There's no current root method available for security version you're on

I haven't tried, so I don't know. The update said something about not being able to downgrade, but I don't know if it actually locks it or not.

Try to flash it in odin, then as soon as your phone reboots hold vol +, home, and power. See if that will let you boot into TWRP
Already did that

Hey guys sorry if this has already been asked but. I just got a moto x 2015. I used the toolkit to unlock the bootloader and tried to flash twrp and root using the toolkit but it didn't work. I am wondering what I need to do to flash twrp and gain root. Thanks

You flash the SuperSU again? Preferably 2.79
Not sure how you are bricked, what exactly did you do?

I don't understand the issue. There is a very clear guide on how to root here https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guide-how-to-root-pure-style-t3503958. I was able to install TWRP and root with relative ease. The hardest part is just making sure you read for the details.
I successfully downgraded from marshmallow to lollipop and unlocked bootloader installed TWRP and rooted, then bypassed the factory reset protection so I could log in to Google on the set up screen.

It was easier for me to root by downgrading. If that makes any sense, which it probably doesn't lol. And thanks

Im glade I bought this phone. I was so aggravated the past few days because of the factory reset protection crap, but after I learned how to bypass it all is good now. Could anyone recommend a app or modual to use to change the navigation keys?

My understanding is that you'll have to downgrade to root, look for the dirty santa thread after you downgraded to root

I don't think the 995 has had arb incremented, you'll will have to downgrade to a version Dec 2016 security patch

As the title says, I was wondering if there's a way to update to Oreo on an unlocked phone. Or will I have to root it?
Currently using PagePlus as the carrier.
Thanks.

I tried this and it said no updates available.
The VZW Utility Application has a security update available (I'm currently on Dec 2016.) I'm assuming this has nothing to do with an OS update?

Probably not, but if you can take that update it would be a good idea. If you don't get the Oreo ota you'll have to wait for a kdz or a stock zip.

AFAIK, there's no roor exploit available for lg v20 oreo yet. You can try flashing alpha omega rom oreo. VS995 is one of their supported devices.

First you'll need to downgrade, root via dirty santa, then flash the patched oreo rom or alpha rom version
