Moto G5 Plus Updates

Has this phone received ANY updates? When I run Motorola's update through the Android Settings app, I'm told the phone is up-to-date, but the phone is still running Android 7.0 with a 1/1/17 security patch... is this some kind of joke?

My updates are from September. Not sure what's going on with your updates. You can manually update via fastboot or TWRP if you aren't getting them...

How do I do this?

The UK finally got the May security patch a week or so ago and when i asked Moto UK about updates they were a little terse with their answer.
I have loved my Moto phones since owning a Moto Defy but i have been looking at Nokia handsets and they seem very good for the money and with the promise of timely updates.

There's a thread in here somewhere with all the firmware links for TWRP. Those are all flashable if you have it. If not, there's another thread with fastboot firmware. Just gotta find which you need and get cracking

Yes, I believe the August 1st security patch, Android 7.0 is the latest update for the US variant. Build number is NPN25. 137-83.

I got mine from Amazon UK and it's on the august patch.
It's dual SIM, that might make a difference?

Yep. I'm on RETUS and that is the latest version.

i am using Indian variant and having 1st November 2017's security update.

5 months without any security update, that's a lot of time.
Mine is on reteu, NPNS25.137-33-11.
Just talked to motorolla on the chat and they said that don't know when the next security patch will be available. For a phone that has release last year on February, the support/updates should be more active. A little bit disappointed with that.

New patch from November 1, on January, almost six months after last one! Not bad two per year if lucky

Already got it. I have TA-1021 as well. I got it like 2 days ago, directly from Oreo Beta.

The official oreo has rolling out but region to region, If you are from India then you can hit system updates or there is a thread which can help you guys getting it

I got the Oreo official update directly from Oreo beta. The official Oreo update included the January security patch as well. It got updated via OTA *directly* from beta, through system update.
My build number now, is 00A0_5_220

But i didn't get January update
I m on oreo beta with December security patch
What should i do now...any suggestions???

Roll back by mena firmware, then manually update till January 2018
Then try the method present here

Also i would like to suggest you to flash till January 2018 patch (nougat)
Cause its has the maximum to get the oreo

Well, I'd say restart your phone a couple times maybe, and then try and check for system update every now and again. I'm sure the update will come soon. It'll be an update of approx 1.8GB. OR, if you wanna flash and then get oreo, you have that method above ^.

German DBT here, still nothing... first thought because of the Oreo Update, but this will take some time

In Italy two carriers released an update with security patches updated at 1 February and small tweakes like working Samsung Pay (in Italy) and updated Weather widgets (S8 style)

Im from Puerto Rico and nothing after January update too.

What the hell is happening? Almost everyone got the february update and DBT nothing yet.

I know... I've seen it on sammobile. Almost every little country get the February update... And no DBT. Would be a dream, if we get Oreo with March Security update first.

Still nothing for DBT... This is starting to look like we are going to get Oreo first(with March security patch).

That's nice and all but DBT(unlocked Germany) is still on january patch.

Totally agree with you. I hope the Oreo update won't take long to come on our devices.

Well I have been using phone since I got the February update and except new weather widget (like on s8) I didn't notice any cosmetic changes. But I can tell that (for me) phone works more fluid and faster than before.

For the future idiots comments that i'll read...June is the last term for "Q2 2018" so the last hope to see the major update. We will see, personally day after day my hope goes down...but i really wish i could be wrong

I really hope it will happen. Because the same thing has happened to the B399 update (the B398 update has also had the December patches in it, but the B399 update has rolled out instead.

Noone seems to be concerned that Honor/Huawei released "May 2018 security patches" in.. April?
I'm trying to find any information about what is being corrected, but there isn't seem to be anything there. Are they trolling? Or is it a fake security patch?

When do you think "next month patch" is written and tested ?
OEM most probably have google patches before their official release, for testing purposes. Such as : https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-a1-android-8-1-oreo-beta/
The "fake patches" you're talking about are incomplete security patches, in which a few patches are missing, not fully faked ones.

are saying the update is coming with Oreo and with the June security patch for Oreo, not for Nougat. As the soak tests haven't even started it is not expected that Oreo comes to our device before August.

In the release notes of Motorola it says Oreo and June security patch which probably means the security patch for Oreo, not for Nougat.

I am not sure if the soak test even started. So this was expected.
The Oreo will probably come somewhere in the next 2 months.
