Galaxy S6 Official Oreo Update - Galaxy S6 General

I am making this thread because i see that quite a bit of people are wondering if 3 year old flagship from Samsung is going to receive Oreo.
Yes it is. No release date yet. It was confirmed to me by Samsung here are some screenshots

Wow I hope thats true. I think we annoyed Samsung so much with that question that they considered just to make that update

Galaxy S6 Android Oreo Update
Galaxy S6 Android Oreo Update
Samsung still isn’t saying much about its future plans for Android Oreo so we can’t tell you anything with one hundred percent certainty. That said, we can tell you a little bit about Samsung’s history.
The company typically keeps its Galaxy devices upgraded with major Android software updates for two years before killing off support. The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge started on Android Lollipop and they’ve been upgraded to Android Marshmallow and Android Nougat.
The Galaxy S6 celebrated its third birthday in April which means there’s a very good chance it’ll stay put on Android Nougat. After all, Samsung Turkey and Samsung Canada have both left the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge off lists outlining upcoming Android Oreo updates.
The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge also have disappeared from Samsung’s list of quarterly and monthly security updates. This all but confirms bad news for those of you holding out hope for Oreo. The Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy S6 Active both remain on the list.
There’s also a chance Samsung decides to push a third major update to the Galaxy S6 series.
The company still hasn’t released an official list of devices getting upgraded Android 8.0 Oreo, but we’ve seen unofficial lists appear on Weibo and XDA-Developers.
The list from Weibo includes the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6 Active while the list from XDA-Developers, which is based on data pulled from the Galaxy Note 8 Oreo update, doesn’t.
T-Mobile’s also seemingly confirmed Android Oreo updates for the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy Note 5, but nothing is official until Samsung itself confirms the development.
According to multiple Samsung customer service reps, the Galaxy S6 will be getting Android Oreo. The information comes from threads on Reddit and XDA-Forums where posters state they were told that the company is currently working on a Galaxy S6 Android Oreo update behind the scenes.
One customer rep went as far as to say the Galaxy S6 Android 8.0 Oreo update is set to arrive sometime in January or February. That obviously didn’t happen.
Customer service representatives have been known to push bogus information to those asking questions over the phone and online so take this information with an immense grain of salt.
If Samsung does update the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6 Active with Android Oreo it will inch the company’s software support closer to Apple’s support for the iPhone. Apple typically keeps iPhones updated for four (five now that the iPhone 5s is getting iOS 12) years before kicking them to the curb.
At this point though, Galaxy S6 users shouldn’t be holding their breath.
Galaxy S6 Oreo Release Date
If Samsung decides to release Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy S6, and that’s a huge if, it probably won’t release the software in June.
With the Android Oreo update just now hitting the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, we’re likely months away from a roll out. If there is one.
Samsung Canada’s confirmed Android Oreo support for the Galaxy Xcover4, Galaxy A8, Galaxy J3 Prime, Tab A8 and Tab A10.1. The regional arm says those updates will arrive later in 2018.
It makes no mention of the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge.
Having launched more than two years before than Android Oreo’s release, the Galaxy S6 is not eligible for the Android 8.0 update.
soo wait and see fellaazzz!!!

The S6 never get Oreo officially
In that way, the port of A8 2016 with Oreo is under development.

G928f too.

G928T too

G920v too. Still no unlocked bootloader but I have workaround for rom

And also g920i

Can you just stop posting like every S6 series variants... When developers will need testers they will ask for.

So will be an official android oreo for s6 or not ?
Anyone have another news ?
Thanks for your answer

[DISCUSSION] Samsung starts Nougat firmware development for the Galaxy S6/ S6 Edge

Samsung starts Nougat firmware development for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge
The official Android 7.0 Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge is underway, and we are all hoping that Samsung will bring out the final update as quickly as it can. Many have wondered about how Samsung plans to proceed with the Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge, the two devices that brought about the company’s new direction in smartphones. Well, there is a possibility that the S6 lineup’s Nougat update might not be too far behind the S7′s, as Samsung has now started development of Nougat firmware for the S6 devices.
The initial Nougat firmware for the S6 lineup carries build number XXS5DPK7. Naturally, the build number will change on the final firmware that will roll out to S6 and S6 edge owners around the world. Also note that it can be a few months before work on the firmware development finishes, as there are a lot of things that need to be taken care of before an update can be rolled out to the masses. The S6 and S6 edge are unlikely to get the update before 2017; in fact, Samsung probably isn’t going to bring Android 7.0 to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge before next year, either.
Nougat will bring a lot of changes and new features to Samsung’s devices, although it’s unclear if the company’s new UX will make its way to its 2015 flagships (it really should given the consistency Samsung has brought to its software across different devices since last year). Do check out our What’s New with Nougat series to see all the changes Nougat brings to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

Do you guys think we are getting atleast the GRACE UX from the GS7 nougat update to our GS6?
Can we download this firmware yet ?
actually we already have discussion topic on nougat
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/discussion-android-7-0-nougat-t3445561/page19
no need to make new one on related subject
Please note, if there's nothing related to your topic on "S6 General" than you may grant to create a thread however under the XDA policy you are NOT permitted to create a thread that is identical to the previous thread. This may potentially lead to closure of your account. Thanks for understanding!

Hi,
Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially dead now? I mean software side. Where is the S5's Official Nougat update?
Samsung Galaxy S5 released 2014 April and it took last big update in 2016 March. 1 year 11 month official OS update support time.
Competitor's introduced phone at the same time still receiving OS updates.
Samsung Galaxy S5 users dont you feel worthless?
If samsung did this to me I would never buy Samsung again. Because I know the value of my money. Samsung just force you to replace your phone due to lack of updates. It's a cheap trick for a make profit.
Samsung Galaxy S6 will probably also stay on Android 7.0
Samsung Galaxy S7 will probably also stay on Android 8.0
Samsung Galaxy S8 will probably also stay on Android 9.0
Samsung Galaxy S series users what do you think about that?
Its not a good strategy for a create loyal buyers. That strategy creates own haters.

rooted, twrp'd and ROM'd, dont feel worthless at all as i havent got OTA's since the 4th day of owning this device, and that was 3 years ago
that and the problem with the S5 is that that there are over a dozen version of it and they all have their own specific quirks that Samsung would have to allow for
Why the hate? And why ask that question on xda? xda users don't tend to rely on 'official' updates anyway. I rooted my S5, used CWM and flashed CM12 (or whatever it was then) the second day I owned my S5. I now have Lineage 14.1, SIM unlocked 32gb µSD card, it is working like a pro! I don't plan to get a newer phone anytime soon.
Thread closed as it is of no relevance as of now.

Good News Infinity Users -> Android 7.1 for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ To Roll Out Soon

Good News Infinity Users -> Android 7.1 for Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ To Roll Out Soon
Samsung’s decision to ship the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ with Android 7.0 left many confused. The latest version of Google’s mobile operating system at the flagship’s launch was Android 7.1. It made sense for the company to release its new handset with the latest version of Android but it didn’t do that.
Then again, it’s not like the Android 7.1 update adds any major new features that Galaxy S8 owners have missed out on. It brings new emoji, launcher actions for the Pixel launcher and other minor tweaks. The emoji and launcher updates don’t really matter to Galaxy S8 owners since Samsung uses its own versions of both on its handsets.
Nevertheless, the Android 7.1 update for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ should be rolling out soon. Vodafone Australia has updated its website to reflect that the new firmware release has been submitted for review. This means that it’s in the final stage before roll out.
The carrier itself mentions that this is going to be a “Stability and Bug Fix” update so users shouldn’t expect much in the way of new features. With a major Australian carrier coming close to rolling out Android 7.1 for Galaxy S8, it’s only a matter of time before said update is released for the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in other markets across the globe.

Also 7.1.1 bring app shortcut so basically one major useful feature
I would expect September released most of the case.
Very very late when my second device Axon 7 has 7.1.1 from April.

Galaxy J7 Prime - Android 8.0 Oreo update confirmed

Samsung is yet to release Android 8.0 Oreo for flagship devices like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8 so it really can’t be said for sure when the update will filter down to its premium mid-range lineup, let alone compatible low-end devices. Nevertheless, one of its carrier partners has revealed that the Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy Tab E Android 8.0 Oreo update will arrive in due course.
Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy Tab E Android 8.0 Oreo update
Samsung has been running an Android 8.0 Oreo beta program for the past couple of months. It has only released beta firmware for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. The company is yet to confirm when it will roll out Oreo for all users but it’s expected to do that in the near future.
The company itself hasn’t said anything about the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Galaxy J7 Prime and the Galaxy Tab E. The information comes from T-Mobile’s update tracker. The carrier has one on its website which informs users what stage the upcoming software update for their device is in.
The support pages for both handsets mention that the Oreo update is in “manufacturer development” phase. This means that Samsung is working on Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy Tab E. It will obviously be released for these devices long after the flagships have had their turn.
If T-Mobile is due to receive this update, users on other carriers and in other markets can result assured that they will get Oreo on their units as well later this year.

[Discussion] Updates About The Official Oreo Update

Hi Guys In This Thread We Will Talk About The Official Oreo Update For Note 5
Any one knows any new news
Kindly post it :good:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung-galaxy-android-8-o-update
The weird thing For Now That They Put the Galaxy s6 in (These Galaxys may or may not get Android 8.0) category
And You can see in gsm arena they that galaxy s6 is planned To be Upgraded .
But They put The note 5 in (These Galaxys will not get Android 8.0) category
And If you asked me why I’m talking too much about galaxy s6 and the connection between it and the note 5 i find the answer pretty obvious ,
actually if you compare the hardware between them you will find that they have the same Chipset and the same CPU and the same GPU !!!!!
So You Can Say It’s Not A Hardware issue .
If oreo will not come to note5 and came for s6e then the devs will port it for note5

From Sammy firmware, like S8, S9 and Note 8, the problem are the kernel and libs, bur more for this last; And from AOSP, someone make a build and share in this forum.

I hope , but it will be a stupid move from Samsung
Accordoing to me , Samsung won't give Oreo to Galaxy S6. Because it have taken two major upgrades.
We can only wait for Galaxy A8 (2016). But on the other hand, it's not a flagship device. So, maybe Samsung will give Oreo to Galaxy A8 (2016).
There is no hope for me.
It's a joke not to update at least the s6 and note 5.
Especually since people went two years nearly with the note 4 and 5 being the only notes. And Samsung didn't give either of them justified updates making up for that fact.
Its not Samsung though. Sadly all companies are like this. Google is pretty much no better. And the only ones that give any more have weak uis in comparison.
And anyone claiming about i phones getting updates is clearly too niave to speak on the matter
Note 5/S6 Edge will receive at least 7.1.1. For Example Note 4 start with 4.4.4 and received 5.0.1>5.1.1>6.0.1=3 updates. Note 5 start 5.1.1 and receive 6.0>7.0=2. Next between android 7.0 and 8.0 are not much changes. So why no called 7.5? Maybe merketing and full of numers are reserved only for the newest devices.
This is why I'll never get a Samsung phone ever again. They are only supported for 2 Android versions, the software sucks, lack of support for Exynos cpu.
I've been impressed with the Xiaomi's I've used. The screens are not as good as Samsung. But even Samsung's screens are not good compared to LG.
