AT&T Baseband / Modem - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have gone back to my Exynos S7 Edge from my Snap unrooted ATT Note 8 .......
I'm trying the newer Oreo ROMs but it would appear that the newly flashed later baseband modem files pretty much suck for reception on ATT. Any suggestions for the best current ATT baseband that will work with the newer ROMs like Oreo ?
Also after having been gone for almost a year from the forum any suggestions for the best ROM experience currently ??
Thanks

Stock Baseband and Superman ROM

Hi everyone. I'm thinking about flashing Superman ROM on my SM-G935F S7 Edge.
My stock firmware indicates that my baseband version is G935FXXU1BPHJ. The Superman ROM, on the other hand, uses G935FXXU1BPIF.
My question is the following: If I were to flash Superman on my phone, would this baseband difference affect my phone? Would radios fail to work or would I suffer from any other problems?
I'm using the phone in South America (Argentina) and the stock firmware works just fine, since this is the international variant of the phone. I am not that savvy when it comes to Android yet, since I'm pretty new to the platform.
Thanks.
Small p.s. questions: Is there anything in particular I need to disable before flashing a rom? Some security measures?

G900F Rom Recommendation

Hi,
I have a G900F I got in the UK and I've just moved to Canada with. Problem is it doesn't support some of the bands here so I find I often have a poor signal. I'm happy with the stock ROM but I believe if I am to open it up for all bands I need a custom ROM.
I don't need anything too flashy, but I'd like everything to work and be responsive.
In terms of the most complete ROMs it seems LineageOS Official and Resurrection Remixed are the most popular. Can anyone comment? How about Android 6 vs 7?
Thanks
Used to use resurrection but now that I've moved to lineage os I can say that its better and getting improved every update it gets

g900f is almost identical if not the exact same as the canadian s5 g900w8.
you would need to use correct freq for your carrier, search will provide a howto. worse case scenario is to flash a canadian 6.0.1 modem from any canadian 6.0.1 stock fw
if trying to figure out connectivity, stay w/stock first as modems are from stock fw.
imo try superlite 6.0.1, it stock based and only takes a few minutes to install that way you can test out your carrier connectivity issues

So I can keep my stock firmware and just replace the G900F baseband (G900FXXS1CQAV) with the Bell Canada SM-G900W8 Modem and everything will be the same except the phone will work on the Bell Canada frequencies?
I had been planning to follow this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-add-rf-lte-frequency-bands-to-t2886059 to enable the 1700MHz band which is disabled on the G900F, but if flashing a Canadian modem will enable this band that sounds easiest.
Do I need to download the full 1.5GB firmware and extract the modem from it?
Thanks

ive never tried flashing a mdm from another model as ive never needed to for the s5.
ive not read enough to know if its possible or if it has any neg consequences.
easiest would be to change freq w/current mdm, search for samsung secret service codes to view and maybe change current freq
good place to start is here https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729694
I've done a lot of research on this forum. Most people say that installing G900W8 firmware on G900F isn't possible. Also it seems that it is the NVRAM which stores what bands are allowed on what model, so simply flashing a different modem won't make a difference.
Some people are saying that the hardware is different and this is what limits the bands, but I don't believe so, the radio/modem chip is the same version between models.
Trying to follow the link I posted earlier to change the NVRAM values after installing a custom ROM appears to be the only way. Some people say it works, and others say it only appears to work. The original thread was closed years ago so I guess I'll just need to try it and see.
Alternatively I could buy 2 phones, one W8 to use in Canada and a F to use in Europe, this seems silly though.

Worth it to root Sprint s7 Edge at this point?

Hey guys, just looking for some opinions here on whether or not people think it's worth it to root the s7 Edge right now. I just picked one up and it has MM and binary 4 on it, so I figure I need to decide if I want to root it before taking any updates. Does the official oreo seem decent? Is there any way to make touchwiz feel less touchwiz-y without root? Thanks!
I would advise to not update to any build after october 2017 if you plan on switching between carriers other than sprint as sprint is the only carrier to have updated the bootloader to 5 and many seem to believe the others won't. rooting is possible either way.
Thanks, so downgrading the bootloader is not possible once it's been updated even with root? I see on sammobile that there are several 935U firmware versions for sprint that are 7.0 but have binary 4, are these viable options? I do have a gear S3 so i would like to not lose samsung pay/S-Health, that still happens when rooted right?

Correct, once you update to any G935P firmware QJ3 or above you will be stuck unable to install any other firmware and unable to downgrade whatsoever, even with root...Trust me i'm stuck in this particular issue atm as I obtained this parts phone with the sprint motherboard that had QJ3 firmware with the bootloader 5 on it and now am unable to use it on my verizon account leaving me with having to obtain another motherboard. the 935U firmwares are completely viable options, they are just debloated and come without carrier modifications, If you need any assistance with anyting further i'd be glad to help, i don't proclaim to be a pro, but after months of research and trails on the G935P I've learned quite a bit on the do's and don'ts lol.
You are awesome, thank you! Are the roms posted in the general s7 edge section working for the sprint variant? The specific forum for the G935P is very dead. Im just weighing pros and cons of rooting, if there are good roms that improve performance and battery life available and magisk is working I think it'd be worth it to root for me

I would look more into the roms listed under verizon and at&t variants of the S7E, they are more active and most roms are made with multi-carrier support...they will say in the installation guides, but the ones listed in the general forums are mainly for the international versions if i'm not mistaken.
Also, check the forums for the S7 Flat version as they seem to be more active and most of the guides/roms apply to both variants, also confirm that in their respective guides.
I just checked for updates on my SMG930P today and it looks as if Sprint is now binary 6!? Hopefully this is a hint that the rest are moving to binary 5 for Oreo. I'm going to wait on this update just in case. G930PVPU6BRD2 is the latest update that just popped up for me.
I just wanted to verify if I flash G935UUEU4BRD1 Firmware I will still be on binary 4 which will allow me to switch carries and achieve root? Is sammobile the only reputable resource for these firmwares? Seems like they charge a bit much. Thanks guys

S7 Edge - SW Rev Check Fail (BootLoader) Phone:8 Binary:7

Hi All,
i have a UAE version S7 Edge Duos model, used in Australia.
VOLTE option doesnt work and 3G signal is set to be shutdown in a couple of years.
850Mhz 3G band is already decommissioned. Only 2100Mhz band is operating now.
Hence i badly need VOLTE to work on the phone.
Current UAE firmware version 8 and all of Australian stock ROM's version is in 7.
Hence it fails to load via ODIN, complaining SW Rev Check fail.
Wondering if there is any way of applying a lower version (7) stock ROM firmware onto a phone with version 8 level.
Else, if flashing the phone to something like Lineage OS or anyother ROM would help?
Or Stock Sam fw ver 8 --> Lineage OS or others --> Stock AU fw ver 7 work?
Thanks
Karthick

No method to flash a lower binary.
You need root and twrp. Flash latest alexndr's devbase in twrp.
Be sure to change csc to your operator whom you want to use volte with by reading instructions carefully in the thread.
Remember that it will trip knox. Good luck !

Lets Talk about Sprint!

Hya Everyone! I wanted to try and open up some life into those of us still using the Sprint Variant of the Note 4. It is so easy to get lost in the noise of the general forums and what works for the Korea variant may not work for our CDMA variant! So with that... let me hear what ROM you are using and how you like it! Also.. did you upgrade the Baseband past QI5? Any regrets??? Here are my burning topics.
1. SMS over LTE
2. What happens with T-Mobile? Should we load the T-Mobile basebands?
3. Absolute most stable ROM.
4. What version of TWRP are you using?
5. WiFi calling and/or HotSpot use.
Share your stories!!!
Lets also talk about how to switch our current phone to TMobile!
Uh, yeah. NOT much love for the CDMA variants of the Note 4 for newer OS's and the SMS over LTE AKA SMS over SGs issue. I'm currently running LOS 14.1.2 (Android 7.1.2) because anything much higher on QI5 wouldn't send texts. I found an older post where someone flashed an older previous baseband (Android 6?) using the newer OS's and that worked to fix the SMS issues, but I don't know how to make the "correct" needed files (which I have) into a TWRP flashable zip. After more digging, TWRP itself has the baseband files built into it, so flashing an older version might work, but I gave up after screwing around with it for 3 months.
"What happens with T-Mobile? Should we load the T-Mobile basebands?"
As long as your Note 4 is working on LTE fine there shouldn't be any difference Sprint vs T-mobile from what I've been told. 3G is going to be shut down in Jan 2022 though so...
I wouldn't upgrade the Baseband to QI5 because it seems that locks out older solutions for the SMS over LTE from working.
Absolute most stable ROM?
The only ones I've seen being regularly worked on still is the unofficial Lineage and Havoc OS's.
