered Google services (for GPS location). I've disabled all the FB crap now and I'll see how it goes today...
Update 19/02 - I'm using Swipe Pro for Facebook and since then the battery seems to have settled. Getting really good battery life now with not too much standby drain.

Mine was a bit power hungry at first 6 months ago
Now that i shut off and tried to kill all processes but active ones my battery is AMAZING!
So to compare I read your post last night at around 11 ish to midnight topped off the phone to 94%, and it dropped to 93% just before i went to sleep
killed all the processes with built in battery device care and also greenify.
woke up today at 8:30am and the batter was at 90% and dropped to 89% after a min of use.
So 3-4% over eight or nine hours.... I"m pretty happy with that.
When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the Samsung Galaxy S21 / S21+ / S21 Ultra's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Latest OTA introduced some bug. I tried fixing it with wiping cache, it does not help. Others tried wiping whole phone, does not help either. Just gotta wait for Samsung to fix it...
I think disabling location scanning with wifi and bluetooth fixed the drain for me.
Did all the battery saving tweaks available on my regular Exynos S21 (including location scanning with WiFi + Bt), but I'm still experiencing from 3-3.5% idle battery drain. I'm seriously considering a return but have only two remaining days to decide.

Experiencing the same.. After February patch the idle drain on mobile data is crazy high. Losing around 6-7% per hour in idle.
5-6% is premium... once i plug off the device from charger in around 5 hours standby (no wifi, 4g, nfc, bt active) 20% battery drain... this is crazy..
Sorry everyone, I did not fix anything. It seemed like this for me yesterday but it went to s*** at night. It's faulty OTA and Samsung is apparently aware of the issue. We have to wait for the update unfortunately... Nice QA

What for if I may ask? I'm basically using it with wifi all the time and VoWIFI so not sure it even uses mobile atm, bluetooth off as well. Still draining
Hi everyone. I don't think I have the same issue you say after february update. What I have realised is that DQA service, that you can see in System apps, takes more than 100% of battery used since last full charge. I usually plug the charger when the phone is around 20% and I stop it when its about 80%, so I wonder if that service is adding % because it needs to count since the very beggining of battery %, I mean, 100%.
Edited: I left the phone in plane mode last night at 10:30 with 80% till 6:30 this morning, having changed to 78%, so it's a normal drain of battery, I think.
I´ll try this weekend with carrier range on in 2G and will comment.
today there was new update for s21 series. let's see what happens with it.
Installed today's new update and it seems to have sorted the drain.
Let's see how it goes overnight and a full day tomorrow.
In what country is the update available?
Installed package disabler and naptime. Will let you know bit if made difference

Any other tweaks ?
For those who read XDA from Spain, the second February update to solve battery drain while using 4G has already been released today in that county.
This video was useful for two S21 settings and setups for me
Hello folks, I got my first Samsung phone (S21 5G Exynos) around mid of Februar. The Phone installed the latest Firmware/Software (AUB8) without problems. What really chocked me was the drastic power drain during standby in the nights. Overnight in standby, always about 30% (!) battery drain. Regardless whatever settings, powersavings etc. That's about 3% per hour loss (in standby!), absolute crazy.
Yesterday I found somebody in the QXDA forum that suggested:
TURN OFF the VoLTE ==== Bingo!!!
I have now only around 5% loss during the night in standy (5G activated, power saving turned off)
Thank's a lot for the help through this forum.
I hope Samsung brings an update with optimized lower VoLTE power usage.
hello
Thanls @Mickepilot for the tips
Personnaly i put my S21 in airplane mode all the nighty and i loss 1 % for 7 hour, it's really correct and i don't for call during my sleep )
Unfortunately, Samsung did NOT fix the standby drain issue with ACTIVATED "VoLTE" in the new "AUBB" update. The battery still drains about 3% per hour with "VoLTE" selected ON.
However, with "VoLTE" switched OFF, I get only about 0.5% drain per hour. Same as before the update.
